‘Grey’s Anatomy Season 14’ spoilers: Dr. Robbins deals with another heartbreak – Blasting News

It's the all new "#Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 coming this fall, and Dr. Arizona Robbins (#Jessica Capshaw) still hasn't found the one. Trust everyone to have concluded Dr. Eliza Minnick's (Marika Dominzyck) role in her life as the former's love interest on the show. In the final episode of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13, Eliza got fired hence speculations that it could be the doctor's character exit from the show.

Dr. Eliza Minnick, a certified orthopedic surgeon, arrived at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as a hired consultant by the hospital. She was a great doctor that is never welcomed by the resident doctors of Grey Sloan.

She became Arizona's love interest after she made clear she's interested in women. Despite Eliza's level-headed nature, Arizona was challenged and gave their budding relationship a try.

The show's Season 13 featured all the reason why Dr. Arizona Robbins and Dr. Eliza Minnick are the perfect pair, until the latter received the news that she's fired from the hospital. Surprised by the sudden decision, Robbins can't offer any help to Minnick who is bound to leave the hospital anytime and worse, say goodbye to their relationship.

Arizona Robbins was formerly married to Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez), also an orthopedic surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. During their marriage, Robbins hooked up with another doctor that turned everything upside down.

After their divorce was finalized, Torres character left for New York to pursue a better medical practice, and that's how her character on "Grey's Anatomy Season 12" was let go.

Shortly after leaving the show Sara Ramirez revealed she's bisexual, but that has not changed the fans' eagerness to have her back on the show. In fact, after Eliza Minnick is fired from Grey Sloan, fans are hopeful; it will pave way to the return of Callie Torres character. Show runner Shonda Rhimes has not given any formal statement about the character of Eliza Minnick, nor her firing from the job constitutes to leaving the show.

Meanwhile, ABC has confirmed the return of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 this fall and expect an all new story in the lives of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital doctors. Watch Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and the rest of the cast perk up your Thursdays at 8 PM on the ABC channel. #Grey Anatomy

Carlos Gonzalez: Anatomy of a slump and why Rockies’ slugger thinks he’ll bust out of it – The Denver Post

CINCINNATI Carlos Gonzalez sat at his locker, flashing his bright CarGo smile.

It seemed a bit out of place considering the topic at hand: a hitting slump that began with a 2-for-17 start and remained in place deep into May.

Gonzalez, however, refuses to dwell on his ugly numbers.

When you are going bad, its easy to get negative, but I just dont let myself go there, the three-time all-star right fielder said. You have to remind yourself that you can do damage at any time. And every time you come to the plate, you have to think, Im one step closer to getting hot.

But when the Rockies arrived at Great American Ball Park Friday for a weekend series against the Reds, Gonzalez wasnt even lukewarm. He was hitting .210 with a .279 on-base percentage and just two home runs in 138 at-bats. Though hes hit mostly from the third or fourth spot until getting dropped to fifth in recent games, he had just 11 RBIs to show for it. Thats what happens when you hit .182 with runners in scoring position.

But the Rockies, ever mindful of Gonzalezs ability to break out at any moment, are keeping the faith.

When you have been good for as long as CarGo, you have to believe that after game No. 162, hes going to be hitting .290-something, with 30 homers and 90 RBIs, assistant hitting coach Jeff Salazar said. So CarGo can truthfully tell himself, Im hitting .180 right now, so there is a good chance Im about to hit .340 for the next stretch.

That takes a lot of confidence, trust in yourself and trust in the organization. And trust from the organization, too.

When Gonzalezs swing is on, its one of the prettiest in baseball, drawing comparisons to Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. But when its not, Gonzalez flails at breaking pitches and frequently hits weak grounders to second base.

Gonzalezs strikeouts, contrary to conventional wisdom, dont risesubstantially when hes in a slump. His strikeout rate is 25.4 percent this season, compared to 24.2 percent for his career. He is, after all, a slugger. Perhaps his whiffs are just more noticeable when they arent offset by second-deck moon shots.

Its also a misnomer that Gonzalez always starts in a funk. This is Gonzalezs eighth season with Colorado and hes had really three poor Aprils: 2011 when he hit .228 with one homer; 2015, with a .200 average and two homers; and this season, .216 with two homers.

But in 2012 (.303 average, four homers) and 2013 (.306, five homers), he came out of the gate slugging. Gonzalezs ebbs and flows are more about being in sync at the plate than about the calendar.

Gonzalezs swing is all about timing, and when his timing gets a few ticks off, he gets out of whack.

With CarGo, the leg kick is his timing mechanism, manager Bud Black said. When hes off, hes going to be out way out front on breaking balls and behind on the fastball.

But I see that gap narrowing, where hes becoming on time for both pitches. Youll know hes back when hes on top of fastballs and his hands are sitting back enough to handle the off-speed pitch.

Thats why Black was encouraged to see Gonzalez rip a double down the right-field line Tuesday night in Colorados 7-3 victory at Minnesota.

CarGo hit a low breaking ball, Black said. He was out in front of it, but he stayed back enough to be able to drive it.

A 95 mph fastball takes aboutfour-tenths of a second to travel the 60 feet, 6 inches from the pitchers mound to home plate. At the big-league level, pitch recognition is paramount, and right now, Gonzalezs is still off.

With CarGos swing with the leg kick, the timing there is a lot that can go wrong, Salazar said. When your body moves the wrong way at the wrong time, it can make any pitch look desirable. So its easy to find yourself chasing pitches or becoming vulnerable to other pitches.

That leads to bad habits and the slump deepens.

Thats when you start to tinker with it and start questioning, and then it becomes a mental thing, Salazar continued. Thats when guys will switch batting gloves or do something to break the routine.

Gonzalez is, unquestionably, a streaky hitter.

When youre going good, its easy because you dont think about anything, not even executing, Gonzalez said. Youre just having fun. Youre going 3-for-4 and hitting homers and doubles and making diving plays and its so easy, because you are clean up here.

He pointed to his head when he said up here, knowing that his battle to produce is as much mental and emotional as it is physical.

There is a lot of psychology in baseball, said veteran first baseman Mark Reynolds, whos off to a terrific start, batting .319 with 12 homers and a 1.007 OPS (on-base percentage, plus slugging). Ive been through a lot of slumps before, so I know you have to be able to take a deep breath and know you will come out of it. If you are zero for your last 10 but you get a hit, then youre 1-for-1. Thats the way you have to look at it.

Gonzalez, 31, is in the final year ofa seven-year, $80 million contract. Hes the teams highest-paid player, collecting a $20 million salary, plus $428,571 as the final installment of a $3 million bonus. Hes playing for a new contract and chances are he wont be back with the Rockies in 2018.

But those who know Gonzalez dont think the pressure of a contract year has gotten to him.

I have seen guys in a similar situation and I would expect bad body language or attitude in this situation, Salazar said. Im not getting that from CarGo. Its been a pleasure to see the leader hes been, his work ethic and the way hes communicated through this.

He knows himself better than anybody else, so if he thinks hes about to starting hitting, then I might as well get on the train right now because I believe him.

N/A

New Zealand's own Martin Henderson stars as Dr Nathan Riggs in Grey's Anatomy.

"I could bring a whitebait fritter?" asks Dr Nathan Riggs. With that he disappears.

It was a great opening line from Grey's Anatomy newcomer but he was gone, only to turn up at a housewarming minus the West Coast delicacy.

I watched Grey's Anatomy (TV2, Tuesdays) purely to see how Martin Henderson replaced Dr McDreamy. It was all very strange. As Dr Riggs, he attended the dinner party, sat on the couch, was treated as if he was infectious and received instructions not to date Dr Maggie.

When she suggested dinner, he delivered the line "I'm not ready to date anyone, right now".

READ MORE: *How Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams dominated the BET Awards *Martin Henderson discusses being Grey Anatomy's new McHunky *Sara Ramirez as Dr Callie Torres clocks out of Grey's Anatomy

What Martin is doing on Grey's Anatomy, a series beyond its used by date, is mysterious. Probably he's earning a pay cheque while he sorts his career out.

Meanwhile, can someone freeze a kilo of whitebait and send it to him so he can do something meaningful?

The episode focused on the future of Dr Alex Karev who'd previously attacked Dr Andrew DeLuca. He's slapped on the wrist with a wet admissions ticket and gets assigned to "the clinic", whatever that is.

The highlight of the episode was a patient who's called her tumour Wilma after her ex-husband's mistress. She wants it removed. It could be time for Grey's Anatomy to surgically remove itself.

Have you heard of a target shooter who farms, preaches, reads, drinks and sings tenor in the choir? Country Calendar (TV One, Sundays) had it all when it featured Tracey Peters, who farms somewhere north of Taihape.

Since her husband died 25 years ago, Tracey has run sheep, beef, deer and ponies on her two farms and accomplished enough in her spare hours to fill two lifetimes. Paramount is being chaplain to the army and priest in charge of St Margaret's Anglican Church, Taihape.

There, her flock don't need to be dagged or neutered. They stand on two legs, sing hymns, take communion and wear merino in winter.

Tracey is an intriguing woman. She doesn't pull the wool over your eyes when she talks of filling the day with farming, visiting, preaching and belonging to just about every club listed in the Rangitikei electorate.

Country Calendar remains enjoyable and meaningful because it tells stories about rural people such as Tracey who achieve incredible things. And if her life isn't busy enough, Tracey's represented New Zealand at the Oceania Games in target shooting. When she retires there won't be anyone left of her calibre.

Horror Homes (Prime, Wednesdays) is a misnomer. The programme's not another name for Cowboy Builders where dodgy handymen inflict nightmare repairs on people's properties. These homes are thoroughly liveable. The horror comes from elsewhere.

In the case of a bed and breakfast in Staffordshire, the owners discovered a sink hole close to their front door and land slipping away into the valley below. In London, an elderly woman experienced a tsunami of sewage filling her bath and toilet and flowing around her floors, while heavy trucks ruined Andy and Dawn Drummond's idyllic existence when they trundled to a new subdivision at the end of the cul-de- sac.

While I feel for those people, including the elderly reporter whose home was struck by a maverick bolt of lightning, Horror Homes is an hour of misery. I'd prefer to watch a repeat of Hogan's Heroes.

If you've ever listened to a recorded voice say "your call is important to us" and hung on while the world has moved to another millennium, then Fair Go (TV One, Mondays) has joined you.

They tested out five major businesses. The fastest was Spark which replied in two minutes while KiwiBank took 34 minutes. Fair Go didn't say whether the call was answered in Bombay or the Philippines, although one of the team members had a manila folder.

I applaud them but, to achieve success, they need to try out the call centres for weeks on end until there's an improvement. Wouldn't it be great if a real live voice answered the phone? You'd forget what you rang about.

Hosted by Neil Oliver, Coast NZ (TV One, Mondays) visited the West Coast and Buller. A friend of mine was once described as a plate of collapsed pancakes on jandals and, sure enough, the Punakaiki Rocks, which inspired his looks, were featured.

Neil's team explored Denniston and sought greenstone on the driftwood strewn beaches south of Greymouth. They also discovered a hideaway near Westport where Brian Morgan has been whitebaiting for 65 years.

Brian, could you courier Martin Henderson a kilo so he doesn't fritter his life away?

From Grey’s Anatomy to Giro’s pink jersey – Sport24

Patrick Dempsey (Getty Images)

Alberobello - American actor Patrick Dempsey played a starring role at the Giro d'Italia Friday - when he donned a vintage pink jersey and rode with the peloton for the opening kilometres of the seventh stage at Castrovillari.

Dempsey, who played a doctor in the popular television series Grey's Anatomy, was appearing as a guest of the BMC team, who were celebrating on Thursday after seeing their Swiss rider Silvan Dillier clinch the fifth stage.

Dempsey appeared at the start line of Castrovillari and was also pictured on the riders' podium, where he was asked who his favourite cyclist of all-time was.

"Merckx," replied the 51-year-old American, referring to retired Belgian legend Eddy Merckx - generally considered the greatest stage racer of all time.

Dempsey then hopped on his bike, clipped into his cleats and rode alongside Luxembourg's Bob Jungels - wearing the real pink jersey as race leader - for the opening kilometres of the route which lead to the official start line.

Friday's stage is a 217 km ride from Castrovillari to Albrobello, close to Bari in the 'heel' of Italy's boot.

Mayor’s attorney: Murray’s anatomy disproves sex abuse claim – seattlepi.com

'This is the heart of the allegations, and they are false'

By Daniel DeMay, SeattlePI

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray's attorney said Tuesday that a recent medical exam contradicts claims made about the mayor's anatomy by a man who says Murray sexually abused him as a boy.

Responding to a detailed description offered in the sex abuse lawsuit, Murray's personal attorney Robert Sulkin said Tuesday that a doctor examined Murray and found no evidence of the mole described as being on his scrotum in the lawsuit. Sulkin said the doctor's report also found no evidence that any mole was removed from the area.

"This is game changing," Sulkin said. "This is the heart of the allegations, and they are false. ...

"If you think about it, the accuser provided false information to his own lawyers. ... The case should be dropped."

Mayor's attorney: Murray's anatomy disproves sex abuse claim

A Seattle-area man filed the lawsuit last week claiming Murray had paid him for sex at least 50 times over the course of several years in the 1980s, starting when the man was just 15 years old.

Last Thursday, Murray's personal spokesperson and then his personal attorney both claimed the suit was politically motivated as Murray, a Democrat with a long history in public office, is seeking his second mayoral term this year.

Murray made a statement in person Friday, telling reporters he has no intention of resigning or ending his bid for reelection.

Attorneys for the man bringing the suit issued a statement following Sulkin's news conference, saying Murray's attorney had not responded to offers to depose the man, who went by D.H. in the suit, within the week.

"Instead, the Mayor's team hired their own medical witness to look at the Mayor's private parts and declared that which nobody in the public can verify until long after the election filing deadline of May 19," attorneys wrote in the statement. "We look forward to fighting the merits of this lawsuit in the appropriate venue and exploring the need for an independent medical exam as ordered by the court."

Sulkin said the mayor would submit to such an exam if ordered by a judge.

In the suit, D.H. included specific details about Murray's apartment at the time, his phone number and his genitals.

Specifically, he described a "unique mole" on Murray's scrotum in the complaint.

Sulkin said Tuesday the mole was like the fingerprint of the case.

"This is why it was put in (the suit) and it's false," he said.

In the story first reported by The Seattle Times, two other men were interviewed who had previously made similar claims to those detailed by D.H. in the suit. At the time those claims were made -- 2007 and 2008 -- one man began working on a suit, but his lawyer ultimately dropped the case. The man called various media and other lawmakers (Murray was in the state Senate at the time), but the Times and other media didn't report on the story, according to the Times report.

Sulkin called out the Times for "rushing" the story before giving Murray a chance to debunk the claims.

The anatomy of Harjit Sajjan’s Afghanistan operation apology – Macleans.ca

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan speaks during a conference on foreign affairs in Ottawa on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016. (Sean Kilpatrick/CP)

A day before he backtracked from his false claim that he was the architect of Operation Medusa, one of the biggest and most dangerous missions of the war in Afghanistan, Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan inexplicably and stubbornly stood by them in a correspondence with me. What happened over the last five days might be called the anatomy of an apology.

The controversy stems from an April 18 speech the Minister delivered at Conflict Prevention and Peacekeeping in a Changing World, a conference in New Delhi, India. On my first deployment to Kandahar in 2006, the Minister said, I was the architect of Operation Medusa where we removed 1,500 Taliban fighters off the battlefield and I was proudly on the main assault. It was an odd comment. Though Sajjan was a veteran of the 2006 operation, he was in no way the key planner. That role is typically credited to retired Major General David Fraser, then the commander of the Multinational Brigade for Regional Command South, and the man who organized and led Operation Medusa.

On Monday, April 24, I began hearing from a number of senior military veterans who called Sajjans claim about his role in Medusa an exaggeration and demanded that he correct the record. None of the sources would go on the record because none wanted to question the legitimate bravery Sajjan showed during the 2006 battle and his three tours of duty in Afghanistan. Still, they regarded his comments in India as an inappropriate embellishment of his role. Sajjan had as much to do with designing Medusa as I did with designing NAFTA, one source told me.

What did Sajjan really do in Medusa? Back in 2006, then-Brigadier General Fraser wrote a letter commending Sajjanspersonal bravery in battle. Fraser wrote that Sajjans analysis was so compelling that it drove a number of large scale theatre-resourced efforts, including Operation Medusa that resulted in the defeat of the largest Taliban cell yet identified in Afghanistan, with over 1,500 Taliban killed or captured. So Sajjans bravery as an intelligence officer was never in question. But thats a long way from being the architect of the operation. I contacted Fraser to ask about Sajjans recent claim, but he flat out refused to comment.

On Wednesday, April 26, I wrote to the Department of National Defence and asked why the Minister had called himselfthe architect of Medusa. I do not want to diminish the extraordinary role the Minister played, I wrote. However, I have had feedback from several sources who suggest the use of the term architect is an exaggeration.I can find no citation where the Minister is credited as the architect of Operation Medusa. He was an important member of the team, but no one I spoke to saw him as the architect. That role has been credited to the General, in this case, Fraser. As this was a major military operation with many senior military planners, can you please tell me if it is accurate for the Minister to say he wasthe architect of the operation? Did he plan it? Did he originate the plan? Was he the leader of the operation plan? Was he involved in the planning or did he provide Intel that was then verified and used? Why did the Minister call himself the architect of Medusa?

MORE: Behind the sunglasses: Harjit Sajjans rise to cabinet

I fully expected the Minister to clarify his role, thinking he would repeat what Fraser had written back in 2006that his intelligence had played a key role in the operation. Instead, he avoided the question and tried to skate. Operation Medusa wassuccessful because ofthe leadership, service and sacrificeof many dedicated women and men in the Canadian Armed Forces, Minister Sajjan wrote. I was proud to have served with extraordinary Canadians, US and Afghan soldiers who made Operation Medusa successful.

I immediately wrote back to say that this did not address the fundamental question: Why did the Minister call himself the architect of Medusa? I asked his department to further clarify, but they refused to say anything else. I dont have anything to add beyond what I just sent, the Ministers communications person wrote.

It was odd that they were sticking by the Ministers original statement in India, which was so patently misleading. Medusa involved over 1,000 Canadian soldiers working in a coordinated attack with British and Dutch troops against the Taliban position in Panjwai district. It was a complex, high-level operation led and developed by Fraser and his planning department. Other key planners of Medusa included the highly-respected Lieutenant-Colonel Omer Lavoie, then commander of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment. At the time, Sajjan was a major, nowhere close to the top of the command structure and so nowhere close to being the architect of the operation. Sajjans second claim has a grain of truth to it being on the final assault but he was present like thousands of other soldiers, one source said. But from what I gather, he [was] not engaged in combat. The military personnel I spoke to were clearly furious about the Ministers comment.

As the week wore on, more veterans contacted reporters about the Ministers claim. Suddenly, on Thursday, I got another message from Minister Sajjans office. They had a new, updated statement from the Minister. He was no longer going to try to spin his way out of it. My comments were in no way intended to diminish the role that my fellow soldiers and my superiors played in Operation Medusa, Sajjan wrote. What I should have said was that our military successes are the result of the leadership, service and sacrifice of the many dedicated women and men in the Canadian Forces. I regret that I didnt say this then, but I want to do so now. Operation Medusa wassuccessful because of[the] leadership of General Fraser and the extraordinary team with whom I had the honour of serving.

Within hours of that email landing in my inbox, the brilliant Postmedia reporter Matthew Fisher published a story about the military backlash against Minister and his apology. The controversy erupted immediately.

It remains a mystery as to why the Minister would make the false claim in the first place and even more baffling why, when I asked him to clarify earlier in the week, he decided to stick to it. There is an old saying: Victory has a thousand fathers, defeat is an orphan, one source wrote to me. There were tens of thousands of architects for Medusa in Canada, NATO, Kabul and Kandahar. Dave Fraser was key to it, influenced by those thousands, and he wrote and spoke many complimentary things about all of them. They all of them could and should receive the credit. God knows, they would have received the blame if things had not worked out.

Minister Sajjan did heroic things in the service of Canada during a dangerous period of war. He risked his life. There was simply no need to embellish that. It is a terrible shame that might tarnish his service.

Ruby’s heart condition not an episode of Grey’s Anatomy – Krugersdorp News

Ruby was diagnosed with a rare, yet very destructive disease called Restrictive Cardiomyopathy, 19 months ago, and the doctor only gave her 24 months to live. Time is running out for her.

Most 15-year-old girls want fancy clothes, cute shoes and tickets to their favourite boy bands concert. But Ruby Ballack just wants to live to see her next birthday.

She was diagnosed with a rare, yet very destructive, disease called Restrictive Cardiomyopathy 19 months ago and at that time the doctor only gave her 24 months to live.

Time is running out for Ruby. She recently had a 3,2cm blood clot in her heart. Luckily it has dissolved. Due to poor blood flow in her heart chambers there is a major risk of blood clots forming again. And lets not even mention the three ICU admissions she had in December 2016 alone.

Also read:Hope towers over teens short life expectancy

During a recent visit to the hospital, Ruby was very ill and spent a few days in ICU. Photo: Submitted

Ruby also experiences tremendous pressure on her heart because of the accumulation of fluid in her hearts lining. She has had multiple pericardial taps to remove the fluid, but because it accumulates within weeks, the fluid causes ongoing incredible pressure, shortness of breath and pain.

Recently her chest pains have become severe, her fatigue is unbearable, and her health has deteriorated by the minute. But not all is lost for Ruby. She is still waiting for the life-altering phone call that could save her life.

Ruby is on the transplant list and is waiting for both a heart and lungs. In the past year there have been two possible referrals for matching donors, but due to medical reasons, they did not materialise.

Its exhausting to feel ill all the time, said Ruby. And when moms phone rings late at night, I always think it might be THE phone call that gives me a heart.

Despite everything, Ruby and her family remain positive and hopeful. Wanda, Rubys mom, said she also anticipates the call every day, but knows that someone has to die for her daughter to live. We have family and friends who have lost their precious children and donated their organs to save the lives of others, while experiencing the utmost grief, said Wanda.

Ruby underwent numerous blood tests during the past few weeks and will continue to have her blood drawn to make sure there are no complications. Photo: Submitted.

They are mourning their loss daily and their lives will never be the same again. We are not praying for a donor or for organs we are praying that when a family is approached whos loved one could be a match for Ruby, they will find it in their hearts to say Yes.

She also said that they arent the only family going through the tough trial of waiting for an organ.

More than 4 300 people are on the transplant list, and I know each and every one of them is going through the same hard time as we are. In a good year, only about 515 patients receive their second chance at life.

Rubys veins are even visible through her knuckles due to her illness.

This is why Wanda, like other mothers, is an organ donor. They know that something good can come from someone elses death. One persons organs can save seven lives.

Wanda also stresses that there are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to organ donation. Being an organ donor is completely free. You can be on the organ donor list without paying any monthly fees. Your family wouldnt have to pay for any medical costs if you donate your organs.

There are also other misconceptions when it comes to the process of donating organs when you die. When you are declared brain dead, the doctor will approach your family and inform them that you are an organ donor. They then ask your familys permission to harvest your organs. The ultimate decision stays with them.

Ruby was diagnosed with a rare, yet very destructive disease called Restrictive Cardiomyopathy, 19 months ago, and the doctor only gave her 24 months to live. Time is running out for her.

You can also choose which organs you want to donate and which you want to keep, and it takes only a few minutes to register as an organ donor.

If you are not a registered organ donor yet, please consider becoming one, as you can help save many people like Ruby. You have the power to change the statistics, said Wanda.

Anatomy of the Steelers drafts: Daniel McCullers – Steel City Underground (blog)

Anatomy of the Steelers drafts is an ongoing series leading up to the NFL Draft which examines the successes and failures of past Pittsburghdraft choices.

Todays article focuses on the Steelers 2014 sixth round draft pick, Daniel McCullers.

Easily one of the largest athletes during his time in college, and also now in the pros, McCullers has been playfully called many nicknames, including Big Dan and Shade Tree. The Steelers made waves by selecting the massive defensive tackle, and four-year starter with the Volunteers, in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

McCullers NFL.com Draft Profile is intriguing to look back on:

A big-boned, short-area plugger with some underachiever traits, McCullers has raw tools that could become special if he learns to harness the innate strength in his body and pairs with a DL coach who can refine his mechanics.

But thats not what stands out the most: NFL.com listed McCullers as a projected second/third round pick. Landing him several rounds later was a tremendous value, of course depending on where the Steelers had him on their own draft board.

The need was a great one. The Steelers were still attempting to replace several outstanding defensive linemen. Defensive end Aaron Smith retired early. Casey Hampton played a full career, but his potential suitors hadnt panned out. Pittsburgh was also trying to move on from Brett Keisel (who hadnt re-signed with the team until August of the same year).

While Cameron Heyward was a shining star, several other picks were underwhelming. Nick Williams, Rashon Harris, Thadeus Gibson and Doug Worthington are long forgotten names in Pittsburgh. Thats okay because most of those players were late round flyers. However, a bigger investment was made in the fourth round of 2012 (two seasons earlier) with the selection of nose tackle Alameda Taamu. Taamu was to inherit Hamptons role on the defense but found himself on-and-off of the roster due to off-field issues.

With Stephon Tuitt arriving earlier in the same draft as McCullers, the Steelers could now focus on a traditional defensive tackle. Big Dan would be that pick.

As the compensatory selections started in the sixth round, the New York Jets took WR Quincy Enunwa off the board, while two picks before Pittsburgh was on the clock, the Jets struck again by drafting QB Tajh Boyd. Boyd would later go to camp with the Steelers but never took a preseason snap.

OT Mitchell Van Dyk is another player who would enter a Steelers camp but would get picked following the selection of McCullers. Tight end Rob Blanchflower would be selected shortly around the same time by Pittsburgh (several picks later in the seventh round) while the only other player of note is Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis.

2017 could be the make or break year for McCullers NFL career. McCullers story has yet to be fully written, but he enters the last year of his rookie deal this season, after being passed over for starting roles by former Steeler Steve McLendon and 2016 third round draft pick Javon Hargrave. Big Dan finds himself as more of a situational player (i.e. goal line packages) and a special teams player than an effective every down player. In McCullers defense, Pittsburgh hasnt used a true 3-4 package for more than 1/3 of their defensive plays in years. In a pass happy league, linemen are often removed for defensive backs to cover receivers. This further limits the time McCullers has seen on the field and could make his render his services obsolete in the near future.

Anatomy of a Goal: Nemanja Nikolic’s Game Winner – Massive Report

Welcome to Anatomy of a Goal, where each week we dissect one goal (or near goal) from the previous weeks Columbus Crew SC match.

For Week Six of the 2017 MLS Season, we take a look at Nemanja Nikolics 22nd minute one-timer that gave the Chicago Fire its only goal in a 1-0 win over Crew-SC on Saturday.

Heres a look at the finish from the Fire striker.

Columbus started this match in a new formation: A 4-3-3 with three central midfielders. Without the dynamic wide play of Harrison Afful, Crew SC defended much more narrowly than usual, here providing very little pressure on the Chicago offense.

Crew SC midfielder Wil Trapp and right back Hector Jimenez had just broken up a Bastian Schweinsteiger led attack.

Keep note of the (many) players highlighted. The movement and positioning of these players lead to the Fires game winner. Here, Schweinsteigers pass to Fire winger David Accam is headed back to midfield by Hector Jimenez. Immediately after this ball is played back, and picked up by Fire center-back Joao Meira. All of Chicagos players are in the Black & Gold half.

As soon as Meira picks up the ball, Accam heads out into a wide position, attracting the attention of a following Jimenez and opening up a channel between the fullback and Crew SC center-back Alex Crognale.

What these images will show is this goal is a result of Nikolic doing exactly what he is best at, running the channels. A channel, is any lane of space that exists between two defending players. In this circumstance, the channel that the Chicago goal scorer occupies is in the space between Crew SCs right back, Jimenez, and center-back, Crognale.

Once he receives the ball, Fire midfielder Dax McCarty can immediately see that Nikolic is in the channel created by Jimenez heading out to cover Accam. Here we can see that the Crew SC right back is in a tight spot, with three men to mark. Winger Ethan Finlay went to pressure the ball, leaving Accam, Brandon Vincent, and Nikolic all under the responsibility of Jimenez. Its tough to cast blame in this situation, but both Artur and Trapp stayed in the middle of the pitch rather than covering one of the three men left to the Crew SC right back. If Artur (or even Trapp) had attempted to track Vincent, then perhaps Jimenez has time to check Nikolic before he gets all the way in on goal.

The above image shows the channel between Jimenez and Crognale just after McCarty made his entry pass to Nikolic. In the middle of the balls journey to the Fire striker, this gap is about 12 yards wide. Jimenez has begun to chase Nikolic and Crognale is just now aware of the pass and the run by Chicagos forward.

One second later, the channel is still 10 yards wide. Nikolic;s run beat Jimenez, and Crognale makes a slightly arced run to cut off the strikers angle.

From this second angle, you can see just how much space Nikolic has and how much room Crognale has to cover. Though the Crew center backs route to the ball is direct, he hesitates just long enough that Nikolic is able to get a few steps on him.

Nikolic is now in the Crew SC box and has yet to touch the ball. The Fire striker is in the process of taking his first-touch shot at goal. In this image, pay attention to the positioning of Crognale and Columbus goalkeeper Zack Steffen. Steffen, expecting his center back to cut off the far post, positions himself to protect the near post. Crognale now has to decide if he will attempt to get in front of the ball with a stab, a slide, or if he is able to get his body in front of Nikolic.

Here, you can see just how close Crognale is to the ball and to Nikolic. With the angle he has taken, the Crew SC center back should be able to slide and either clear the ball out before he touches Nikolic, or give fellow center-back Nicolai Naess (who is just to the right out of this image) time to step in front of the Chicago attacker.

Instead of sliding, Crognale decides to stay on his feet. However, the Crew SC center back is neither able to get a foot or his body in front of Nikolics shot.

Nikolics first-touch shot catches Steffen, who is protecting his near post, on the wrong foot. Steffen is able to get a hand on the ball but is ultimately unable to stop the game winner from hitting the back of the net.

In March 2020, Walsh met up with her former co-star Amy Brenneman, who portrayed psychiatrist Turner for all six seasons. Unlike Walsh, Brenneman had a very established career before Private Practice. She was nominated for multiple Emmys for her roles on NYPD Blue and Judging Amy.

Though she has done a number of movies of the years, Brenneman is still best known for her TV work. She starred in the supernatural series The Leftovers from 2014-2017. She also has a lead role in the upcoming Hulu thriller series The Old Man.

Paul Adelstein (far right) portrayed pediatrician Cooper Freedman in Private Practice for all six seasons. Before the series, he was best known for his lead role in the drama Prison Break. Since the show ended, Adelstein has had prominent roles in Scandal and Girlfriends Guide to Divorce. He currently recurs on Chicago P.D.

KaDee Strickland portrayed Charlotte King, the chief of staff at a hospital close to the practice whose role changes throughout the series run. This is still considered her most notable role to date. In addition to scattered film roles, Strickland was a part of the main cast of Secrets and Lies Season 1 and the two-season Hulu drama Shut Eye.

Taye Diggs portrayed internal medicine specialist Sam Bennett for all six seasons of Private Practice. Diggs has a storied career, having gotten his start on Broadway. He has starred in a number of films such as How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Chicago. Diggs has also maintained a strong presence on TV over the years, in shows like Murder in the First, Empire, and All American.

Tim Daly portrayed alternative medicine physician Pete Wilder in the first five seasons of Private Practice. Prior to landing the role, he starred in short-lived series such as The Fugitive and The Nine. He also earned an Emmy nomination for his recurring role in The Sopranos. Daly starred in Madam Secretary throughout its own six-season run.

Caterina Scorsone joined the cast of Private Practice as neurosurgeon Amelia Shepherd in season 3, remaining on the show until its end. Prior to joining, she starred in Canadian series Power Play and Missing. After Private Practice ended, Scorsone came over to Greys Anatomy, where she remains a part of the main cast today.

Audra McDonald portrayed fertility specialist Naomi Bennett on Private Practice for the first four seasons. She turned as a guest in season 6. McDonald, like her on-screen ex-husband, comes from a musical theater background, and some may recognize her from her role as Grace in the 1999 film version of Annie. McDonald currently stars in the legal drama The Good Fight.

Dr. Callie Torres came into our lives dancing it out in her underwear almost a decade ago, and I could not be happier or more proud of her journey, commented creator and showrunner,Shonda Rhimes. Sara Ramirezs performance inspired me as well as millions of fans each week. We wish her the best on her well-deserved time off. I will miss Callie tremendously, but am excited for what the future holds for Sara. She will always have a home at Shondaland.

After her time on Greys Anatomy, Ramirez spent time off-screen working on a Human Rights Campaign to end LGBTQ youth homelessness. She also recorded a single with other broadway stars to benefit the LGBT Center of Central Florida.

In September of 2016, Ramirez hosted a TedTalk for PBS. She also produced her first feature film as a producer, titled Loserville. The film was primarily about lessons they do not teach in high school.

Anatomy of a suddenly sick Obamacare insurer – CBS News

Headlines have been screaming for months about big insurers such as Aetna (AET), United Healthcare (UNH) and Humana (HUM) pulling out of the Obamacare marketplaces because they couldn't make the exchange business profitable. As a result, dozens of counties throughout the country have been left with only one or no insurance choice on their exchange.

Against that backdrop, two smaller insurers that focus primarily on the Medicaid market -- Molina Healthcare (MOH) and Centene (CNC) -- were frequently noted as companies that can successfully navigate the uncertain and complicated exchange business. Many states looked to them and small regional or local insurers to help fill the increasing gaps the big names were leaving behind.

So it came as a bit of shock when Molina announced on Aug. 2 it would exit the exchanges in Wisconsin and Utah, scale back its exchange business in Washington state and leave the door open to pull out of other exchanges in the near future.

What's more, in marketplaces where it will continue to operate, Molina has submitted an average 55 percent premium increase to state regulators, partly due to the uncertainty over the future of federal cost sharing payments.

The news came amid Molina's report of a steep second-quarter earnings loss of $4.10 a share, compared to a 58 cent per share gain during the same period a year earlier. It also followed the ouster in May of Chief Executive Mario Molina and Chief Financial Officer John Molina, brothers who are sons of company founder David Molina. In the earnings report, Molina also announced a major restructuring, which includes about 1,500 layoffs, approximately 7 percent of its workforce.

Until all this bad news broke, Molina was one of the prime examples of an insurer that could actually make the exchanges work. (Centene still does and is expanding its exchange business.) Major insurers like Aetna and United Health, accustomed to the more stable employer-sponsored health insurance market, racked up losses in the exchange business in part because they were surprised by the large number of high-cost patients who signed up.

Molina's business focuseson administering Medicaid health plans for low-income and disabled patients. As a result, the company has experience with managing narrow networks of lower-cost health care providers. "The idea is to arbitrage low-reimbursement providers into exchanges where the competition is paying a lot more," explained Robert Laszewski, president of consulting firm Health Policy and Strategy Associates. "There's an opportunity for profit there."

Molina found it could compete for the no-frills end of the exchange market and enjoy a robust volumne of patient sign-ups. According to Laszewski's estimates, Molina had a track record of enrolling as much as 70 percent of eligible participants in the various markets it participated in. A pool that big offers enough healthy individuals to help stabilize risk, he added.

What went wrong?

According to Joseph White, interim CEO of Molina, the company became overwhelmed with its ACA business, including unexpected increases in medical costs and claims. "We did not adjust for growth in the ACA marketplace," White told analysts in a conference call last week. He explained that the company focused resources on existing processes and technologies instead of a full redesign that would have helped it better deal with ACA growth.

"That was a mistake," said White. "The marketplace shares fundamentals of the Medicaid market, but it's also very different," he added.

In addition, speculated Laszewski, as Molina expanded into new markets and became a more dominant player in others, it may have strayed from its core base of low-income customers, adding costs and risks it couldn't deal with.

"Every company has to analyze every market to make sure they're making money in every market," said Dan Mendelson, chief executive of Avalere Health. Say a plan with bad risk drops out of the market, he added. "You may get saddled with that risk as you pick up those customers."

Molina's bad news leaves exchange consumers with even less choice and more uncertainty than they were already facing in light of failed GOP efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare and the Trump administration's threats to discontinue support for the system.

As commitment deadlines for insurers approach, state insurance commissioners are working hard to convince them to stay in the exchanges and keep at least a bare minimum of coverage. In addition, small, local, often nonprofit players such as L.A. Care Health Plan are trying to fill gaps where they can, while heeding the lessons from Molina's recent mess.

Will these efforts be enough? Consumers may have to wait until open enrollment begins on Nov. 1 to find out.

3 Solid Reasons Fans Believe That ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s Fall Finale Is Setting Up for an Epic ‘Station 19’ Crossover Season Premiere – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

With the fall finale of Greys Anatomy coming fast, fans want to know when they can see all of their favorite characters in the spinoff, Station 19. From the promo for ABCs long-running medical drama fall finale, we can tell that a crossover event is coming.

Station 19 is expected to return for season 3 sometime in January, right around the same time that we can expect Greys Anatomy to return from break. Lets take a look at the three reasons why we know these two premieres will coincide with one another.

The Greys Anatomy Instagram account posted a photo of Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Vic (Barrett Doss) on November 19, 2019, and fans cannot stop talking about it. Most viewers dislike the couple together, but they are even more concerned that Jackson might leave Greys Anatomy.

I like these two together OK, wrote one Instagram user, but what I dont want is to lose another series regular, and it feels like thats where were heading with Jackson. Come on writers, give Jackson a real storyline!

Jacksons turned into a player and lost his authenticity after April, added another fan.

With the falling out between Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Jackson in the last episode of Greys Anatomy, were not quite sure whats left for him at Grey-Sloan Hospital. It looks like the writers might be moving him over exclusively to Station 19.

Fans have two theories about why Ben (Jason George) might be dashing towards the emergency room of the hospital. Lets take a look at what they are.

Its gonna be Bailey [Chandra Wilson], wrote an Instagram user.

I have a feeling too, agreed another fan, especially seeing Ben run in like that.

Maybe shell lose her baby, guessed another viewer.

I think it might be the firefighter that Jackson is dating [Vic], surmised another fan, and Maggie saying this cant be happening because she lost the firefighters boyfriend on the table as well. The viewer continued, and they made it seem as though Ben and that firefighter are close, and thats why hes running?

The comments kept rolling in after fans watched the promo. Viewers are afraid that Bailey is about to lose her baby. Other fans are distraught that Maggie is going to lose a firefighter that is close to Ben and Jackson in some way. One thing is for sure, Ben is back, and something is wrong. He has a troubled, scared look on his face.

In the fall finale promo, fans guess that Jo is holding a baby that was possibly left at Station 19.

Jo seems to be outside with a pretty big baby, wrote one fan, while Ben is running into the hospital (I could be wrong). Maybe it was a baby that was left at the station that they brought to the hospital when Ben got the call that something happened to either Bailey or Tuck?

Could this be the baby that fans are hoping that Jo and Alex (Justin Chambers) eventually adopt? Whatever the truth may be, it is clear that every story arc includes Station 19 for this Greys Anatomy fall finale. Stay tuned to ABC Thursday at 8 p.m. to find out if all of the storylines will coincide with a Station 19 premiere in January.

There is a lot of heartache on ABCs Greys Anatomy. Fans were torn to pieces whenMerediths(Ellen Pompeo) husband, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), tragically died.

Viewers will also never forget the surprising death of Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) love interest, Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). However, there is one death that fans argue is worse than both of those combined. Lets take a look at who it is and why fans are still upset over it.

While fans typically love the drama of the on-again-off-again couples, sometimes viewers want a sweet, down-to-earth couple who makes you feel good. Henry Burton (Scott Foley) andTeddy Altman(Kim Raver) were once this cute, normal couple.

Well, at least it was as normal as you can get for a Greys Anatomy duo. Henry first came to the hospital as a patient with Von-Hippel-Lindau syndrome without insurance, in need of surgery. Teddy tried to appeal to the hospital, but they offered only a temporary fix. Before he left that day, she suggested they get married so he could be on her insurance.

Henry agreed to the marriage and was able to get his surgery. The pair started as friends (who were married for insurance reasons) but slowly became more. Teddy often would go over to Henrys place after terrible dates and spend excessive time with him.

Fans knew she was falling for Henry before Teddy did. During every one of Henrys surgeries, Teddy became very worried, often acting like a wife. She eventually confessed her love to him, and they became a real married couple.

Of course, right when viewers began to get comfortable with this adorable relationship, Henrys health took a turn for the worst.Cristina Yang(Sandra Oh) operated on a tumor near his heart, but when they opened him up, Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) and Yang found there was too much damage. Henry died on the operating table, and Teddy was devastated right along with the fans at home.

Viewers are convinced that Henry was the best thing to ever happen to Teddy. There are not many fans who like Teddy withOwen Hunt(Kevin McKidd). They continually reminisce about Teddys days with Henry.

Teddy and Henry were such a unique but sensible couple, wrote one Reddit user. I really wish he had stayed alive in the show and moved away somewhere with Teddy. I just never could see Teddy and Owen together, even though they were such good friends.

I always ugly cry when Henry dies, added another Henry fan. I loved this couple so much. They were sweet and normal. They just fit together so well.

Henry was so good for Teddy, reasoned one viewer. I wish they hadnt killed him off. It was also so refreshing to have a character who wasnt a surgeon as a love interest.

Viewers quickly turned a love post about this sweet relationship to a hate post towards the writers of Greys Anatomy.

God, I loved Teddy and Henry, added a Redditor. [They are] still my favorite doctor/patient love story. It was believable. They didnt rush into anything. They met and Teddy offered to marry him so that he could use her insurance. Then they became friends, and then slowly fell in love with each other.

His death hit me harder than Dennys, the Redditor continued. Kims acting was so on point back then, but it has just felt flat in these last two seasons. Teddys speech in season 15, about how Owen is the only one who has ever made her feel rage, is so insulting to Henrys memory.

I dont get it, pondered another fan about the writing comment. Krista was showrunner from season 14 on, and in season 14, the show remembers how much Teddy loved Henry and was furious with Owen.

But then in season 15, they try to chalk it up to her being scared, she continues. If they insist on making Towen a thing, then make it believable. Make us believe that Teddy fell out of love with Owen, and then back in love. Not make it seem like she never moved on.

Fans will continue to debate which death on Greys Anatomy was the most tragic. For now, lets agree on poor Henry. Find out who else is on the operating table when Greys Anatomy returns from winter break on Jan. 23, 2020.
