Armin Van Buuren moved to tears at Untold festival | Trance Hub – Trance Hub (satire) (press release) (blog)

Armin Van Buuren is known well for his power packed performances. Versatile as he is, the trance king can appeal to a vast mainstage crowd which may not be all about trance, but he can also win the hearts of the trance family with his classic sets.

His set at the A State of Trance stage at Tomorrowland saw pure classics. And now again, at Untold Festival he had the opportunity to play a set with the sounds close to his heart. Just like his fans who were overwhelmed with emotions, he was moved to tears because of the music and the response of his fans. They say trance is all about emotions. We saw true emotion right here.

Infact, he even pulled off an all-nighter. Armin was supposed to play a three hour closing set at the festival. But three hours just werent adequate enough and he went ahead and extended it for two more hours!

The Farm, N-Trance, Clint Boon and Brother Beyond head to Oldham for new free music festival – Mancunian Matters

A brand-new, family-friendly music festival is coming to Oldham town centre and best of all, its free.

#OldhamLIVE will take place on Saturday, September 9, under the Parliament Square owls with a line-up that includes a headline set from The Farm, best known for their 1990s baggy anthem Altogether No.

The festival has been set up by Oldham Council and independent radio station Revolution 96.2, and promises to be a great day out for the whole family.

Gemma Hunt, popularly known as Gem from the CBeebies hit show Swashbuckle, will kick things off at noon, headlining a pirate-themed, daytime line-up full of magic shows, puppet performances and Prince and Princess singalongs.

Live music gets underway at 6pm with Stooshe, Kelly Lorenna from N-Trance, a Clint Boon DJ set and Nathan Moore from Brother Beyond also joining The Farm on the bill.

Oldham Council Leader, Jean Stretton, said she was very excited to begin counting down until the big day.

This festival will plug a gap in Oldhams entertainment offer and its great news for residents, families, music lovers, visitors and town centre traders," she said.

Weve got some brilliant local live music venues and events but the new Parliament Square gives us the chance to deliver something extra.

This is a festival with a line-up of established acts and entertainment where families can have fun and enjoy some of the best-selling artists of recent years and all for free.

Were working with Revolution 96.2 doing our bit to promote Oldham and to give families a top day out.

Your bit is to simply come along, enjoy yourselves, spread the word and help to give our local economy a real boost on the day.

Managing Director at Revolution 96.2 Matt Ramsbottom also had positive things to say about the upcoming event.

He said: This is brilliant news for Oldham a real first for the town centre and were excited to be making this happen.

Theres going to be something on offer for everyone at #OldhamLIVE.

The pirate-themed kids show is bound to be a real hit and great fun, and weve tried hard with the music line-up to suit all kinds of tastes.

There are acts on the bill for the nostalgic from the 80s, 90s, Noughties and now.

DJs Elliot Eastwick and Dave Sweetmore from the radio station will lead the Parliament Square crowds through the event.

Local businesses are encouraged to capitalise on the festival and promote special offers for the day using the #OldhamLIVE hashtag on social media.

#OldhamLIVE falls on the final day of the Your Oldham Festival which aims to celebrate the great co-operative activities happening across the borough.

From 10am to 2pm on the same day families can enjoy the Your Future event at Oldham Library.

From creating futuristic pieces of artwork at one of the craft sessions, to duelling with Darth Vader or dancing with royal guests, there should be something for everyone.

WATCH: Laidback Luke explains why DJ Mag has gotten this commercial – Trance Hub (satire) (press release) (blog)

The first thing that probably comes to your head when see Laidback Luke and DJ mag together on a Trancehub post, youll must be thinking that we too must have switched around. No, we will never leave trance no matter what happens. But this post is one that needed to be shared with the world. Though Laidback Luke says it, it is very relevant to the current scenario today and he gives us a few points that will actually leave us wondering if we vote right?

What he says is actually true. The poll is for the Top 100 DJs, not for the best producer or the most commercial or whatever it may be tagged as. Then why do we vote for people without considering these aspects? In the end, the ones who actually deserve to be there never make it on the list.

This is worth watching. Please do have a look and then vote!

Darker Wave duo bring house and trance names to Northampton club – Northamptonshire Telegraph

DJs from across the world will be playing at A Darker Waves inaugural event at Club 43 in Northampton this month.

For the last two and a half years, A Darker Wave has been broadcasting a radio show based out of Daventry and streaming on Radio Flintshire, a community radio station in North Wales.

Each week, it plays the best in underground techno, tech house and deep house as well as promoting up and coming DJs and producers.

Next Saturday, Thailands Redshifter will be headlining, playing a two hour live techno DJ set.

He will be joined by rising techno DJ MonoPhaze from Italy, Frederique Rijsdijk from Holland and Shaman and Mas from the UK.

A Darker Wave DJs jacki-e and p-mac will also be playing.

Speaking about the event, the pair said: Its a free party because we want as many people as possible to come and enjoy themselves with us.

It gives everyone a chance to come down to Club 43 to see what we are about.

The headliner Redshifter from Bangkok in Thailand, co-owner of the MCHNWRKS record label.

He'll be playing his live set and it's something that's really special.

He's in the UK for a short time so we are very fortunate to have been able to get him for our first party.

There is so much new, good music being made by this new wave of DJs and producers that it deserves an outlet.

It's for people who love music and who want to dance to music that is emotional, that makes you think, that engages your intellect as well as your feet. It is deep, dark, rhythmic and emotional.

As well as their regular radio show, The Darker Wave duo have played at clubs across the UK and Germany.

Speaking about the origins of their name, the do added: Dark Wave was first used in the 1980s to describe a dark and melancholy variant of new wave and post-punk music and was first applied to UK musicians such as Bauhaus, Joy Division and Sisters of Mercy.

It was also used to describe artists who combined music with performance art, such as Throbbing Gristle and Cabarert Voltaire, who challenged and explored the darker and obsessive sides of the human condition.

A lot of techno takes its spirit and ethos from this music, you can hear the industrial sounds which are a staple of techno music today.

Techno is the outsider of electronic dance music, the punk of today's modern music scene.

As Dave Clarke said in his recent interview with Mixmag, Techno is edgy. Techno will challenge you......it's the real dark art."

Following the event on August 12, they will return to the venue on September 16.

Doors open at 10pm, admission is free. Admission on September 16 and into events will be 3 in advance or 5 on the door.

In-Depth Interview With Ferry Corsten – EDM Identity

Ferry Corsten stops by to discuss his recent performances at Tomorrowland, his new album Blueprint, and loads more!

Ferry Corsten, a name that is synonymous with trance since its infancy. The man behind world renowned projects, such as Moonman, Gouryella and System F, is responsible for what many believe to be the rise in Dutch Trance. His impact has engulfed trance for more than 20 years. We had the great honour to speak with the man himself about his double performance at Tomorrowland on Weekend 1, his new Blueprint album, upcoming projects and a few other interesting topics!

Hi there! Im doing great thanks! Its been an exciting summer for me releasing my album Blueprint and doing all my summer shows!

It was fantastic. The Trance Energy stage really brought the magic to the audience regarding production, and its always great to play for the trance crowd. I always have fun when I get to play together with Fadi at the Future Sound of Egypt stage. Just a great crew and a very appreciative crowd.

Tomorrowland has grown into such a unique concept which allow dance fans for a whimsical dance experience with their favourite DJs. Their production is unmatched by any other festival.

I definitely think so, and the fact that there are trance events around the world on the rise aside from Trance energy proves that as well.

I agree. I wasnt thinking of bringing the alias back per se but noticed that I missed the emotion and melodies of trance. I wasnt really thinking of producing another Gouryella until I was working on a track in the studio one day when I realised that it had to be the next Gouryella. After that moment I havent looked back.

Back in the day, I had a lot of aliases, but that was purely because I was just producing too much music to be released by one label at that time. I feel that nowadays, people use aliases to be able to produce a specific type of sound that is meant purely for that brand. By doing this, you can disconnect yourself from the pigeon hole mentality that fans have nowadays and step out of your comfort zone without upsetting your fans who only want to hear one side of you.

Im currently working on the Gouryella 2.0 version, and its been a lot of fun. Youre absolutely right. The Gouryella show for me is all about a message that is learned and felt when watching the live experience. I hope 2.0 does that as well. Where the first live show had a few Hello World EP tracks, 2.0 will focus much more on some new stuff and elements from Blueprint.

Ive always been a huge sci-fi fan and wanted to find a way to marry my passion for this with my music. I sort of took the phrase telling a story with my album literally and decided to combine an audio book with a complimenting musical journey. The concept and the storyline were my great inspiration for making the music. Its like a sci-fi movie without the actual motion picture.

Thats a great question Ive always created music Ive liked and compiled into one body of work. Whereas with this album, I had a concept, a muse if you will that inspired me.

I think over the years as an artist Ive grown a lot on a producer level. You are right that this album has a lot of filmic influences compared to the past. And that was the whole point. Trance and film score go perfectly together and the sound scaping that film music requires, really enriches any trance production in my opinion. I do think though, that there are a number of tracks on the album that showcase my trance influences and me being a dance music producer.

Thanks. I love the track too. I think Drums a weapon plays a perfect part in the story. If you listen to the track and the emotions it conveys, you do feel the aggression and that sense of hopelessness that are playing in Lucass mind and in that part of the story.

Im all about melody. Ive always started with a melody as that is what always inspires me first when making a track. The melody is the face of a track.

Thanks. Its humbling to hear this comment. I dont know where I find the inspiration to be honest. It can be anything in daily life. But in the case of Out Of The Blue and the wave of tracks that came after, it was gear. New gear that not many people had yet. So I was lucky to come up with a unique sound, and I capitalised on that. I just know that I am very lucky to be able to have a job that I love and have people appreciate what I do. I guess its comments and questions like this that keep me working and keep doing what I do.

I guess it will always be the track System F Out of the Blue It was the first track that opened major doors for me. My proudest moment in the studio was probably when I finally signed off on Blueprint. That was a real product of passion.

Im working right now on the remixes for some of the Blueprint tracks, Gouryella 2.0 as well as a few projects which I will hopefully be able to share in a few months.

I will be doing quite a few festivals, Ibiza and lots more. Its best to check outferrycorsten.comfor tour dates. Ive been busy with Blueprint and have some great remixes and edits for the show.

Thanks for supporting and believing in me guys. Without you guys, I would not be able to do what I do.

Thanks so much.

In My Memory: Is Trance Tiesto Gone for Good? (Opinion) – Dance Music Northwest

Since last year, trance has seen a resurgence that has been years in the making. Sales and artist bookings are up, dedicated trance festivals are growing bigger, and new sub-genre sounds, like Psy Trance, are emerging. Helping lead the charge are trance legends who have returned to the genre after branching off to make more mainstream, progressive sounds- names like Sander van Doorn, W&W, Ferry Corstens Gouryella and Arty. Noticeably absent from this movement back to trance: probably one, if not, the best trance artists of all-time: Tiesto.

Before he became the house music playing, big room pumping, Grammy award-winning superstar he is today, Tijs Michiel Verwest, of the Netherlands, operated in the shadows as DJ Tiesto. Starting his career in the early 90s, Tiesto helped define the trance genre with his uplifting and progressive sounds, in addition to the creation of record labels like Black Hole Recordings and In Trance We Trust. Joining him in his early projects include fellow Dutchmen Ferry Corsten, who, along with Tiesto, created Gouryella, and Armin van Buuren, who Tiesto helped take Armins sound into the mainstream (look how well that has turned out!).

Tiestos debut solo studio album, In My Memory, released in 2001, saw this legend score some of his biggest career hits. Does Flight 643 and Lethal Industry ring a bell?

As trance in its entirety continued to grow, both of these tracks stood the test of time, having been remixed by plenty and featured in sets galore- even to this day. Who could forget when the legendary Markus Schulz dropped 643 at Bliss; Transcendence, here in Seattle, a few months ago?!

In My Memory took Tiestos career to new heights. He began to do global tours, including his USA debut in 2003, and lengthy solo sets- a concept that was new at the time. The idea of one DJ playing alone in front of a crowd of thousands? His groundbreaking Tiesto in Concert solo shows, in 2003, helped pave the way for DJs who aspire to do concerts in massive venues; He showed it could be done.

‘I was in a zombified trance’, alleged victim of Keighley church minister’s sexual assaults tells jury – Bradford Telegraph and Argus

A TEENAGER was in a "zombified" trance when a church minister sexually molested her to drive out demons and lustful spirits, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Now in her 40s, the witness told the jury that Pastor John Wilson abused her over a ten year period when he ran a Pentecostal group in Keighley and Shipley.

The woman said she was suicidal when she was a teenager and Wilson held all day private prayer sessions with her.

She looked on him as a father figure and someone to confide in within the church.

She alleged that Wilson, 70, of Shann Avenue, Keighley, put his hand up her skirt to indecently assault her, and touched her breasts, after putting her in a trance during the prayer sessions.

She told the jury on a video link that she was aged about 15 when the one-to-one prayer sessions with Wilson started.

The woman told the court: "He changed from being nice to being a nasty person; demons, demons, spirits, spirits, all the time, drilling it into you, making you believe he was the only one who could take the pain and suffering away from you."

Wilson denies sexually abusing seven women to rid them of evil spirits. He pleads not guilty to 31 allegations, including two of rape, 24 of indecent assault, four of conspiracy to commit indecent assault and one charge of sexual assault.

He denies 11 charges of indecent assault and one of conspiracy to commit indecent assault against the woman, who was giving evidence yesterday.

Wilson's wife, Mary Wilson, 79, of the same address, pleads not guilty to two charges of indecent assault and a single allegation of conspiracy to commit indecent assault.

Laurence Peterson, 59, of Eric Street, Keighley, denies three charges of indecent assault and four allegations of conspiracy to commit indecent assault.

The woman told the jury that Peterson was present during the prayer sessions but she did not recall him ever touching her.

She said she began attending the Pentecostal church as a young girl. She said she had been abused by a man at a fairground and Wilson offered spiritual comfort.

The woman said Peterson made tea before the prayer sessions and she became "zoned out". She was in a trance and "zombified" when Wilson was abusing her.

"It is so devastating that a person who was in a position of authority would do that," she said.

"He made me an emotional wreck."

She said the abuse continued after she married. She said she woke naked on one occasion with carpet burns on her back.

"It was like I was stuck to the floor in a trance, in a daze. I knew I was naked. I knew he had touched me," she told the jury.

"It just cuts me up inside how he could just do that and get away with it."

The trial continues.

A lifestyle change can really make a difference, as it did for me Robert Nickson – Trance Hub (satire) (press release) (blog)

Hi Robert! Hope you are doing great! How has the first half of the year treated you? Anything we should watch out for?

Hi! Im doing great thanks. The first half of this year has been truly amazing. My tracks are doing really well and getting a lot of support. For the first time it feels like I actually know what Im doing and that I have some kind of plan set for the future. So speaking of that and what you should watch out for, I have some new tracks coming up under my RNX guise on Silk Music, as well as a collab with my friend Factor B. There are a couple of other big projects coming up but Im not supposed to announce any of that just yet.

Thanks! I cannot stress enough how much Im looking forward to this. I was told a few months ago that it could be a possibility, but I try not to get excited about possible events until they are 100% confirmed and announced.

As for any special preparations, Im always working on new music and I will definitely keep a few I want to premiere at Dreamstate.

I think I made that track in early 2016 and it started with the main melody and the fast arpeggio you can hear during the build up to the break. Im sure I originally made it with a piano instead of the synth too. For the longest time it was a poorly produced demo I forgot about until I found it again probably around September or so. I wondered why I never finished but then often not hearing a track for a long time gives you fresh ideas to finish it. As for the title I think the original file name was something like Fast Arp, but when I had to give it a real title I thought it sounded very euphoric and I just added the extra a as it made it sound like an actual title instead of a description. Phonetically it sound better too in my mind.

Honestly Im not a huge fan of playing B2B sets. I can see how they could work on longer or open to close sets as theres more time to develop something, but most sets are 60 or maybe 90 minutes if youre lucky. Thats not to say I havent enjoyed the few B2B sets I have played. I played a set with Re:Locate in June which was nice as weve made so many tracks together. But if I had to choose, I honestly dont know. After the guitar stunt at Luminosity someone suggest Id try that with Pure Nrg, which would be interesting if not unlikely.

Luminosity this year was possibly the most amazing event Ive ever played. Theres something magical about it, anyone whos attended will likely agree whether its a artist, fan, crew member, etc. Its also a yearly opportunity to catch up with people, meet new artists and fans, discover new music and hang out. And as a bonus its only 10 minutes from where I live.

As for my set, this was the first solo LIVE show Ive done after the live show with Re:Locate last year. Its a lot of work preparing tracks and sorting out the gear, but its so rewarding. Once the nerves settle after the first few tracks its pure enjoyment. I took it a level further this year by bringing a guitar too.

In my mind pure trance focuses on the beauty of the sounds. Its usually the melodies in an uplifting track that define this, but it could easily work on a 124 BPM progressive track that has the right atmosphere.

I appreciate that, though Ive never thought of myself as a flag bearer of the pure sounds. But trance is always changing. This change appeals to some people and to some it does not. The more EDM styled trance was big a few years ago, psy and pure trance are popular now.

For the people who dont like the change, they will say its losing its essence. In the end you can always find the style of trance you like, even if there is less of it being produced. It can be frustrating when a style you dislike is the dominant style, but then theres always something to complain about. Just focus on what on what you love and and let the rest be.

Rich Solarstone asked me if I was interested in remix a track for Pure Trance and this one was one the tracks he sent. I liked it because the my remix was always going to be very different from the original. I dont like two nearly identical mixes of the same track, it seems pointless to me. Im quite happy with the result, it kept the essence from the original while being completely different.

I had my first round of success in the early to mid 2000s with tracks like Out There and Spiral, but by 2010 I was much less motivated. Other than a few tracks with Paul (Re:Locate) I hardly produced anything at all between about 2011 to 2014. Things changed after I left my job in 2014. Its funny how a change like that can motivate you again. Paul left his job not long after and we both started producing a lot of music together until we decided to make an album. Things have really picked up ever since to the point where I am now. Producing music is a creative process and and when other events in your life arent motivating, it has a negative effect. I realise its not possible for everyone, but a lifestyle change can really make a difference, as it did for me.

Short answer, yes. Long answer, I keep changing my mind about what I want to do. Ive made a lot of tracks with completely different styles over the last few years. I have quite a few RNX tracks sitting on my hard drive. I also have this other project called Astrosphere which I call my space music project. At the moment Im still making more new tracks, then later this year I want to see what I can combine to make some kind of sensible album.

Yes, a big big thanks to all of you. Some have supported me since the very start and know all the old tracks, others have only just recently discovered my music. In either case, the positivity is so rewarding, so thanks for that! And of course a big thanks to all that come to see my play.

Markus Schulz Drops Heavy Trance Remix of Linkin Park’s In The End [LISTEN] – Your EDM

The music world is still coping with the sudden, tragic death ofLinkin Parks frontman and fearless leader, Chester Bennington. For many electronic producers, the bands groundbreaking, genre-shattering music has served as direct inspiration over the years.

In a bittersweetremembrance of the late singer, Markus Schulzhas remixed In The End by Linkin Park into a hardcore trance track that pushes boundaries much like the original did for its time. The track opens strong, with a roar of synths that carry massive amounts of tension up until the haunting notes of In The End come into play. Ever so carefully, the melody is held and tuned to fit a trance anthem as the remix progresses into a heavy yet uplifting celebration of one of Linkin Parks greatest hits.

The In The End remix debuted on Global DJ Broadcast & Tomorrowland 2017 and were sure that wont be the last we hear of it Check it out right here!

Paul Thomas talks about his new label UV on FSOE Recordings – Trance Hub (satire) (press release) (blog)

Paul Thomas has been on fire this year some fantastic new singles, their label Ultraviolet has been belting some amazing tracks and now hes announced the launch of his new label FSOE UV with a new single UV. We had a chat with this humble yet very ambitious man about UV and what more can we expect in 2017.

I actually first discussed it with Fadi at the Supersonic show in Pune, India show we both played earlier in the year. He mentioned he really liked my music, said he wanted to launch a proper progressive label. I then went to meet him in Amsterdam ahead of his open to close show there to discuss and we were totally on the same page for everything so it was very easy to work out. As for the artists and music, its going to be just great underground works. Theres a lot of my own stuff on there, as well as some really cool acts that both myself and Aly & Fila already support.

Well with this one I am running it with Aly & Fila. I have great respect for their wide ranging of music tastes and also for their knowledge and input, so its going to be more of a bringing together of the minds of 2 artists. UltraViolet took a long time to build up to where it is now, but due to the nature of what weve already got in terms of backing at FSOE, we are able to make a massive splash straight away, as youll hear with the music in the coming months.

I think its a great basis to tell people what we are going to be about for sure. I dont think we have a very strict output on the style. Its not like I am expecting everyone to deliver me a rolling underground melodic prog track for the label. It will be varied, but it will stay very underground. As for another collab, I have no idea! Its not something we have discussed as we havent got this track out yet J The guys are working on a new artist album so I am sure they have a lot of commitments to stick to. But who knows in the future J

That doesnt surprise me. Theres a definite upward trend around the world with trance at the moment so I am pleased thats reflecting in sales as well. Top 3 would be a massive ask. I would say house, deep house, tech house and techno are way too far ahead in terms of sales and exposure but who knows. I think youll definitely see a big rise in progressive house sales though. That will be taking off massively for sure.

I am toying with the idea of an album, but after spending 18 months writing one and then scrapping it last year because of the change in my musical direction, I am a little more sceptical now. But I have some great singles lined up. After the UV track with Aly & Fila I have one called Goliath out on FSOE UV at the end of August, a track called Dark Heart on Armada in September, and my first solo single since switching to progressive in October also on FSOE UV. We also have the Diablo remixes coming on UltraViolet later in the year too.

I cant wait for this. Its probably my biggest show to date, and I have done a lot of big shows in my career. I have already started editing tracks, doing some reworks and organising music especially for this show. Itll be a one-off set I wont play anywhere else. I dont think there will be a B2B at the main show. Obviously its Aly & Filas home city so I think everyone will be so excited for their set on their own. But as for at an after party, who knows! J

James Dymond offers a few pearls of wisdom to producers – Trance Hub (satire) (press release) (blog)

James Dymond! One of the purest of the trance producing lot took out some time to type out this message to all the music producers out there. It surely is a very inspiring piece. Do give it a read! It surely will help you out if you are associated anywhere with the music industry!

***Attention all music producers****

I have written something very abstract but hopefully it will be either inspiring or motivating for you. If youre interested, please read

Also, dont take this too seriously or read between the lines too much, this is based on my own experience. I am hoping you can take some of this and apply it to yourself!

So.

I know this is going to sound super geeky and really quite obscure to some but

I honestly believe that when youre in the studio and learning to produce, you need to go Super Saiyan.

WTF is Super Saiyan you say?

If youve never watched the amazing Japanese Anime called Dragon Ball (also knwon as Dragon Ball Z & Dragon Ball Super), then maybe that term would go over your head a bit.

The series is about a group of martial artists, fighting to keep the Earth safe from evil doers and anyone else who threatens their existence.

The main character called Goku (who is an non-earth human race called Saiyan) is the main defender of Earth. He trains day & night in order to progress himself. Practicing and learning, honing his skills in order to surpass his current level. He is constantly looking towards improving himself, not only body but mind.

What does this have to do with me and music?

I would say A LOT!

In no sense am I a martial artist (definitely not, Im quite the lazy bastard), however the mentality I described above of pushing ones self to improve every day is certainly something I believe in. This mentality, can be incorporated into music production.

A few years ago, I had a realisation. That although I believed the music I was producing was good, I have come to realise (in my own opinion) it was in fact actually quite generic. Yes, OK, I most likely had my own style in terms of music production & quality. The sound of my kick, basslines, percussion and main leads. I was producing good tunes, but nothing that really defined me as a person and producer.

You could have the best production quality in the entire scene, but if your productions dont have that certain special characteristic/sound/creativity/ideas/understanding of the music then you wont be able to stand out from the crowd.

Over the last few years, Ive been pushing myself my mind & creativity to produce something better and better each time, something that is completely different and unique to the last track and to the rest of the scene. Producing something that doesnt sound like the industry norm. Something that stands out, that has the emotional melodies we all love in Trance, something that isnt just another generic Trance track.

Right now, I feel like Im at the top of my game in terms of music production, that surpasses all of my previous tracks from a few years ago.

In order to do this, I looked at what my inspirations were in music from my entire life and the current sound. I grew up on Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Trance, Disco/Funky House, House, Electro House, Hard House and Drum & Bass.

Clearly, House music made the biggest impact on me. Which is why in a lot of my recent productions Ive been incorporating old school 90s style House vocals. Mixing that with my other main love, Trance, as well as my more recent love Psy Trance.

Ive been producing for many many years. Technically speaking for the last 12 years since I was at school, messing around making Rock/Jazz versions of Classical and Pop music on the music notation software called Sibelius, as well as Cubase SX (who remembers that version?!).

But realistically, Ive had the serious mind set of producing Trance for 7 years now. Training my mind every day to understand how not only Trance should sound as a genre, but the technical aspect behind music production.

I spent months reading books on many different techniques For example, how a compressor works (including the actual mathematical science behind it), what a Gate plugin does, frequencies of certain acoustic instruments & their resonant values (guitar/vocals/saxophone etc) how to bus/group and process certain types of instruments, what reverb & delay ACTUALLY mean in a pyhsical form (not just some buttons & toggles on your DAW)

If youve read this far of this status/rant, then maybe youre beginning to understand my initial point. Music production isnt just simply learning how to produce and the different techniques. The same as with the right amount of training you could become good at martial arts. But its about learning all of the above and then continuing to surpass your current ability and becoming Super Saiyan.

Relating that to our mere mortal terms of music production It is the continuous quest to better ourselves and to overcome any sort of mental/physical barriers that stop us from achieving our potential goals as a producer/DJ. To get to the point you are happy with the sound of your productions, to be 100% confident with your ears and technical ability, to know that youre able to produce a track that is creative and different to your peers.

Does that actually make any sense, or am I really rambling on about some sort of unimaginable & mythical Super Saiyan that has no relevance to our lives

Maybe not

Im not the kind of person to take everything literally, so in your own experience take everything Ive said with a pinch of salt (thats an English saying, look it up if you dont undertand). But, I really do believe that in order to progress yourself as a music producer, you need to surpass your own mental & creative barriers, in order to work towards the next level.

If you are 100% truly and absolutely dedicated to music production, then I hope youll understand or at least feel what mean. As I mentioned above, in my own experience I needed the realisation that what I was doing was generic and something that wouldnt stand out from the crowd.

That is was inspired me to surpass my own production and creativity.

Of course, EVERYTHING Ive said is completely subjective. You may be reading this and thinking WTF is James Dymond on about, his tracks are no different to everyone else in the scene.

I completely understand that, everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course. But my point is towards the music producers, the guys who slave away for hours/weeks/months/years perfecting their style and techniques. To be able to have the sort of motivation and passion I had in order to get my first track signed, then my second, then my 3rd and 4th then my tracks signed to major Trance labels such as Armada, Black Hole and Future Sound Of Egypt.

Look up & forward, look to where you want to be and who you want to be. Stop thinking of the present and what you currently cant do, and think towards the future of what you will succeed and be able to do.

There was a point about 5 years ago, I was almost ready to give up. I couldnt produce the sound I wanted to in terms of technical ability. Looking back, I was naive to think that a couple years of music production would make me a master at the craft. And thinking about it now, I am still in no way a master of the craft. There are many more producers who are 10x better than I am right now.

But does that not inspire to you to surpass your current ability? For me, it definitely does.

Just like I was, you may have gotten to the point youve been doubting yourself, your abilities and you havent been able to surpass a certain aspect of music production.

Give up now and youll never get there. Look beyond your limitations and continue to work hard. Youll get there in the end.

Maybe I am lucky to have a musical background and musical life, but regardless of that I was 100% determined that music, music performance, music composition and music production was the life I chose.

Looking back, perhaps I subconsciously knew I wanted to surpass myself as time went on and to believe I could do what I wanted to do

OVER AND OUT!

I hope that helped. Remember my points Always believe you can surpass your current abilities and become Super Sayian, its simply a matter of time/belief/ and hard work.

If you have any comments or questions, please post them below. I will try my best to answer as many as possible

#TBT || Paul van Dyk – For An Angel – EDM Identity

For more than 20 years, Paul van Dyk has been stunning trance fans with incredible productions that have earned him a spot on the throne of the trance elite. This weeks #TBT takes us back to 1994 when his illustrious journey began, with one of the most influential trance tracks of all time, For An Angel!

Paul van Dyk certainly hit the nail on the head when in 1994 hetook to the studio and developed what wouldultimately becomeone of the most iconic trance tracks to everhit the airwaves. For An Angel was initially released in 1994 as a track on 45 RPMunder the MFS record label, which was Paulvan Dyks very first studio album. With such a massive response, For An Angel would emerge once again as a rework to be re-released in 1998 as Paul van Dyks E-Werk Remix on Deviant Records. This reworkwas his way to pay respects to E-Werk Nightclub where Paul would regularly take to the decks as their resident DJ.

Right out of the gate, For An Angel would become no stranger to garnering some major accolades as it would reach number-one on the UK Dance Chart, remaining there for several weeks. And since its release, the track has become one of the most influential and greatest trance tracks of all time. In fact, it was voted by Mixmag readers as the eighth greatest dance record of all time! Still, to this day, For An Angel continues to steal the hearts of trance fans all over the planet as it holds stead fast as a regular go-to track for many of the biggest and best DJs in the scene.

For An Angel not only offers up the most delectablesounds to ever hit your ear drums but also provides some serious eye candy as well, with three music videos existing for the track. The first brings us all the way back to 1994 when the track was released, filmed in the Riviera Maya in Mexico. With clips that include Paul van Dyk lounging among the tropical splendor of the Riviera Maya, complimenting the track with warm summer vibes and inspiring feelings of uplift and exploration.

The next would be filmed four years later in 1998 and features footage from the party-centric experience that is the Love Parade hosted in Berlin. Finally, the third would emergein 2009, and it includes footage from anexhibition located in both L.A. and Berlin. All of the videos, each unique in their own right, have helped to re-establish For An Angel as the years have come and gone, reminding us that this will always be a track that will stand the test of time.

You can catch him at his upcoming shows that include multiple stops at Cream, Ibiza at Amnesia on August 3, August 17, and September 7, as well as Dreamstate Mexico on August 19, and Creamfields on August 24. Over here in the States, you can catch Paul work his magic in New York City as he takes to the decks to present AEON by Paul van Dyk at the PlayStation Theater on September 23 and then at Dreamstate SoCal on November 24/25.

Profetik Strikes Again With Masterful 2 Track Progressive Trance EP – EDM Sauce

After hitting #8 in the Beatport trance release charts on his last EP, Profetik is back with an epic two track Freegrant Music release. Staying true to their roots, Profetik and Jackson Snapp combine emotional chords and massive basslines. The tracks have already been supported by big names in trance like: Cosmic Gate, Myon and JES. Watch out for these guys in the future if you are a fan of progressive music.

Jackson Snapp came up with this beautiful piano piece and that formed the basis for the entire song. We went through a number of different basslines and chord progressions Overall it took a lot of hard work to properly present the emotions we wanted to depict.

I was really going for a big festival feel in this bassline. I love trance because it can tie together gentle elements, like the nylon guitars in The Decree, with heavy hitting basses to take the listener on a journey.

[Rave Jungle Interview] Ferry Corsten talks about Tomorrowland and his new album Blueprint ! – Rave Jungle (press release) (subscription) (blog)

Rave Jungle had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with the Trance music legend, Ferry Corsten, shortly after his performance at this years Tomorrowland festival.

The Dutch legend known under his numerous aliases, including System F, Moonman, Pulp Victim and Gouryella gave an exclusive interview regarding his performance at the first weekend of the festival. We have also discussed about his new album called Blueprint.

Check out the interview below !

Tomorrowland was great! They had a stunning production that really complemented the music. First, the trance energy stage where I performed as Ferry Corsten was probably one of the most amazing productions ever. You could really see that the crowd was eager to have trance back at the festival. My set as Ferry Corsten was great. I was able to play a lot of the tracks from my album Blueprint. The response was phenomenal, both at the festival and online. My second set as Gouryella brought out every die-hard trance fan over there. Since the documentary has been released, people felt more in tune with the concept when I played.

The festival was great. Unfortunately, I didnt get to stay as long as I wanted as I had some promotional things to do around my album outside of the festival but from what I saw it was fantastic. It was great to see some old friends and fans again!

I guess the concept makes it stand out. Its a whimsical European take on day festivals!

Blueprint is a hybrid between a music album and an audio book. In other words, a fully narrative story that carries the listener throughout the entire album creating a full listening experience. The difference between this album and my previous workMy previous work was just music albums where there was no central theme. The music in my previous albums were made to flow together but not as cohesive as blueprint due to the story.

Its really hard to pick one from all your favourite darlings. But if I had to pick one, it would be Venera. It ties Blueprint and Gouryella together.

I think its great. Ultimately, techno is where trance came from so uniting the 2 makes sense.

Weve got a few Ibiza shows, a couple more festivals in Europe and Asia and then Its back to the U.S and the rest of the world for the last quarter of the year.

Thank you so much as well !

Check out Ferrys performance at this years Tomorrowland below !
