Stony Brook heads to 1st ever College World Series

STONY BROOK -- For a little while, at least, upstart Stony Brook is grabbing the kind of attention usually reserved for Derek Jeter, David Wright and the big league stars in New York.

"Our motto is: 'Shock the world and win the last game of the season,'" said center fielder Travis Jankowski, the Seawolves' leading hitter at .422 and the 44th overall selection in last week's Major League Baseball amateur draft. "So as long as we do that, we should be all right from here on out."

"They gained an awful lot of respect not only down here but nationwide," Mainieri continued. "That team can play with anybody."

The Seawolves are the first team from New York State to reach the College World Series since 1980 and the first team from the Northeast since Maine in 1986.

Stony Brook demonstrated that with relentless hitting and stifling pitching against LSU. Starter Frankie Vanderka bounced back from a Game 1 loss in a relief role and threw a complete-game three-hitter in the series clincher. Travis Jankowski had four hits and scored two runs, while Maxx Tissenbaum drove in three runs with a pair of doubles.

When Vanderka's fifth strikeout ended the game, and he was buried under a celebratory dog pile moments afterward, it was a surreal sight for Stony Brook coach Matt Senk, who recalled "doing backflips" when he was first hired at then-Division III Stony Brook in 1991. Some 22 seasons later, he's headed for college baseball's promised land on the heels of stopping the mighty Tigers from booking their 16th appearance in Omaha.

"I'm a little overwhelmed, quite frankly, because I think I do know the magnitude of this," Senk said, describing how former LSU coach Skip Bertman, winner of five national titles, congratulated him after the game. "To make it to Omaha (is) every college baseball team's dream, every college baseball coach's dream and it's come to fruition. And to do it against LSU, Alex Box Stadium ... to shake coach Bertman's hand on the way in. Oh my God. Having that man congratulate me for going to the College World Series, it's just unbelievable."

Stony Brook, which has won 28 of 30 and will face UCLA in the opening game in Omaha, became only the second team to open the tournament as a No. 4 seed in the regional round and reach the College World Series. The first was Fresno State in 2008 which went on to win the national title.

This Stony Brook squad, which beat host Miami in winning the Coral Gables Regional, just might be good enough to repeat that feat. Playing before crowds of 10,000-plus wearing LSU purple-and-gold, the Seawolves didn't merely survive so much as thrive, outhitting LSU 35-15 in the series.

The only time the Seawolves (52-13) trailed in the three games was when Mason Katz hit a walk-off single to end a thrilling Game 1 in the bottom of the 12th, and outhit LSU 15-3 in the series finale.

Rich Hill Experiences Discomfort With Surgically Repaired Left Elbow, Heads to the 15-Day Disabled List

BOSTON -- Rich Hill has an appointment scheduled with Dr. James Andrews on Monday.

That rendezvous alone isn't a positive sign. But after being sidelined for a year with Tommy John surgery -- for his elbow -- the Red Sox reliever sensed tightness once again in his left elbow.

As a result of the discomfort, Hill will visit Andrews, the same surgeon who performed the procedure. It prompted the Red Sox to place Hill on the 15-day disabled list and recall Mark Melancon from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Hill first experienced the tightness three weeks ago, according to Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.

"It bothered him a little, and then it went away and there was no problem," Valentine said. "I heard of it one of those days where I didnt use him for three days or so, and then he said he was fine, and then I think it was five days since he was in a game the other day."

That appearance was Friday, during the series opener against the Nationals. In the outing, Hill surrendering two hits but pitched a scoreless inning. He also racked up his 11th strikeout of the season.

Although Valentine didn't notice anything different with Hill, the skipper said the late breaking movement on the southpaw's curveball was different. Hill unleashed four curveballs in a sequence against Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper.

When approached by reporters at his locker, Hill declined comment until after his meeting with Andrews.

"I don't have any answers right now," Hill said.

His absence leaves two lefties in the bullpen -- Franklin Morales and Andrew Miller. Prior to the revelation of Hill's injury, Valentine expressed his intention to stretch out Morales into long relief and possibly an occasional spot start.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bonnaroo 2012: Veteran Rockers Give It Their All

AP Photo/Manu Fernandez

An already-energized crowd was made even more so by the strange pre-show performance of Carrie the Salsa Dancing Dog. Only at Bonnaroo could such a thing lead directly into latest hit "Monarchy of Roses." Marking a long-overdue notch on the festival's headliner ledger, the Chili Peppers played with a vigor levels above their usual arena tour stop.

Flea leapt around and played his bass like a man possessed, as transitions into classics like "Can't Stop" received rhythmically conscious extended intros. The core four of the band brought new dimensions with a fuller sound broadcasted through the inclusion of keyboard player and an additional percussionist.

"Come on, Tennessee, yeah! Be kind and gentle to your neighbor," implored a smiling Flea introducing drummer Chad Smith, who soloed straight into "Dani California." Anthony Kiedis' shirt made it through exactly two songs.

The latest entry into the Chili Pepper discography, I'm With You, seemed to produce the premium cohesiveness possible within the instrumental unit, which made sense, seeing as it's the first album featuring new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. Tracks like "Look Around" and "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" thundered with a fresh RHCP brand funk.

"Last night I was standing out there, and Radiohead was so fucking beautiful," remarked Flea, once again pointing out to the capacity-filled main stage field before launching into "Throw Away Your Television."

A field of lighters ignited the cool southern night as Kiedis cooed the opening lines of the building "Under The Bridge," which was immediately followed by their mid-set rendition of rollicking jumper "Higher Ground".

After closing out the primary set with a mosh-baiting "By The Way," Flea came out walking on his hands for the encore, eventually flipping his stance and leading the band into a jam resulting in "Suck My Kiss." Two songs later, the Chili Peppers said goodbye to the Bonnaroo masses with live staple "Give It Away," walking off stage with cheers and fireworks popping out from all directions.

It's not every band that has the pull and status to hold down Bonnaroo's coveted Saturday night headlining slot. And although Red Hot Chili Peppers as a group are older than the festival itself, there's still only so many new ventures for a veteran act like themselves to hold court over. As a result, the give-it-all effort put forth by the Chili Peppers will go down in Bonnaroo lore as another worthy addition to fest's, and the band's, storied lineage.

Love heads up 3-way tie after 3 rounds in Memphis

By TERESA M. WALKER AP Sports Writer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Davis Love III thinks he's playing as well as he did earlier this year before pulling a rib muscle at Bay Hill. Now the U.S. Ryder Cup captain is eager to see just how much he might do.

Love III shot his third straight 2-under 68 on Saturday to join Nick O'Hern and John Merrick atop the leaderboard at the windy St. Jude Classic. Asked what his first PGA Tour win since 2008 would mean, the 48-year-old Love had a quick answer.

"Be a lot of Ryder Cup points," Love said.

With a win, Love is projected to jump from 63 into the top 30 in the Ryder Cup standings. Love started off this year excited about how he was playing before injuries slowed him down. He wound up not playing at all for about six weeks after withdrawing on the final day at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in late March before returning at The Players Championship.

Love tied for 16th at the Memorial last week, then played 36 holes in Columbus, Ohio, to qualify for his 23rd U.S. Open. He committed late to play in Memphis, making sure he was healthy enough to use this event as a final tuneup.

Love had three birdies and only one bogey Saturday to match O'Hern and Merrick at 6- under 204, the highest 54-hole lead on tour this year. O'Hern had a 67, and Merrick shot 69. The man with 20 career PGA wins said obviously there's a lot of pressure and he wants to win. He has only two wins since winning four times in 2003.

"Is it a big huge deal in my career that I have to win this week? No. But when you get up there at the top ... the old feeling kicks in. You concentrate better, you focus better and my routines of the day were coming down those last four, five holes. And I missed a couple putts, but I felt like I was right in like old times ... focused and playing and enjoying it," Love said.

"So it would mean a lot to win for sure. Anytime you win out here is important. But it's fun to be in it."

Rory McIlroy, who will try to defend his U.S. Open title next week at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, had a one-stroke lead when he teed off. He shot a 2-over 72 in a round that featured six bogeys and four birdies to drop in a tie at 5 under.

Super Regionals: Arizona sweeps, heads to CWS

Pat Valaika tripled in the fourth inning to help spark UCLA's attack.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Konner Wade tossed a six-hitter and Arizona earned its first trip to the College World Series since 2004 by beating St. John's 7-4 on Saturday to complete a two-game sweep.

A three-time national champion, Arizona (43-17) earned a share of the Pac-12 championship for the first time since 1993 and is headed back to Omaha for the 16th time after finishing off the Red Storm.

The Wildcats rallied from five runs down to win the first game of the super regional on Friday and jumped on St. John's (40-24) early in Game 2, scoring three runs in the first inning off Sean Hagan (8-3).

Wade (9-3) allowed four runs, and Bobby Brown had two RBIs to set off raucous celebration at Hi Corbett Field.

Arizona had a dramatic win in the series opener Friday, fighting back from the big deficit and down a run in the 10th inning to win 7-6 on Trent Gilbert's game-ending RBI single.

The Wildcats got out to the early lead this time, thanks to a mistake by Danny Bethea.

With two outs in the first inning, the St. John's catcher was called for interference when his glove got in the way of Robert Refsnyder's swing on a grounder up the middle. Instead of going off with the third out, St. John's had to stay out and watch Seth Mejias-Brean, Brown and Joseph Maggi each hit run-scoring singles that put Arizona up 3-0 before the Red Storm came to bat for the first time.

Mejia added a run-scoring single in the second inning after Joey Rickard worked a walk for the second straight at-bat, giving Wade a nice early cushion.

Dow Heads Lower, Putting Late-Week Rally at Risk

As evidenced by yesterday's late-session pullback, the bears are back in the building. Heading into the final session of the week, futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) are pointed modestly lower. It's setting up to be a difficult day for all major market indexes, with futures on the broader S&P 500 Index (SPX) and NASDAQ-100 Index (NDX) following their big-cap brethren into the red.

And now, on to the numbers...

Market Statistics

Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) saw 1,053,644 call contracts traded on Thursday, compared to 674,855 put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call ratio arrived at 0.64, while the 21-day moving average was 0.76.

From the Trading Floor

On the technical front, Schaeffer's Equities Analyst Bryan Sapp has his eye retrained on "the 1,333 mark on the SPX. This remains the level to get above for the bulls. On the lower end, 1,265 is the bottom of the range."

"Schaeffer's Senior Quantitative Analyst Rocky White does an overview of sentiment polls, and we combine them all to form an index," Sapp continued. "One thing that struck me is there is rampant optimism in the dollar and in bonds, pessimism in oil -- which is to be expected since oil is priced in dollars -- and very little optimism toward stocks. For contrarian purposes, if the dollar fades, then the crowd will exit and seemingly drive stocks higher. As of late, indexes have been moving in lockstep with the euro, so a dollar fade/euro rally should spark an equity rally."

Currencies and Commodities

In equities news, Molina Healthcare, Inc. (MOH - 17.77) is set to pop after Ohio reinstituted the health insurer as a Medicaid provider for the state's low-income population. Ahead of last night's announcement, 82% of analysts had slapped the stock with a "hold" or "sell" suggestion. MOH is up 23.8%% ahead of the bell.

In earnings news, Quiksilver, Inc. (ZQK - 2.44) said its second-quarter loss narrowed to $5.1 million, or 3 cents per share. Excluding items, ZQK recorded a per-share loss of 2 cents, while revenue inched up 3% to $492.2 million. The results fell short of Wall Street's forecast for earnings of 1 cent per share on $496 million in sales. Options players were stockpiling calls ahead of earnings, with the equity's 20-day International Securities Exchange (ISE), Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX) call/put volume ratio docked at a staggering 34.53.

Practice Two – Hamilton heads Ferrari duo

Lewis Hamilton maintained the upper hand after Fridays second practice session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Montreals Ile Notre Dame. Having lapped in 1m 15.564s in the morning to beat Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel by 0.118s, he trimmed that to 1m 15.259s to beat Ferraris Fernando Alonso by 0.054s in the afternoon.

Right behind the Spaniard, who lapped in 1m 15.313s, Felipe Massa maintained his upswing from Monaco with 1m 15.410s for third fastest time. All three used the super-soft Pirellis, whereas Vettel set his fourth best 1m 15.531s on the soft compound, boding well for qualifying tomorrow. The world champion did the most laps of the session, with 44 - one more that Hamilton.

Fifth fastest time for Paul di Resta underpinned Force Indias hopes of a strong race, as the Scot lapped in 1m 15.544s to hold off Saubers Kamui Kobayashi on 1m 15.651s. Michael Schumacher was hot on his heels as Mercedes lead runner, with 1m 15.697s and then came Di Restas team mate Nico Hulkenberg on 1m 15.799s.

Jenson Button, like Di Resta, put in one of the performances of the session by taking ninth place with 1m 15.812s, despite sitting out most of the morning and 70 minutes of the afternoon as McLaren fixed the oil leak on his car. This took much longer than anticipated after an oil leak on to the clutch was fixed, only for another leak to manifest itself which required further dismantling.

The top 10 was rounded off by Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes with 1m 15.878s, just ahead of Sergio Perez who took his Sauber round 1m 15.898s. Mark Webber was 12th in the second Red Bull on 1m 15.907s, with Pastor Maldonado breathing down his neck in the lead Williams with 1m 15.987s.

It was a quiet day for Lotus, with Romain Grosjean 14th on 1m 16.360s and Kimi Raikkonen 15th on 1m 16.562s, but they are happy with their race pace.

Heikki Kovalainen made up for his accident this morning with 1m 16.981s, which left his Caterham 16th.

This time it was Bruno Sennas turn to bring out the red flags after he backed his Williams into the so-called Champions Wall - where the likes of Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel have previously come to grief - on the exit to the final corner. Like Kovalainen in the morning, only the Brazilians pride was hurt, but the car was a mess that took marshals 13 minutes to clear up. His 1m 17.022s left him 17th, just ahead of Vitaly Petrov who took the second Caterham round in 1m 17.075s.

Behind them, Jean-Eric Vergne headed Toro Rosso team mate Daniel Ricciardo, with 1m 17.124s to 1m 17.716s, while Pedro de la Rosa again put the HRT ahead of the Marussias with 1m 18.908s for 21st. That left Timo Glock 22nd on 1m 19.084s with Narain Karthikeyan on 1m 19.378s and Charles Pic bringing up the rear on 1m 19.902s.

Besides Sennas incident there were plenty of off-road adventures; Glock and Alonso both spun, while Webber, Di Resta, De la Rosa, Alonso and Hamilton all strayed off the grey stuff without damage.

Heads Up: Bed and Breakfast, Goats and Pigs

I ALMOST wanted to sleep right there in the barn, snuggling with Judy and Patsy. The 700-pound pigs, sisters abandoned as piglets, were living out their days on the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary with a couple of hundred other creatures.

Get right in there and rub their bellies, Jenny Brown, the sanctuary director, suggested while leading about a dozen visitors on a tour this spring. They love it.

So there I was, down in the hay, hands on warm pink tummies. It was the closest Id ever been to a pig, and I wasnt eager to leave.

Luckily, I didnt have to go far: I would be staying right across the sheep meadow at the Guesthouse at Woodstock Sanctuary (woodstocksanctuary.org), a handsomely renovated pre-Civil War farmhouse with four airy bedrooms (from $140, plus a $30 membership fee), mountain views and, naturally, vegan breakfasts. We feel like the B&B is part of our advocacy, to allow people to wake up to happy, peaceful animals, Ms. Brown said.

Woodstock Sanctuary (actually in Willow, N.Y.) is not the only haven for rescued animals that gives a chance to visit, volunteer and stay overnight. While a handful of such accommodations are scattered throughout the country, upstate New York is home to a concentration of them: in addition to Woodstock, the nearby Catskill Animal Sanctuary has opened a B&B as well and, in Watkins Glen, Farm Sanctuary has operated one for years.

Woodstock Sanctuary opened the Guesthouse in April, part of a natural evolution for Ms. Brown, who chronicles her animal-rights career, which began with undercover filmmaking for the advocacy group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in a memoir, The Lucky Ones, to be published in August.

She and her husband, the film editor Doug Abel, opened the sanctuary in 2004 on their sprawling 23-acre property. Since then, the animal population has grown from a handful of chickens from a factory farm and a rooster found in a New York City schoolyard to pigs, turkeys, goats, sheep, geese, cows and ducks. On her tour, Ms. Brown shares anecdotes about the animals as well as disturbing facts about meat and dairy production.

Theres an agenda behind what we do here, she said. The B&B is part of that mission; its proceeds benefit Woodstock Sanctuary, potentially creating a much-needed source of revenue.

Visitors contribute more than just money. At least half of them volunteer for tasks ranging from shoveling dung from barns to helping with feedings. (During my stay, I dutifully brushed dreadlocks out of some friendly matted goats.) But others stay just to experience the rarity of farm animals whose purpose is neither to entertain in a petting zoo nor to be slaughtered for food.

Thats also the case just 20 miles east in Saugerties, at the 110-acre Catskill Animal Sanctuary, which opened its own inn, the Homestead, in May (casanctuary.org). That guesthouse, which dates back to the 1700s and has undergone an impressive gut renovation, offers three spacious rooms and one apartment (from $115 a night, plus a $40 membership fee), vegan breakfasts made with produce from an organic garden out back, and a cooking-demonstration space for the sanctuarys Compassionate Cuisine classes.

Hamilton heads Alonso in practice

Lewis Hamilton headed the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso in a closely-fought Friday practice at the Canadian GP.

Just 0.151 seconds covered the first three cars, with Ferrari's Felipe Massa in third place, while Sebastian Vettel was only 0.121secs further back.

Force India's Paul Di Resta was an impressive fifth fastest ahead of Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi.

McLaren's Jenson Button was ninth, managing only 18 minutes of the 90-minute session because of car problems.

[McLaren] is a top team challenging for the championship. Changing the gearbox should be 30 minutes. It was nearly four hours. It's not good enough

Button suffered an oil leak in the first practice session and it took the team nearly four hours to fix it.

When he did take to the track, he concentrated on race preparation as he sought to make up lost time. He complained over the team radio of a lack of front grip.

Button said: "It's been a tough day. I didn't get many laps in and we didn't get a good feel. But we have the data.

"Lewis was very quick so the car is good. We missed out because we had a gearbox problem and an oil leak problem.

"We didn't really get any set-up work; I was just out there to get a feel for the circuit. But tomorrow is another day and we are still confident we can have a good weekend."

Seal heads left stuck on sign

irishtimes.com - Last Updated: Thursday, June 7, 2012, 12:07 Related External The Irish Times takes no responsibility for the content or availability of other websites

Garda are investigating after the heads of two young seals were mounted and stuck to the sign of a seal sanctuary.

The discovery was made by staff at Dingle Wildlife and Seal Sanctuary in Co Kerry shortly before 9am.

Ally McMillan, animal manager, said the freshly cut seal heads had been nailed to a piece of wood, which was drilled to the sanctuarys sign.

Red paint, which resembled blood, was used to scrawl the words: RIP Cull.

It was sickening, said Ms McMillan.

We were very worried because we have two seals here at the moment that are about ready to be released, but it wasnt them.

Garda in the fishing port town have removed the heads and signs as part of their investigation.

It is feared they were targeted by people who want the sanctuary to close and who believe seals are destroying the local fishing waters.

Dingle Bay is also famous for its eco tours and cruises to spot seals, whales and the countrys most famous dolphin Fungie.

Head Color Linked With Personality in Social Bird Species

Gouldian finches with different head colors. (Stanley Gaw)

An endangered Australian bird species exhibits coloring that matches character, featuring fiery red heads and bold black-headed birds.

Gouldian finches, Erythrura gouldiae, have red, black, or occasionally yellow heads. They inhabit tropical savanna woodlands and feed on seeds.

A team of U.K. researchers tested for three types of personality in these birds: risk-taking, boldness, and aggression.

Different colors may mean each bird uses different behavioral tactics, said study co-author Claudia Mettke-Hofmann at the U.K.s Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in a press release.

For risk-taking, the scientists observed how quickly birds returned to feed after exposure to a hawk-shaped cardboard cutout.

To determine boldness, they looked at how birds dealt with an unfamiliar objectbundles of gray or brown strings hanging from a perch.

And to test how aggressive individuals are, they gave pairs of hungry birds limited access to food and noted which birds displayed threatening behavior or displaced others.

The team found that black-headed birds are bolder and take more risks, whereas red-headed ones tend to be more aggressive.

We think that head color is used as a signal of personality to other birds in the flock, so they know who to associate with, said study co-author Leah Williams, also at LJMU, in the release.

Cool heads prevail on bill

EDITORIAL

In the face of high emotion over the Constitution Court's order for parliament to temporarily put off the final deliberation of the charter amendment bill scheduled for tomorrow, it is indeed a welcome relief that common sense has prevailed.

Somsak Kiatsoranont, the House speaker and parliament president, has decided to put off the debate, as the court ordered, which should avert messy protests which were threatened if the parliament defied the court order and put the bill to its third reading.

This was not an easy decision for him to make.

On one hand if he chose to defy the court, he would risk breaching Section 216 of the constitution which says the Constitution Court's decisions are final and binding on the parliament, the cabinet, the courts and other state organisations.

On the other hand, if he chose to obey the court's order to delay deliberation of the charter amendment bill, then the final reading of the bill could be delayed beyond the 15-day period specified in Section 291 of the constitution.

Thanks to a cool head and common sense, Mr Somsak chose the second option which might go against the wishes of many Pheu Thai Party MPs and their supporters who are yearning for a showdown with the court, but is the more sensible choice nonetheless.

He said the joint sitting of the House and Senate would be held tomorrow as planned but they would not consider or vote on the charter amendment bill.

Mr Somsak's decision must be respected by all, especially the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship whose leader, Tida Tawornseth, has threatened to lead a crowd of between 30,000-40,000 red shirt followers to gather in front of parliament tomorrow.

The threatened "show of force" by the red shirts is unnecessary if their real aim is to submit to Senate Speaker Thiradej Meepian a petition seeking the impeachment of the seven charter court judges who issued the ruling asking the house to delay the debate.

Cutting Heads 2D-Style With Dust: An Elysian's Tail [Xbox 360]

To dub Dust: An Elysian's Tail a "furry" version of the Wii action beat-'em-up Muramasa: The Demon Blade may not do the XBLA title justice. While similar to the Wii title in terms of a unique heavily animated art style and battle-heavy concept, the game implements the nonlinear map-focused core from titles like Super Metroid or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It may seem like a melting pot of concepts, but Dust definitely feels like its own beast based on what we've played recently.

Players control a warrior named Dust on a 2D fantasy world; this sword-slinger can definitely take care of himself with his repertoire of moves. Pressing a combination of X and Y will make Dust perform quick sword slashes, air launchers, and even a series of stabs topped with a ground and air throw. After acquiring a power-up on the E3 2012 demo of the game early on, Dust gets the ability to perform a sword-spinning technique called Dust Storm.

Pressing and holding Y by itself will make Dust spin his sword in a wide radius to damage any foes within its path. While it looks great and is practical, you can't actually do it for too long. Dust will gradually turn red as he keeps doing the move; perform it for too long, and he'll knock himself out and get hurt.

Our hero also has a flying furry pixie who can shoot out pixie bullets. On its own, it isn't impressive, but if players combine it with the Dust Storm, they can unleash a conflagration of pixie bullets that can really do serious damage. We hope that more of these combinations will surprise us in the final game, because they look really spectacular and practical.

The demo itself let us explore a bit of the combat. We were faced with hordes of ghouls and mutants that fell prey to our main character's attacks and Dust Storm move. It wasn't all button-mashing the X and Y buttons though. There was a section where we had to use the Dust Storm and pixie bullet magic combo to hit a summoner that's impervious to conventional melee attacks.

At the tail end of the demo, we had to deal with a shield-bearing rock golem who we could only disarm and stun by doing a parry. Holding X while in accordance to an enemy's attack animation will push back its attack and leave it momentarily stunned. Even with the swarm of mini-dragons protecting the golem, it wasn't enough from our counterattack. Combat may seem like a huge focus for Dust, but there were bits where we had to use the sword wielder's slide to get past thorny barriers and navigate through chasms with updrafts while not getting hurt by spikes on the ceiling.

Complete with a gem upgrade system, and RPG-esque items-equipping and numbers-flying damage indicators, Dust seems to be doing a spectacular job being a map-based action-RPG platformer with eye-popping Disney-esque aesthetics. Gamers who dig that sort of mix will be glad to know that it will be out later this year under the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade release schedule.
