Do-or-die weekend for Workington Comets

Workington Comets have just three matches left to save their play-off dream.

An impressive six-point haul last weekend has left Workington a wheel away from the play-off positions.

A visit to Berwick on Wednesday yielded no reward, with the home side taking maximum points in a comfortable 55-37 win.

Comets trail Newcastle, in the final play-off spot, by two points and face a daunting trip to league leaders Somerset tonight before the final crunch double-header at home to Sheffield tomorrow night.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have just one more meeting to race, away at high-flying Edinburgh tomorrow evening.

Maximum points would guarantee Workingtons place in the play-offs and complete their impressive comeback from the brink of disaster after numerous rain-offs and injuries put paid to their early season hopes.

While Ricky Wells and Joe Jacobs are hitting form at just the right time, leading light Josh Grajczonek is suffering after racing almost every night in the final stretch of the season.

Owner Laura Morgan said: You cant be consistently as good as Josh has been all season without having a dip somewhere.

But this is the Ricky Wells that we signed, and Joe Jacobs is really coming into his own. He is fearless.
