A new compendium about the cyborg film franchise RoboCop is out this week, and Hero Complex readers get an exclusive sneak peek at some images from the book.

RoboCop: The Definitive History, from Titan Books, includes stills and behind-the-scenes images, concept art, storyboards, script extracts and new interviews.

The 224-page hardcover is penned by British writer and documentary filmmaker CalumWaddell (Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever). The illustrated history chronicles the making of Paul Verhoevens1987 sci-fi classic as well as its sequels, TV spinoffs and this years reboot from Brazilian filmmaker Jos Padilha.

The film franchise follows Alex Murphy played by Peter Weller in the 1987 film and Joel Kinnamanin the 2014 remake a cop who dies in the line of duty only to wake up as a part-man, part-robot police officer tasked with cleaning up a crime-ridden, dystopian Detroit. Verhoevens satiric film, which earned two Oscar nominations, was underscored by political commentary and made waves for its over-the-top violence and gore.

The morality thats endemic to the movie is hard to replicate, Weller said at a 2012 screening of the film. It makes you laugh and cry and moves you, and its hysterical and horrible and all those unbelievable things at once.

The 2014 reimagining, which incorporated drone politics and Padilhas documentary filmmaking sensibility, was met with mixed reviews but earned more than $240 million at the worldwide box office.

Once you have a superhero movie that is not based on the fact that kids want to be that superhero, then the movie has to rely on other things, Padilha told Hero Complex last year. What RoboCop did, the original one, was to rely on politics, social and ethical, and very, very interesting aesthetic decisions about violence and how violence is portrayed in the movie. And we kind of did the same thing, because actually you cannot do something different with it because its the nature of the character. Not even Alex Murphy wants to be RoboCop in the first movie. So once you have a character like that, its not the same thing as Iron Man. Its a different approach altogether.

Ten women have tried; 10 women have failed. Ronda Rousey is, with very little doubt, the best female fighter on the planet.

All doubt would cease to exist entirely if not for, you know,her.

Ifshe didn't exist, Rousey's eight armbars and two TKO victories would be plenty of reason to permanently carve her name in the record books under "best ever."

No, I'm not talking about Cat Zingano. She's all but booked her New Year's weekend ticket to Las Vegas for her UFC 182 bout with the champion, but she may as well not pay for the extra carry-on now since she won't be bringing back 20 pounds of UFC gold with her.Zingano's had a knack for starting slow inside of the Octagon; Rousey's had a knack for starting fast. Like, "you've maybe got three minutes so show me what you've got" fast.

Then there's Holly Holm. Should she get past the sacrificial lamb at UFC 181 in December, she's bound to earn a title shot with the queen. But Rousey's not dumb; she'll have no part of Holm's strikes. And let's be real, if Rousey wants no part of the standup, she'll have no part of the standup. So, no, we're not talking about Holm here, either.

It also doesn't look like Gina Carano's ready to trade her silver-screen paychecks to start doing her own stunts in the UFC. Even if Dana White did manage to add enough zeros to Carano's big payday, there's no reason to assume she'd be competitive after a five- or six-year absence from fighting.

All right, let's be honest here, you probably already guessed that I was talking about Cris "Cyborg" Justino. Her invincible aura may have come undone after she dropped her first boutkickboxing or MMAin almost 10 years, but there's still a big portion of the MMA community that wants to see her step into the cage with the UFC superstar.

Cyborg once claimed that she was physically unable to make the cut to 135 pounds, meaning a bout with Rousey would only ever be able to take place outside of the bantamweight confines. But the champion took a firm stance, essentially forcing Cyborg to make the cut to 135 or lose hope of any potential fight for her crown.

"I really wanna fight Ronda," she said onThe MMA Hourin August 2012"I really want to. She says bad things about me. I never say bad things about my opponent. I want to do my best in the octagon, and if she says she wants to fight me, she can come to my weight or at 140."

Ray Fisher: Meet DC's 'Cyborg'

Nobody told Ray Fisher the plan. The 27-year-old had no idea he was set to explode into Hollywood movie stardom, top-lining as the title character in a Cyborg movie set for release in 2020. In fact, producers called the New Jersey-born theater actor on Oct. 15 with the heads-up only hours before Warner Bros. publicly revealed its slate of mega-budget superhero movies tied to the DC Cinematic UniverseWonder Woman, The Justice League, Suicide Squad, and Shazam among them.

I didnt know the extent to which DC and WB had planned on taking my character, says Fisher, who was hired in March to cameo as Cyborg in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. When I signed on, I just wanted to be part of this world. But that specific information, I found out then and there. I didnt think Id be getting my own stand-alone film.

Now, Fisher ranks as the first African-American to score a non-ensemble superhero flick since Will Smiths booze-swilling screw-up vigilante Hancock in 2008. Not bad for a classically trained actor and veteran of the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey with precisely zero feature film roles to his credit.

After packing on nearly 20 pounds of muscleswelling from a relatively svelte 193 pounds to a ripped 212to portray Muhammad Ali in the off-Broadway play Fetch Clay, Make Man last year, the 6-foot-4 Fisher began generating industry interest.

Once we were in previews, Ang Lee came to see the show, he says. One of his next projects is a 3-D boxing movie about Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. So hes scouting for people to play Ali in this film. Ang and I meetto talk about his ideas for the project and its all very interesting. Waiting to see where everything goes with that.

Soon, a fleet of managers, agents and Hollywood casting executives were making the trip to downtown Manhattans New York Theatre Workshop to catch Fishers performances. And prior to landing the part of an existentially conflicted half-man/half-machine bristling with high-tech weaponry (Cyborg will also turn up in two Justice League movies), Fisher gained traction as a serious contender to star in Star Wars Episode VII.

Im a long-game player and didnt see any of this happening until at least my 40s, Fisher says. Its a huge honor, but a bit of pressure comes along with it. My mind is just boggled right now.

In July, the actor wrapped shooting his part for Batman v Superman, scheduled for release in March 25, 2016. He remains tight-lipped about plot-points and potential spoilers but confirmed meeting certain super-friends on set: Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Ben Affleck (Batman). Fisher also bonded with fellow New Jersey-ite Jesse Eisenberg, who portrays super villain Lex Luthor in the movie.

I met everyone in the Justice League except Henry Cavill and Ezra Miller, Fisher says of the actors who respectively portray Superman and the Flash within the DC Cinematic Universe. It was surreal. You get this idea of going to work on a Hollywood set as being really stressful and nerve-wracking. But it blew that stereotype away. If they did have stressful times, it wasnt while I was there.

So what can fans expect from Zack Snyder? Hes the director, after all, who famously proclaimed in 2009: Were killing the comic-book movie, were ending it.

With the cat thoroughly out of the bag for Warner Bros. and DC Comics upcoming slate of Justice League films, getting their shared universe off the ground in a matter of years, it appears the veil of silence surrounding the actors cast is beginning to lift. Just as Jason Momoa has offered his first comments on playing Aquaman, Ray Fisher long-reported to have landed the role of Vic Stone a.k.a. Cyborg has finally offered some insight into his own casting. Including his impressions from the set of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In an interview with EW, Fisher claims that he was just as surprised as the fans when DC and WB rolled out their full movie schedule. While the actor had jumped at the chance to cameo in Zack Snyders Batman V Superman and cross his fingers for what the future may hold the reveal of not just two Justice League movies but a solo film of his own in 2020 - was news to him:

I didnt know the extent to which DC and WB had planned on taking my character. When I signed on, I just wanted to be part of this world. But that specific information, I found out then and there. I didnt think Id be getting my own stand-alone film.

Its not hard to grasp why the young actor (having recently bulked up to portray Muhammad Ali on stage) was taken aback, suddenly playing a pivotal role (if Henry Cavills thoughts on Cyborg are anything to go by) in not just the blockbuster Justice League universe, but meeting with director Ang Lee for another boxing role. But for the foreseeable future, its a role as Cyborg that has the New Jersey-born actor counting his blessings.

Even though Fishers role as Stone in Dawn of Justice has already been completed (having been filmed back in July), it was only days ago that his involvement was made public. But having already worked or met with Zack Snyders Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Fishers description of the set should be encouraging for fans:

WB's Cyborg, Ray Fisher, Promises 'A Hell of a Treat' in Store for DC Comics Fans

Primarily known for his stage work, Ray Fisher was cast earlier this year as Victor Stone, the character who becomes the DC Comics superhero Cyborg. Now, in an interview with EW, Fisher confirms that he'll be appearing not only in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice but, as has been long suspected, in both halves of Zack Snyder's Justice League before getting his own solo film in 2020.

"I didn't know the extent to which DC and WB had planned on taking my character," Fisher tells the outlet. "When I signed on, I just wanted to be part of this world. But that specific information, I found out then and there. I didn't think I'd be getting my own stand-alone film... Let me tell you, man, people are in for a hell of a treat."

Cyborg made his first appearance in 1980's "DC Comics Presents" #26. In the "New 52" continuity, he's a high school athlete who, after getting caught in a S.T.A.R. Labs explosion, is given powerful bionic abilities that lead to him becoming a founding member of the Justice League.

Fisher also adds that he's already met (although has not necessarily filmed alongside) fellow JLA members Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) along with Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's resident supervillain, Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

Also set to star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Scoot McNairy, Jena Malone and Tao Okamoto, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

Ray Fisher Didnt Know About Cyborg Solo Movie; Already Finished Batman v Superman Role

Besides the fans, the biggest winners of the recent DC Warner Bros. announcement were Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher. With a simple press release, each went from up and coming actor to movie star with their own franchise. Momoa, wholl play Aquaman, is obviously thrilled. We have yet to hear from Miller, who playsThe Flash. Now Cyborgs alter-ego, Ray Fisher, has spoken out.

The actor, best known for his work on Broadway, told Entertainment Weekly he had no idea DC was planning a Cyborg solo movie when he first signed onto play the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In fact, producers didnt tell him of the plan until hours before the official announcement was made. He also confirmed hes long since finished shooting his part in Snyders film and met several other members of the Justice League. That could give a hint as to what the role actually is in the film.
