Become entrepreneurs, not merely employees: Naidu

Visakhapatnam, Sept. 29:

Students should aim at becoming entrepreneurs rather than hunting for jobs in big companies, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hereon Monday after inaugurating a technology park.

He was interacting with students after inaugurating the Technology Research and Innovation Park Sunrise Start-up -- powered by the AP Government and the Start-up Village. Citing the example of Bill Gates, he said students should make all efforts to develop the creativity within themselves. He the Government was keen on encouraging creative minds and it was trying to create a start-up eco-system.

In the first phase, 17,000 square feet is going to be thrown open for industries at the Sunrise Start-up on Hill 3 in Rushikonda IT Park. Provisionally four companies have been allocated space in the incubation area and another 10 companies have been allocated space in the Incubation Centre.

The 10 companies, including Trigeo Technologies Pvt Ltd, Tessolve, Avvas Infotech Pvt Ltd, Sinofic, Logic Planet, Lampex Electronics Ltd, Naina Power Pvt Ltd, Inspired IT Solutions Ltd, Epace Tecnologies and Objectone Information System, are aiming at creating direct employment to 6,000 professionals and to bring in investment of over Rs 200 crore.

Earlier, the students had a an interaction session with Executive Vice-Chairman of Infosys Kris Gopalakrishnan.

The distinction between services and products is getting blurred, and what is being considered a product is soon becoming a service in the Information and Communication Technology sector, Gopalakrishnan told aspiring student entrepreneurs.

He explained the essence of entrepreneurship to students and the importance of the facility provided by the start-up village. Students with an idea can come to the Sunrise Startup and get it incubated and once it is developed into a product, they can move out and set up their own enterprise.

When asked why Indian IT majors were not looking at technology start-ups and accelerators, Gopalakrishnan pointed out that companies like Microsoft or Google promote start-ups and technology accelerators to promote development of applications and services using their platforms whereas Indian IT majors were not into product development.

Recalling his experience when he set up Infotech, founder and Executive Chairman of Cyient BV R Mohan Reddy said that the aspiring entrepreneurs have an advantage of getting access to facilities provided by the the Sunrise Start-up. The facility is the best thing that could happen to aspiring entrepreneurs, it would create an IT incubator eco-system in Visakhapatnam, he said.

Calgon Carbon to Supply BWT Systems to Edison Chouest – Analyst Blog

Calgon Carbon 's ( CCC ) fully owned subsidiary - Hyde Marine, Inc. - has been chosen by Edison Chouest Offshore ("ECO") for supplying its ballast water treatment (BWT) systems to ECO's extensive fleet of ships. A Letter of Intent has been signed between the two companies, under which, Hyde Marine has agreed to supply BWT systems to more than 250 ships in keeping with all the regulations.

Hyde Marine has received more than 15 Hyde GUARDIAN BWT system installation orders from ECO. The company has also arranged a complete functional system to train crew members and shipyard personnel regarding the installation and operation guidelines at ECO headquarters in Cut Off, LA.

The Hyde GUARDIAN Gold BWT system is chemical free and approved by both International Maritime Organization (IMO) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) Alternative Management System (AMS). It treats ballast water with a two-way method to check the spread of invasive microorganisms.

The Hyde GUARDIAN BWT System features modular and compact design with less power consumption, low-pressure drop and an uncomplicated fully-automatic mechanism which makes it suitable for ships.

The Hyde GUARDIAN BWT System, the first to be approved by both IMO and AMS, has helped the maritime market with updated information about ballast water treatment regulations making it a natural choice for ECO. Hyde GUARDIAN has been approved by AMS to be used on ships for five years as it abides by the USCG Ballast Water Discharge Standards.

Calgon Carbon, one of the prominent pollution control companies along with CECO Environmental Corp. ( CECE ) and Donaldson Company, Inc. ( DCI ), ventured into the global market for ballast water treatment with its acquisition of Hyde Marine in 2010.

Calgon Carbon currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

A better-ranked company in the pollution control industry is Sharps Compliance Corp. ( SMED ) with a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Concrete Countertop Solutions New Pool Coping Forming System to Revolutionize the Pool Installation Process

Clarks Summit (PRWEB) September 24, 2014

Made from durable PVC plastic, Z Poolform locks directly into the supplied receiver track on concrete and fiberglass pools, or into the liner track on a vinyl liner pool. The new pool edge forming system will alleviate the need for more traditional and less functional styrofoam coping edge forms to create a custom cantilevered pool edge. Architects, contractors, pool builders, and designers will all appreciate the carefully thought-out system that this new idea implements, which allows for easy installation in just a couple hours. This saves time and money for the contractor and customer.

Pool contractors will immediately realize the countless hours of engineering that went into the Z Poolform Stystem. Concrete will not leak between or under the Z Poolforms and there is no need for additional tie wires or bracing.

A spokesman for Concrete Countertop Solutions, explained that they developed this revolutionary system to replace the single use styrofoam option which often results in waste of materials and an inferior product. Z Poolform is also "eco friendly" because it minimizes waste at the completion of the job. Z Poolforms can be reused by simply cleaning them at the end of each project. Best of all, this new method yields more consistent and error-free results than the traditional styrofoam pool forms and creates a beautiful custom textured cantilevered pool edge, which cannot be obtained any other way.

Concrete Countertop Solutions executives stated that they are offering 7 different edge profile choices with complementing surface stamps and texture mats. This will allow the concrete pool deck to match the custom edge texture.

The benefits of this new pool coping form technology are immense. Its quick and easy to install and reuse, it allows for custom-edge details, and it allows you to create a perfect decorative edge with minimal errors and mess. It works with all types of pools, including fiberglass, vinyl liner, and concrete, making it a solution that can be used in multi-purpose environments and installation scenarios. This product will forever change the way concrete pool decks are installed.

The new concrete pool coping form system is now available in their online store at: http://www.concretecountertopsolutions.com.

Concrete Countertop Solutions is the premier industry leader in do it your self concrete countertop systems and is the founder of the patented concrete countertop system called Z-Counterform System. Other systems in their inventory include: Z Liqui-Crete System, and now the Z-Poolform Pool Coping System. Based out of Clarks Summit, PA, each system was designed for the end user in mind. Concrete Countertop Solutions is always at the forefront of concrete technology and sells their products and systems through their online store as well as through distributors nationwide.

So far, interest in the lodge is growing among celebrities, and around 30 celebrities have already signed on to stay at the lodge.

"This week we started taking requests from celebrities to come to the Eco Lodge," Olejar said. "We revealed the project backstage at the premier of Dancing with the Stars and had several cast members and celebrity audience members signup to come stay at the lodge when it is completed."

Some of the celebrities already signed up to visit the lodge include Allison Holker, Emma Slater, Karina Smirnoff, Val Chmerkovskiy and Henry Byalikov from Dancing with the Stars. Others from previous seasons include race car driver Michael Waltrip, Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish, Youtube sensation Bethany Mota and Alfonso Ribeiro from the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire.

Additional celebrities slated to visit northern Michigan include Justin Hartley of Revenge fame, Motown singer Smokey Robinson, Insider host Keltie Knight, and Ralph Macchio of Karate Kid fame.

"We didn't tell celebrities about the location of the lodge until last week, and once they knew the location, they were interested," Olejar said. "Any of the celebrities on the list can schedule a time at the lodge within the next three years, and we've already seen posts starting on Twitter about the lodge. With all the celebrities signing up already, we're proving our concept that celebrities want to stay there."

Construction for the around 1,500 square foot lodge is expected to begin in spring, and due to suggestions by several of those interested, Celebrity Black Card, LLC has decided to add an additional bedroom onto the lodge.

The company is currently looking for a company to build the barn on the lot, along with companies to provide the cement for the foundations of each building. The lodge will have a large variety of brand sponsors that donate items and eco material sponsors for the construction of the building. It will be built completely from material and monitory donations.

Toyota Eco Youth sees big projects

22nd September, 2014

SHAH ALAM: Collaboration for change is the key theme in this years Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) challenge, an environmental competition among secondary schools.

Initiated in 2001, the nationwide competition involving sixteen schools required participating teams to seek environmental problems in their community and find solutions for them.

In their 12th year this year, the TEY programme is one of the key CSR pillars of UMW Toyota Motor.

One of the key elements of the eco-challenge is the Toyotas 8-step Problem Solving Methodology, which provides clear guidelines on how to identify a problem, find possible solutions and monitor the situation to ensure it works.

Initially targeting the environmental problems in school, TEY was extended to include environmental problems in the local community in 2011.

Environmental awareness remains low among most Malaysians, mainly because most people feel problems such as littering, erosion, clogged drains, polluted riverways and others are the responsibilities of the municipal councils.

Instead of waiting and complaining, the TEY drives students to take proactive steps in seeking out solutions for their community.

During the onsite judging, the TEY committee was pleasantly surprised to find participating schools taking on relatively big projects such as transforming a contaminated back street in Machang, Kelantan into an Art Street.

Previously a filthy, rat-infested zone, Lorong Che Mek Molek is now a tourist attraction after the students from SMK Hamzah 2 gave the drainage system and pathway a complete overhaul and painted it with colourful murals.

MARKET REPORT: Eco City puts brakes on its shares

By Geoff Foster for the Daily Mail

Published: 15:58 EST, 19 September 2014 | Updated: 15:58 EST, 19 September 2014

Shares of the London-based developer and supplier of the 40,000 customised six-seater Mercedes-Benz Vito van were suspended at the companys own request, at a rock bottom 0.32p, after the firm admitted that its 76.6 per cent-owned subsidiary One80 intended to appoint an administrator.

The news heightened fears about Ecos financial position as One80 owns the intellectual property rights to the rear-wheel steer technology and other design rights used on the Mercedes Vito taxi, which helps it comply with stringent people carrier rules laid down by the Public Carriage Office.

Hazard warning lights have been flashing at Eco City for weeks, if not months. Its shares have reversed off a cliff and are down more than 80 per cent this year. They peaked at 8p in 2008. Only last month the board admitted to a funding crunch and said it had launched a strategic review that could call in to question the companys very survival.

New Vito taxi sales have slumped and its share of the new London licensed taxi market has suffered as a result.

Back in May 2013 its share of the market stood at 40 per cent-plus as it took business away from the iconic Black Cab manufacturer Manganese Bronze, which went into administration before being bought by Geely, the Chinese carmaker.

Eco City has also been hit by the emergence of the smartphone cab-booking app, Uber. The spread of Uber across the world caused a wave of protests from London cabbies who complained that the US firm was undercutting them and allowing potentially unlicensed cab drivers to take trade.

London mayor Boris Johnson also upset the apple cart by introducing rules this year that all new taxis in London should be capable of emitting zero emissions from 2018. Eco City continues to experience challenging trading conditions requiring it to seek additional funding. It is in negotiations with a potential backer that may or may not lead to additional funds, which will help it remain on the road. Former cabbie, founder and major 11.4 per cent shareholder Peter DaCosta, will be hoping that lighted For Hire signs on Vitos will not be lost for ever.

Kia creates eco-karma with electric Soul

Antuan Goodwin/CNET

The first things that you notice about any electric vehicle is just how quietly they move as well as the seemingly effortless acceleration. The Kia Soul EV is no exception. With a zero-to-60 time of about 12 seconds and a top speed of 90 mph, the Kia isn't mind-bogglingly fast, but something about the lack of powertrain noise or vibration and the delivery of torque without interruptions for gear changes makes the EV feel more nimble than the numbers imply.

So how about those numbers? The 2015 Kia Soul is powered by an 81.4 kW AC synchronous permanent magnet motor that outputs a stated 109 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. Like all full-electrics, the Soul EV's party trick is that it is able to deliver all 210 pound-feet of that torque from a dead stop, which makes it feel more responsive than a gasoline-powered engine of similar spec, simply because you never have to wait for it to build engine revs and power.

Kia tells me that the Soul's motor uses multilayer magnets to boost efficiency and reduce the engine whine, but it would probably take back-to-back rides to tell if the electric Kia was actually any quieter than the Ford Focus Electric or the Nissan Leaf. Suffice it to say that the Soul EV was extremely quiet during my testing at both city and highway speeds. At speeds below 12 mph or when reversing, the Soul gets a bit artificially noisy, thanks to an audible Pedestrian Warning System that softly beeps to announce the vehicle's presence.

The Soul EV gains about 300 pounds over its gasoline-powered sibling, but also gains about 60 pound-feet of instantly accessible torque. Antuan Goodwin/CNET

Despite weighing in at 302 pounds more than the gasoline-powered variant, the electric Soul surprisingly felt more planted. This is possibly due to the lack of weight transfer that comes with the interruption of power between gear changes -- because the Soul EV uses a single-speed transmission between the motor and the front wheels -- and possibly due to the 620-pound battery pack mounted under the floor, lowering the tall, compact crossover's center of gravity.

The Soul EV's suspension has been updated to compensate for the increased weight and altered weight distribution of the EV powertrain.

The flat 27 kWh battery pack is composed of lithium polymer cells and affords the Soul EV a stated range of about 93 mile from a full charge. During my testing, I was pretty spot on with the automaker's estimate, finishing up my approximately 40 mile trip with 56 percent of the battery's reserve remaining and the trip computer estimating a range of 56 miles more.

The 40 miles of my test took me through the suburbs of Palo Alto, up to highway speeds, and onto a nice and twisty bit of road as we made our way across the San Francisco peninsula to the coast. I tested the Soul's top speed of 90 mph and I hustled the EV up a steep and twisty road through the Santa Cruz mountains -- I basically drove like an auto journalist. This wasn't 40 miles of hyper-miling, so the Soul's ability to deliver on its advertised range was even more impressive.

I didn't take it easy on the Soul EV during my short test, but it delivered on the promised range. Antuan Goodwin/CNET

When at the eco-village (First part)

PRESERVING the heritage of the country and to alleviate poverty in the Philippines, one community at a time, is mission of the Green Initiative.

Excitement got into me when I was invited to come along to IbaZambales, one of the communities Green Initiative is supporting.

In 1991, when the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo happened, Gina Lopez, Geny Lopez daughter, and Foundation co-chair relocated about 50 families there.

Together with the Abs-Cbn Foundation team, we're set to try along the Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) in order for us to test and see on how could this be of great use to the community.

I always love trying new adventures! I've been hearing a lot of great things about the Eco-Village in Iba Zambales and so with no hesitation the journey begun!

We left Manila at around 6:30 a.m. Upon our arrival at Iba, Zambales, two rivers welcomed us Tambak River and Bancal River where we would be doing our Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) adventure!

We entered the Mango Grove in Bancal River where the Eco-Village is, organic vegetables welcomed us for lunch! Your vegan writer is very joyful while eating then. Coupled with a unique prayer with actions thanking God for everything he has done for us led by Larry Pangan, the Eco-Village in charge and a former priest, I was truly fascinated! Such a great place to be in, the warm welcome, the food, the scenery---the fresh air, trees and just a few steps away a sight to behold is Bancal River.

You could book your stay at Eco-Village for just P500 per night! It's a great way to spend quality time with your family and friends, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy life. You could contact Larry Pangan at 0915-575-1999.

Jose "Tono" Antonio Legarda, our Stand Up Paddle Board Coach, decided to start the briefing at 2 p.m. We are all eager to try SUP since it allows you to enjoy the wonders of nature plus it's a full body workout as well! We unloaded all the equipment (boards, paddles, leashes) from the vehicle. After unloading the equipment, he started the briefing that focused on the following topics - setting up the equipment properly, explaining the use of the equipment, equipment maintenance, safety guidelines.

After this initial part of the briefing, we all moved and carried the equipment near the edge of the river. At this point, he started the second part of the briefing on "Paddling Technique."

Women entrepreneurs emerging the key link in MNCs supply chain in India

Marriott India and Walmart encourage them to get a WEConnect certification

September 15, 2014:

The case for supplier diversity has been championed in the US and other developed economies overtwo decades. In India, the awareness around women-owned businesses and their importance to the eco-system has grown gradually.

Large MNCs in India customising their global supplier diversity initiatives to the Indian landscape have proved catalysts. At WEConnect Internationals annual conference Think Big in Bangalore recently, the presence of representatives from corporate names like Accenture, Walmart and Marriott India made a statement. Since the first Think Big event last year, WEConnect has some concrete achievements to report.

Weve been able to get some large corporations in India to analyse their existing supplier database so that the women-owned businesses supplying them get WEConnect certified. Many of them have begun asking Are you a woman-owned business? in their RFP process. They work with their internal teams to build a business case for supplier diversity, says Sucharita Eashwar, India Head, WeConnect International.

The named corporations and others have taken the lead in making a business case within their organisations for women entrepreneurs to be introduced into their supply chain.

Marriot Hotels India has been a part of WeConnect for 2-3 years. Bharanidharan Ramaswamy, Director of Procurement India, Marriott Hotels India, shares We have an active database of women entrepreneurs who we are currently partnered with, as well as access to other databases that help us to identify prospective women entrepreneurs, with the endeavour to use them as far as possible. Marriott promotes gender diversity as a part of its core culture and supplier diversity is indeed an integral part of it.

E-commerce platform

Walmart wants to incrementally increase the number of women-owned businesses in its supply chain. Rajneesh Kumar, Vice-President - Corporate Affairs, Walmart India shares, There is huge commitment from our leadership We want to source $20 billion from women-owned businesses for our US business by the end of 2016. We would like to double what we source from women-owned businesses for our international markets by the end of 2016. We will also launch a dedicated e-commerce platform called Empowering Women Together on Walmart.com to give small women-owned businesses access to our customers.

Both Marriott India and Walmart encourage women-owned businesses in their supply chain to get a WEConnect certification. While interacting with them, we explain to them the benefits of the WEConnect platform such as networking with other women entrepreneurs, access to large corporations and trainings offered by WEConnect, says Ramaswamy.
