UK online gambling restrictions are proving easier to impose than enforce, as online casinos prove where theres a will, theres a wager.

In April, UK-licensed online gambling operators were prohibited from allowing customers to fund their accounts with credit cards. Now gambling charities are sounding the alarm about online gambling sites offering customers alternative means of accessing credit-based play.

A Google search of gambling pay-by-phone produces a wide variety of affiliate marketing sites offering lists of UK-facing although not necessarily UK-licensed online casinos that allow customers to fund their play through pay-by-phone services such as Boku and Payforit.

Heres how it works; customers choose how much they want to deposit with the gambling site and provide their phone number, after which they receive a text message with a confirmation code which they then forward to the gambling site. Their online gambling account is credited with the funds and the sum is added to their next mobile phone bill (which can, incidentally, be paid with a credit card).

There are pretty strict limits on how much money these services will allow customers to borrow in this fashion, with a maximum of 40 on any single day and no more than 240m per month. So its unlikely to cause anyone to default on their mortgage, but problem gambling outfits nevertheless view it as (a) a potential straw that breaks the camels back, and (b) an unacceptable fudging of the rules.

A UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) spokesperson told the BBC that the regulator was on the lookout for operators who might try to circumvent the credit card ban (much as they initially tried to get around the new 2 max stake on fixed-odds betting terminals).

However, most of the sites offering this payment option are well beyond the UKGCs sphere of influence, so pressure will likely fall on the payment solution providers, most of which do have UK offices and who will likely quickly roll over rather than risk becoming the UK medias latest gambling whipping boys.

Rock Rapids, Iowa Five Lyon County nonprofit organizations received funds from the Community Foundation of Lyon County recently.

The foundation is an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation. The recently-awarded grants totaled $24,500. Due to the pandemic, a grant presentation did not take place this year.

The dollars granted and distributed are made possible from the annual distribution from the Community Foundation of Lyon Countys Endowment Fund. Since inception in 2006 the CFLC has distributed over $525,000 to local nonprofit organizations that support Lyon County. The foundation is not to be confused with the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation, which also gives grants to nonprofit organizations. The biggest difference is that the Riverboat Foundation gives away a percentage of the profits at Grand Falls Casino. While other community foundations in the state get some gambling money from the state if they are located in a county that doesnt have a gambling entity, Lyon Countys foundation doesnt get this extra money, due to the presence of the casino in the county.

Shayne Mayer, the CFLCs Advisory Board Chair says that the foundation is pleased to support the services of organizations that positively impact the quality of life in Lyon County.

Receiving funds were

The Lyon County Conservation Board, who received $7,200 toward an Environmental Education Classroom;The George Community Daycare, who received $7,000 toward Daycare Furnishings;Destiny Youth Ranch Inc., who received $3,500 toward their Bunk House Improvement Project;The Rapids Theatre Preservation Society, Inc. who received $3,500 toward the south wall foam removal;Kingdom Kids Community Daycare, who received $3,300 toward new flooring.

Lyon County residents can make a donation to the CFLC endowment fund and then their gift will generate grant dollars in perpetuity.
