Should The Cincinnati Bengals Shelf A.J. Green for the Season? – The Stripe Hype

When A.J. Green injured his ankle in the first practice of training camp, the city of Cincinnati collectively held its breath. They did not want to see their star wide receiver face yet another injury riddled season. Fans let out a gasp of relief as further evaluation came in. Green would avoid the injured reserve list, meaning that a return before week 8 was possible and he could even return sooner.

Yet, as the Cincinnati Bengals head to London for Week 8, they do so knowing that they will once again be without their best player

On the surface, the team should be eager to get Green back on the playing field as soon as possible. Perhaps he could alleviate some of the offensive problems, lure a few extra fans into Paul Brown Stadium once they return to Cincinnati, and get first year head coach Zac Taylor his ever elusive first victory.

However, if the organization is thinking long term, the Bengals would be wise to keep Green on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

A lot of trade talk has been circulating with the deadline approaching and Green has been at the center of most of it. When asked about it, Taylor has repeatedly said Green wont be dealt, a sentiment likely shared by the front office.

Perhaps that is a wise decision with a new quarterback possibly on the horizon for the team. The former Georgia Bulldog would be a great mentor and safety valve for any signal caller trying to make his way into the league. Look at what Larry Fitzgerald has done for Kyler Murray in Arizona.

Green is in the last year of his deal, but both sides have given every indication that something will get done. Thus, if the above line of thinking is indeed one of the main reasons Mike Brown and the front office have elected to not trade Green, they need to make sure he is ready to go for training camp next year.

There is no reason to risk re-aggravating his injured ankle. Even if his ankle is fully healed, number 18 is currently 31 years old, but considering the time he has missed from injury and the extra recovery he would get from sitting the rest of the season out, he would, in theory, have the mileage of a receiver who is much younger.

Beyond that, the Bengals have been in some tightly contested games this season. If Green returns, there is a chance he flips some would-be losses into victories. Winning is always the goal, especially for a team that hasnt done so yet. Still, that could start to bump the Bengals back in the draft order and jeopardize their freedom to have their pick of top quarterbacks in next years draft, should they desire nabbing one,

Regardless of how badly fans want to see Green in action this season, there is one golden rule in the NFL. Finding a franchise quarterback is the most important piece to the puzzle of turning a franchise around. Nothing should interfere with Cincinnatis chances of getting the cornerstone quarterback they have desperately been searching for.

Its understandable why fans, the Bengals organization, and A.J. Green himself wouldnt want to mark this season as a total loss. Green has undoubtedly put in a tremendous amount of work to play this season. Mike Brown and company want to pull fans back into Paul Brown Stadium. Taylor wants his players to buy in to what he is trying to do. All of this is short sided though.

By waiting until next season, Green can hopefully remain a Bengal, return better than ever and hope to enjoy an injury free campaign. Moreover, the seven time Pro Bowler might get a chance to start fresh with a young quarterback. This version of A.J Green will put Taylor in a much better position to win. With that, the players will begin to better buy into his culture.

Heres the stock-market trade this hedge-fund star is most excited about right now – MarketWatch

Whos got a subscription?

Larry Hite is a long-time successful hedge-fund manager who doesnt believe he or really anyone can predict what the stock market (and other markets) will do next, or which seemingly successful companies will suddenly crash. (Just remember Enron, he says.)

Nor does he care much for Wall Streets standard buy-and-hold advice for small investors.

Rather, the 78-year-old has become fabulously wealthy using computer programs to detect and follow price trends and by following one simple rule: cutting his losses early. He founded Mint Investment Management Co., and the composite of funds achieved a compounded annual rate of return above 30% before fees during his 13-year run there. He now runs Hite Capital, a family wealth management firm.

I love making money, he says.

Hite expounded on his approach to investing in his new book, The Rule: How I Beat the Odds in the Markets and in Lifeand How You Can Too. He discussed his investment style, a current trade and some of his best and worst trades in an email interview with MarketWatch.

Question: Which of your current trades are you most excited about?

Answer: Im interested in stocks that went from selling software to subscription models. Companies with a recurring subscription model like Apple AAPL, -0.01%, Netflix NFLX, +3.64% or Amazon AMZN, +0.98% have not only a recurring revenue, but also a captive revenue.

Q.: Why did you make it? And when?

A.: Within the last few years because we are all electronically hooked up and companies like Apple are the amplifiers. Subscription models are a revolution in retail because the monthly or annual revenue generates a steady stream of cash.

Q.: What would make you get out of it?

A.: If the share price hits my stop-loss threshold of 2%. Im always measuring the risk and move quickly. If it drops, I get out and preserve my capital and look forward to the next opportunity.

Q.: How many trades do you have on at a time, on average? And, on average, how many others are you monitoring for an entry point?

A.: We are technical traders and the number of trades we have could have at any given time is driven by numbers: price, volume, averages, etc. As for monitoring for trades, that is driven by the methodology we trade on and the universe of stock and commodities that we have defined. Currently in our systems we are monitoring 600 stocks, and we could have a maximum of 30 in active trades.

Q.: On average, how long are you in a trade?

A.: I go trade by trade and really focus on the price and the trend. I watch the markets and ride the momentum. To quote David Ricardo who had three golden rules Never refuse an option when you can get it; cut short your losses and let your profits run on.

Q.: Whats been your best trade ever, and why did you make it? And you got out because..?

A.: In the mid 70s, the coffee markets prices were extremely low; there was a glut of supply and farmers were getting hurt. I researched 50 years of weather patterns and supply/demand data and saw that coffee consumption had been rising for a long time but prices hadnt yet responded. I bought calls on coffee options futures betting their value would rise and I rode the trend from 60 cents to $3.10. My initial $500,000 investment went up to $15 million. When the trend reversed and went down, I got out with $12 million.

Q.: Can you talk about a big trading mistake and what you learned from it?

A.: I was trading orange juice years ago and my computer showed me a price, but when I went to sell I wasnt able to get the same price. I got very angry and stubborn which was really stupid. After I lost enough money, I stopped being stubborn and learned a valuable lesson.

Q.: Youve made lots of money as a trend trader, and you write in your book that you make money because you do what the market tells you do. If only it were that easy! Why, in your opinion, is this not a more crowded strategy?

A.: A lot of people adhere to Wall Streets conventional advice, which tells investors to buy and hold with a passive approach to their portfolio. In this school of thought, you should do nothing when prices drop and not to pay attention to fluctuations in the market, but rather wait it out, because over time they believe the stock market always rises and you will always do well. Trend following is my bible and I feel its the safest thing you can do and the best way to make money.

Q.: What advice would you offer a small investor looking to emulate you? Whats your No. 1 rule?

A: I always have a stop-loss order in place which will automate a sell-off once an asset declines by an amount that you predetermined based on what you have decided you can lose.

Q.: Jim Cramer said earlier this month that you have to be out of your mind to have any conviction about this stock market right now. Do you agree? Is todays market that different than those of the past?

A.: No, its not. I respect the intelligence and devotion of economists and historians who have tried to understand global markets and develop a theory of human behavior and market dynamics. But when you start believing you have remarkable market-predicting powers, you get into trouble every time.

Q.: How has your own approach to trend following evolved over the years? Have you shifted over the year in what you trade, say commodities vs individual stocks vs the broader market? Are trades generally longer now? Or shorter?

A.: My approach hasnt changed significantly. Risk management and a diversified portfolio remain important factors in my overall strategy.

Q.: Do you take into account a companys fundamentals like earnings forecasts and how fast it is growing vs. its sector, valuation measures like P/E ratios, and other factors, or is that all irrelevant as a trend follower?

A.: I look at the price and the other factors are irrelevant. I continue doing whatever is making me the most money. I have done research and run thousands of simulations over the years and what I see convinces me that peoples emotions dont change. Its not intellect that moves the markets, its emotions.

Q.: Why do you prefer trend-following over other strategies, including buy and hold? Is it just better suited to your personality, or is there a deeper reason?

A.: I believe in adaptive systems. Trend following empowers you to see clearly that you can make the right choice for right now. It gives any motivated person a chance to invest in the markets with managed risk.

Q.: Now for some questions away from trading. Whats the best thing youve bought recently?

A.: I was very happy to give my daughter a really beautiful wedding recently and I am looking forward to more grandchildren. Family is everything.

Q.: And what do you hate spending money on?

A.: Jewelry. I would much rather invest the money.

Q.: If you werent trading the markets, what would you be doing?

A.: Studying history.

Q.: And whats your retirement plan?

A.: I will keep doing this 20 years after Im dead. I enjoy what I do and I love making money.

Arsenal: You all deserve everything Granit Xhaka did – Pain In The Arsenal

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Thats the Golden Rule. The one way to make the world a better place. Just dont be a jerk and treat people with respect. Arsenal fans do not obey this rule and for three years, neither did Granit Xhaka, though just at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Xhaka accepted brutal treatment, death threats, harassment of his wife and newborn and all he wanted was to do the club proud, to get the armband, to do it all for the badge.

Arsenal fans continued to berate the guy, never expecting there to be any repercussions. Never expecting that their grotesque actions would actually lead to them being disrespected as well.

Granit Xhaka snapped on Arsenal match-goers (Ive stopped calling them fans) after being jeered off the pitch upon being subbed. And people acted incensed, as if they didnt understand how he could possibly behave this way. Ian Wright was disappointingly much of the same.

You treat any human that way for three years and he is bound to, at some point, resist the unfair treatment that he is receiving. And before you say waaaaah, but it is fair, waaaaaah ask yourself how you would react in a similar situation, from your office job, if a horde sauntered in and criticized even the most minute of mistakes for three straight years.

Ill go ahead and answer that for youyou wouldnt make it three years. But would it change anything if you were held to a higher standard?

No.

It wouldnt.

You want to say that he should be held to a higher standard being a player. You say that wearing the armband, he has to conduct himself better. But its not that simple. This is the effect that a bunch of angry idiots can have on another human being.

I honestly cant believe that there are so many people who actively defend themselves and say that they cant believe what Xhaka did. For me, its the most real thing Ive seen since he arrived. This is a product of awful match-goers, thats it.

I was reading the comments on a couple of the post-match articles that Andy posted, and people were wondering if I was crying into my Xhaka pillow. Unfortunately, I dont have one, though I am open to gifts. That said, I think the problem is that no one sees Xhaka as a human being. They see him as an obstacle to their petty goals. Thats what this is.

Phoebe Waller-Bridges one-woman show leaves you wanting more so luckily theres two seasons of the TV series too.

Wednesday 30 October, 2019

If you havent heard of Fleabag by now, youve been deliberately avoiding the world. Phoebe Waller-Bridges uproarious one-woman show, first seen at Edinburgh Fringe in 2013, was turned into a phenomenally successful TV series of the same name by BBC and then distributed internationally through Amazon Prime. The show was nominated for 11 Emmy awards this year, winning four. National Theatre Live filmed the stage version at the Wyndham Theatre in London.

Fleabags character (who is never named) is a scabrous, hypersexualised version of her character Lulu in the Channel Four series Crashing (also conceived and written by Waller-Bridge), albeit much more provocative, damaged, and even more blackly hilarious. The stage version of the story differs in a few small details from the TV series but its pointless to compare them. The show opens and closes with an awkward loan interview (here a voiceover is included, as with a few other scenes), which goes wonderfully and inappropriately wrong, letting us into her characters vulnerability and her disregard for the rules.

Read: Fleabags feminist rethinking of tired screenwriting tools

Waller-Bridge is a big performer with a comic timing all of her own. Shes unafraid of extensiveness, of making her audience wait, and her facial expressions are divinely telling. It is a heightened performance with smaller and larger moments projected so that nothing is unmissable. Memorably drawn-out moments of excruciating hilarity include a conversation with her sister at a feminist talk and her impersonations of her hapless rodent boyfriend. She excels in tension-filled silences which are as revealing as her utterances, and she waits for you to get a joke before continuing. You see where she employs the golden rule of less is more, although it doesnt feel like it as the show is chock-a-block full of emotion and personality. Much of the fun of the TV series is her speaking directly to the camera and of course with her live show you get this most of the time.

On the surface, Fleabags story is about her wonky love life and difficult family relationships but really, its about her being a lonely human whos something of an arsehole on occasion. And about her despair and grief over the loss of her mother and of her best friend and caf co-owner, Boo, whose death came about inadvertently via the results of poor decisions in Fleabags own recent past.

The show runs for 65 minutes. It doesnt feel like a one-woman performance at all. Fleabag leaves you wanting more. Luckily, there is with the TV series. Fleabag is entrancing, uncomfortable, familiar and honest. Waller-Bridge is every bit as charismatic on stage as she is on screen. She cant do any wrong, it seems.

Are Louise Mitchell and Keanu Taylor leaving EastEnders? The pair announce tonight theyre moving to P – The Sun

EASTENDERS' Louise Mitchell and Keanu Taylor will leave their friends and family in Walford shock tonight as they announce their plans to move to Portugal.

Fans of the BBC One soap will seeSharon Mitchell pretend to be surprised bythe news when she returns to the Square from her holiday in the sunny country.

But when theyre alone, Keanu pleads with Sharon to stop her step-daughter from leaving, and to his surprise she tells him that they need to play along with Mel Owen.

Viewers know that the grieving mum whos played by departing star Tamzin Outhwaite - has been resorting to disturbingly desperate measures to get what she wants from Sharon.

So are Keanu and Louise really about to leave the Square for good?

Heres what we know

2

In a word, no. While it would probably be a good move for the pair to get away from Walford and bring up their baby somewhere with less drama, there are no plans for either character to leave as far as we know.

Neither the EastEnders bosses or Tilly Keeper and Danny Walters who play Louise and Keanu have made any announcements about leaving the BBC soap.

In fact, it looks like both characters will be around for the long haul, following the reveal that Keanu is the father of Sharons unborn baby, as well as her step-daughters.

Actress Tilly teased earlier this year that her pram-face character will turn evil when the news of Keanu and Sharons affair becomes public knowledge.

The actress - who has played Louise since 2016 in the BBC soap - has hinted the pregnant schoolgirl will embrace her Mitchell legacy as a villain to take revenge on Keanu and Sharon.

Trump is anti-abortion. That alone explains why Christians favor him – Los Angeles Times

To the editor: Letter writers bemused by evangelical Christians support for President Trump seem to be missing the entire picture.

Not one Democratic presidential candidate is antiabortion, and President Trump is. People who are against abortion will not vote for a president who does not support defending the life of a child in the womb.

Its that simple. This is what evangelical Christians believe, that all people have the God-given right to life.

How on Earth can these letter writers substantiate that their claim that Trump is un-Christian? In fact, evangelical Christians are backing the only candidate running for president who supports life.

Karen Strickland, Palm Springs

..

To the editor: No doubt the Los Angeles Times never runs short of letters pondering how religious conservatives can so reliably side with a president whose immorality dwarfs that of most (if not all) of his predecessors.

Whats with those devout souls? Shouldnt they prefer a president who abides by the biblical mandate to do unto others as they do unto him? Trumps manifold well-documented sins suggest that he disdains the Golden Rule.

Those true believers who so blindly back Trump need divine intervention. Lets pray for their deliverance from the wilderness of willful ignorance, lest they flounder in the fog of cognitive dissonance.

Perverting the Golden Rule | Opinion | dailyitem.com – Sunbury Daily Item

Although there is much to unite us, there are many ways to divide us. Republicans seem generally to see themselves as tough-minded realists who like to view progressives as snowflakes living in a fantasy world. Republicans are more cynical, progressives more optimistic; Republicans see personal responsibility as doing first for themselves and their families, while progressives are concerned with doing the least harm and acting for the general good.

Our loose-lipped commander-in-chief admittedly withheld aid authorized for the Ukraine conditioning its release on fulfillment of his request for a favor, in the form of an investigation to improve his chances of re-election. Even though the former, wronged Prosecutor General in Ukraine was doing nothing about corruption, and there was general, allied consensus that he needed to be replaced, Trump now smears Biden (throw mud and some will stick!). As president, he claims, he did nothing wrong, and that his now-infamous telephone call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was perfect, only about the corruption of others. However misguided, he seems to believe what he says and keeps on saying. How can that be?

Trump was born into privilege and inherited substantial wealth from his father. His father, in turn, was a landlord not immune from racial discrimination or bending the rules to maximize wealth. Against a very checkered history and multiple bankruptcies, Trump claims to be an astute business-man and deal-maker. Unfortunately, his wealth appears more to have accumulated from his being a conniving bully, not tethered to a historic sense of right and wrong, but rather to a value system based primarily on personal greed and satisfying personal desire. As a candidate, he invited the Russians to hack the Democrats, and his invitation was acted upon; as president, he thus can see no difference, and no wrong, in conditioning release of congressionally approved military aid upon performance of his personal bidding to get dirt, however removed from factual reality, on Joe Biden.

Unwanted physical contact with women? OK as long as you can get away with it; take action about gun violence in the U.S.? Give it lip service but do nothing as long as the stream of financial support from the NRA continues. Challenge the oil companies about the impending crisis of climate change and global warming? Not as long as the checks come in; while were at it, lets end the ability of formerly smoggy California to require higher fuel-efficiency standards, and open public lands to drilling. Do something about the spiraling deficit? Not if we can lower taxes for the wealthy, self included, and so on, and on, and on.

And so it goes, and Putin smiles, with Trump attacking the press, attacking adversaries, making nice with those loyal to him and those whose loyalty gives him personal advantage:A bastardized trickle down theory of that which enriches me eventually will be good for you, but if you cross me, youll have hell to pay.

A code of conduct based on what has become known as the Golden Rule is to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Although not generally followed in the realm of politics, it has never been so perverted as it has been by our commander-in-chief. Rather, the arch-typical bully, he does unto others to get a personal leg up. Its high time that he be held to account.

It took a 13-year-old to show the adults how to conduct themselves | Nancy Eshelman – PennLive

No one was anticipating last weekends midget football game more than Stephen Hudson Jr. and his pal Camden Ward. Both attend Swatara Middle School, but Stephen plays for the Swatara Tigers and Camden for the Seven Sorrows Eagles.

The buddies exchanged good-natured ribbing in the days leading up to the game between the two teams, and they were eager for the battle.

The game turned into a battle all right, but not in the way the boys were expecting.

If you stop by here regularly, you might remember that last weeks column focused on sportsmanship. My point was that it should extend into the stands, with parents providing positive examples. To put it simply, I equated sportsmanship with the Golden Rule.

Unfortunately, nothing golden happened in the stands when Swatara took on Seven Sorrows.

Near the end of the second quarter, with Seven Sorrows leading 21-0, two players got into an argument, a tussle, a fight, depending on who is telling the story. The ref tossed them both out of the game.

Tempers flared. Swatara parents yelled at the ref. The Swatara coach said some nasty words. The ref responded by throwing the coach out of the game. The parents protests grew louder.

Eventually, the ref, who said he feared for his safety, called the police. Then he strongly suggested the Swatara fans leave before he had them arrested.

As they exited, most of the parents took their sons with them.

Down on the field, the game was cancelled. Swatara forfeited.

Then, amid the chaos, Stephen Hudson Jr. did something that no one expected. The kid, who plays fullback and linebacker, walked across the playing field alone and shook hands with each of the Seven Sorrows players.

This 13-year-old boys demonstration of sportsmanship roused the Seven Sorrows stands, where people began clapping and cheering.

Nicole Mehalick, a Seven Sorrows fan, said Stephens actions renewed her hope in the younger generation.

This young man showed so much maturity and integrity, and his sportsmanship shined through. It shined brighter than any grown adult man on that field, she said.

Camden Wards mother, Brandi, echoed those sentiments.

I was so moved by what he did, she said. At their age, its so much easier to be a follower than a leader.

Respect also came from his own team.

Steve Hudson Jr.'s demonstration of sportsmanship roused the Seven Sorrows stands, where people began clapping and cheering.

That was great of him, said James Banks, the Swatara coach who got tossed. Hes an inspiration to me, and Im in my 50s.

Banks, who admitted he should have checked his emotions during the game, said he wasnt surprised.

Hes one of those kids. He stays real respectful, he said.

Meanwhile, Stephens mother, Brittany Moore, said she has been inundated with messages praising her son.

When so many people were touched by it, it was a shock to me, she said. I cried reading so many nice things.

The sad ending to the story is the events caused the league to end the Swatara teams season. The kids, including Stephen, wont play their final game or participate in the playoffs.

Its really a sad situation that the players are being punished for adults poor behavior, Stephens mother said, but Im proud that my son was able to show a high level of maturity through it all.

Kudos, Stephen. You deserve a sportsmanship award.

‘Reptile theory’ loses in bid to reduce $26.5M truck crash verdict – Land Line Media

A federal judge has upheld a $26.5 million judgment against two trucking companies after attorneys tried to use the reptile theory to lower the verdict amount.

On Oct. 11, a judge in a federal court in Oregon denied Horizon Transports motion for a new trial and a challenge to a jurys damage awards. The judge did not buy what is known as the reptile theory as justification for either motion.

In May, a jury found two companies jointly liable for a fatal crash caused by road rage. Brigham City, Utah-based Smoot Bros. Transportation was ordered to pay $1.5 million in punitive damages. Wakarusa, Ind.-based Horizon has to pay $5 million. Both are responsible for the remaining $20 million to the two plaintiffs.

Smoot had entered into an agreement with the plaintiffs before trial. As a result, it was dismissed from the lawsuit after the trial. However, Horizon challenged the damages award, asking the court for a new trial or to reduce the amount.

Explaining the need for a new trial, attorneys for Horizon employed the reptile theory. According to an American Bar Association article, reptile theory shifts the emphasis in lawsuits away from sympathy for an individual or class-action plaintiff and toward anger and punishment for a wrongdoer in order to vindicate the safety or similar interests of the community of which trial jurors are members.

In essence, reptile theory is a reference to the primitive part of the human brain that responds to fear. Also shared by reptiles, this part of the brain favors safety and survival, according to law firm Epstein Becker Green.

Applied in the court room, reptile theory is the act of scaring the jury into fearing for their lives. If done effectively, the result is a win and a large damage award.

Horizons attorneys used that same closing statement to employ the golden rule argument as well. The golden rule argument encourages the jury to put themselves in the position of a party and render a verdict that the jurors would want if they were in that partys position, according to the court opinion.

However, the court pointed out that even if the argument was valid, which it is not, Horizons attorneys made the same error. During the trial the defense counsel told the jury You have a very important job here, according to court records. Youre not only the voice of the community but the conscience of the community.

Even if the reptile theory or golden rule arguments were valid, the court said objections were untimely. Attorneys should have raised those issues immediately after, not once the verdict was made.

Also relevant to the reptile theory, the Ninth Circuit has stated before that using some degree of emotionally charged language during closing argument in a civil case is a well-accepted tactic in American courtrooms.

The court was unpersuaded by either the reptile theory or golden rule argument. Consequently, the $26.5 million verdict was upheld, keeping Horizon on the hook for punitive damages of $5 million.

5 Habits of happy mothers – Aleteia EN

Being a mother can be a very demanding task, but with a positive attitude and some practical habits, we can learn to enjoy the daily challenges of maternity.Learn to ask for help

First of all, happy mothers arent afraid of asking for help. They understand that although they can do a lot, we all have our limitations, and its important to have people we can fall back on when we need help.

Theres no point in trying to do it all on our own and ending up in a bad mood or overwhelmed, afflicted by feelings of guilt, because were too proud to ask for the help we need.

Being a parent is a full-time job, often alongside a professional career, and we shouldnt wait for an emergency to book a babysitter or to ask a family member to help out for a while when wed ordinarily be at home with the kids. Its healthy for both mothers and for the children to have a little time apart sometimes: moms need to give themselves permission to get together with friends, take a long hot bath, or enjoy a romantic dinner or a fun movie with their husband.

Between work and raising kids, it can be hard for parents to make time for exercise, but the golden rule should be to get outdoors at least once a day. Fresh air, natural sunlight, and contact with nature are all factors that can improve our mood and recharge our energy. Mothers can enjoy these benefits while pushing a stroller, for example.

Exercising and stretching can help us keep (or get) our body into shape, as well as refreshing our mind and our mood so we can make it through the rest of the day. Its good for our children too, especially today when its easy for them to spend all their time either at school or indoors doing homework or interacting with a screen.

Children love it when we smile at them. The very act of making ourselves smile or laugh can help stimulate the production of brain chemicals that improve our mood. Wrinkles from smiles are nothing to be ashamed of; on the contrary, they reveal a happy soul.

Hugs are healthy, too! Happy mothers embrace their children every time they get the chance. This is a good idea, because as time goes on and our children grow up well have fewer and fewer opportunities to do it.

Routine can be tiring. Its important to inject a little fun into our daily tasks, which could otherwise be boring but which we cannot avoid. When we go to the supermarket, we can bring some fun toys from home to keep the kids content, and when we get home, we can invite our kids into the kitchen to share time with them while they help unload and put away the groceries.

We can also be creative, and play games with our children or involve them in some other activity related to things that are going on in the world or at home at that time, such as the Olympics, the saint of the day, or some other important event. With this perspective, we can make each day special and unique.

We all want to live up to our ideals about parenting and to do everything right all the time. Nevertheless, there are days when things get out of hand, we are too tired to do it all, we run out of patience, and we bribe our kids with candy or with an episode of their favorite TV program.

Happy mothers know that they need to accept the fact that some days are chaotic and very difficult. Accepting this fact and not letting it upset us too much, focusing on the positive instead, is essential. We need to recognize that bad situations wont last forever.

Theres no way to feel happy all the time, but these practical suggestions can help us deal with the stresses of parenting and avoid common causes of unnecessary headaches and stress.

Now Closed: The Root and Soul in North Scottsdale – Phoenix New Times

The Root and Soul, a 2018-established north Scottsdale restaurant that specialized in gourmet soul food, has closed. The soul food eatery at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and 100th Street was operated byChristian Buze whose grandmother is Elizabeth White, founder of the iconic Mrs. Whites Golden Rule Cafe in downtown Phoenix.

But it was also known for its fried chicken, recently winning a 2019 Best of Phoenix award for best fried chicken. The dish was brined for 24 hours, coated in an 11-spice blend, and cooked in cast iron.

A sign is posted at the entrance regarding the closure, but no notes have been post via social media as of now.

"We are at a crossroad. We have repairs that need to be done that are very expensive,"Buze says via email. "So Im weighing my options."

Coach of Youth Football Team That Suffered Blowout Loss Responds to Backlash Over Possible $500 Fine for Winning Coach – NBC 10 Philadelphia

What to Know

A possible $500 fine for the coach of a local youth football team for a blowout win that violated league rules sparked a big backlash on social media. Now the coach of the team on the losing end is speaking out on the controversy.

Jerry "Bart" Bartholomew, the president and coach of the Roxborough Eagles, faced off against Coach Kyle Williams and his Conshohocken Golden Bears Saturday in a Keystone Sports League matchup.

The Golden Bears, made up of kids no older than 7 years of age, dominated the game from the start, going up 30 to 0 with only minutes left. Under league rules, a team cannot go up by more than 30 points.

"Less than two minutes left I called a timeout because I wanted to pull the starters off the field," Williams told NBC10 Monday. "I put kids in there who normally never played."

When one of the second stringers, a 5-year-old boy, got the ball he ran toward the end zone as Williams ran along the sideline and repeatedly yelled for him to fall down. The boy still scored however, putting the team up 36 to 0.

"All day long they called that play and it was a touchdown," Bartholomew told NBC10 Thursday. "Coach obviously knew the rule because he was running down the sideline after he called a timeout with like 30 seconds left to supposedly get a kid into the game."

Williams is now facing a possible $500 fine and a 2-game suspension.

"I have three sons," Williams said. "I'm not gonna tell my son, especially if he's running the ball, 'Don't go out there and give it your all.'"

The issue likely would have gotten little attention if not for Williams brother-in-law, former Philadelphia Eagle Torrey Smith. In a viral tweet, Smith criticized the punishment, calling it an example of building weak children.

Williams also gained overwhelming support on social media. In an NBC10 Facebook poll made up of around 8600 votes, 89% of users stated Williams should not be fined in comparison to only 11% who said he should. Some coaches and parents even offered to help Williams pay the fine.

Despite this, Bartholomew still believes Williams should be punished.

Hes going to the court of public opinion, trying to get people to support him and sympathize with him going with, Poor me. Im getting penalized because I coach a very good team. No, youre getting penalized because you went against the rules," Bartholomew said.

Bartholomew told NBC10 the mercy rule is in place to protect the young players in the league and that violating the rule could potentially make the children want to leave.

"Players don't want to come back," he said. "Parents don't want their kids to go through that."

The president of the Conshohocken Golden Bears executive board told NBC10 the board does not condone Williams' choice to run the play.

Williams is expected to appear at a league hearing in the next few weeks in which a decision could be made on whether or not he'll be fined.

Ways to get Removed at Blizzcon 2019 – KeenGamer News

Blizzcon rules and guidelines exist to help attendees understand how to behave while on the premises and what is and isnt allowed to get in.

Things arent looking up forBlizzard anytime soon, and it seems like the bad decisions they have are just lurking, waiting for the worst possible time to come out (Diablo Immortal, Im looking at you), and this year everything started happening on the verge of Blizzcon, their big convention in which they announce their upcoming plans in front of the fans that had probably saved up to assist.

The reason behind this particular opinion piece, is that Ive been covering the events unfolding around Blizzard since the decision to ban pro-player Blitzchung over a political statement. In fact, Ive written a comprehensive All-you-need-to-know article, in case youre still a little lost, and I wanted to get a little ahead of myself and keep an eye out for any Blizzcon/Blizzard development that might occur. In particular, although Im not anticipating this to actually happen, Im keeping an eye on the rules that govern the convention, in case there any last-minute changes, such as banning Winnie the Pooh Cosplays or bringing in signs in support of the Hong Kong protests.

Now, Im not saying I believe this isgoing to happen, but I dont believe, seeing what weve seen so far, that they wouldnt react and/or do something about any of these things that they might find in violation of their guidelines.

And thus, I bring you the Ways to get Removed from Blizzcon.

Be a child. One of the first things mentioned in their rules is that children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult to be let in. Under no circumstances will they grant entry to kids aged 5 or under. No strollers allowed, either.

Bring a big bag. If you are trying to have event security take away your bag, you must simply go over the permitted 18x12x8 inches dimensions. Also, be aware that all bags are subject to inspection at any time.

Bring pretty much any electronics besides a cellphone or simple camera:This might come as an exaggeration, but bringing any personal computer, storage device, drone, selfie sticks, tripod, GoPro or anything that doesnt resemble a cellphone is a big NO-NO. As far as cameras go, anything with a permanent lense larger than 6 inches is also prohibited. Also, Streaming anything other than esports events is also prohibited, you cant even point your phone to the screens.

Leave your common-sense at home:This is a public place, so dont bring anything that you wouldnt take to the library. No motorized vehicles, no scooters, no animals, no flammables, no confetti. Pretty much just be logical here. Exceptions are made for differently-abled people and/or licensed service animals. No emotional support animals, though.

BYOF: Any external edibles or drinkables aside from sealed water bottles are prohibited.

Show off your arsenal:Any (real) weapon is not allowed. Ranging from flammable liquids, passing through knives and firearms and landing on crossbows.

Show lack of judgement with your costume:When bringing a costume to Blizzcon, the best way to not even be let inside is to go over the permitted dimensions: no wider than 4 feet, longer than 6 feet, or taller than 8 feet. You could also get yourself removed or your weapon prop taken away if they can in any way hurt somebody. So if your prop firearm actually fires or your arrows are actually sharp or your Junkrat shell has actual metal spikes, well, its getting taken away. Again, common sense is the golden rule here.

So far weve been going through all the rules that are spelt out for us. Follow permitted dimensions when it comes to costumes and bags, dont make any dangerous weapon, dont bring any real weapons, forget getting anything other than your phone and short-snubbed camera in, and you should be good. However, there is an 8th way to get yourself removed from Blizzcon, or who knows? maybe even not be let inside.

Pull a Wildcard. Like having a Joker in your hand when playing cards, the Wildcard can be literally anything. Ill explain: Blizzard has stated in their rules that In order to ensure the event provides a safe, enjoyable, and welcoming environment for everyone, Blizzard reserves the right to remove from BlizzCon any person whose conduct is deemed to be disorderly or unbecoming

While this might sound like a legit and reasonable rule, I cant help but relate it to the Hearthstone Grandmasters Official Competition Rules v.1.4 p. 12, section 6.1 (otherwise known as the cited rule Blizzard used to disqualify and ban Blitzchung), which reads:Engaging in any act that,in Blizzards sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard image will result in removal from Grandmasters

My concern with this vague wording of ruling is that, while I understand things can be unpredictable and you cant contemplate everything in your rules, this also gives ground to pretty much make up stuff to get you removed from Blizzcon or denied entry. If it happened at Hearthstone it can certainly happen at Blizzcon.

Well be keeping an eye for any last-minute corrections to the Blizzcon rules, in case something is deemed important to add in short notice atBlizzards sole discretion.

"We Are Many-United Against Hate" Announces 12-Step Program to Kick America’s Addiction to Hate and Violence – madison365.com

Were seeing one mass shooting after another. Relentless scapegoating and demonizing of immigrants. Ugly racist incidents. Domestic terrorism by white supremacists, says We Are Many-United Against Hate Founder and President Masood Akhtar in a statement. Some politicians call for gun control. Others say no, the focus needs to be on mental health treatment. Still, others say no, something needs to be done about video games. They end up doing nothing. They are all hacking at branches, no one is striking at the roots,

We Are Many-United Against Hate announced today that is challenging what they see as inaction of federal, state and local officials with its call for a 12-step program to battle the countrys addiction to hate and violence.

Make no mistake, Congress and the president should take action dealing with gun violence, and so should the states, starting with measures that have overwhelming public support like universal criminal background checks, red flag laws, gun licensing, limiting the size of ammunition clips and raising the legal purchasing age to 21. Such steps are necessary but not sufficient. They do not get to the root of hate, Akhtar says in a statement.

We Are Many-United Against Hate Executive Director Mike McCabe says that its important to recognize that the president didnt start the fire. He fans the flames, he pours gasoline on the blaze, he exploits it for his own political gain, McCabe says in a press release. But the fire was already burning before he got to the White House. Its a big reason why hes in the White House.

We Are Many-United Against Hate outlined the following 12 steps to beating the addiction to hate and violence in America:

Step 1.Relieve economic stress. As former white supremacist leader and We Are Many-United Against Hate advisory board member Arno Michaelis points out, violent extremist ideologies prey upon stresses like economic insecurity. One way to create more economic stability and also address workers dissatisfaction with their jobs is to detach health insurance from employment and guarantee universal coverage. Too many people stay in jobs they cant stand for fear of losing health insurance, a huge source of stress. Another way to create more economic security and free workers to pursue more satisfying employment is to replace traditional welfare programs with a universal basic income program. We Are Many-United Against Hate supports a pilot program testing the effectiveness of a basic income program.

Step 2.Reconnect with nature. Medicate less, recreate more. Make the Nature Rx movement into national policy and practice, with physicians prescribing time outdoors instead of so many painkillers. Its shown to lower stress, blood pressure, heart rate and anxiety, and improve mood and mental health.

Step 3.Destigmatize and decriminalize mental health. Require that all health insurancecovers mental health treatment as completely as treatment of physical illness. And come to terms with the reality that the most common response to mental illness in America is currently imprisonment. Mental health challenges need to be treated, not punished.

Step 4.Incarcerate less, educate more. America spends more per prisoner than per student. Wisconsin spends more of its state budget on prisons than on the entire state university system. Minnesota is imprisoning half as many people as Wisconsin, yet the two states have virtually identical crime rates, illustrating how mass incarceration has not made our country safer but has devoured resources that could be used instead to better fund education. Paying so much for failure makes it infinitely harder to afford investments in success. To reverse this, stop imprisoning nonviolent offenders.

Step 5.Demilitarize immigration. Repeal and replace ICE. Restore the federal Immigration and Naturalization Service with a mission acknowledging that openness to foreigners has been a defining characteristic of America and is essential to who we are as a nation, a sharp departure from the militarized and xenophobic nature of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Step 6.Administer a prescription-strength dose of democracy. Pathologies in our political system breed division, polarization and extreme partisanship that set a tone for all of society. Gerrymanderingthe rearrangement of voting districts to favor the party in powerresults in lopsided elections that produce a Congress and state legislatures full of ideologues and party loyalists who have little interest in working with the opposition. Redistricting done by an independent, nonpartisan authority can yield more cooperation and problem solving. Similarly, ranked-choice voting where voters rank all candidates in order of preference rather than casting just one vote for one candidate in a race discourages negative campaigning. When candidates likely need some second or third place votes as well as first-place votes to win, theyll be careful about attacking their opponents because they need support from at least some of their opponents voters.

Step 7.Teach civics.Todays schools focus on preparing young people to participate in the economy but not our democracy. Overemphasis of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education and near-total abandonment of civics instruction creates a school system concerned more with producing skilled workers than good citizens. How strange that in a country that boasts of being the worlds greatest democracy, democracy really isnt taught. When the workings of government and how to responsibly consume media and distinguish between news and propaganda are not meaningfully taught, the population is left vulnerable to demagoguery and indoctrination. Merchants of hate feast on these conditions.

Step 8.Talk about religion and politics. Its said that religion and politics are two things that should never be discussed in polite company. This is a rule that needs to be regularly broken. Avoiding any talk of religion and politics has only led to a lack of understanding of religion and politics and made us less capable of having civil conversations about difficult topics.

Step 9.Recommit to the First Amendments separation of church and state. The First Amendment protects the right to practice ones own faith but also safeguards everyone from having anothers religion imposed on us. Freedom of religion and freedom from religious discrimination go hand in hand. Thats a core American value that we have strayed from.

Step 10.Dedicate to inclusive communities. Schools are being resegregated through voucher and charter programs. Rules aimed at preventing housing discrimination are being weakened. Such policies need to be reversed.

Step 11.Unite around a shared national purpose. When America is at its best, there is a strongsense of national purpose. Its what put a man on the moon. At this time of growing division and hate in our society, as we try to wall ourselves off, it is no coincidence that its hard to put a finger on a common aim Americans are united in pursuing. Preventing the ecological, economic and social calamity sure to be brought on by global climate change could and should be such an aim. America should shoot for the moon and put our ingenuity to work making the United States the first nation on Earth fully powered by renewable energy.

Step 12.Practice common decency. We dont all have to love each other. We dont even have to like each other. But to break the addiction to hate and violence, we do have to follow the Golden Rule, treating others as wed like to be treated ourselves at home, in our neighborhoods, in the workplace, in politics.

Hate and violence do not have a single cause. There is not a single branch to cut. We have to strike at the roots, McCabe said in a statement. One of the roots is economic insecurity and inequality. Some of the roots have to do with mental health challenges and make the need to overhaul both the health care and criminal justice systems painfully apparent. Some of the needed root striking involves personal soul searching, some involves changing what schools are doing, some requires fixing our democracy. Immigration reform is part of the answer. Protecting nature and getting outdoors more is another part of it. Responding to the climate emergency positively can be a powerful way to deal with growing hate and violence if we can unite behind this effort as a common national aim.

E.ON: Smart approach to EV charging is critical – The Energyst

E.ON will switch its fleet to EVs by 2030. Its experience should drive smarter results for businesses, says Hannah Collishaw, director of E.ON Drive.

Whether rolling out a handful of EVs or hundreds, the golden rule is to put yourself in the driving seat quite literally, says Collishaw.

Our focus has been to follow the driver and fully understand their behaviour and needs. If you understand what they experience, you develop better solutions, says Collishaw. We consider everything from the drivers perspective.

That maxim applies both to domestic drivers and business users. For the latter, particularly fleets, Collishaw believes a virtual test drive is the best place to start.

Understand the nature of the journeys, where and when people will be charging, she advises. That helps to select the right vehicles and charging infrastructure and the best places to put it.

Think ahead

A roadmap that considers EVs future impact on energy consumption is also essential, given distribution network constraints.

If you have a lot of vehicles, chargepoints can utilise a lot of power. A sites capacity how much electricity it is allowed to draw from the distribution network can be quite a big consideration, says Collishaw. So its important to think about how you implement EVs as part of a broader energy strategy.

Anecdotally, Collishaw says capacity is constrained at around one in three sites. Where reinforcement is required, costs can be significant, upwards of 100,000, but that is rare, she says. They are typically much lower, perhaps 15,000.

Smart charging

Smart charging can negate the need for network upgrades. This can take two forms; dynamic load management, where the available capacity is intelligently shared between a number of vehicles, and load shifting.

Load shifting ensures best fit with the sites energy usage; matching the ebb and flow of energy use throughout the day to optimise how and when the chargers are used, says Collishaw. She believes smart charging will be massively important as the UK continues to decarbonise, and more drivers switch to EVs.

For example, on sunny, windy days there may be too much power on the system at midday. Charging during that period could benefit both for the power system and EV owners, especially when time-of-use tariffs become mainstream, says Collishaw. As such, it is critical to incorporate a smart approach to charging.

Onsite generation

Theres debate around public acceptance of controlled charging, but Collishaw says businesses are highly engaged and very open to the conversation.

Larger organisations may also have onsite generation, which can be integrated with charging. Or they may consider investing in generation as part of an overall solution, particularly businesses with their own fleet, or those with a sustainability agenda, adds Collishaw. And when people are engaged it becomes a point of interest to build around.

Future proof

E.ON typically installs 22kW fast chargers at business sites, which are capable of fully charging vehicles in a couple of hours.

At present, the most common EV, Nissans Leaf, charges at 6.6kW (unless connected through a 50kW rapid charger). It will therefore charge at the same rate on a 22kW charger as a 7kW charger (six hours). However, Collishaw says that by installing 22kW chargepoints, businesses are future-proofing: They can charge more vehicles today using less infrastructure, while preparing for broader uptake and range of vehicles that can take higher rates of charge.

A 7kW charger may be cheaper, but may not be the best overall solution, she says. Our aim is always to strike that balance between current and future needs.

Accelerating the rate of change

The shift to EVs is inevitable as evidenced by car manufacturers pivoting their businesses. But Collishaw thinks government could speed the transition and help ensure more vehicles are shipped to the UK than elsewhere.

Bringing forward governments 2040 target to ban sales of petrol and diesel vehicles nearer to 2030 would be a good start, suggests Collishaw.

Benefit-in-kind changes coming into force next year will make EVs more financially attractive and should boost uptake, though Collishaw urges government not to ditch current fiscal incentives.

Anything that helps organisations to digest upfront costs has a direct effect on the car manufacturers, she says. At the moment, supply and demand is definitely a challenge and we see that in our own EV rollout. You dont really want to wait 11 months for vehicles to arrive if you want to change your fleet today.

This article was published inThe Energysts2019 EV Report.

The report includes a survey of more than 100 businesses and details their EV and charging plans as well as attitudes to smart charging and vehicle-to-grid services.

It also contains interviews with other businesses switching fleets to EVs, charging point companies, distribution network operators, consultants, carmakers, technology firms and energy suppliers.

Biffy Clyro bring electrifying performance to Digbeth Arena – review with pictures – expressandstar.com

Hosted by Jack Daniels, the Scottish rockers traded the warmth of a traditional arena for the stunning Digbeth arches, exposed scaffolding and shipping containers for an electrifying performance.

Shirtless and sporting only loud, colourful trousers, the trio burst onto the stage to the charged first notes of Balance, Not Symmetry.

"Birmingham we've missed you so. It's so good to be back," vocalist Simon Neal gushed, and the audience shared their adoration with deafening cheers.

The group treated fans to a varied setlist, from early hits Living Is a Problem Because Everything Dies and There's No Such Thing as a Jaggy Snake, to new anthems Re-Arrange and Howl.

Smash hits That Golden Rule and Mountains had the entire crowd moving to the iconic choruses and crushing instrumentals - there's something special about bellowing 'I am the mountain, I am the sea' with hundreds of people that just cannot be matched.

What united tracks both new and old was the flawless execution of each and every track. Furious guitar licks and technical solos reverberated across the walls, carried by raw drum rolls and Simon's melodic vocals.

Biffy's stage presence was lapped up by the audience, encouraging participation to create an intimate, carefree atmosphere on the cold mid-week night.

"Have you all got your dancing shoes on?" Simon bellowed, before bowling into renditions of Bubbles and Born on a Horse.

Despite the stripped-back setting of the show, the band still channelled every inch of excitement and theatrics that their large-scale shows demonstrate.

The band bathed the audience in a wondrous light show that added extra depth to each song, culminating in Simon illuminated in pink and gold as he delivered a hair-raising rendition of Adored.

Ending their set on the anthemic Many of Horror, the entire crowd begged for more, with chants of 'mon the Biff' echoing across the venue.

And the band obliged, with stellar performances of Wolves of Winter, Machines, and thrashing hit Stingin' Belle. In one last burst of energy, the band left Birmingham breathless after an intense and explosive show that highlighted their tremendous talents.

Biffy Clyro have clambered to successful heights with their complex, crushing musical style while proudly singing in Scottish accents, and last night's show cemented exactly why they're a force to be reckoned with.

Veteran writing instructor was born to teach – Aztec Press

Story and photo

by ELLIANA KOPUT

Mic Denfeld is a writing instructor at Pima Community Colleges West Campus.

Shes one of the oldest, most experienced, most lively and compassionate faculty members. She is held near and dear to the hearts of many.

Denfeld leads her classes through a series of assignments that aim to encourage metacognition and personal growth. I sat down to discuss with her to discuss her experiences and inspirations.

Q: How long have you been teaching at Pima and in what area of study?

A: I teach Writing 101. Ive been at Pima 27 years. I was a teacher for most of it and a dean for a couple of years. I can even tell you the date from 91 to 91, but I always come back to the classroom.

Q: What inspired you to become a writing teacher?

A: I just wanted to be a teacher. I started teaching sociology, summer school, at Iowa Wesleyan. And then I said I wanted to go to graduate school, so they said, Go to Western Illinois University. They supported that, and I got in and all that. So I taught there while I got my degree, and then I taught again at Iowa State when I got that degree. Thats how I payed for school was I taught. I like the classroom. This age group is developing their prefrontal cortex, which determines how you see yourself and who you are. So its an honor to be a part of that process with people.

Q: Was there a moment in your career that sticks out to you?

A: I had somebody confess to a murder in class. We were discussing euthenasia, and he said, I killed someone once. So we just let him talk, and he said he was a medic. And they were on the battlefield. His platoon, it was hit by a shell and almost severed his body, practically severed in half, but he was alive. He was screaming, Kill me! Kill me! And so he crawled out there under fire and gave him a lethal shot of morphine. The class was stunned. There was just silence. Just silence, and then, and I said, Everybody makes the best decisions they can in every situation theyre in. When the students left the class that day, they went by and just touched his shoulder. It was like he had the resolution he needed and sort of the absolving of him.

Q: Are there moments in time that you feel your being a teacher affects your daily life?

A: Always because thats my training to teach someone something. We used to play school when I was a kid. I guess thats where I got it. And I liked to write on the boards, and now I do that, too. I like to learn. I read every day of my life. I love books, as you can see by my collection. And I even just donated some more. Im addicted to learning. I know that. I have to. I have to be learning. And it can be almost anything, but I go from this to that to that to this to whatever because its interesting. Then I find things to talk about or think about. Being conscious is just so awesome. Look what were given a chance to be conscious people with an experience over many years. We get to do this. Its just incredible.

Q: Can you tell me about where and when you were born? How your upbringing was?

A: A long, long time ago I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Adopted by some parents. I almost died when I was born, so they kept me in the orphanage for about six months. And then they put me up for adoption. Then I got the absolute parents I needed because, well, they only had seventh- and eighth-grade educations. They were thinkers, and I got to participate in all of that What do you think? What do you think?

I like the snow and the trees. When I die Im gonna be a tree, because now you can get cremated and be a tree. Which I think is endlessly cool. I was raised in the outdoors we were always fishing or doing something outdoors up in the woods. Thats still the place I go to just refresh my whole self. Mount Lemmon, ahhhh, beautiful.

Im a Green Bay Packer fan, of course. Go Pack! And Go Cats!

Q: Whats your favorite Packers game youve been to?

A: When we beat the Vikings. They had a big goose egg at the end, and we had all the points. Yes! Its a chance to yell and scream and holler and be happy and be sad and be grumpy with the referees when you dont like what they do.

Q: Outside of education, what are some of your primary values?

A: I think the golden rule is the one that is just it. If we all did that, wed be in good shape. Do unto others as you would do unto you, blah blah blah. I value honesty, I value love. I love so many things, people and animals and trees and water and the ocean. Oh God, I love the ocean.

I love to travel. Everywhere. Ive been to so many places because I dont save any money to retire, which is why Im still teaching. But between my book habit and travel habit, I want to go see and meet people. The people of the world are so cool. And so helpful, and so wonderful. And theres so many things to see. I left part of my heart in Alaska a couple of years ago. Oh my God. The Northwest Glacier is 700 feet tall. We were in a boat. You have to back from the glacier itself, but it was majestic. It was so amazing, oh my God. And then I went kayaking, and then I flew over to the island and got to walk around where the bears were. There was a bear like from me to you, sleeping. We saw a mama bear with cubs running around. She was trying to teach them something. They were paying no attention, of course. Its the same, every species. I love art. I will see any art museums I can see. I love music, all kinds of it. When I hear music, I have to move. I dont care where I am. Im gonna be moving around to the beat. Grocery stores particularly. You can tell the people who want to do it, but they cant allow themselves to make a fool of themselves by dancing in the aisles of the grocery store. I cant help it.

Q: Whats one thing you would say to those people?

A: Cmon! Dance! Were so structured and something-ed about ourselves. You can be as free as you wanna be.

Q: Is there anything else about yourself or otherwise that you would like to have the world know?

A: Did you know that Im the queen of the hobos? Theres a hobo convention in Britt, Iowa, every year in August. They elect a king and queen by applause; they have a parade.

We ate mulligan stew, which is a stew hobos eat where you throw everything in a pot. Whatever you have goes in and you feed all these people mulligan stew. I havent gone very much recently, usually because Im traveling in the summer. That happens, and I gotta get back to school. But Ive had it five years in a row, which is the most anybodys ever done. You take a hobo name. I was made a hobo by BoxCar Myrtle, and my hobo name is LongLooker Mic. Because I love to travel, I love to hitchhike with truckers. Theyre fun to ride with. Its just fun to meet people hitchhiking because theyre neat. People say, Arent you afraid? but Im not dumb. Im not gonna get in the car unless I feel comfortable. If I need to get out of the car, I know how, and all those kinds of things. But Im not afraid of people. I like people. They tell you their life story cause theyre never gonna see you again.

Q: How would you conjure up your experiences into a few words of advice?

A: Live until you die. Dont die before your time. People stop adventuring. They stop being amazed. They stop learning. They stop, and then they wait to die. I think thats boring. I dont believe in all organized religion things. I believe Im here, and I get a chance with however many years I have to make the most of it and have fun. It should be a place to have fun. We make it so tough, my gosh. Aw, cmon. Lighten up, lighten up.

The whole point of the movie was to make an anti-concert film, Evans previously told NME. We were moaning about cranes and all that festival footage. One night a couple of years ago we were talking about how much we loved old Sex Pistols concerts. Theres a brilliant compilation of punk films on Sky Atlantic at the moment all about that old Tony Wilson show,So It Goes. Hed film Buzzcocks gigs but only send two or three cameras. Because they had longer takes and would just cut what they had, it felt so much more exciting than having say 20 cameras where nothing is left to chance. We wanted to leave something to chance with this.

The whole premise was me with a low-end, lo-fi camera, shooting one member of the band each night, going round them each gig from a different angle and shooting the audience. That was it the golden rule. There wasnt an intention to release anything, it was more about a document of the tour, but then a friend of mine edited some stuff together and we realised we had something.

He added: [Bassist, Nicky] Wire phoned me today and said he still had a headache from watching the film. I didnt know whether to be chuffed or worried.

Meanwhile, Manic Street Preachers recently went on tour alongside the Welsh rugby team in Japan where they invited the squads Jamie Roberts on stage to perform.

Speaking about his thoughts on the Manics next album, bassist Nicky Wire last year told NME:I just think musically, James [Dean Bradfield, frontman] is bursting with electricity. You can feel it in him. Hes got that desire to start up again. He was talking to me about ideas on how to make things more expansive.

Ive some words on the go, but theres no coherent message. Ive just been listening to This Is My Truth a lot. Its such a deep and heavy album for a record that was so big. It just makes you realise that you can push the limits and have success.

Manics last album was 2018s acclaimed Resistance Is Futile.
