Tencent Withdraws Lawsuit Against Lao Gan Ma, Plans to Partner ‘For Real’ In the Future – TEO – The Esports Observer

After a series of dramatic twists related to a $2.3M USD esports advertising dispute case between Chinese conglomerate Tencent Holdings and Chinas biggest chili sauce brand Lao Gan Ma (LGM), it would appear that the story is coming to an amicable end.

Tencent Holdings and LGM released a joint statement Friday announcing that the two companies have made a compromise.

According to the statement, Tencent has withdrawn the lawsuit from the Shenzhen Nanshan Court and will cooperate with LGM to aid the Guiyang Police Office in prosecuting three suspects who were arrested for faking LGMs company seal and pretending to be marketing representatives with the goal of signing a contract with Tencent to obtain CD-keys for games.

Tencent and LGM have had a deep conversation on this incident and LGM was offered a sincere apology by Tencent for the misunderstanding, according to the announcement.

In addition, LGM and Tencent have confirmed that the two companies plan to partner for real in the future.

Despite the fact that the two companies have not announced details of this future partnership, the announcement has managed to go viral on the internet and has become a partnership trailer.

Has the title deed lost its sanctity? – The Star, Kenya

Owning land in Kenya, especially in the big towns and their suburbs, should be added to the list of 1,000 ways to die.

How else can one describe a scenario in which a hard-working Kenyan who earns an honest living buys a piece of land after undertaking due diligence, takes a loan and develops it, starts a family, raises his children then one day, out of the blues and in his twilight years, the government of the day announces that his home sits on a road, sewer or forest reserve and is earmarked for demolition?

Such is the predicament facing many Kenyans who despite owning genuine land ownership documents (issued by the government) have watched in horror as the same government brought down their dream homes built through sweat and blood. To add salt to injury, there is no chance of compensation. Who will save Kenyans from their government?

World over, successive governments inherit baggage from previous administrations. Some of the land issues that Kenya faces today can be traced back to the colonial era. My argument should not be misconstrued as a blanket condemnation of the state. Indeed, Article 62 of the constitution mandates the state to manage and protect all public land.

It is true that in some instances, individuals have illegally occupied and settled on what is classified as public land. Efforts by the government to eject them ought to be supported by all.

The elephant in the room, however, is in cases where officials in previous governments degazetted some sections of public land in clear abuse of office, allocated themselves and their cronies large tracts of the hived-off land and finally sold it to unsuspecting Kenyans.

Breaking down the top 10 LB recruits in Vanderbilt history – 247Sports

Zach Cunningham made highlight after highlight in 2016, including the game-winning, fourth-down stop at Georgia. (Photo: Icon Sportswire / Contributor, Getty)

In recent seasons, Vanderbilt has churned out some impressive linebacker talent even relative to much of the SEC. Zach Cunningham and Oren Burks were Day 2 NFL Draft picks, Jordan Griffin was a tackling machine and Dimitri Moore could emerge over the next two seasons after being thrown into the fire immediately following a redshirt season in 2017. Cunningham in particular dominated the SEC in his final season on West End.

While Vanderbilt did a good job of developing those players, the Commodores have also brought in quite a bit of talent at the position in the 247Sports era, which dates back to 2000. A number of the program's highest-rated all-time recruits have come at linebacker, and many of those wins on the trail actually came under current head coach Derek Mason as opposed to James Franklin.

Linebackers are next up in my series featuring Vanderbilt's top 10 prospects at each position in the 247Sports era, and the vast majority of these players will be familiar to younger fans they're almost all from the last 10 years. And more than one should play significant roles on the 2020 squad, which bodes well for the long-term health of the program.

Dozens of seals rescued by ‘fake mums’ in innovative wetsuit creation – expressandstar.com

Dozens of orphaned seal pups who were swept away from their mothers during storms are being saved by wetsuit mums.

Seal Rescue Ireland in Co Wexford has seen a recent surge in orphaned seals, with many just days and weeks old.

The injured or orphaned pups are comforted by the fake mums which are made from old wetsuits.

The charity organisation which rescues, rehabilitates and releases native seals from across the coast, said it uses wetsuits that would have ended up in landfill.

Each of the pups needs months of care after being separated from their mother and would not survive if left alone in the wild.

The wetsuit mums are made to look and feel like an adult seal and are placed beside the pups in the centres intensive care unit.

Executive director of Seal Rescue Ireland Melanie Croce said that orphaned seals can become distressed when brought into the centre.

When they become separate from their mother very young they have virtually no chance of survival and thats when we have to step in, help them and bring them back to a healthy weight, and get them big and strong enough to be released into the wild, she said.

They can be very stressed and we look for ways to keep them calm.

The idea kind of evolved and we tried it out and it was a hit. Its a practical way to help them along, its very heart-warming and this is the closest thing they will have to a mother.

We have 17 pups and they all get a fake mum with them. We put them into an ICU container with a heat lamp its a quiet place for them to rest.

After storms we always get a huge amount of calls about abandoned pups so this is how climate change is impacting.

They also become orphaned through human disturbance. People dont realise that seals need to rest and they raise their young on the beach and if you approach a seal the mother might leave and not come back for their young.

The designer behind the wetsuit mum, Lynn Haughton, said she wanted it to resemble an adult seal.

Lynn, who is founder and designer of The Upcycle Movement, had been volunteering at the centre when she was asked to make the wetsuits.

I repurpose recyclable textiles and I have my own design collection focusing on wetsuits so we tried out this new creation and it worked, Ms Haughton said.

It has a recycled waterproof lining filled with off-cuts from old wetsuits so its great to get those used too.

The seals responded really well most have went straight to it but some arent bothered.

Its definitely effective. They are really happy with it and other rescue centres in the UK have contacted me about how they can do it.

Residents urged to take care after house fire in Sealand – LeaderLive

SeaWorld trainer torn limb from limb by killer whale turned ‘psychotic’ by captivity – Mirror Online

Nobody expected Dawn Brancheau - one of SeaWorld's most experienced trainers - to be mauled to death by the killer whale she'd trained and loved.

Witnesses at the Dine with Shamu show could only look on in horror as Tilikum, the largest bull orca in captivity, took her long ponytail in his mouth and dragged her into the pool during a petting session in February 2010.

She tried to pull it free but at 126lbs, Dawn, 40, was no match for the 12,500lb, 22ft-long whale, who only yanked harder.

Her colleagues immediately initiated their emergency procedures, slapping the water in a signal to Tilikum to stop and dropping a weighted net to try and separate the whale from the woman.

But he refused to respond. At one point Dawn managed to break free and swim to the surface but Tilikum slammed into her, clamped his jaws around her middle and shook her violently.

Spectator Victoria Biniak told WKMG-TV how the animal, took off really fast in the tank and he came back, shot up in the air, grabbed the trainer by the waist and started thrashing her around, and one of her shoes flew off.

He was thrashing her around pretty good - it was violent."

Even when staff managed to guide him to the medical lift and raise the floor he refused to let Dawn go. Trainers were forced to pry his jaws open and pull their colleague free as her arm came off in his mouth.

She had been scalped and dismembered and had almost every bone in her body broken before being drowned.

And despite SeaWorld putting the incident down to 'trainer error', several former trainers claimed they believed Tilikum knew exactly what he was doing.

"He got her down and that was it - she wasn't getting out," former trainer Jonathan Smith told Outside magazine.

"I truly believe that they are smart enough to detect and know what they are doing. He's going to know she is trying to get to the surface."

Former trainer Jeffrey Ventre agreed. "If they let you out, it's because they decide to," he added.

"We don't know for sure what motivated Tilikum. But there's no doubt that he knew exactly what he was doing. He killed her."

But what many didn't know is that Tilikum had killed before.

He'd been involved in the 1991 death of a 20-year-old trainer at Sealand in Victoria, Canada before being sold to SeaWorld.

And in 1999 Daniel Dukes, 27, was found splayed naked on Tilikum's back covered in bite marks and puncture wounds.

Out of four known fatalities involving killer whales in captivity, Tilikum had been involved in three.

Experts told 2013 documentary Blackfish they believed his capture and captivity had rendered the intelligent, sensitive animal 'psychotic' - claims SeaWorld has denied.

He was just two years old when he was torn away from his family off the coast of Iceland and taken to a concrete holding tank at Hafnarfjrdur Marine Zoo near Reykjavk.

There, he reportedly spent close to a year either swimming in circles or floating still on the surface before being shipped to the rundown Sealand of the Pacific, a marine park just outside Victoria, on British Columbia's Vancouver Island in 1984.

The documentary heard how he was housed with two older female orcas named Haida II and Nootka IV who sought dominance, with females being at the top of the social structure in the wild.

For 14 hours a day, the incompatible trio were allegedly forced into a 26ft wide enclosed mental-sided pool known as the module where the females raked Tilikum with their teeth in the darkness.

He is said to have started suffering from stomach ulcers and was eventually isolated in a medical pool to protect him from the bloody attacks.

And on February 20, 1991, the trio killed University of Victoria marine biology student and part-time trainer Keltie Byrne, 20, when she slipped and fell into the orca pool after a show.

According to witnesses, one whale grabbed her in its mouth and dragged her around the pool underwater.

Horrified witnesses described how the champion swimmer screamed, "I don't want to die," as she fought to escape and reach the side. But every time she managed to break free, the orcas pulled her back.

"I just heard her scream my name," trainer Karen McGee recalled.

"I threw the life-ring out to her. She was trying to grab the ring, but the whale, basically, wouldn't let her. To them it was a play session, and she was in the water."

They tried to distract the trio by throwing fish and banging buckets but none of their usual commands worked. Keltie is said to have come up screaming one last time before she finally drowned.

It took employees two hours to get the orcas to release the Keltie's body, which the whales had stripped and covered in bruises from bite marks.

Al Bolz, Sealand's manager, told reporters at the time, "It was just a tragic accident. I just can't explain it."

But Paul Spong, director of OrcaLab, in British Columbia who had done research at Sealand, saw it a different way.

"If you pen killer whales in a small steel tank, you are imposing an extreme level of sensory deprivation on them," he said.

"Humans who are subjected to those same conditions become mentally disturbed."

The park closed soon after and Tilikum was sold to SeaWorld Orlando where he sired 21 calves, making him the industry's most prolific breeder.

There, trainers told the documentary they were unaware of his past, but on the morning of July 6, 1999, SeaWorld physical trainer Michael Dougherty glanced in the underwater viewing area by his office and saw Tilikum looking back with two human feet hanging down his side.

The victim was Daniel Dukes, 27, who had attended the park the day before and evaded security to stay overnight, seemingly to take a moonlight swim with Tilikum.

His clothes were found in a neat pile by the side of the pool and an autopsy discovered he'd suffered cuts and puncture wounds to his head, body and left leg with his testicles ripped open.

Without camera footage or witnesses, the coroner recorded a verdict of death by drowning and hypothermia.

Then came Dawn's killing.

A SeaWorld spokesman has denied that Tilikums killing of three people showed aggressive intent and in January 2017 he died from a bacterial infection aged 35.

Heres Why Sealand Capital Galaxy (LON:SCGL) Must Use Its Cash Wisely – Simply Wall St

Theres no doubt that money can be made by owning shares of unprofitable businesses. For example, although Amazon.com made losses for many years after listing, if you had bought and held the shares since 1999, you would have made a fortune. But while the successes are well known, investors should not ignore the very many unprofitable companies that simply burn through all their cash and collapse.

So, the natural question for Sealand Capital Galaxy (LON:SCGL) shareholders is whether they should be concerned by its rate of cash burn. In this article, we define cash burn as its annual (negative) free cash flow, which is the amount of money a company spends each year to fund its growth. Lets start with an examination of the businesss cash, relative to its cash burn.

See our latest analysis for Sealand Capital Galaxy

You can calculate a companys cash runway by dividing the amount of cash it has by the rate at which it is spending that cash. As at June 2019, Sealand Capital Galaxy had cash of UK62k and no debt. In the last year, its cash burn was UK478k. So it had a cash runway of approximately 2 months from June 2019. Its extremely surprising to us that the company has allowed its cash runway to get that short! You can see how its cash balance has changed over time in the image below.

Whilst its great to see that Sealand Capital Galaxy has already begun generating revenue from operations, last year it only produced UK587k, so we dont think it is generating significant revenue, at this point. Therefore, for the purposes of this analysis well focus on how the cash burn is tracking. Wed venture that the 68% reduction in cash burn over the last year shows that management are, at least, mindful of its ongoing need for cash. Sealand Capital Galaxy makes us a little nervous due to its lack of substantial operating revenue. We prefer most of the stocks on this list of stocks that analysts expect to grow.

Theres no doubt Sealand Capital Galaxys rapidly reducing cash burn brings comfort, but even if its only hypothetical, its always worth asking how easily it could raise more money to fund further growth. Companies can raise capital through either debt or equity. Commonly, a business will sell new shares in itself to raise cash to drive growth. We can compare a companys cash burn to its market capitalisation to get a sense for how many new shares a company would have to issue to fund one years operations.

Sealand Capital Galaxy has a market capitalisation of UK2.0m and burnt through UK478k last year, which is 24% of the companys market value. Thats not insignificant, and if the company had to sell enough shares to fund another years growth at the current share price, youd likely witness fairly costly dilution.

Even though its cash runway makes us a little nervous, we are compelled to mention that we thought Sealand Capital Galaxys cash burn reduction was relatively promising. After looking at that range of measures, we think shareholders should be extremely attentive to how the company is using its cash, as the cash burn makes us uncomfortable. On another note, we conducted an in-depth investigation of the company, and identified 5 warning signs for Sealand Capital Galaxy (4 cant be ignored!) that you should be aware of before investing here.

Of course Sealand Capital Galaxy may not be the best stock to buy. So you may wish to see this free collection of companies boasting high return on equity, or this list of stocks that insiders are buying.

If you spot an error that warrants correction, please contact the editor at editorial-team@simplywallst.com. This article by Simply Wall St is general in nature. It does not constitute a recommendation to buy or sell any stock, and does not take account of your objectives, or your financial situation. Simply Wall St has no position in the stocks mentioned.

We aim to bring you long-term focused research analysis driven by fundamental data. Note that our analysis may not factor in the latest price-sensitive company announcements or qualitative material. Thank you for reading.

Prosecuting, Amanda York said it was at 1.20am when police spotted Lyon driving his green Mitsubishi and appeared to be tapping his brakes for no reason, and had strayed over the central line on two occasions.

When stopped and asked if he had been drinking, Lyon replied: "I have had a couple, yeah."

After initially refusing to get in the back of the police car, Lyon co-operated with the drink-drive test and blew 49 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, compared to the legal limit of 35.

When interviewed, he said he had been to see his son in a band and had not eaten that day.

He had seven convictions for eight previous offences, the last in 2018 for battery.

Lyon, defending himself, said: "There is no excuse for drinking and driving. I am not in the habit of that."

He added he had drunk one pint in the afternoon with two further pints that evening, and had not had anything to eat.

He explained he lived remotely in Pentre Halkyn with his wife, who had Huntington's, and there were no bus routes.

He said he had diabetes and was at risk of getting coronavirus and had respiratory issues.

Lyon added: "I can only beg for leniency."

Magistrates imposed the minimum 12-month driving ban, with the option of Lyon taking a drink-drive rehabilitation course which would reduce his ban by one third.

He must pay a 120 fine plus 85 court costs and a 32 victim surcharge.

Sealand reduces transit time between Chile and the US for table grapes – FreshPlaza.com

SeaLand has achieved a significant reduction in transit times from Chile to the east coast of the United States, by improving its CLX service and connections. This positions the company as one of the best alternatives for exporting table grapes to the North American market.

The commercial manager of Sealand in Chile, Ignacio Urzua, stated that this season they intend "to be a relevant player in the market, which allows our clients to be competitive, improve control over their cargo, and have full visibility of their logistics."

With the new changes in its services, the company improves its transit times from San Antonio to strategic ports on the east coast of the United States, such as Philadelphia and Port Everglades, in just 18 days, with a convenient arrival on Monday. Meanwhile, the transit time to the port of Savannah is 21 days with arrival on Fridays. This represents an improvement of 4 to 5 days compared to last year.

SeaLand has also deepened its digital development by using the Captain Peter platform, which allows users to monitor their shipments during the trip, receive notifications and advice, temperature details, connections/disconnections, etc. The new transit times, added to the technology applied to the containers, allow better traceability and load control, which means the fruits arrive in better conditions.

Sealand has also focused on delivering a complete logistics service, one of the company's global objectives.

"Both at origin and at the destination, we offer all logistics services related to cargo handling, including land transport, comprehensive document service, deconsolidation of freight, storage, inspections, etc. Our goal is to continue positioning ourselves as the leading logistics integrator in the region, delivering more and better solutions, beyond the maritime service. In the case of grapes, the goal will always be to bring the product closer to consumers," concluded Urzua.

China firms in $10 billion share sale rush as funding rules eased amid virus worries – Reuters

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Listed Chinese companies are queuing up to issue shares and have already announced plans to raise more than $10 billion in the past week after fundraising rules were relaxed to help ease cash strains caused by the coronavirus.

FILE PHOTO: A woman wearing a face mask crosses a road after the extended Lunar New Year holiday caused by the novel coronavirus outbreak, in Beijing's central business district, China February 10, 2020. REUTERS/Stringer/File Photo

More than 50 companies, including Bank of Ningbo (002142.SZ) and battery maker Yinghe Technology (300457.SZ), have published as of Thursday fresh or revised plans to raise as much as 73 billion yuan ($10.4 billion) through private placements, according to Reuters calculations.

The new rules allow companies to sell shares worth up to 30% of their share capital via private placements compared with 20% previously. The number of investors allowed to participate in such placements was lifted to 35 from 10.

The changes also make the deals more attractive to investors by halving the lock-up periods and enabling more flexible pricing.

The rush to market comes as China has been pumping liquidity into the financial system, cutting interest rates as well as easing other funding avenues, in a bid to limit the economic damage from the coronavirus that has killed over 2,000 people and stalled many business activities.

The share sales will also be helped by a resurgent stock market. The blue-chip CSI300 .CSI300 has rebounded roughly 13% from a low hit on February 3 when traders returned after the new year break, compared with 3.8% for the U.S. S&P 500 .SNP benchmark over the same period.

China cut its benchmark lending rate on Thursday, helping lift the tech-heavy ChiNext index .CHINEXTP to the highest level in almost three years.

Investors are encouraged by monetary easing, and are looking beyond the epidemic, said Wu Kan, a portfolio manager at Soochow Securities Co.

China needs a booming stock market to help channel funding to the real economy.

Relaxation of the rules comes as a relief to many companies. More than 75% of respondents in a survey of over 140 companies by Sealand Securities, said the epidemic was straining their liquidity, with smaller firms saying they will burn through their available cash within three months unless the situation normalizes.

Some companies badly hit by the virus reported an 80% slump in revenue.

But the relaxed standards represent a reversal of Chinas stance since officials sharply tightened share placement rules following the 2015-16 market crash, where reckless fundraising was seen as a contributing factor.

Xu Chao, analyst at the Pacific Securities, said the rule changes represented a very strong loosening signal from the authorities.

Private placements raised just 122.9 billion yuan last year from a peak of 1 trillion yuan in 2016, according to Kaiyuan Securities, which expects fundraising via this route to at least double in 2020 from 2019.

The easier access to funds could increase the risk of moral hazard, some analysts have warned.

Its a double-edged sword, said Fan Lei, economist at Sealand Securities, who said the moves implied regulators were becoming more tolerant toward market speculation, often dubbed stir frying.

A bit of stir-frying helps attract money into the market, Fan said.
