Schools preparing for opening day – The Daily Planet

As the lazy days of summer draw to a close, teachers and administrators at Tellurides public schools and the private Telluride Mountain School are getting ready for the 2017-18 year.

Telluride Elementary School (TES), Telluride Intermediate School (TIS) and Telluride Middle/High Schools (TMHS) which operate under the Telluride R-1 School District will kick off on Monday, Aug. 28. The first day of classes at Telluride Mountain School is set for Tuesday, Sept. 5.

While most Denver public schools are already underway, Telluride Superintendent Mike Gass said that Telluride doesnt begin school until late August due to the various school spaces that are leased for the summer by organizations such as Telluride Science Research Center, Telluride Academy and Telluride Film Festival.

Gass said he intends to adjust the 2018-19 school calendar so that the first semester ends before winter break, which means classes will begin earlier in August next year.

Teacher training, however, kicks off this week: on Wednesday, for the new math curriculum at TMHS, and on Thursday, for a teacher leadership training. All district teachers officially return to their classrooms on Aug. 21.

High school athletic teams volleyball, golf, cross-country and soccer officially begin practice tomorrow.

Registration for new students opened this past Wednesday.

According to TMHS Principal Sara Kimball, there are already 33 new students registered for the middle/high school.

We graduated a big senior class last year and we have a smaller freshman class coming in. So we thought we might be down in enrollment, Kimball said. But weve got a lot of new kids coming in.

Kimball urges parents to submit their registration materials soon; they are due Aug. 25.

Two new teachers will join TMHS: a new middle school counselor and a new high school special education teacher.

New to the public school district this year: The Pinhead Institute will be teaching middle school technology classes. The high school also added a new anatomy and physiology class and a broadcast journalism class to its schedule.

According to TIS Principal Chad Terry, enrollment at the intermediate school also is rising significantly.

So far we have over 30 brand new students to the Telluride Intermediate School, said Terry. Because of all of these new families, we are sitting around 340 students in these four grades. All of the grade levels have four homeroom sections. Fifth grade in particular issitting around 90 students, which is historically one of the largest classes that Telluride has ever seen.

Notably, the dual immersion program will grow into third grade this year.

We have a great third-grade team of teachers, Terry said. (They) have invested a ton of time and energy into helping the dual immersion program grow into (the intermediate) school and continue to offer a great education in bothEnglish and Spanish.

TIS welcomes new teacher Cela White to its fourth-grade classroom.

Terry added that there will be an opportunity for parents and students to drop off supplies and set up lockers/cubbies on Friday, Aug. 25, from 2-3 p.m.

TES will kick its first day of school off with a longstanding tradition in which teachers, parents and students gather on the front steps of the elementary school at 8:05 a.m. to share opening day comments and introductions and to sing the school song.

According to TES Principal Susan Altman, so far there are 10 new students entering the elementary school. She said there are four new TES teachers this year: two from Spain, one from Mexico and one Telluride local.

We also have increased our classes to four sections in both kindergarten and first grades, opening up a third dual immersion classroom at each grade level, Altman said. This will honor our continued efforts to keep classroom sizes down.

Other than routine deep cleaning of all floors, and painting and prepping classroom spaces, there have been no major renovations to any of the public schools.

Gass encourages people interested in running for one of three available School Board seats this fall to submit their petitions, which are now available at the district office and are due to the San Miguel County Clerks Office on or before Sept. 1.

TELLURIDEMOUNTAIN SCHOOL

Meanwhile, the Head of School Search Committee at Telluride Mountain School is in the final process of determining a replacement for Karen Walker, who is entering her last year at the helm.

According to Associate Head of School Andy Shoff, the committee hopes to announce that decision before Sept. 1.

Students return to classes at TMS on Sept. 5 with the exception of new, incoming Montessori students, who will begin the following day, Sept. 6.

TMS teachers return to their classrooms on Aug. 21, two weeks before TMS students arrive, for preparation, collaboration and professional development.

While there were no major changes to the TMS campus, a small bouldering wall was installed onto the building over the summer for outside play.

According to Shoff, the school is enjoying its largest enrollment ever, particularly in the high school, though there are new students entering just about every grade this year. There also has been a strong uptake in inquiries from international families, given the imminent launch of the International Baccalaureate program at TMS in grades 11 and 12.

Though most classes are now full, some seats are still available. For more information about admissions at TMS, contact ashoff@telluridemtnschool.org.

Can This Stock Price Climb The Ladder: EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ … – FLBC News

Moving 0.37% from the most recent open, shares ofEDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) have landed on investor watchlists as the latest bid puts the equity at$2.70. Investors interested in stocks under $5 have given this stock a second look over the past few weeks.

Most investors are likely looking for that next stock that is ready to take off running. Maybe the focus is on finding a stock that has recently taken a turn for the worse for no real apparent reason. As we all know, as quickly as a stock can drop in price, it can bounce back just as fast.

Although the popular stocks that receive a high level of media coverage tend to recover quicker after a sell-off, there may be plenty of under the radar stocks that are ripe for buying. Scoping out these potential market gems may help repair a portfolio that has taken a hit for any number of reasons.

The average investor might not have the time to monitor every single tick of a given stock, but taking a look at historical performance may help provide some valuable insight on where the stock may be trending in the future. Over the past week, EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) has performed -8.47%. For the past month, shares are -15.63%. Over the last quarter, shares have performed 6.73%. Looking back further, EDAP TMS S.A. stock has been -14.42% over the last six months, and -17.68% since the start of the calendar year. For the past full year, shares are -11.18%.

There is rarely any substitute for diligent research, especially when it pertains to the equity markets. No matter what strategy an investor employs, keeping abreast of current market happenings is of the utmost importance. Everyone wants to see their stock picks soar, but the stark reality is that during a market wide sell-off, this may not be the case. Recently, shares of EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP)have been seen trading -9.46% away from the 200-day moving average and -15.55% off the 50-day moving average. The stock is currently trading -29.87% away from the 52-week high and separated 20.00% from the 52-week low. EDAP TMS S.A.s RSI is presently sitting at 27.14.

New investors may sometimes be working with limited capital. Choosing which stocks to own can be a tough decision. Individuals may be deciding on whether to buy 10 shares of a stock trading at $100 as opposed to purchasing 100 shares of a stock trading at $10. We have recently been focusing on stocks that are trading under the $10 price level. We are constantly monitoring technical and fundamental factors that may lead to breakouts for these relatively cheap (in terms of price) stocks.

TULLAHOMA NEWS

Staff Report

The Tullahoma Middle School football team quickly grabbed the lead and never looked back on Thursday night, soundly defeating Coffee County at home, shutting out the Red Raiders 38-0.

After dominating Coffee County on Thursday night, the Wildcats (1-0) will have a quick turnaround when they host Bridgeforth on Tuesday. Kickoff of that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Stopping the Red Raiders on their first possession, Tullahoma took over at Coffee Countys 43-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Zach Suggs broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown run with 5:13 left in the opening quarter. DJ Dillehay added a short 3-yard scamper to punch in the 2-point conversion, making it an 8-0 ballgame.

Tullahoma padded its lead by adding another touchdown on its second possession. This time it was a 9-yard rushing score from Jacob Dixon that increased the Wildcats lead with 58 seconds left in the first quarter. Quarterback Ryan Scott hit Brody Melton on a pass to compete the 2-point conversion as TMS led 16-0.

Coffee County looked poised to cut into its deficit on its next possession. However, a crucial penalty stalled that drive. On fourth-and-goal from the 24-yard line, the Raiders elected to go for it, but stalled and Tullahoma took over possession.

Neither team was able to score again, until Tullahoma opened the second half with a touchdown just 43 seconds into the third quarter. Jaxon Sheffield broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown run and Cayden Tucker ran for the 2-point conversion, putting the Wildcats up 24-0 with 7:17 remaining in the third quarter.

Suggs added his second score of the evening with another long touchdown run. After the Wildcats took over at their 49-yard line, Suggs broke loose for a 51-yard score with 5:29 left in the third quarter. The 2-point conversion was unsuccessful as Tullahoma led 30-0.

Tullahoma added one final third-quarter touchdown with 24 seconds left in the period. Sheffield capped off a six-play drive, punching the ball into the end zone from 2 yards out and Dixon added the 2-point conversion, putting the Wildcats up 38-0.

When medication fails, this helmet can treat depression – Metro US

Julie Travis is one of the more than 15 million Americans who struggle with clinical depression. For years, she was able to manage it with medication, but recently that wasnt enough.

Unfortunately, this isnt uncommon, said Dr. Amita Talati, a psychiatrist in Voorhees, New Jersey who has been treating patients with depression for more than 20 years, including Travis.

At some point, medications may not work for a lot of patients, she said. She sees more and more patients becoming resistant.

But there is another option when all else fails: deep transcranial magnetic stimulation, or Deep TMS.

Talati recently got a Brainsway Deep TMS system, which uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the areas of the brain responsible for depression. Her clinic is the first in South Jersey to offer it and its also used at Harvard, Mount Sinai and by the U.S. Navy.

Essentially, its a helmet to treat depression. Travis visited Talatis clinic five days a week to receive the 20 minute treatments, during which she wore a helmet attached to the machine that stimulated her brain for about 3 seconds at a time, pausing for about 15 seconds in between.

Travis felt a slight tapping on her head, she said, but it wasnt painful. The system is noninvasive and requires no sedation.

Though Travis said she was a bit skeptical at first that it would work, she was desperate to try anything that could help her.

From September on, I was pretty much not functioning, she said of how her depression had worsened. It was just this overwhelming fear of being awake. Life was so overwhelming to me.

Three weeks into her Deep TMS treatment, Travis noticed slightbut still monumentalchanges.

I can very distinctly remember when I started singing to the radio, and it really hit me that day, like, Wow, this is good, she said.

Travis reported no side effects, and Talati said the most common is a slight headache. In total, Travis received 36 sessions and said she hasnt felt that intense depression again since.

Its incredible, she said. Im out socializing again, meeting up with people, doing things I used to enjoy. My friends are like, Oh my god, shes back.

Deep TMS is FDA cleared for patients with major depressive disorder and studies are currently evaluating its further uses, such as treating OCD. The Brainsway company holds an exclusive license from the National Institutes of Health for the technology.

To Talati, who has seen many patients try many different types of medicine some with serious side effects the treatment option is revolutionary.

One of my other patients said, I don't know why everyone who has depression doesnt get this treatment, she said. Its going to take off. Its remarkable.

The closing prices are compared day-by-day to look for trends and can measure market sentiment for any security over the course of a trading day.

Targeted Microwave Solutions Inc. (TMS.V) shares are moving today onvolatility-11.11% or $-0.005 from the open.TheTSXV listed companysaw a recent bid of0.04 and100000shares have traded hands in the session.

Investors often have to make the decision of how aggressive they are going to invest. Some investors looking to make a quick dollar may jump in head first without a plan. This can be dangerous for the health of the portfolio in the long-term. Taking a chance on a risky stock may provide high returns, but investors often need to calculate whether the risk is worth the reward. Managing that risk in turbulent markets may help keep the average investor afloat when the markets inevitably turn sour for an extended period. Doing all the necessary stock research may include keeping a close tab on technicals, fundamentals, relevant economic data, and earnings reports. Investors may have to find a way to keep the rational side from being consumed by irrational behavior when studying the markets.

Now letstake a look at how the fundamentals are stacking up for Targeted Microwave Solutions Inc. (TMS.V). Fundamental analysis takes into consideration market, industry and stock conditions to help determine if the shares are correctly valued. Targeted Microwave Solutions Inc. currently has a yearly EPS of -0.11. This number is derived from the total net income divided by shares outstanding. In other words, EPS reveals how profitable a company is on a share owner basis.

Another key indicator that can help investors determine if a stock might be a quality investment is the Return on Equity or ROE. Targeted Microwave Solutions Inc. (TMS.V) currently has Return on Equity of -124.73. ROE is a ratio that measures profits generated from the investments received from shareholders. In other words, the ratio reveals how effective the firm is at turning shareholder investment into company profits. A company with high ROE typically reflects well on management and how well a company is run at a high level. A firm with a lower ROE might encourage potential investors to dig further to see why profits arent being generated from shareholder money.

Another ratio we can look at is the Return on Invested Capital or more commonly referred to as ROIC. Targeted Microwave Solutions Inc. (TMS.V) has a current ROIC of -108.54. ROIC is calculated by dividing Net Income Dividends by Total Capital Invested.

Similar to ROE, ROIC measures how effectively company management is using invested capital to generate company income. A high ROIC number typically reflects positively on company management while a low number typically reflects the opposite.

Turning to Return on Assets or ROA, Targeted Microwave Solutions Inc. (TMS.V) has a current ROA of -95.05. This is a profitability ratio that measures net income generated from total company assets during a given period. This ratio reveals how quick a company can turn its assets into profits. In other words, the ratio provides insight into the profitability of a firms assets. The ratio is calculated by dividing total net income by the average total assets. A higher ROA compared to peers in the same industry, would suggest that company management is able to effectively generate profits from their assets. Similar to the other ratios, a lower number might raise red flags about managements ability when compared to other companies in a similar sector.

Changes for TMS with new school year – Tallmadge Express

Manion to serve as principal By APRIL HELMS Reporter Published: August 6, 2017 12:00 AM

When students at Tallmadge Middle School begin their new school year Aug. 16, they will have a new principal as well as new bell and bus schedules -- although the new school leader is someone they probably already know.

On July 19, the Tallmadge School Board approved a two-year contract with former assistant principal Jeff Manion, who became principal effective Aug. 1. His salary is $93,326 per year.

Board President Rick Kellar said that the board "unanimously supported" hiring Manion as the new middle school principal.

"We have great confidence he will do a great job as the new leader at the middle school," Kellar said.

The former principal, Rob Kearns, left to take a position with the Youngstown schools, Manion said.

Superintendent Jeff Ferguson said he was happy that Kearns was about to take advantage of an opportunity "closer to home."

"We would like to thank Rob for his service," Ferguson said.

Manion said that he and his wife, who teaches at North Canton schools, moved to Brimfield two years ago from Uniontown and have three school-aged children, two sons and a daughter. They attend the Tallmadge schools, he said.

All of his 15-year teaching career has been with Tallmadge Schools, Manion said, starting out as a substitute teacher. The door opened up for him when he was called to teach French and Spanish for two weeks after the regular teacher contracted mononucleosis.

"By the way, I have no idea how to teach either one," Manion said, and he laughed. "But someone must have been impressed because when a position became available, they asked me."

Manion said that he taught at all of the buildings at one point or another as a physical education teacher. Five years ago, he was moved to the middle school, 4 1/2 of those years as the assistant principal. Previously, he spent 10 years at Munroe Elementary, "teaching a variety of grades."

Manion said he looked forward to working with the staff and students in his new position in the upcoming year.

"I think my staff would tell you that here at the middle school, you have to be flexible," Manion said. "You are dealing with middle school students and you have to be flexible with this age group."

However, Manion said the school has "a fantastic staff," which takes a student-centered approach.

"They make my job a lot easier," Manion said.

Ferguson said he was pleased to see Manion take the principal's seat.

"He started as a teacher and has worked in many positions," Ferguson said. "I think it will be a smooth transition."

New schedules for buses and bells

The daily bell and bus schedule for Tallmadge Middle School has changed with the 2017-18 school year. The schedule will begin 10 minutes earlier than last year's schedule. Additionally, the high school and middle school bus routes will be separated so that each building will have its own route.

With the new schedule, buses will drop off middle school students starting at 7:05 a.m. All students must be on campus by 7:25 a.m. to avoid being tardy. At the end of the school day, buses will leave by 2:30 p.m. and all students must be off campus by 2:35 p.m., unless they are involved in an after-school activity.

"The decision to adjust the schedule and separate the bus routes was made to alleviate traffic, increase student safety and save time across the district," Ferguson said. "We are happy to report that the new schedule does not require any additional buses and will even save time on some bus routes."

Historically, the district ran high school and middle school bus routes together. In the morning, buses would drop students off at the high school, then drop the remaining students off at the middle school. After school, buses would pick up high school students first, then travel to the middle school. Some high school students would then transfer to a different bus to get home. The middle school also experienced increased congestion due to buses, parents picking up students and high school athletes gathering for practices during the after-school timeframe.

"We are confident that separating the bus routes will help reduce congestion before and after school, as well as improve safety for our students, their families and our staff members," Ferguson said. "Additionally, we will be breaking ground for new building construction this fall, reducing the amount of space at the middle school. This new schedule will be beneficial during this process as well."

The middle school bell schedule will coincide with the high school schedule. To view the full middle school bell schedule, visit: http://www.tallmadgeschools.org/TMSBellSchedule.aspx.

Aug. 10, there will be an ice cream social for sixth-graders from 6-7:30 p.m. Open House for seventh and eighth grades will be Aug. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Edap Tms SA (EDAP) Moves Below Ichimoku Cloud – Evergreen Caller

Shares ofEdap Tms SA (EDAP) recently touched 3.03, which places the stock belowthe Ichimoku cloud, indicating bearishmomentum and a potential sellsignal for the equity. Shares of Edap Tms SA opened the last session at 2.91, touching a high of 3.03 and a low of 2.90 , yielding a change of0.01.

Ichimoku Kinko Hyo is a technical trend trading charting system that has been used by Japanese commodity and stock market traders for decades and is gaining increasing popularity amongst western stock market traders, being commonly referred to as Ichimoku Cloud charts. Ichimoku Kinko Hyo, which translates to equilibrium at a glance chart, was developed to allow a trader to quickly and easily appraise the trend, momentum, and support and resistance levels of an asset, from a single chart.

The system does include signals but these should never be considered in isolation. It is a visual technical analysis system and the charts are designed to be considered in their entirety to gain a perspective on the overall direction of the share or index and distinguish higher probability opportunities from lower probability ones. The Ichimoku components are introduced in a specific order because that is how you should analyze or trade the market. Once youve confirmed the trend by recognizing price as being below or above the cloud, you can move to the moving averages. The most basic theory of this indicator is that if the price is above the cloud, the overall trend is bullish while below the cloud is bearish, and in the cloud is non-biased or unclear. Lastly, when the price is above the cloud, then the top of the cloud will act as a general support level, and when price is below, the cloud base will act as resistance. But remember the cloud has thickness, and thus resistance does as well, which by making these thicker reduces the risk of a false breakout.

Anotherpopular indicator among technical analysts that can help to measure the strength of market momentum is the Average Directional Index or ADX. The ADX was created by J. Welles Wilder to help determine how strong a trend is. In general, a rising ADX line means that an existing trend is gaining strength. The opposite would be the case for a falling ADX line. At the time of writing, the 14-day ADX for Edap Tms SA (EDAP) is standing at 18.94. Many chart analysts believe that an ADX reading over 25 would suggest a strong trend. A reading under 20 would suggest no trend, and a reading from 20-25 would suggest that there is no clear trend signal.

Edap Tms SA (EDAP)s Williams Percent Range or 14 day Williams %R is sitting at -83.33. Typically, if the value heads above -20, the stock may be considered to be overbought. On the flip side, if the indicator goes under -80, this may signal that the stock is oversold. The RSI, or Relative Strength Index, is a commonly used technical momentum indicator that compares price movement over time. The RSI was created by J. Welles Wilder who was striving to measure whether or not a stock was overbought or oversold. The RSI may be useful for spotting abnormal price activity and volatility. The RSI oscillates on a scale from 0 to 100. The normal reading of a stock will fall in the range of 30 to 70. A reading over 70 would indicate that the stock is overbought, and possibly overvalued. A reading under 30 may indicate that the stock is oversold, and possibly undervalued. After a recent check, the 14-day RSI is currently at 39.66, the 7-day stands at 31.67, and the 3-day is sitting at 21.85.

Investors looking to chalk up healthy returns in the stock market may need to pay attention to avoid common pitfalls. When the good times are rolling, investors may be highly tempted to move a lot of money into certain stocks that have been churning out returns. One problem with this approach is that a stock that has been hot for a few months might not be hot over the next three months. It is always important to remember that past performance does not guarantee future results. Getting into a stock too late may leave the average investor pounding the table as a former winner turns into a current loser.

Taking a look at another technical level, Edap Tms SA (EDAP) presently has a 14-day Commodity Channel Index (CCI) of -134.89. Typically, the CCI oscillates above and below a zero line. Normal oscillations tend to stay in the range of -100 to +100. A CCI reading of +100 may represent overbought conditions, while readings near -100 may indicate oversold territory. Although the CCI indicator was developed for commodities, it has become a popular tool for equity evaluation as well. Moving average indicators are used widely for stock analysis. Many traders will use a combination of moving averages with different time frames to help review stock trend direction. One of the more popular combinations is to use the 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Investors may use the 200-day MA to help smooth out the data a get a clearer long-term picture. They may look to the 50-day or 20-day to get a better grasp of what is going on with the stock in the near-term. Presently, the 200-day moving average is at 2.98 and the 50-day is 3.19.

TMS Global leader’s move adds to ranks of African Americans serving in international cross-cultural missions – The South Florida Times

Rev. Richard Coleman, his wife Amanda and their four children will move to Ethiopia later this year to do missions work.

Christian Newswire

A forthcoming leadership transition at missions agency TMS Global comes at a time when it is pursuing a heightened commitment to seeing more non-whites serving in world evangelization.

After more than a decade recruiting others for service with the group, the Rev. Richard Coleman is stepping down as senior director of mobilization and candidacy to prepare for a first-hand role overseas himself.

Together with his wife, Amanda, and their four children, he plans to move later this year to Ethiopia, where he will support national and regional church leaders.

During his time with TMS Global, Rev. Coleman has been influential in the organizations growing commitment to seeing more African Americans like him, and other minorities, broadening the scope of the missions workforce.

Believing such an emphasis is crucial in fulfilling the Great Commission, the organization last year announced a new commitment to diversity, better reflecting the rich breadth of Gods church and kingdom.

It makes our message more authentic, said Coleman, who leaves his position at TMS Globals Norcross, Ga., headquarters in July to join the organizations almost 200-strong team of workers serving in a wide range of ministries. There are certain parts of the world where people have said, We will not believe this message until we hear it from the mouths of other people of color,' he said. Having that same message of hope and truth coming from another person of color can be reassuring and even add credibility to our witness.

Coleman has been committed to missions since 1998, when he went on his first short-term trip to Uganda while a student at Oral Roberts University. Upon graduation he served as the director of missions at an Atlanta megachurch before joining TMS Global in 2006, initially as manager of recruitment.

In addition to helping scores of people find their place in Gods global mission, both with TMS Global and other organizations, Coleman has taught the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement course and led shortterm missions teams to various places around the globe, including Africa and Central America.

Additionally, he has also been involved in global leadership in the missions community, serving on the planning team as the global selection chair for the 2016 Lausanne Younger Leaders Gathering.

Colemans commitment to seeing more believers of color serving in missions was significant in TMS Globals own diversity push. That initiative has included the 2016 appointment of the Rev. Romal Tune as full-time senior adviser to TMS Global president and CEO the Rev. Max Wilkins, and the founding earlier this year of an African American Mobilization Advisory Board comprising influential leaders representing a broad range of African American churches.

Ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance International in 2014,Coleman has been encouraged to see others embrace the work of diversifying the North American sending force.

Knowing that others are stepping up helped him to step out into his own desire to serve abroad.

Knowing that African Americans made up less than 0.6 percent of the full-time sending force from America, I felt like maybe my calling was to stay behind and help change that reality, he said. But over the years I began to feel I was fulfilling a role that others could now fulfill.

Wilkins paid tribute to Colemans contributions to TMS Global and the wider missions community:

Were grateful for the way Richard has championed the need for greater diversity in missions, and having pointed the way for others, is now showing the way personally, he said. We hope we can help many others follow his example, so that as a global church we more fully embody and reflect the truth of the message we proclaim that the good news of Jesus is for everyone, everywhere.

Lee County, Tupelo students return for new school year – Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal

TUPELO Avari Vance, 5, arrived Thursday morning at Saltillo Primary School, tie-dye lunch box in hand, ready to learn.

Vance, a kindergartner, is one of thousands of students who returned to classes Thursday in the Lee County and Tupelo school districts.

Im excited because its my first day of school, Vance said.

Parents populated carpool lines and school parking lots for the first time since May, students entered classrooms carrying backpacks full of school supplies and teachers, who returned to work earlier this week, were ready to greet them.

Julie Sterling, first-grade teacher at Saltillo Primary, said the first day of school is not only exciting for students, but for teachers too.

Im excited and a little bit nervous, Sterling said. I cant wait to meet all my new first-graders.

At Lawhon Elementary School, Mark Enis started his first school year as principal of the school Thursday morning.

After spending time at the empty school, which underwent major renovations this summer, Enis said he was glad to see the building completed and full of students again.

Its a good feeling, Enis said of the first day of school. You always get butterflies, though, because you just want to make sure all of your Is are dotted and your Ts are crossed.

Most teachers spent the first day going over classroom rules and procedures, laying the foundation for learning to take place as the year goes on.

Lawhon third-grader Morgan Mathis said she was excited to be back at school to see her friends and learn about science. Although Mathis admits she had some jitters about the new school year, she said Thursday morning that the first day was going well.

Im feeling nervous because I havent been in Tupelo for very long, Mathis said.

Paisley Williams, 11, started seventh grade at Tupelo Middle School on Thursday.

Williams said the transition to TMS from Milam Elementary was a little overwhelming, but she was ready to make the move to a new school.

Im excited because its really different for me because I get a little more freedom than I did before, Williams said.

Besides a change of scenery, Williams said she was looking forward to meeting new people, using her new school supplies and being back in science class her favorite subject.

I love the first day of school, Williams said. Its great.

TMS teacher Amy Johnson said seeing new students, like Williams, at TMS on the first day is the best part of the school year.

Its something new with the kids coming over for Milam, its like theyre growing up, Johnson said. I like to see the new faces thats whats exciting for me.

Johnson teaches publications and productions at TMS. TMS was also renovated this summer and some teachers, including Johnson, returned from their break to a freshly painted classroom.

Students across Northeast Mississippi will return to school over the next week.
