One name momentarily dislodged the grins on the faces of some of Ronda Rouseys friends, family members and teammates after UFC 184.

The mention of Cristaine Cyborg Justino at the post-fight press conference elicited groans from the Rousey contingent. UFC President Dana White drowned them out along with the possibility of a bout between the two best female fighters happening any time soon.

The thing with Cyborg is making that weight, White said. I just dont know if she can make the weight. If she could make the weight a couple times, wed see what we could do.

Cyborg established herself as the greatest female fighter in the world at 145 pounds before Rousey broke into the UFC and far surpassed her perception- and visibility-wise as a dominant champion at 135 pounds.

Given the twos war of words over the years, Cyborg is the only fighter Rousey hasnt fought who could provoke a negative reaction from the champions camp. Shes also the only fighter left who wouldnt be a colossal underdog against Rousey.

Is Cristiane 'Cyborg' Justino signed to Zuffa? Dana White says to ask Lorenzo Fertitta

Ronda Rousey

LOS ANGELES When it comes to Cristiane Justinos relationship with UFC parent Zuffa, the promotions chairman and CEO apparently is the guy to ask.

UFC President Dana White repeatedly dodged questions about Cyborg Justinos status with the fight promotion at the press conference for tonights UFC 184, saying he didnt know whether she has struck a deal for an eventual showdown with womens bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey.

Call Lorenzo on Monday, White told MMAjunkie after a marked pause. Talk to him.

Fertitta recently told ESPN that UFC executives assisted Justino (13-1) in negotiating a new Invicta FC contract and that the deal did not include a financial investment for her fights in the all-female promotion.

However, a source close to Justinos camp, who asked to remain anonymous as he was not publicly authorized to discuss the deal, said the Invicta featherweight champs contract is with Zuffa.

Zuffa currently acts as Invicta FCs broadcast partner, streaming events via its online network.

Any deal between Justino and the industry-leader would, of course, be in service of a future fight with Rousey (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC), whose ranks of logical title challengers has thinned in the two years shes held the UFC belt. On Saturday, she submitted Cat Zingano (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in 14 seconds in UFC 184s headliner.

But White stressed Justino, who on Friday defended her belt with a 46-second TKO of Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 12, needs to make weight at bantamweight before she even becomes a part of the title conversation for Rousey.

Its a serious weight issue here, he said. Thats the issue. If Cyborg fought last night and she was 135 pounds, yeah, wed be talking about this right now.

Cris Cyborg Justino A Step Closer To UFC, Ronda Rousey

Women's MMA vet Cris "Cyborg" Justino knocked out Charmaine Tweet in just 46 seconds Friday night (Feb. 27), while defending her Invicta FC title.

Thanks to the dominating win, MMA media believe the 26-year-old fighter is one step closer to take on UFC star/champ Ronda Rousey. It wasthesixth first-round knockout of hercareer, and first fight since July 2013, due to Invicta promotional issues and an ankle injury.

"I'm so happy to come back as the champion. I will be in the UFC soon," the Brazilian said.

According to ESPN.com, Cyborg extended her contract with Invicta in January. UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, who was in attendance Friday, said his promotion was involved in the negotiation of Justino's contract extension, though her fight purses are paid for by Invicta.

Furthermore, the UFC and Invicta have a strong business relationship, as Invicta's events air exclusively on Fight Pass, the UFC's Internet subscription service.

With this knockout under her belt, Cyborg is expected to try to cut to 135 pounds by the end of the year, fight for the vacant Invicta bantamweight title... and, if all goes well, make her UFC debut with a title on the line.

"For my team, my fans and my family, I will try my best, 100 percent, to make 135 pounds," Justino said.

Invicta FC 11 results: 'Cyborg' Justino destroys Charmaine Tweet in 46 seconds

Cristiane Justino

LOS ANGELES It tookCharmaine Tweet mere seconds before she discovered the sheer force of Invicta FC womens featherweight champ Cristiane Justino.

A pair of punches stopped her dead in her tracks when the two first collided in the headliner of tonights Invicta FC 11. It would not, however, be the last reminder.

As UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and President Dana White watched cageside, Justino landed another pair of hooks, and then another, and another, until Tweet was lying on the canvas, bleeding badly from her nose, wearing a grimace of pain. Tweet managed to stand up, but another shot to the face and body, and referee Herb Dean had seen enough.

It was all over in 46 seconds.

Invicta FC 11 took place at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The events card streamedlive on UFC Fight Pass.

Justino (13-1) has now madethe first defense of her Invicta FC title and won three straight under the promotionsbanner, though her future likely is in the UFC, where a highly anticipated showdown with rival and womens bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey awaits. Rousey, of course, must also get past No. 1 contender Cat Zingano at Saturdays UFC 184.

Grasso stays unbeaten

In the nights co-headliner, the highly touted Alexa Grassos handspeed and head movement were on full display against the aggressive Mizuki Inoue, who looked to close the distance and rough up her undefeated opponent with heavy punches. Grasso put together combinations that scored, and she showed flashes of brilliance with a spinning back kick right to the chops. Some of Inoues punches found their mark, however, and Inoues tenaciousness was only encumbered by a nose that bled generously. Grasss left cheekbone bore the evidence of Inoues work.

Grasso upped the pace in the second frame and outlanded her opponent despite more right hands finding their mark. Inoue nabbed a quick takedown in an effort to even the score, only to find Grasso set up an armbar and then a triangle from her back.

Biggest weekend ever for women's MMA?

In this Feb. 22, 2014 photo, Ronda Rousey prepares for a UFC 170 mixed martial arts women's bantamweight title fight against Sara McMann in Las Vegas. Rousey is constructing her escape hatch out of mixed martial arts, even if shes not planning to use it just yet. The UFC bantamweight champion has turned her celebrity and charisma into a budding career as an action film star. Many MMA fighters dream about it, but Rousey is actually doing it: With upcoming parts in The Expendables 3, the newest Fast and Furious chapter and the Entourage movie, shes seeking success outside the cage even while her fighting career is near its peak. Remember when Dana White made the infamous declaration that women will never fight in the UFC?

That was four years ago, and that chomping noise you hear now is White eating his own words.

This might be the biggest showcase weekend for women's MMA ever.

On Friday night, San Diego's Cris "Cyborg" Justino takes on Charmaine Tweet as the headline fight in Invicta 11, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

It's Justino's first fight since July 2013. She was supposed to fight in Invicta 10 last December but had to pull out after an ankle injury. She passed a drug test this week despite recent allegations from Rousey and White accusing her of PED use.

She'll be highly motivated on Friday night because a win could earn her a shot at Rousey, the current UFC women's bantamweight title holder. And after this scathing verbal attack from Rousey in November, you know Cris Cyborg wants to settle this on the mat.

Rousey accuses Cris Cyborg of PED use:

"That girl in my eyes should be charged with attempted negligent homicide... By coming into the cage with performance-enhancing drugs, [it] is the equivalent of walking in there with a weapon. It's not about who hits a ball farther or something like that. The only reason why we're allowed to do MMA is because the human potential of how it is right now, we can say that it's safe. But if you keep putting PEDs [in] people, it's going to become less and less safe."

However, Cyborg's Friday night Invicta fight is really just an appetizer for the long-anticipated Rousey vs. Cat Zingano matchup in UFC 184 on Saturday night at the Staples Center.

Supergirl Series Casts Cyborg Superman and Alex Danvers

CBS and DC Entertainment have announced two more have joined the cast of their upcoming Supergirlseries with Homeland star David Harewood as Hank Henshaw andChyler Leigh as Alexandra Alex Danvers.

Henshaw, as comic fans know, will go on to become the villain Cyborg Superman, but in the series he is described as A onetime CIA agent, whonow runs the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), which tracks extraterrestrial threats on the planet Earth.

Alex will be Karas foster sister on the show, described as fascinated by Karas powers from a young age, Alex developed a lifelong obsession with science which inspired her to become a doctor.

In addition, Arrow and The Flash executive producer/writer Andrew Kreisberg has signed on to executive produce the series, which will no doubt rekindle the crossover buzz between Supergirl and The CW shows.

The two join as cast that includesMelissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El,Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as KarasKryptonian mother Alura Zor-El, and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant.

Hailing from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions (who also produce the hit DC Comics series Arrow and The Flash for The CW), Supergirl is based on the characters from DC Comics and centers on Kara Zor-El, who comes to Earth after escaping the destruction of Krypton. After many years hiding her abilities, she joins the ranks of her cousin Superman to become the hero she was meant to be.

The pilot episode was written by Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash). They will also executive produce along with Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros. TV. The show has a series commitment at CBS.

Supergirl Casts Cyborg Superman; Flash Showrunner Joins Series

The supporting cast of CBS upcomingSupergirl series has swelled by two, with the roles of star Kara Zor-Els (Melissa Benoist) older sister, and the former CIA operative-turned-superhuman watchdog Hank Henshaw now filled.

For the part of Alexandra Danvers, Karas foster sister, the producers have tapped Chyler Keigh (Greys Anatomy). In the case of Hank Henshaw, it seems David Harewood (Homeland) will be playing the brilliant man who, in the comics, would eventually go on to become the tragic figure/half-robotic supervillain aptly named Cyborg Superman.

The casting news comes courtesy of THR, with Chyler Leigh likely best known to audiences for playing Lexie Grey, half-sister toGreys Anatomysmain character. Leigh was more recently seen in the unofficially-cancelledTaxi Brooklyn on NBC, playing a police officer who joins forces with a New York cab driver.

Adding the character of Alex Danvers to theSupergirl story marks one of the most significant changes to the comic book origin and likely one way which the show will seek to tap into the family drama thats proven so successful inThe Flash. However, Alex wont just be helping to humanize the Supergirl story, as the previous character details implied that her brilliance and familiarity with superhuman activity could end up leading her to a (highly secretive) government job.

The casting that will surely fuel even more conversation among comic book fans, though, will be that of Harewood. Previously seen onHomeland and the recently-cancelledSelfie, Harewoods casting as another high-ranking government agent who plays things close to his vest isnt surprising in the least. InSupergirl, hell by playing Hank Henshaw: a former CIA Agent now overseeing the Department of Extra-Normal Operations, and fulfilling the need to have some shadowy government figure who feels a superpowered vigilante is a threat to national security.

Thats not the mostoriginal character description, but its what lies in Henshaws future that will be getting fans excited. Originally introduced in the comics as a doomed astronaut, Henshaw was able to preserve his consciousness in digital form, eventually viewing Superman as his enemy, and constructing a robotic body including residual DNA of the Man of Steel. Ever since, the hard-to-kill Henshaw has kept a tenuous grip on his sanity, meaning an overall paranoia toward Kryptonians is well-founded.

Its unlikely that such a story will be pursued in the short term, but then again, executive producer Greg Berlantis team didnt delay too many twists inThe Flashs first season. Weve known for some time thatSupergirl would augment its own character pool with established Superman foes (and even include appearances from Superman himself), so add Henshaw to the villains-in-waiting category.
