Comets Defeat the Chicago Mustangs and Move to 16-0

January 30, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Missouri Comets NDEPENDENCE, MO "" The Chicago Mustangs (9-6) held the Missouri Comets (16-0) scoreless in the first quarter but the Major Arena Soccer League Central Division Champions scored five straight goals in the second half to earn a 7-2 victory in front of 5,355 fans at the Independence Events Center.

Midfielder John Sosa was named Borden Man of the Match after his four-point performance where he tallied one goal and recorded three assists. In addition, league leader Leo Gibson scored one tally and had one assist.

Head coach Vlatko Andonovski's team was without four key players due to injury. Max Touloute (groin), Milan Ivanovic (AC strain), Stefan Stokic (abdominal strain) and Danny Waltman (ankle) did not suit up for the match.

Both the Mustangs and the Comets settled for a scoreless first quarter. However, the second quarter had Missouri score the first goal of the night when team captain Vahid Assadpour found the back of the net assisted by Sosa.

Moments later, Edgar Martini tied the match before Andre Braithwaite notched his first one of the night. Once again, the Mustangs tied the match when Hewerton Moreira beat Patterson to end the half 2-2.

The halftime break featured the annual mascot scrimmage game where Calvin The Canine accompanied by Blue from Sporting KC, KC Wolf from the Kansas City Chiefs, Kasey the Kangaroo from UMKC, Baby Jay from Kansas University among others entertained the fans for over ten minutes.

The reigning MISL Champions' defense made it impossible for the head coach Armando Gamboa's team to find the back of the net for the remainder of the match.

On the other hand, the Comets scored five consecutive goals throughout the second half. At the middle of the third stanza, Sosa beat goalkeeper Jesus Flores followed by Robert Palmer's eleventh tally of the season to end the quarter 4-2.

A couple of blue cards and a yellow card issued to the Mustangs in the fourth quarter, allowed the Comets to score three more goals courtesy of Gibson, Braithwaite and Josh Gardner ending the match with a final score of 7-2.

At the end of the match, Gamboa was issued a red card for abusive language.
