Gelang Patah parliamentary member Lim Kit Siang has called on Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Khaled Nordin to lead a study tour of all 56 Johor state assembly members to the new island Pulau Ubah which sprung up off Tanjung Kupang in past two weeks and to understand the serious threat to the eco-system caused by mysterious massive land reclamation.
Lim said on Feb 15, accompanied by the DAP Johor state assemblyman for Pengkalan Rinting, Cheo Yee How, and Pakatan Rakyat leaders from PAS and PKR, he had discovered and visited a new island off Kampung Pendas.
In a statement Feb 16,Lim pointed out that the island is growing every day and will eventually be some 10 or 20 times bigger than its present size when its fully completed.
"This is a man-made island and is not to be found in any of the maps in the country, and I believe even Khaled is not aware of the new island's existence," he said.
Lim said the island was named Pulau Uban during the visit.

Toyota will begin testing its wireless charging system for the Prius and other EVs and plug-in hybrids later the month, aiming to cut the number of times drivers of eco-friendly vehicles need to plug in. The technology, a ruggedized pad that sits in a parking space and can withstand being driven over by the careless, begins charging as soon as a compatible car is positioned on top, with Toyota's video demo - which you can see after the cut - showing a self-parking Prius automatically maneuvering itself into place.
Toyota confirmed it would be experimenting with wireless charging back in August 2013, with the company telling SlashGear that it believed such a system would cut down on what some would-be EV drivers believed to be a pain-point of ownership. At the same time, Toyota teased details about the fourth-gen Prius, now expected to debut an edgier, more challenging design.
The system itself uses technology from WiTricity, Toyota announced late last year, having invested in the startup after it was spun out of an MIT project in 2011. Since then, the two companies have "cooperated technically" Toyota said.
As for manufacturing the pads, Toyota suggested that it would not be doing that itself, but instead encouraging third-party charger vendors to license WiTricity's system. In addition to drivers equipping their own garages and parking spaces, it's not outlandish to imagine a public parking garage outfitted with the pads so that EVs could recharge when away from home, too.
In Toyota's demo, what appears to be a Japanese Prius test car uses the existing self-parking system to navigate its way into a space and align itself on top of the pad correctly.

While the GHMC is struggling to get its electric crematoriums functioning, a private-public initiative has opened a modern eco-friendly crematorium complex, markedly different in terms of upkeep and ambience.
Swarg Vatika has come up near an old open cremation ground on the road leading to Manasarovar Heights, the housing complex off RTC colony at Tirumalgiri, Secunderabad. It has gassifier/bio-gas and LPG/CNG crematoriums, both located in a neatly kept building inside the walled facility.
The complex has a 30-ft high chimney, and the machinery is equipped with a wet scrubber pollution control system to prevent soot and foul odour from going out. More importantly, the entire area has pleasant environs, with trees and plants, paved pathways, covered shelters, chairs, clean changing rooms and a parking lot.
Our idea is to have a facility serving as an abode of peace and tranquillity unlike what we usually encounter, says D.N. Gauri, chairman, Swarg Vatika Trust, and the man behind the project, which is said to have cost more than Rs. 2.5 crore. Over the last four years, he had been liaising with the authorities and then Collector Navin Mittal for delineating the land. He also roped in top industrialists, doctors and eminent citizens to contribute towards the project spread across 13,000 square metres.
There is no such PPP facility in any other city. I want it to be the best in the country. We will run the crematorium on a secular basis and is open to all castes and communities at a nominal cost. The poor will get free service, affirms Mr. Gauri, an ex-IAF officer, philanthropist and industrialist. Contact him at dayanand@gauries.com or 23778803.
The facility has servant/staff quarters, mortuary, cold store, ashes room and vehicles to transport the dead. For those opting for conventional firewood funeral, the trust has developed five platforms. The donors include K. Satish Reddy of Dr. Reddys Lab, J. Ranjith Rao of My Home Group, C. Malla Reddy of Malla Reddy Group of Institutions, Sunil Talwar of Talwar Hyundai and doctors Somaraju, Mohana Vamsy, Guruva Reddy, Kasu Prasad Reddy, Gokhale and B. Narsaiah.

The Premier League star, who is said to be on 150,000 a week, applied for the work under Energy Companies Obligation system introduced by the Coalition last year
A millionaire footballer got 10,000 worth of wall insulation for his mansion for FREE under a Government scheme while a frail 98-year-old widow was left to freeze in her home nearby .
The Premier League star, who is said to be on 150,000 a week, applied for the work under the Energy Companies Obligation system introduced by the Coalition last year.
Under the so-called energy efficient scheme, the football aces three-storey pad was classed as hard-to-treat, which meant he got all the work done for free as it would save on future bills.
But the hard-up pensioner living on benefits in the same area in a three-bedroom semi was left out in the cold.
A disgusted insulation firm boss called to work for the lady and then the footie star just 24 hours later explained: ECO is an umbrella scheme based on different pots of money paid out for homes which are hard-to-treat, in low-income areas and judged fuel poor.
But the money available for the fuel poor has plummeted since December because energy companies have hit their targets on reducing carbon emissions.
Contractors could earn 12,000 on a job which only cost 1,200 because the payment is based on future carbon saving at the property.
But most of those suffering from fuel poverty are in small houses and are not going to make those kinds of savings on fuel emissions.
The man, who asked to remain anonymous, went on to attack the ludicrous inequality of system.

The county is set to officially unveil what its chief building officer Mike Giles is calling the most eco-friendly commercial building in Dufferins history.
Without question, Giles said of the new seniors apartment building located at 40 Lawrence Ave. I believe it is. I dont know of any that would be any more (eco-friendly).
The county will host the official opening ceremony for the Lawrence Avenue Apartments on Thursday (Sept. 9), inside the second floor common room at 11 a.m., followed by refreshments and a tour of the facility.
During that tour of the three-floor, 30-unit apartment building, visitors will be given the chance to see how some of its environmentally friendly features work first-hand.
Equipped with geothermal heating, every unit has its own independent furnace, so that when windows or a patio door are opened, each units heating or cooling system automatically shuts off.
That is relatively new in most places actually. We dont want to be heating cold air from outside, Giles said. It saves a lot of energy.
Fitted with solar power on the roof, Giles said the panels are expected to conserve 30 to 35 per cent of hot water heating costs, while its insulated concrete floor has pretty much double the insulation of a normal building. In addition, the heating ventilating recovery system will refresh air inside the building three times an hour, Giles added.
Last but not least, the apartment building features a tri-sorter for garbage, recyclables and compost, one of the first of its kind in Dufferin County, Giles added.
You push a button whether it is garbage, recycling or compost, he said. I dont know of a building that has a chute for compost.

Mumbai: 'Lakshaya: EK Living Planet', a show on environmental issues, hit the small screen with the avowed aim of creating an environment movement in the country.
'Lakshaya: EK Living Planet' is a 26-episode environment series that went on air in January on Doordarshan and airs every Sunday at 9.30 p.m.
It is hosted by Niret Alva, chairman of Miditech Pvt Ltd, who feels there is a big communication gap when it comes to environmental issues.
"In todays era there is a big gap in communication when it comes to environmental issues. While there are cutting edge public service adverts and one off documentaries, there isnt really an incisive television series that focuses on the need to better understand our fragile eco system," Alva said in a statement.
"'Lakshaya: EK living planet' fills that gap by focusing on the immediate environment issues in an investigative reportage form without mincing any words or being safe," he said.
Highlighting the unique features of the show, he said that "it works with passionate young filmmakers from around the country on the editorial approach".
"They send in story ideas, they shoot and we work together till the story truly brings out what we are trying to say," he added.
Each episode of 'Lakshaya: EK Living Planet' has five different segments - red alert - stories based on the socio-environment issues; wild India - stories based on man-animal conflict and conservation; green tech - technologies at the forefront of environment revolution; initiative, environmental success stories; and citizen, stories from citizens of India on environment issues in their backyard.
