Cooper boys enter postseason on...

ABILENE, TX - After the 2014 season, Cooper boys soccer still hadn't won a district title.

Fast forward to 2017, and talk about a turnaround. This week, the Coogs enter the postseason as three-time district champs.

Cooper completed its district title last week with a 9-1 win over Lake View -- a total team effort as the Cougars not only won the 4-5A crown, but did so going a perfect 12-0.

Our communication and as well as how well we've gotten along with each other both on and off the field," said senior Pedro Lira about how this team is different than years past.

That included two shootout wins over favored Lubbock Monterey, and the team now is focused on eliminating the recent trend of early playoff losses.

Cooper kicks things off against Amarillo Palo Duro in Frenship on Friday, and with success being a norm now, the team finds advantages within this year.

"A lot of these guys experienced this the past two years, added head coach Lalo Munoz, who is in his 14th year of coaching.

They know what it takes to get there and know what it takes to win that first playoff game. The experience factor a long with the chemistry factor should allow us to have a better opportunity to win that first game," he said.
