Review: The Rental, a thriller starring Dan Stevens, is worth the stay – San Antonio Express-News

Airbnb, Couchsurfing and similar platforms where you vacation in someones house instead of a hotel have taken a major hit due to COVID-19. Not only are people not traveling much but what used to be these apps primary appeal getting to play like a local in some exotic, far-flung destination now feels to some like playing Russian roulette.

Now comes The Rental, an effectively chilly little thriller about a vacation gone very wrong that is, for the home-sharing business, like a poisonous, little cinematic cherry on top of an especially toxic pandemic parfait.

Charlie (Dan Stevens), wife Michelle (Alison Brie), his business partner Mina (Sheila Vand) and his brother/Minas boyfriend, Josh (Jeremy Allen White) are urban, millennial Oregonians who decide to take a getaway weekend to somewhere along the states rugged coast.

Charlie and Mina, who have some sort of start-up thats about to pop, have long hours ahead of them so why not a little downtime before the real work starts? And theyre all best friends and that beautiful, well-appointed house online right along the beach above the crashing waves looks so perfect and its not going to book itself. What could possibly go wrong?

If you say everything, you certainly dont need a weatherman to know which way this wind is blowing.

Quick take: Suspense that hits home

Where to see it: Opens Thursday in theaters; on demand starting Friday

As directed by actor Dave Franco, in his feature debut, from a script by Franco and Joe Swanberg (the director of Drinking Buddies and Digging for Fire), The Rental is a lean, well-crafted ensemble piece where the horror is less about jump scares and as much about what frights comes from within our two, picture-perfect couples arent quite what they appear as without.

But, yeah, there is something weird about this place. It could be the rangy, intolerant guy, Taylor (the always solid Toby Huss, Halt and Catch Fire) who manages the house for his brother. He turned down an online request from Mina, whos Middle Eastern, to rent the property but approved Charlie a mere hour later.

Mina wants to make a stink about that but everyone else minimizes her feelings, telling her basically to get over it. I mean, look at this house! Check out that view! Have you seen the hot tub?

Or it could be something else altogether thats the problem.

Though the stories are different, The Rental is reminiscent of the 2015 film The Gift, the feature-film directorial debut of another young actor, Joel Edgerton. Both feature tight-knit ensembles and psychological tension that comes from situations that feel emotionally and physically authentic. The Rental even has the added benefit at clocking in at less than 90 minutes so theres little wasted time.

Having said that, there is one big logic flaw in The Rental that might have you ready to throw the remote at the screen but, thankfully, the rest of the film is diverting enough that its not completely weighed down by it.

If nothing else, The Rental might make you pause for a few seconds, with a finger hovering nervously over the mouse, before booking that next dream vacation.

Have a good trip.

Running time: 88 minutes

Rating: R (violence, profanity, drug use, sexuality)

Memories of ‘Russian roulette’ for family as lorry and car crashed into home – Burton Mail

Not again! was the thought of a shocked homeowner after two vehicles ploughed through their property in the space of just one week.

The incidents happened on a bad corner on the A444 in the tiny hamlet of Acresford near Donisthorpe and Overseal in May 1982.

The first incident on a Thursday morning involved a car carrying three people from the Tamworth area which ploughed through the dining room of Mick and Hazel Underwood after leaving the road.

All of the occupants of the vehicle escaped without serious injury.

Following this crash, the Underwood family, including their five-year-old son William, went to stay with family in Castle Bromwich for the weekend.

When they returned on Monday morning they found a cement tanker in their garden after the lorry had left the road and ploughed through a garage, which had purposely been built as a buffer in case such an accident occurred.

The lorry was driven by a man from Albert Village who was described as having a lucky escape after he was thrown through the windscreen of the truck cab suffering just minor cuts and bruises.

Eye witness Pamela Pizzey of Cricket Cottage said: I was in the bedroom at the time doing my hair and I heard this screeching. I shot to the window and saw the lorry screeching towards the fence.

Speaking in 1982, homeowner Mick Underwood, age 39, said: It has just about ruined us. My wife said she would certainly not return after Thursdays accident and she will never return now.

Im pleased in a way because it strengthens my case about the dangers of the corner. But I wont be coming back it would be like playing Russian roulette.

Following the incidents, villagers pressed for extensive road improvements on the bend to reduce the dangers.

Roanoke schools’ digital ‘town hall’ will address school reopening questions Thursday evening – Roanoke Times

Roanoke families, teachers and community members will be able to have questions answered Thursday about Roanoke City Public Schools proposed reopening plan during a virtual town hall hosted by Superintendent Verletta White.

The district has pledged to answer as many questions as possible during the town hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The plan tentatively involves sending students to the classroom four full days per week, Mondays through Thursdays. A fully remote, online option also will be available.

The plan is contingent on at least 30% of students choosing the remote option, leaving parents wondering how the plan may change if that doesnt happen. Although that threshold was met in the districts initial survey, only 60% of the districts enrollment completed the survey, so the figure could shift as the district collects formal responses.

The Roanoke Education Association, a local chapter of the Virginia Education Association, published a statement Monday calling for the district to scale back its plan to a maximum of two days per week of in-person learning or 100% virtual.

The statement focused on the increasing COVID-19 case numbers in the Roanoke Valley, especially in younger people. While younger people are less likely to die of COVID-19 or become severely ill, President Bettye Bell questioned whether the district was willing to take the risk: Are we playing Russian Roulette with the lives of our students?

What is Pa.s favorite snack food? The answer from this study shouldnt surprise you – pennlive.com

Zinnia.com, a website for job seekers, recently analyzed Google Trends to determine each states favorite snack food.

It found that Oreos are the favorite in five states, sunflower seeds are popular in the Midwest and most of us prefer sweet over salty snacks.

In Pennsylvania, Zinnia determined that our favorite snack food is Hersheys.

We like that answer. Not only because it is local but also because there are a gazillion kinds of candy under Hersheys.

There, of course, are the obvious milk chocolate, dark chocolate, Hershey Kisses.

But the brand also includes miniatures, snack mixes, nuggets, syrups, Kit Kat, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Krackel, Mr. Goodbar, Hugs, Reeses Pieces, Twizzlers, Mounds, Almond Joy, York Peppermint Patties and the variations of some of those big peanut butter cups, little peanut butter cups, white chocolate peanut butter cups, Kisses with almonds, Cookies and Cream Kisses, Caramel Kisses and so on.

The study also found that Pringles, Fritos, Doritos, Cheez Its and Cheetos were popular along with Alaskas granola bars (really Alaska?).

Illinois likes Skinny Pop, Kansas likes Nutter Butter cookies and Michigan snackers are reaching for South Patch Kids.

Zinnia said it compiled the results after looking at 45 different favorite snack foods in Google Trends.

We, being sane reasonable humans, excluded gum and sodas from out pretend vending machine snack roulette. Hopefully, you dont swallow gum. Plus, liquid isnt a snack its a liquid. We then selected a range of popular chips, cookies, candies and a few other vending machine favorites.

I am moving to Montana their favorite is Rice Krispy Treats. Or Kentucky, I like Fritos, too.

Live casino: Replicating the land-based experience is no longer enough – Casino Beats

Live casino remains an important bridge for offline to online play, writes Pragmatic Plays Lana Bleichyk (pictured), but replicating the same experience is no longer enough as the verticals big selling point should instead be how it differentiates from traditional games rooted in the land-based environment.

Live casino was already a vital element of the online gaming offering, with innovative games joining classic land-based staples to offer a unique experience. Gradually, due to advances in technology, live casino titles have been able to not only bring the land-based experience to players devices, but also add enhanced capabilities such as diverse camera angles, bet functionalities and sped-up gameplay. The role of live casino is not to replicate the land-based environment, but to offer a different, more immersive experience.

However, with the disruption of the land-based industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic, live casino has become an even more critical product to operators. With its role straddling the gap between land-based and online gameplay, live casino has filled a hole for players who couldnt access their favourite casinos, thereby offering an interesting cross-sell opportunity for suppliers.

Among the staple of live games are those that are rooted in land-based casinos globally. Similar to brick and mortar operators, roulette, baccarat and blackjack are a requirement for any live casino supplier. However, the verticals selling point revolves around how it can differentiate these products from traditional games.

With mobile devices being more powerful than ever, players can now play hands of blackjack on the go, with features far exceeding those of the land-based experience. 4K cameras give players angles and clarity adding a whole new level of immersion to a live table, while professionally trained dealers allow for smooth, uninterrupted experiences.

From fast-paced variants of classic titles, such as Speed Roulette and Speed Baccarat, to localised content which gives international players a homely feel to their betting experience, players desire more. Replicating the land-based experience is no longer enough. They want innovative games and quick-fire experiences that together offer something truly different.

Live casino titles stimulate a players appetite through quality content and a batch of convenient features. From fun, quick-win games to more complex, skill-based casino titles, familiarity with verticals allows players to venture into a wider spread of products.

At Pragmatic Play, we are dedicated to creating live casino titles that encompass all tastes, from the traditional player who enjoys all the elation of land-based casinos to the mobile-first player who likes to play on the go. While tastes and preferences vary, Pragmatic Play aims to cater for all. This has seen the expansion of our live offering with innovative titles, such as our most recent release Mega Sic Bo, alongside our classic games.

With appetites for new content ever-growing, it is our job as suppliers to offer the products that operators want for their players. Our Mega Sic Bo title is a modern variant of the traditional Chinese table game, played with three dice.

With 52 betting positions, the game already offers plenty of enjoyment, but we have taken it to the next level with Mega Multipliers. By adding this thrilling element, players can now win up to 1,000x their stake, leading to Mega Wins.

By taking a title that already has fans across the globe, and adding an element of our slot titles, we have brought a whole new facet to table games.

Live casino has a significant opportunity for growth as we enter a period of the new normal. For those who want to enjoy casino classics from the comfort of their own home or fancy a game of oulette on their mobile device, to those looking to try out exciting new products without having to leave their house, live casino has everything to offer.

Zidane, Ronaldinho, Juninho Five iconic footballers and their signature moves – The Football Faithful

The history of the beautiful game is packed full of legendary figures who have defined occasions and eras, but perhaps the greatest testament to any players legacy is being forever remembered for their signature skill.

Creative ingenuity is all the more admired in the confines of a team sport, and this selection of iconic players were never afraid to express themselves with extraordinary pieces of individualism.

These players may not have necessarily invented these superb skills but there is no doubt they mastered them at the very highest level, and it is difficult to see any player repeat these moves without evoking memories of the stars most synonymous with each moment of magic.

Here are five iconic footballers and their unforgettable signature moves:

Amongst the most commonly used skills in the modern game, there is no player who perfected the step-over quite like Ronaldo Nazario.

The original carnation of what would become a famous footballing name is regarded by many as the greatest number nine to have graced the game, an implausibly complete footballer whose bullish strength and balletic balance captivated like few others when in full flight.

From the moment a teenage Ronaldo set foot in Europe defenders were at his mercy, with backline after backline failing in their attempts to stop the exhilarating Brazilian and his unique whirlwind of speed and skill.

Ronaldo had all manner of tricks in his extensive repertoire, but none would remain as synonymous as the step-over. The image of the striker feigning one way before flashing by the other is amongst the most defining of nineties football, the flawless execution of the technique leaving many a defender and notably a goalkeeper utterly perplexed.

Ronaldo 10 of the best quotes about the Brazilian legend

The finest footballer of a generation and a man whose touch and technique were unrivalled throughout a storied career of skill and success.

The roulette, also known as the pirouette and Marseille turn amongst other names, has been executed by several leading names including the likes of Garrincha and Diego Maradona, but perhaps never quite with the artistic grace of Zinedine Zidane.

Figurehead of a golden generation for French football, the images of Zidane spinning away from challenges is a microcosm of the players magic, a playmaker for whom time looked to stand still whenever he received possession.

The protagonist for club and country and a player whose artistry is yet to be repeated, Zidane wasthestar amongst stars for both France and Real Madrid, creating moment after moment of majestic magic including his fabled signature spin.

Zinedine Zidane 15 of the best Quotes about the French Legend

No player took free-kicks like Juninho Pernambucano.

That might seem an outlandish statement, but its one thats difficult to argue given the Samba stars list of set-piece stunners.

The knuckle-ball may now be a common technique with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Didier Drogba amongst the names to have fired free-kicks with deadly and deceiving dip, but Juninho was the innovative master of the modern phenomenon.

Juninhos best years came in the colours of Lyon, winning seven successive Ligue 1 titles with the French side and delighting crowds with his excellence from a dead-ball. The Brazilians brilliance was almost witchcraft, striking a ball that failed to spin making it swerve and shake to leave opposition goalkeepers grasping at nothing but thin air.

Juninho says his technique was tweaked from past greats of Brazilian football, a strike of a football that seemed defy both gravity and science and one the playmaker firmly made his own.

Ranking the five players with the most free-kicks in football history

Expressive and exciting, brilliant and bamboozling, Ronaldinhos brief reign as footballs finest player saw the Brazilian embarrass defenders in signature style and all with a smile upon his face.

Ronaldinhos fun-loving style was visibly apparent whenever he stepped out onto the pitch, a player who relished his role as an on-field entertainer, his showboating style endearing him to the masses the world over.

Under-the-wall free-kicks and no-look passes are amongst the skills the former Ballon dOr winner helped bring to public consciousness, but it is the elastico for which he will forever be most synonymous with.

Dribbling at speed with spellbinding skill, Ronaldinho would flip the ball one way with the outside of his foot, before bringing it back in one movement with the inside of the same foot to leave opposition players twisted and turned.

A gifted genius whose fun and flair inspired a generation.

Ronaldinho 10 of the best quotes about the magical Brazilian

Johan Cruyffs influence on football is likely to be everlasting, one of the sports all-time greats and a pioneer of Total Football a starring influence on the history of both Dutch football and Barcelona.

The three-time Ballon dOr winner is also the inventor of arguably footballs most famously named skill, his Cruyff turn shooting to prominence during a World Cup fixture between the Netherlands and Sweden in 1974.

The move came with Cruyff facing towards his own goal and tightly marked, before feigning a pass and dragging the ball behind his standing leg to spin 180 degrees and leave the defender completely bewildered.

So simplistic yet almost impossible to stop, the Cruyff turn is another indelible mark left on football by one of the greatest to have ever played the game.

A week into Encore Boston Harbors reopening, the states eastern casino looks to the future – MassLive.com

What lies beyond the pandemic? MassForward is MassLives series examining the journey of Massachusetts businesses through and beyond the coronavirus pandemic.

________________

Six feet social distancing, plexiglass and the temporary closure of poker tables. The reopening of Encore Boston Harbor on June 12 is a very different one than the opening just over a year ago on June 23.

Poker, roulette and craps are not available but Brian Gullbrants, Encore Boston Harbor president is working on a solution to open them back up.

We do have a plan for roulette and craps, Gullbrants, who took over as president in Oct. 2019, told MassLive. We are designing what we believe is a safe environment with plexiglass that we will propose to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission in the coming weeks and hope that theyre accepting of those protocols at safety measures that allow it to be safe.

Plexiglass has been wrapped around a craps table with dividers that will separate each player. Gullbrants said that each table will have two sets of dice and while one set is in play, the other will be washed in a disinfecting solution. And this cycle will continue with the next player and the next.

Boston Encore President Brian Gullbrants is entusiastic about the reopening that took place on July 12. He wants to see how the reopening goes before opening up more of the casino and hotel. With the pandemic still a threat, he told MassLive that the health and safety of the patrons is paramount and would close the doors if he felt too many people were on the casino floor. (Douglas Hook / MassLive)

The team designing the mockup for the eventual demonstration to the MGC has even been looking at making the plexiglass slightly convex so the player, as they throw the dice, doesnt come into contact with the transparent plastic.

This is still a prototype, however, and those that still want to play the games that are yet to open can still do so on electronic table games that have also been separated by 6-foot-high plexiglass.

In March, the two-level casino had 3,100 slot machines, roughly 2,500 table games and private gaming rooms. After the reopening in July there are 1,900 slot machines, 560 table games and the private rooms are still available.

The new guidelines include rules and recommendations for screening guests, including a requirement to make hand sanitizer available and a suggestion to conduct temperature checks. Social distancing guidelines for slots include a requirement that casinos turn off every other slot machine and remove chairs, and to either ensure a minimum of 6 feet between slot positions or install 6-foot-tall plexiglass dividers.

Director of the Front Office Caitlyn Weller has informed her staff to clean their areas after each interaction with a customer to ensure the maximum safe environment for staff and patrons alike. (Douglas Hook / MassLive)

As patrons walk through the doors of the Encore Boston Harbor, into the grand entrance, they see a series of signs and red cordons placed to dictate the direction they are to take.

Encore installed thermal imaging cameras at its entrances to detect any customer with a temperature over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Anyone with a high temperature would be taken for a secondary screening with a temporal thermometer. Visitors who have a temperature over 100.4 degrees would not be allowed in.

Gullbrants demonstrated on the monitor how effective the infrared camera is. Although one patron had set off the alert once, there have been no other incidents to date. And the visitors temperature was taken again by a member of staff and turned out to be a false alarm.

No expense has been spared in the redesign of the casino to follow the guidelines, even down to the signs on the floor. The signs on the floor were designed for each area specifically. For example, the coffee shop has a coffee cup-shaped social distancing notices and the casino floor has messages in the shape of a poker chip.

Gullbrants said that he will be keeping an eye on crowding in the casino and will not hesitate to tell the staff to stop visitors from entering if he feels there are too many.

As each customer walks through the door an infrared camera takes their temperatures. If it is about 100 degrees, a staff member will take their temperature with a handheld thermometer. The person, if they are above 100 degrees, will be asked to leave. (Douglas Hook / MassLive)

Wynn Resorts reported a 42.3% decline in revenues for the first quarter of 2020, with operating revenues at $953.7 million. The losses at the companys properties in China and Las Vegas were partially offset by the Everett casinos operating revenues, which stood at $140.9 million.

But the resort casino is now losing millions daily after closing to the public on March 15 and agreeing to pay workers through the end of May. In the reopening plan, Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox estimated that the decision to pay employees through May 31 is costing about $3 million daily, amounting to a total of $220 million. The casinos in Nevada are closed, while the ones in China are open to limited business.

Wynn Resorts, the casinos parent company, put off furloughs after closing on March 15 in light of the coronavirus pandemic, paying the roughly 4,200 employees who work at the $2.6 billion Everett casino. The $3 million a day amounts to roughly $220 million between mid-March and May, the company said.

Perplex glass has been installed where the six feet of social distancing cannot be adhered to and slot machines have been shut down to promote social distancing. All this is in accordance with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. (Douglas Hook / MassLive)

Encore Boston Harbor announced furloughs for 3,000 employees as the Everett casino awaited the start of the states third reopening phase to resume its casino operations and dining services. During the shutdown 700 essential staff were kept on.

With the reopening, more than 1,700 employees have been rehired.

When the casino opened in 2019, 125,000 people applied for work and only 3% were hired, according to Gullbrants. He said that unlike some other businesses across the state, where the unemployment check and COVID-19 stimulus package is better than their wage, Encore has had no trouble hiring back its staff.

Encore regularly buys the largest number of flowers in Massachusetts which are planted around the grounds and throughout the casino. Before the pandemic, there was a team of 20-25 gardeners to plant the large numbers of flowers being delivered as well as attending to the grounds and floral decorations throughout the casino, according to Patrick Chadwick, director of horticulture and floral. Now there is a team of 10 and Chadwick.

While the casino was shut down and the horticultural and floral staff furloughed, Chadwick cared for the gardens himself.

Patrick Chadwick, director of horticulture and floral at Boston Encore has been able to hire back half of his staff and hopes, when the casino starts to return to the previous numbers of visitors before the shutdown, he will hire back the rest. (Douglas Hook / MassLive)

Eric Kraus, senior vice president of communications and public affairs said that 135,000 flowers and plants were given away during the shutdown because it would have been pointless to keep them. He told MassLive that they were given to local municipalities and charitable organizations that showed interest in them.

Encore has hired all the horticultural staff back but not all of the floral. Because of fewer numbers, those working the grounds and floral decorations in the casino have had to branch out and try their hand in other areas.

The florist has taken over the interior plant program here at Encore Boston Harbor, said Chadwick. Traditionally, that would have been done by a different role. But now theyre maintaining all the floral arrangements but their also taking care of all the palm [trees], the lobby. Theyre doing all that.

Boston Encore President Brian Gullbrants is enthusiastic about the reopening that took place on July 12. He wants to see how the reopening goes before opening up more of the casino and hotel. With the pandemic still a threat, he told MassLive that the health and safety of the patrons is paramount and would close the doors if he felt too many people were on the casino floor. (Douglas Hook / MassLive)

Every moment I want more of my staff back, said Chadwick who has been able to hire all the horticultural staff back but not the floral staff.

Many of the staff at the casino have had to take on more responsibility to ensure that health and safety at the casino are maintained amid a smaller staff than before.

Were taking steps forward to get back to some sense of normalcy and this is a part of that journey, said Gullbrants. This is one of those steps that we continue to take, and I think Governor [Charlie] Baker has been very vigilant and very measured in his rolling out of the different phases. Were highly supportive and should we have to take a step back we will. But were hoping that with our due diligence, our extensive measures of health and safety protocols and our customers compliance, we can continue to maintain a wonderful, safe, fun, environment for all to enjoy. Thats really our focus right now.

Online casino sites: why these are the UK’s best online casinos – Telegraph.co.uk

Finding the best online casino sites in the UK doesnt begin and end with sourcing the best online casino welcome bonus offers. The sites that have achieved a place on our list have loads of brilliant features that will keep you coming back long after youve played through your sign-up bonus.

Which site has the best live casino? Which one is best for blackjack? Or jackpots? Find out more below, but first, heres the all-important list.

Check out these online casino offers.

All the online casino sites that made our list are brilliant all-rounders where you will find an excellent selection of card games, table games and slots combined with a good level of customer service. Below we delve deeper to reveal the particular areas in which they offer a standout experience.

A few of the sites on our list of the best online casinos provide player guides to much loved classics such as blackjack, baccarat or roulette, but few strike as good a balance between being brief enough for beginners while containing enough information to be informative as bet365.

The bet365 player guides for blackjack, baccarat and roulette are easily accessible from a tab on the casino navigation and lay things out in a simple, digestible manner thats great whether youre an online casino rookie or just dipping in for a quick refresher.

There are all kinds of reasons why even the most experienced players may need a little help from their online casino site from time to time. Maybe youre having trouble triggering a promotion, need help verifying your ID, or setting up deposit and withdrawal methods, for example.

In such circumstances having someone to speak to is really reassuring and Unibet Casino offers support to account holders 24/7.

Unlike their few rivals who can match this commitment to customer satisfaction, this relates not just to live chat, but to telephone support from actual human beings. Bravo Unibet.

Condensing all the brilliant features of an online casinos desktop site into an easy-to-use app is a task thats almost impossible to perfect. Compromises with slimming down the breadth of variety on offer, splitting apps into specific casino genres or loading and gameplay are essential.

Betways Casino Slots and Games app is arguably the best out there for providing a great depth and breadth of casino games and slots in one app whilst maintaining a look and feel consistent with the excellent online casino site.

Dont take out word for it, the app has got a rating of 4.7/5 from more than 1,000 user reviews at Apples App Store.

When youre new to an online casino site its great to be able to demo the specific versions of casino table games and slots they offer. That way you can improve your understanding of the rules of each game before putting up your hard-earned cash to play for real money.

Yet few UK online casino sites have a consistent offering when it comes to demo play options, which are often either hard to find or simply not there for some titles.

Step forward 32Red, where the demo play is available on all slots and casino table games (apart from Live Casino for fairly obvious reasons). This is a brilliant feature which does much to enhance the feeling of trust and respect that many players look for in their online casino sites.

Winning a daily jackpot on Paddy Power isnt special, as the self-styled Special One Jos Mourinho reminds us in his advertisements for Paddy Power games, because you have the chance to do so when you play jackpot games each day on the site.

However, when it comes to online casino sites in the UK, Paddy Power is special, with jackpot slots feeding into six progressive jackpots on the site, including four Must Drop Jackpots, each growing constantly.

Alongside its regular daily jackpots, which include prizes that must drop before a certain time or win amount, there are also slots which form part of the Jackpot King network, where the biggest jackpot at the time of writing was heading towards the 3m mark.

Live casino offerings are hugely popular at UK online casino sites as they combine convenience with the atmosphere and social aspects of visiting a physical casino setting.

William Hill Casino is a colossus of a site, substantial enough to have its own sections for Asian and Vegas style games, as well as traditional slots and casino staples.

The live casino offering is of unparalleled depth, particularly when it comes to roulette, while the site also boasts more live baccarat and poker rooms than you will find pretty much anywhere else.

Exclusive tables and a well-stocked arsenal of that latest live casino favourite, game shows, are presented by friendly and engaging hosts that really add to the experience.

Many online casino sites have exclusive slots or their own versions of table game classics, but Betfair Casino offers something truly unique among UK sites with their Exchange Games.

Betfair Casino is a brilliant all-round casino site, with a great selection of slots, blackjack, roulette and baccarat games, but its exchange games add another dimension to proceedings.

Billed as letting you feel what its like to be on the side of the casino, exchange games allow you to watch various table games unfold and back or lay (bet against) the players hands to try and lock in a profit, just as you would do with sports on the Betfair Exchange.

Blackjack is one of the most popular games played at online casino sites so the vast majority of operators make sure they provide a varied offering for fans of the 21 game.

In practice that can mean lots of samey live casino rooms for some casinos, but Betfred also has a great offering away from the live setting, with all kinds of takes on the game. Classic Blackjack is complemented by variants focusing on the best-loved side bets such as Blackjack Perfect Pairs and Blackjack Switch.

Jackpot games, where you can put yourself in line for a mammoth progressive jackpot are there too, along with 10m Blackjack, where a Charlie Rule hand (one of six or more cards without busting) could see you scoop a million times your stake depending upon how many are in your Charlie.

Weve all heard about online poker tournaments, but slots tournaments are growing in popularity all the time. Playing slots online isnt just a matter of man versus machine you know.

Slots tournaments offer you the chance to play in competition with other site members to win cash prizes or free spins and BGO is the place to go whether youre a beginner or tournament veteran.

Why? The diversity of tournaments and the regularity with which the daily and weekly tourneys begin blow other online casinos out of the water when it comes to this aspect of slots gaming.

Existing customer offers and promotions are one of the things that play a part in bringing us back to our favoured online casino sites after weve played through the welcome bonus and theyre something 888 does really well.

Many UK online casinos offers for existing customers are heavily tilted in favour of slots players, but at 888 Casino games fans are treated to an impressive extra incentives to keep them coming back.

Many online casino sites in the UK offer some kind of tie-in with their physical shops, but none can boast such an equally high-quality experience across the virtual and real-life realms as Grosvenor.

Well known to casino regulars for its long-standing bricks-and-mortar casinos around the UK, Grosvenors online casino site is a stylish experience well stocked with classic casino table games, slots and regular promotions.

Its Grosvenor One initiative provides a single wallet to use in the casino and online, the ability to deposit and withdraw from your online account in its physical casinos and regular exclusive online offers and slots bonuses for Grosvenor One members.

Table games like roulette, blackjack or baccarat may have more of an association with the James-Bond-in-Monte-Carlo glamour of the casino, but slots easily rival them for interest when it comes to players at both bricks-and-mortar establishments and online casino sites.

If youre the type of online slots player who likes to switch your target often and takes pleasure in being able to dip in and out of a diverse range of themes, features and volatility levels, try BetVictor.

BetVictors online casino boasts an incredible four-figure serving of slots with more than 1,000 titles available to account holders. Play one slot a day and thatll keep you going for more than three years.

Derren Brown to celebrate 20 years on TV with live stunt this summer – RadioTimes

Derren Brown is celebrating 20 years on Channel 4 with a new stunt, set to be performed and broadcasted live this summer.

In Derren Brown 20 Years of Mind Control: Live, the illusionist will perform his latest psychological trick live on air, before revisiting some of his most jaw-dropping TV moments over the past two decades.

The two-hour special will see Brown look back at some of his most iconic clips, including Russian Roulette Live and the time he correctly predicted the National Lottery result, with viewers able to vote for their favourite Derren Brown moment.

Throughout the show, the public will be asked to choose from a shortlist of five stunts Russian Roulette, The Heist, Hero at 30,000ft, Apocalypse and Pushed to the Edge with Brown revealing the winning moment at the end of the special.

Brown, who released his last show Sacrifice in 2018, is set to surprise one unsuspecting viewer during the special, throughout which he will reveal the incredible stories and meticulous logistics behind each of his stunts.

Twenty years! That was quick. And what a treat to be given this night by the broadcaster that have been so very supportive and nurturing over that time, said Brown in a statement.

I cant imagine two decades with anyone else. Its going to be a fun night.

Phil Harris, Channel 4s Head of Entertainment added: There are very few people within the entertainment industry capable of raising the exhilaration stakes in quite the way Derren does and with him at the helm, this very special celebration should be no different.

The 49-year-old made his television debut in 2000 with Channel 4 series Derren Brown: Mind Control, and has since filmed six shows and 13 specials.

Browns shortlist of stunts include Apocalypse, a 2012 two-part special in which a random member of the public was made to think that he was living in a zombie wasteland, as well as 2010s Hero at 30,000ft, in which Brown hypnotised a man with a flying phobia into piloting a fake plane.

Browns last stage show, Secret, ran from September 2019 until January, with the illusionists next show, Showman, set to tour the UK and Ireland from February 2021 onwards.

Derren Brown 20 Years of Mind Control: Live will air on Channel 4 later this summer.

Coronavirus will be the only winner in this 2020 baseball season – San Francisco Chronicle

Baseball is going to try to start a season.

As a justification, the sport has in a pattern repeated through its history wrapped itself in a swath of civic duty, patriotism and morale-boosting gauze in an attempt to obscure the jagged bottom-line reality of why it is trying to rush a fake little season into the middle of a pandemic.

Do we really need this? Are we really falling for it? Believe me, Id love some carefree sports viewing, but this is unlikely to be that. And judging by the vast majority of feedback Im receiving, most of you arent buying what baseball is trying to sell, either.

In reality, baseball wont be an amusing diversion for a frustrated audience, but could prove to be a very difficult watch. Just as the NFL has become almost impossible to view without flinching at every hard hit, without a looming sense of doom about the future health of the players involved, baseball viewing will carry a new anxiety level.

A sense of dread. Who is going to get the coronavirus next? Where is the roulette wheel going to stop? What will be the repercussions be for that players or coachs family? Will the games have to abruptly end?

A welcome distraction?

Not likely. Not when we know that the baseball players were watching are each receiving multiple tests a week so they can play some games that will carry asterisks forever.

They are getting tested for the coronavirus while the average person cant get a timely test, and if we manage to get one we must wait for days, even weeks to get the results. Essential workers wait in lines in brutal heat for the right to get their nose swabbed so they can scan your groceries or babysit your kids. But Alex Bregman can get tested constantly so he can stand at the plate in an empty stadium and take a ball?

A fun escape?

Not while were trying to teach our kids at home and wondering whether college will be an option in their near future. Not while were trying to figure out how to work at home if were still lucky enough to have a job. Not while the American public is shedding jobs, homes, wealth and future security as the virus soars through communities, ping-pongs around states, defies all attempts by politicians to harness it or minimize it or flat-out pretend it isnt happening.

And just wait until that predicted, dreaded second wave another surge happens right around the time of the bogus playoffs and World Series.

That will be terrific for morale!

Those platitudes about baseball being good for our spirits and national healing have been tossed around since the moment the sport shut down. Commissioner Rob Manfred said it would be an honor for baseball to be part of the countrys comeback. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the sport would be a great morale boost for the country. Agent Scott Boras, busy reaping millions in contract commissions, intoned that baseball can help our nation heal, and that it has always been there in times of loss.

This is an ongoing time of loss. How do you heal when things arent under control? And how soothing is the season when we know the push is just to get to the playoffs and the associated revenue?

But but but what about baseball in South Korea and Japan? What about soccer in Europe? This is why we cant have nice things like sports. We rushed to get things reopened and never, not even remotely, got the virus under control as a country. Those nations where sports are being played? They did the hard part, listened to the scientists and now are able to track and isolate flareups. MLB is attempting to open a 30-team sport, all around the country without quarantine, without those abilities.

The concern about the entertainment value in watching this bogus baseball season doesnt even extend to competitive aspect of play. But thats certainly also in question. In a 60-game season, some teams will fall behind quickly and will, for all intents and purposes, be out of the running after a few weeks. What about those players? Are they supposed to stay motivated under these bizarre, restrictive circumstances? What is the point of playing out a meaningless string in a pandemic, where your loved ones could be put at risk?

Baseball is trying to play games. It would be nice to see a fun pastime, something actually like a normal baseball season with a team winning legitimately at the end.

But the winner will be the coronavirus. As weve already found out the hard way, it always is.

Teenager was a victim of ‘Russian roulette,’ which he was playing with four others, authorities say – Winston-Salem Journal

A teenager who was found shot to death in an abandoned vehicle was playing Russian roulette with four other people when he was shot, authorities said Friday.

Kalil Nathaniel Rice, 19, was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound to his head early Monday in Winston-Salem, police said. Rices body was found shortly after 2 a.m. in an abandoned Kia Sorento in the 1800 block of Gray Avenue.

Investigators have been told that Rice fatally injured himself after one of five people in the vehicle suggested that they play the lethal game, police said.

Russian roulette is a deadly game of chance in which a person spins the cylinder of a revolver holding only one bullet, aims the gun at his or her head, and pulls the trigger.

Detectives are aware that this highly dangerous game is supposed to involve the use of a revolver, Winston-Salem police said. And that the use of a loaded semi-automatic handgun would always result in injury or death to the games participant.

It appears that the people involved in this case didnt realize playing Russian roulette with a semi-automatic handgun would result in someone getting shot, police Capt. Steven Tollie said.

Unfortunately, its trying to make sense out of a nonsensical situation, he said.

Investigators are working with the Forsyth County Medicals Examiner Office to determine if the fatal injury is consistent with being self-inflicted, police said.

The investigation has led to the arrests of Keivaunaugh Cearon Sanders, 19, of Locust Street, and James Michael King Jr., 18, of Lamont Street, both of Winston-Salem, police said.

Detectives say that on July 10, the Kia Sorento was reported stolen from a local dealership. That vehicle was likely stolen on July 3 or July 4.

When Sanders was arrested, officers seized a semi-automatic handgun, police said. That gun was reported stolen on July 12 as part of reported auto break-in.

Investigators allege that King, Sanders and two other people were inside the vehicle when Rice suffered his fatal injury.

King is accused of stealing two vehicles from Parkway Ford of Winston-Salem on July 1, and the 2007 Kia Sorento from Bob King Kia of Winston-Salem on July 10, police said, police said.

On Friday, he was served an outstanding arrest warrant for interference with an electronic monitoring device and charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny and felony possession of a stolen vehicle, police said. King is accused of removing an electronic device that he wore as a condition of probation, police said. King had been convicted of misdemeanor breaking and entering earlier.

Sanders was charged Tuesday with concealment of death, possession of a firearm by a felon, both felonies, and misdemeanor breaking and entering on unrelated matter, police said.

Sanders is accused of removing the gun Rice apparently used to shoot himself, another arrest warrant said. He is also accused of possessing a 9 mm handgun even though he has a felony conviction on his record, according to an arrest warrant. It is illegal in North Carolina for most anyone convicted of a felony to own or possess a firearm.

In May 2018, Sanders pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen motor vehicle and was sentenced to his time served in jail awaiting his court hearing. A judge put him on probation for two years, the warrant said.

Sanders also is accused of breaking into an Anson Street apartment on Monday to seek shelter, according to another warrant. Detectives arrested Sanders on Monday in the 700 block of Anson Street, police said.

90 Day Fiance Happily Ever After Recap: Drive Me Crazy Like A Roulette Wheel – Reality Tea

Last nights episode of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After was filled with hilarious drama. I doubt anyone experiencing it found it funny at the time, but I did! Yes, I am petty! Literally, almost every couple had a completely embarrassing scene that left me just shaking my head. One couple may have realized they arent meant to be together forever.

Larissa Dos Santos Lima has a date with a mystery man. Angela Deem receives a terrifying surprise on her first day in Nigeria. Colt Johnsons mother meets his girlfriend, Jess in Brazil. Karine Staehlewonders should she return to Brazil. Lets get straight into the 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever Afterrecap!

When we last saw Larissa she was nervously entering the courthouse to find out her fate. The good news is she wasnt deported or arrested. The bad news is she will continue to live in fear of those things until she receives her green card. As if her immigration status isnt enough to worry about, Larissa sets her sights on getting a man. She meets up with her ex-Eric Nichols in hopes of working things out. Isnt this the same guy she broke up with via text?

Well, he definitely hasnt forgotten it. He reminds her of the rumors she spread and the police report filed against him. Eric, are you sure you want to deal with this drama again? She literally filed a police report because someone texts her saying she has a cheesy butt. If that doesnt have insane written all over it, I dont know what does. These two can have one another. As crazy as Larissa is, there is something odd about Eric as well.

Debbie Johnson and Colt are on their way to Brazil to meet Jess Caroline and her family. Debbie is worried about traveling abroad for the first time. Despite her fears, she isnt going to let anything get in the way of ensuring Jess isnt taking advantage of her man child. When Colt and Debbie arrive, she instantly becomes the third wheel. I dont know why Jess continues to mention sex every second. Who talks about that when they first meet someones mother?

Debbie, never one to let anything get past her, believes Jess may be trying to get pregnant on purpose. Things get even weirder when the two start exhibiting some serious PDA. Mama Colt becomes ill just watching them. Well, she isnt alone; even I had to resist the urge to vomit. I dont know why we have to be hit over the head with Colts sexual exploits every episode.

Once they arrive at the hotel, Debbie is completely shocked. She realizes that Colt has only booked one room for everyone. Im sorry, but I cant help but laugh. Although its a two closet bedroom suite, there is only a thin sliding door between them. What the hell was Colt thinking? Debbie claims she is tired, but its obvious she really is upset she will have to listen to those two having sex.

This trip is going to be quite interesting. When I say interesting, I mean horrible. If I were Debbie, I would have gone right back downstairs and got another room. There would have been no way in hell, I would be forced to endure those two having sex like rabid animals within earshot. Debbie is so angry. She yells at Jess and slams the door. Well, Id say the trip is off to a great start so far.

Its another day and another reason for Tania Maduro to nag her husband. Despite Syngin Colchester trying his best to make his injured wife happy, its still not enough. While out with a friend, Tania expresses her disappointment in her husbands drinking. She cites him recently having a drink after failing to get a job as another example. She fails to mention the interview was at a bar and the owner offered him a few free drinks. I think most people would have indulged in a drink based on those circumstances. Maybe there is something that we havent seen, but Syngin only seemed mildly tipsy that night. Listening to her, you would think he was a raging drunk.

Syngin takes Tania to dinner in an attempt to ease some of their tension. Almost immediately, she begins berating him. He then expresses his hesitation in living in America permanently. Sigh! What the hell did these two talk about before they got married? Apparently, it wasnt a home, what country to reside in or whether they were soul mates. I would think a couple in a long-distance relationship would have had many conversations about their future.

Its instant karma watching Tania squirm while Syngin explains his hesitation about their relationship. I guess she wants to be the only one to express her discontent. Girl, you better get it together before you lose your man and all those life plans you keep creating alone.

Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa are in California to celebrate their sons birthday. Its only been a day and the trip has already fallen apart. Shortly after arriving, Asuelu packed his things and left. He didnt return until later that night and has since locked himself in his room. Kalanis family is disturbed by Asuelus actions.

Her father can barely hold himself back after hearing his wife and daughters version of events. This is part of the problem. Kalani needs to stop telling her family every issue she has with her husband. At this point, Asuelu feels like he is alone while hiswife has everyones support. Now dont get me wrong, he is completely out of line for his comments about Kalani and her family duties being easy. But no man wants to feel like he has no real input in his marriage and family.

As people arrive for the party, Kalani has to explain why Asuelu is absent. She attempts to once again get him to emerge from the room with no luck. Kalanis father gives Asuelu a lecture about excluding himself from his own sons party. In a confessional interview, her father threatens to lay hands on him the next time.

Finally Asuelu comes outside and attempts to put on a good face for the sake of his son. After the party, Kalani expects an apology, but doesnt receive one. Clearly, he just wants to sweep their argument under the rug. I hope Asuelu grows up, before he loses his family. Regardless I cant feel too bad for Kalani. He acted like a preteen, before she chose to marry him. What did she expect?

Angela is on her way to Nigeria to finally get married to the love of her life, Michael Ilesanmi. I still think he is much too nice for the likes of her, but he is an adult. If he wants to ruin his life, who am I, to stand in the way. Angelas departure is bittersweet. She is experiencing guilt leaving behind her sick mother, but is excited to finally tie the knot.

Angela arrives to warm welcome from her fianc, Michael. This time they have rented an apartment to experience living together. When they first arrive, Angela demands a softer bed, but likes the rest of the apartment. That is until she discovers their other roommate, the rat lying on the kitchen floor.

Even Michael didnt want to pick up that huge rat to dispose of it. A soft bed may the least of her worries, if they continue to have visitors.

Its Elizabeth Potthast Castravets first full day in Moldova and there are already several issues. First, there is a language barrier and her husband is barely translating. As if that wasnt bad enough, Andrei Castravet dares to insult her as a mother and a wife. Apparently, since she isnt a traditional Moldovan wife she is lazy. This time she decided to give him a taste of her own medicine.

She reminds him that she is the breadwinner in their family and he doesnt have a job. That had to burn. Its the truth that always stings the worst. Ironically, he is extremely offended and tells her she is lucky his parents didnt understand her. Umm what? Andrei is the epitome of a chauvinist pig. He has the nerve to judge his wife, but continues to live off of her family. Insert side eye.

Andrei takes Elizabeth out for a fun night out with his friends. This should be interesting. When she asks him to include her into the groups conversation, he accuses her of being a feminist. I guess wanting to be included in a conversation is now called feminism. I would suspect most of the world would be considered a feminist, if we rely on Andreis definition.

Elizabeth believes his alpha male trait is in overdrive now that he is back in his home country. The night takes a surprising twist as it progresses. His friends are stunned that Andrei isnt working outside of the home. He quickly explains his situation as the norm in America. Huh? Sorry sir, that isnt the norm for the type of man you pretend to be on a daily basis.

Not surprisingly, Karine is disappointed in Paul Staehle and his efforts, since they have been in America. She even refuses to attend dinner with him and her mother in- law. When Paul arrives solo, his mother says I wouldnt have come if I knew Karine wasnt coming. LMAO! This woman really doesnt want to be bothered with her own son. Who can blame her, Paul would drive anyone insane. After being free from him the past couple of years, why would she turn back now? He is a user and extremely disrespectful to his mother. Despite Pauls attempts to use his baby as the reason he needs help, she still refuses him. She reminds him that as a grown man he should make better decisions and plan ahead.

The next stop on Pauls tour of America is the grocery store. As exciting as that sounds, it doesnt go well. Karine is agitated the entire time they are in the store. When Paul attempts to buy her an industrial sized box of pads on camera she almost walks out. Their next stop is house hunting. The first trailer looks like it should be condemned. I cant believe that an agent would even take a woman holding a baby into that hell hole. When they leave, Karine is so upset she screams you are not a good husband. For some reason, she believed when they came to America they would live in a nice house, despite their finances. In Pauls mind, his wife should be accustomed to meager dwellings. Karine is not having it!

TELL US- WHAT DO YOU THINK OF COLT BOOKING ONE ROOM FOR HIMSELF, DEBBIE AND JESS TO SHARE? DOES KARINE HAVE A RIGHT TO BE UPSET WITH PAUL? DO YOU THINKANDREI WAS INSULTING ELIZABETH? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT ASUELUS BEHAVIOR? ARE TANIA AND SYNGIN HEADED FOR DIVORCE?

How Has Hollywood Permeated the Online Casino Industry? – LA Progressive

Hollywood is the epicenter of the worlds cinema, and it has seemingly unlimited power and influence over the industry as a whole. The Los Angeles-based movie hub has reached this mammoth stature through cross-franchise expansions over the years, and has made sure that its films have reached as many people as possible. In recent times, Hollywood has permeated the online casino industry on a huge scale. It identified this booming sector as a great place for reaching diverse demographics, and has found success in doing so.

Slot machines have been one of the most varied types of casino game for decades, but since they moved online the amount of choice when it comes to themes is astounding. Because there is so much selection, some developers have found that offering familiarity and recognizable names is a good way to attract players.

This has led slot game developers and Hollywood film studios to collaborate on numerous occasions in order to create cross-platform synergy and boost franchises. The list of blockbuster movies which have made it onto the reels is endless, and it includes high profile titles like Jurassic Park, Tomb Raider, The Incredible Hulk, and The Dark Knight.

It is clear that Hollywood branding on slots helps to boost the financial returns of a movie. Jurassic World is a prime example of this. Microgamings Jurassic Park and Jurassic World slots have been some of the most popular offerings at online casinos over the last ten years, with the former winning Digital Product of the Year at the Global Gaming Awards in 2015. With these games reaching so many people in the thriving online casino sector, it arguably attracted more viewers to the 2015 film from Colin Trevorrow which raked in $1.6 billion at the box office.

After playing a significant role in the rise of online slots, it appears as though Hollywood would also like to get its brands onto other games found at online casinos. Roulette is a game which hasnt changed much since it was invented more than two centuries ago. But the newer generations of online casino player are seeking more variance when it comes to the games. This has led to some innovations in roulette for Hollywood to capitalize on.

Just like with slots, roulette games now have themes. When gamblers log on to online casinos to play online roulette, they are faced with numerous options that go beyond the traditional wheel. One of the striking titles is Superman roulette, which borrows the theme from the long-lasting and hugely successful Hollywood film franchise. It would be reasonable to expect this game to lead to others, with rival superheroes likely to be prominent.

What Are the Most Popular Casino Games in Canada? – The Game Haus

Games of chance have been around for centuries, catering to the needs of each and every gambling enthusiast. The gambling industry, therefore, has kept up with the times, ceaselessly evolving in order to satisfy the needs of its avid aficionados. Today, we have the opportunity to try our luck in brick and mortar casino establishments as well as in online versions of our favorite games. Although Canadian provinces have slight differences in gambling laws, the country has managed a balanced approach that does not gravitate towards the notion of acquiring easy money. In most cases the laws are flexible and the publics welfare is a priority. That being said, lets take a glance at some of the top-listed casino games that remain ever-popular among dedicated players.

Slots are among the most played casino games all over the world. In Canada, they were mostly run by charities, but can now be found in all casinos across the country. Their greatest appeal lies in the simplicity of the design and functionality, whether they are played online or not. Although they boast great variety, the main idea is simple the players only need to choose the amount of their bet and for how many possible paylines theyd like to duplicate their wager. The addictive graphics and the easy-going gameplay continues to entice players, keeping these games at the top.

An elegant table game, particularly popular with very ambitious players and one of the most classic James Bond casino games. For those who want to bet big, Baccarat is one of the most attractive card games due to its many advantages, most prominent of which is the simple object of the game. All you need to do is bet on the odds of the banker or the player who is holding the hand closest to nine, and you could win a significant amount of cash. Of course, the winning sum will depend on the size of your wager but, theres surely great potential many find irresistible, whether online or at a real casino table. There are many different versions, but three of them remain in the lead Baccarat Banque, Chemin de Far and Punto Banco.

Websites such asplaycasinos.caare always there to help you choose a game of your preference, but chances are pokers the one that will lure you in sooner or later. Its worldwide popularity is well-deserved since it requires strategy as well as luck in order to win. The gameplay is easy to understand players compete against each other and place their bets according to the hand theyre holding. Since the rules of poker do not allow you to see your opponents cards, very often players turn to bluffing in the hope their rivals will fold and drop out, which makes poker an intense game brimming with excitement. High rollers prefer this game for a reason since poker jackpots tend to be massive.

This is one of the most prominent casino games in Canada. It was first played in France over 300 years ago and made its way across the globe due to its elegance and sophistication. Although in French Roulette means little wheel, the payouts in this game are anything but. It belongs to the category of casino table games, with players placing their wagers in the hope the ball will land on their chosen number on the spinning wheel. There are two different versions of the game French roulette and American roulette which differ in the numbers on the wheel. American Roulette has 38 numbers and two zeros while the French version has 37 numbers.

In Bingo, each player gets a pre-printed cardwith a selection of numbers. A designated caller randomly selects a number from a pool and calls it out. The object of the game is to get all the required numbers in a pattern or a group and shout out Bingo!. Although many still enjoy socializing with their fellow players at Bingo events, the online versions of the game are rapidly gaining popularity. The buy-ins are small and so are the jackpots, but still many find the appeal in this low-risk, but thrilling game.

No matter which game you choose, and whether it is online or not, you are definitely in for a fun time and a major surge of adrenaline. Remember to set yourself limits, to practice moderation during your gameplay, and to keep your budget in check. This will ensure that casino games will remain an entertaining hobby you can always come back to.

Do Not Play Russian Roulette With the Lives of Our Children and Teachers – Common Dreams

Are you responsible for gambling with another persons life?

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court says yes.

Back in 1947, James Malone, 17, and William Long, 13,played a version of Russian Roulette during a sleepover.

Malone stole a revolver from his uncle and Long sneaked into his fathers room and got a bullet.

They put the cartridge in a chamber, spun the cylinder and then took turns pointing the gun at each other and pulling the trigger. On the third try, Malone put the gun to Longs head, pulled the trigger and the gun fired, killing Long.

Malone was convicted of second degree murder even though he said he hadnt intended to kill his friend.

The case,Commonwealth v. Malone, eventually went to the state Supreme Court where justices upheld the conviction.

They ruled:

When an individual commits an act of gross recklessness without regard to the probability that death to another is likely to result, that individual exhibits the state of mind required to uphold a conviction of manslaughter even if the individual did not intend for death to ensue.

Lawmakers and school administrators better pay heed to this and similar nationwide decisions.

Reopening schools to in-person classes during the COVID-19 pandemic istantamount to Russian Roulette with the lives of students, teachers and families.

Every day with this virus in the physical classroom is like spinning the cylinder and pulling the trigger.

You might survive, but every time you enter the building your chances of getting sick increase untilthe law of averages will come for someone perhaps many someones.

The safest course is to continue with distance learning in the fall despite the numerous academic problems with that method of instruction.

With Coronavirus cases rising byabout 50,000 a day in the United States, there issimply too much virus out thereto ensure anyones safety in the physical classroom.

Students inevitably will get sick and spread the disease to adults teachers and their own families.

We cant take such chances with peoples lives.

But dont just take my word for it.

Decisions makers are taking the possibility seriously enough to try to change the laws to reduce their liability.

They want to ensure they wont end up in court if they reopen schools and people get sick.

In May,Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called for schools to be legally protected from lawsuitsthat could arise due to resuming classes.

Along with fellow Republican Senator John Cornyn, McConnell proposed new liability laws protecting schools and businesses from Coronavirus-related lawsuits.

McConnell told reporters:

Can you image the nightmare that could unfold this fall when K-12 kids are still at home, when colleges and universities are still not open? That is a scenario that would only be further aggravated in the absence of some kind of liability protection that reassures school administrators that they can actually open up again Without it, frankly thats just not going to happen as soon as it should have.

The Kentucky Senator went on Fox News in late April saying that such legal protections would be necessary for Republicans to even consider any new Coronavirus relief bills.

And its not just lawmakers. In May, 14 college presidents from around the country teleconferenced with Vice President Mike Pence and U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos asking for the same thing.

According to those who were either on the call or were knowledgeable about the conversation, the college presidents said they needed to know their institutions would not get sued if people got sick which they thought was almost a certainty.

One way the federal government can help is to have some kind of liability protection, said University of Texas at El Paso president Heather Wilson, who was on the call. Wilson is a former Republican congresswoman from New Mexico.

Big business is also calling for liability protection. Groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have been asking to be freed during the pandemic from being held liable if workers, customers or others get sick on their property. Notably, a lawyer for Texas Christian University told senators such a situation is foreseeable, perhaps inevitable.

All of which begsthe question of what we mean by safety.

Is it our responsibility to make sure customers, workers, students and teachers are safe from the virus? Or is it our responsibility to make sure businesses and schools arent sued for taking chances with our lives?

There are things we can do to increase safety.

We should not reopen schools until the county where it is located reports zero new Coronavirus cases for two weeks. That would be taking safety seriously.

And it shouldnt be too much to ask because other countries have been able to do such things.

Other nations have been able to test for the virusand identify those who have the disease. They have been able to trace these peoples contacts and isolate them from the rest of the population.

But that requires a vast expansion of our testing ability through coordinated federal action.

The problem is our lawmakers dont care enough to do this.

Nor are they willing to provide us with federal relief checks, personal protective equipment (PPE), protection from evictions, and universal healthcare so that were can weather the storm.

Itsmuch easier to protect business from consumers and protect schools from the kids, teachers and families who make up the community.

Some will say the danger is overblown.

Children, in particular, are less susceptible to COVID-19 than older people.

And while its true that young people have shown fewer symptoms andinclude the lowest numbers of deaths, this virus has been around barely more than a year. We simply dont know much about it and its long term effects.

A recentstudy from the journal the Lancetfound that teenagers are just as susceptible to the disease as older people.

Researchers found few children 5-9 (the youngest included in the study) who had contracted the disease but those ages 10-19 were as likely to contract it as people ages 20-49 and more likely than adults older than that.

Soeven if young people remain mostly asymptomatic, it is entirely possible they can spread the disease to older people who have a more difficult time fighting it off.

Theonly consensus about children and COVID-19 is that we dont know enough about how it affects young people.

We certainly dont want to end up like countries that have opened schools too quickly with too high infection rates.

In May, two weeksafter Israel fully reopened schools, there was a COVID-19 outbreak. There were at least 130 cases at a single school. Students and staff were infected at dozens of schools causing a rash of renewed closings.

We should not be taking chances with schools.

Any action comes with some level of risk, butwe should err on the side of caution.

Our government needs to serve us.

Representatives who do not serve our interests need to be sent packing.

And anyone who gambles with our lives needs to be held liable.

Anyone who demands we place our heads against the barrel of a loaded gun as a prerequisite to jump start the economy, needs to be held responsible for that decision.

Thechances of dying during the first round of a game of Russian Rouletteusing a standard six-shot revolver is 1/6. With each pull, the chances increase 1/5, 1/4, etc.

The average number of consecutive pulls before the gun fires is 3.5.

We know more about that than the Coronavirus.

In effect, we dont know how many chambers are loaded, but we know there are bullets in the gun.

There are too many hidden factors to be able to say for sure what our chances are exactly. And in the presence of such ignorance, we should assume the worst.

Thats exactly what decision makers are doing by trying to protect themselves from responsibility.

We should take that as seriously as a loaded gun put to our temples.

Are you responsible for gambling with another persons life?

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court says yes.

Back in 1947, James Malone, 17, and William Long, 13, played a version of Russian Roulette during a sleepover.

The case, Commonwealth v.

The Complete Guide to Scout’s tips and advice for FPL Gameweek 36+ – Fantasy Football Scout

Welcome to the Fantasy Football Scout Guide to Gameweek 36+. Todays deadline is at 19:15 BST still time to consider those all important transfer and captaincy decisions.

Following a Gameweek in which many differential options scored well, managers are on the lookout for the next opportunity to help them climb the ranks.

The two outstanding bets appear to be a flutter on the Pep Roulette or a fired-up Chelsea against an already-relegated Norwich City.

A total of six players from these teams feature in the Scout Picks.

Since the restart, Manchester City have been creating by far the best chances of any Premier League side. Their expected goals total of 19.21 is way ahead of the second-best team for this statistic, Chelsea, on 12.73.

But we dont need stats to tell us City are a good bet the problem is picking the right player.

Joe stunned Az and Andy on the Scoutcast this week when the typically safe and unadventurous manager revealed he is looking to sign and captain David Silva.

And Joe is not alone in coveting El Mago.

Gran Canarias most successful footballing export is picked out by Pro Pundit Tom Freeman in his regular differentials piece.

After being omitted from the starting line-up against Brighton, he is fancied to start against a Bournemouth side missing influential centre-back Nathan Ak.

Since the restart, and bearing in mind hes been limited to just four starts, Silva has had more opposition half touches than any other teammate. He also sits top for successful passes in the final third, and second for chances created and big chances created.

At under five per cent ownership, the Spanish playmaker looks to be this weeks standout differential.

However, in Davids Captain Sensible article, its the Brazilian Jesus who tops a number of key stats.

Over his last four matches, Azs favourite player has taken 16 shots inside the box, including six big chances.

And while opponents Bournemouth have been better at the back in recent games than one might expect, that really shouldnt put us off:

The four teams who have most recently faced Manchester City are all in the bottom half for this statistic, especially Brighton and Newcastle, whose xGC scores took a battering during a battle with Guardiolas relentless attackers.

Of course the big question is who will start for City?

As mentioned, David Silva is widely expected to be named in the starting XI but nothing is certain with Seor Guardiola.

To help us, site moderator Legoman has put together a useful colour-coded matrix:

Detailing the minutes played by each key asset, it gives us a clue about what we might expect against Bournemouth.

Its also worth keeping in mind that following their outing against the Cherries on Wednesday, Peps troops have just two days rest before their important cup semi-final against Arsenal. A match in which the rotating Catalan is sure to name his strongest line-up.

Frank Lampard was fuming after his sides defeat at Sheffield United.

They were better than us physically, in the mind and with the ball, so you lose the game. They were stronger than us. We dont have crowds at the minute so you hear every voice and all I could hear was Sheffield United voices, so they were stronger in that sense.

Fair to say we can expect a reaction against Norwich City.

And following Daniel Farkes sides capitulation at the hands of West Ham and a delighted Michail Antonio in particular the Blues are expected to profit.

Willian and Christian Pulisic would appear to offer the best routes into the Chelsea attack. David notes:

If Willian is going to play, he seems the most complete Chelsea asset when weighed up across all the categories. He is the most creative, competes reasonably with Pulisic and the two forwards for shots in the box but gets bigger chances and is more accurate than the American.

Managers could benefit from early team news ahead of todays deadline, and that could bring Olivier Giroud or Tammy Abraham into the equation.

The pair have shared minutes since the restart. But a place in the first XI for either would surely mark them out as an enticing differential, albeit not one that would be a reliable starter for the remainder of the season.

And lets not forget West Ham and Antonio. The out-of-position midfielder is thriving in the centre-forwards role, and his promising underlying stats ahead of the Canaries clash persuaded well-known Scoutcasters to invest.

Greyhead was his usual puntastic-self in the latest installment of The Great and the Good. The chronicler of the FPL Rat Pack reported on the positive rank swings for Az and Andy, who both benefited from Antonios incredible haul. The Hammers talisman remains a differential at just 3.4 per cent ownership.

Southampton scored the last goal of Gameweek 35+ to level the scores at Old Trafford. The Saints started strongly with Stuart Armstrong scoring the opening goal of the evening.

But while the Scot has been putting in some excellent performances of late producing attacking returns in four of his last six matches the focus for many is on Danny Ings.

Still in the race for the Golden Boot four goals behind Jamie Vardy he has the backing of his manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. Speaking after the win over Watford in Gameweek 32+, the Saints boss enthused:

I think anything is possible [with regards to the race for the Golden Boot]. We will play with him the last six games and then he will have six chances to score. If he gets the chance you can see how fantastic his finishing is at the moment. He seems fitter than ever. He was very hard working in the shutdown and that gives him now fantastic physical options.

However, the demands of the fixture schedule is giving FPL managers pause for thought.

Pro Pundit Zophar updated us on the varying rest periods for Premier League teams in this latest offering. Southamptons harsh schedule could make the six-time top 5,000 boss reconsider his planned move:

I was originally thinking of doing the Jamie Vardy to Ings move but the Saints congested schedule has me a bit worried. Ings has been a machine of late but his fitness issues in the past are well documented and will they possibly flare up again with matches so close? The Saints pressing style could suffer too with low recovery periods. Something to ponder.

Selling Jamie Vardy is a dilemma for many in the community.

Maximus Bonimus Pointimus sought opinion in a hot topic Leicesters fixtures and a number of first-team absentees could potentially see the Golden Boot leader shown the door.

Compared to Peps squad spinning, Ole Gunnar Solskjr is wonderfully reliable. The Norwegian named an unchanged side for the fifth game running against Southampton.

Although selecting the right three to own still requires some thought, with a number of options vying for a place in our squads. Pro Pundit Sam invited opinion on the ideal trio in the comments section.

Meanwhile, TheFantasyFreK shared his insights in his regular Gameweek review. Top of the agenda was just how unlucky Mohamed Salah-owners had been:

Salah recorded as many big chances as Sterling (two each) and in fact, fared better for shots in the box (four vs three) and minutes per expected goal involvement (66 vs 74).

With impressive underlying stats the Egyptian tallied eight shots in his previous outing against Brighton Salah remains a contender for the captaincy.

Dont forget to check out the latest Team News and Predicted Line-ups brought to us by Neale and, as usual, G-Whizz has been kind enough to supply the best odds of a clean sheet.

Lastly, a heads up that the penultimate FPL deadline of the season is this coming Saturday at 16:30 BST.

A full round-up of community competitions will follow this article.
