Anatomy of a COVID-19 outbreak: One family visit, 40 cases, 500+ isolating in Chatham-Kent – London Free Press (Blogs)

That household was connected to a gathering where two people tested positive after attending. That led to a close contact who tested positive and then to another household with a positive test.

The church outbreak was linked to a group-living outbreak where a total of five people in two residences tested positive. One household contact of the group-living outbreak tested positive as well.

The church outbreak also was connected to a Chatham blood donor clinic where two people tested positive after attending. The clinic cases were traced to yet another case in a household contact.

These are just the positives, Colby said. The impact on peoples lives are even greater.

The people in isolation included 180 from blood donor clinics in Chatham and Blenheim, 170 from three schools, 50 from church, 10 from group living settings and 25 employees from workplaces.

This affected over 500 people either isolating or positive, Colby said. So, it matters. It has to start somewhere. We were lucky. With a lot of effort, we were able to keep our numbers down to only 40 positives with this outbreak, but look at all this trouble for people.

The church and group-living outbreaks were declared Oct. 21 and 28, respectively. Both were declared over Nov. 18.

This is not a blame game, Colby said. Everybody thats referred to here is a victim, not a cause. But we all have a role to play. It takes a community to stop the spread of COVID-19 and the concerted efforts of a dedicated group of people at the health unit, which Im very proud to work with.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Does the Cast Get Along With Katherine Heigl Now? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Greys Anatomy has seen a lot of characters come and go. Some of the actors and actresses like Sandrah Oh, who played Cristina Yang, are lucky enough to leave on their own accord. While some, like Katherine Heigl, leave under much murkier circumstances. Heigls exit shook fans of the show and she became infamous for being hard to work with. But has the cast of the show forgiven Heigl for her behavior?

Drama with Heigl, who played Isobel Stevens, started when she pulled herself out of the running for an Emmy nomination for her work on Greys.

I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention, she said in a statement. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.

She made her final appearance on the show in Jan. 2010, during the shows sixth season.

At the time of the drama, Heigls character had become a focal point in the series. Izzie Stevens relationship with Alex Karev was one of the main romances on the show so when Heigl left, the writers had to figure out what to do with Karev.

When word comes down that an actor is leaving the show, and what youve got scripted is a wedding, showrunner Krista Vernofftold Variety.

Katies departure changed the course of the Alex-Izzie love story quite abruptly. One of the things about working in television and being a TV writer is you have to be able to pivot. You dont have to love pivoting, but youd better be willing to throw everything out and work through the night on a completely different story at the 11th hour.

Heigl famously feuded with Isaiah Washington, who played Dr. Preston Burke, after she claimed that he had made a homophobic remark toward their co-star T.R. Knight.

When Washington addressed the situation, Heigl famously said that he needed to just not speak in public.

According to Entertainment Tonight, after the incident, Washington wrote an apology and shot a PSA for GLAAD.

Washington recently came for Heigl by tweeting a photo of her, stating This woman once proclaimed that I should never be allowed to speak publicly again. The world agreed with her proclamation back then and protested for my job and my head in 65 languages. I wish I was on Twitter in 2007, because I will NEVER stop exercising my free speech.

So, it doesnt seem as if Washington has let the feud go.

In 2014, show creator Shonda Rhimes also threw a little shade at Heigl while discussing the fact that she would not be allowing any drama to take place on the set ofScandal.

There are no Heigls in this situation, she toldThe Hollywood Reporter of the Scandal cast. I dont put up with bullsh** or nasty people. I dont have time for it.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: The Heartbreaking Scene Between April and Amelia We Never Got – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Greys Anatomy is famous for the dramatic storylines as well as the personal tragedies that many of the characters are forced to endure. The show premiered on television in 2005 and remains one of the biggest shows in the United States, even to this day.

Fans love to chat about the show in various forums online, and recently, a few fans took to Reddit to discuss two characters that they believe should have had a moment to commiserate about their mutual losses.

Greys Anatomy is far from the first medical drama to run on television, but it has become one of the most successful. Over the years, fans have tuned in to watch the residents and staff of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as they navigate the perils of work, romance, and personal fulfillment.

The show has featured a roster of major stars over the years, including Eric Dane and Katherine Heigl, with Ellen Pompeo at the forefront of the series throughout the entire run.

Greys Anatomy has received many awards and accolades, including 38 Emmy Award Nominations and a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series. These days, even though the series has been on the air for a staggering fifteen years, it continues to garner new fans month after month, year after year.

Many of the characters have struck very personal chords with viewers, with one character, in particular, April Kepner, experiencing some seriously troubling times onscreen.

RELATED: Greys Anatomy: Is it Mostly Aprils Fault Her Marriage With Jackson Failed?

Dr. April Kepner, played by the actress Sarah Drew, first appeared on Greys Anatomy in 2009, and for nearly ten years, she was a staple presence on the show. In the early years of Aprils residency at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, she was not exactly a fan-favorite in fact, many viewers took issue with the way that she addressed other doctors and staff.

Still, critics were united in their praise of Sarah Drews performance, and of the way that she was able to portray intensely emotional situations. One of the most dramatic storylines that involved Dr. April Kepner was the one where she becomes pregnant with a baby, whom she named Samuel, who has a terminal birth defect.

Rather than abort the pregnancy, April chooses to give birth to the baby at 24 weeks gestation. The baby ultimately lives only a few hours before he passes away, marking Aprils story with a touch of tragedy in the years that followed.

Another character who had more than one brush with tragedy with Amelia Shepherd, played by the actress Caterina Scorsone. Amelias most disturbing and emotionally affecting storyline was one involving her pregnancy.

In the show, it is discovered that Amelias unborn baby had no brain, leaving her with the terrible choice of what to do ultimately, she donated her unborn babys organs to science.

Fans on Reddit recently discussed the similarities between Amelia Shepherd and April Kepner.

The original poster on the thread posed a question, asking what moments fans would choose to have inserted in the show. One poster was quick to state I would also have loved for April to be able to talk to Amelia about Samuel.

Another fan agreed, stating a scene with Amelia and Jackson talking about losing Samuel and Christopher (Amelias baby)- I think these two dont have a lot of scenes together and it would be interesting for them to bond over something considering they both went through similar loss but from different sides of it.

Although April Kepner has been written off the show since 2018, it is always possible that she could rejoin the cast, making way for this very intriguing and likely very emotional conversation.

Heres when Greys Anatomy, NCIS, Law & Order: SVU return, plus more TV highlights (The Crown, Shame – OregonLive

When everyone seems to be fighting, yelling at each other, and the future is uncertain, the idea of settling in to watch new episodes of familiar TV shows sounds like the entertainment equivalent of putting on your most comfy pajamas and snuggling up in a blanket.

Like everything else, TV schedules have been impacted by the coronavirus, as filming was forced to stop in the spring. That meant that, instead of a wave of returning series coming back to our screens in September and early October, season premieres were delayed because of the slow pace involved in getting shows back into production, and steps required for safety protocols.

Returns and premieres of new shows have generally been more staggered than usual, as some series were able to film before others. But, after several weeks of space-filling fare, including repurposed series from cable (L.A.'s Finest), streaming (Star Trek: Discovery) and imports (Transplant), the networks are finally bringing back some viewer favorites, along with intriguing new offerings.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: The Heartbreaking Episode That Hits Almost Too Close to Home in 2020 – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

The medical drama Greys Anatomy has often been criticized for having an unrealistic portrayal of the medical work that goes on in a hospital.

While the show does demonstrate that the writers research the medical conditions and treatments that appear in each episode, things are often exaggerated to increase the level of drama on the show.

That being said, the character dynamics and emotions expressed on the show are intricate and very human, and when the writers are able to weave together an interesting medical plot with expert characterization and plot crafting, fans and critics alike are eager to dissect and share their responses to the show.

Sometimes, episodes of Greys Anatomy really resonate with something going on in the real world. Greys Anatomy has tackled subjects like abortion, police brutality, and sexual assault.

But in 2020, theres one episode of Greys Anatomy that is especially resonant. So what episode are fans pointing to as especially relevant in 2020? And what makes it hit so close to home?

The show Greys Anatomy is one of the longest running dramas on TV. It centers around the medical staff of a Seattle hospital, their work, and their interpersonal relationships.

The writing of the show has been praised by fans and critics alike, and the show has earned several awards. Its also had an impact on other TV shows and fan culture, from jokes that have spread out from the Greys Anatomy fandom to montage styles that have been copied by other shows. Its clear: the production team of Greys Anatomy created a veritable phenomenon.

And since Greys Anatomy is so huge, it therefore has a thriving fan community. On forum sites like Reddit and fanfiction sites like Archive of Our Own, theGreys Anatomyfandom shares much discussion and transformative work based on this show.

RELATED: Greys Anatomy: 1 of Aprils Best Scenes Was Also 1 of the Most Tragic

In a Reddit on the Greys Anatomy subreddit, fans discussed the season six episode The Time Warp, and how resonant it is in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The episode is structured around various flashbacks that the main characters are having about how they began their medical careers. One physician reminisces about treating a patient with AIDS in the early 1980s, and the fear and uncertainty that came around treating a patient with HIV before much was known about the condition.

Because HIV/AIDS was still relatively uncommon in 1982 and under-researched, the show portrays the doctors as being extremely cautious about contact with the patient for fear to contracting the disease.

One reddit user pointed out there are parallels between the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s and the COVID-19 pandemic today, and that this episode reminded them of this:

I have older nurse friends who say the Covid-PPE in ICUs reminds them of the AIDS-PPE they used in the 80s & 90s. Its been heartbreaking to know of Covid patients dying alone in isolation rooms with no skin-to-skin hand-holding or physical contact in their last moments, suffering the same fate as early AIDS patients. The AIDS crisis changed the way we viewed hospice, perhaps the Covid crisis will change the way we handle isolation and infection control.

This isnt the only way that Greys Anatomy has been relevant in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though the show had to stop filming due to the pandemic, it will likely discuss the pandemic in the upcoming season.

But on top of that, Greys Anatomy, along with a few other popular medical dramas, donated large amounts of PPE to hospitals in need. Because things like N95 masks are used as props, the show had enough that hadnt been used that they were able to donate.

Beyond tackling societal issues in fiction, then, Greys Anatomy became a part of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anatomy of the ‘Hit Machine,’ the greatest duo Emraan Hashmi and KK – The Indian Wire

Forgive me if Im wrong, as I am expressing myself on the behalf of an entire generation of people who grew up listening to Emraan Hashmi songs, most of them which were sung by KK. I am writing it down assuming that almost all of us have these same memories relating to these songs of this hit duo.

Back when we were kids and we never intentionally heard or searched for these songs, these tunes just submerged into our ears directly via radios at a school canteen or maybe your elder siblings/ cousins listening to them on TV. The tunes were so catchy that it probably got sucked by our unconscious minds. A time when movies and songs meant nothing to us, we were either playing all the time and partially studying.

As time passed further, we were enjoying our last couple of years in school. Sharing Games and Music via Blank CDs or Bluetooth Transfers. The attraction might be the first of all the feelings that we experienced, and it was that stage in our life. From animated channels we had shifted to music channels, the music we heard back then was now on the recall path.

Many of these songs from Emraans films were a part of Bluetooth transfers as we used our dads handsets. Being occupied with school, sports, tuitions, etc. the days passed by, these songs became a part of our life. As we were in the midst of understanding this term attraction which we never really understood and didnt even need to. Yet we enjoyed those new feelings in a way through these songs Zara Si, Soniyean endless list.

Now as of today, these songs might act as a highlight to all the memories and the tons of stories you were a part of. A time which might have been different for all of us, our stories and memories might differ but in a way, they are connected through some of these beautiful elements of various mediums.the Beetein Lamhein

Check Out the Dramatic Newly Released Crossover Trailer for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Station 19’ – AmoMama

A new shocking and jaw-dropping teaser has been released for the much-anticipated premiere of the "Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19" crossover, which is set to hit the screens on November 12.

With just three weeks before fans of the beloved ABC dramas "Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19" get to see the three-hour crossover premiere event, the network has released a captivatingteaser to whet fans' appetites.

In the 30 seconds promo clip, fans get to have a look at what to expect as the doctors and firefighters respond to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which would be explored. It began with a scene of Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo in complete personal protective equipment, which includes a face shield.

Looking stressed and desperate, Grey stands in the middle of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital with her together as if offering a prayer while she says, "sometimes we all need saving." It followed by a dramatic frame of Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson, looking through the glass and asking for a miraculous intervention.

Scenes from "Station 19" then come into play before there is an alternation between both shows. It is, however, the ending of the teaser that is the highlight of the promo as the background voice assures viewers that the premier would leave everyone shocked and saying, "Oh my god."

Season 17 of the medical series was first teased last month when Pompeo shared a photo of the crew on the first day on set after returning following the halt the pandemic brought to productions.

Before the image, Pompeo's co-star Giacomo Gianniotti confirmed that the new season would take off a bit farther from where things stopped in the previous season.

Its firefighter spin-off is set to return for its fourth season and explore the shocking revelation that Andy's mother, Elena, is not dead but alive. The show explores the lives and careers of the firefighters at the Seattle Fire Station 19, which is about three blocks away from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

"Station 19" is the second spin-off of the award-winning "Grey's Anatomy," with the first being "Private Practice." The crossover would see Ben Warren, played by Jason George, and Andy Herrera, by Jaina Lee Ortiz, visit the hospital after a rescue mission that saved two boys from a house fire.

They take the boys for surgery and Warren who is a doctor turned firefighter is tasked with the decision to help out while Herrerra's hand remains in the victim's abdomen to stop him from bleeding.

Both shows premiere on November 12 with "Station 19" taking the lead at 8 pm and "Grey's Anatomy" coming in shortly by 9 pm. Other ABC shows set to premiere next month include "Good Doctor" on November 2, "Big Sky," on November 17, followed by "For Life" on November 18.

Grey’s Anatomy: Meredith’s Transformation Over The Years (In Pictures) – Screen Rant

Grey's Anatomy fans have watched Meredith's struggles and triumphs for so long, they may not realize just how much she has changed.

Meredith Grey from the hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy has become one of the most iconic television characters for over a decade and a half.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy 5 Most Likable Characters (& 5 Fans Can't Stand)

Grey's has had an overwhelming spate of ups and downs throughout its run, but it was its central character Meredithwho changed the most over the course of the series. Having started out as a slightly superficial young woman, she went on to become a powerhouse of strength and a brilliant surgeon.

Meredith was first introduced as an attractive young woman just starting out as an intern at Seattle Grace Teaching Hospital. She was a bit green and lost and wasn't entirely sure she had made the right decision with regard to her profession.

She was also a tad whiny, and very selective about the kind of roommates she wanted, being rather obstinate, even to the point of being annoying. She was clearly smitten with McDreamy and had every right to be angry when she found out about his wife, Addison Montgomery-Shepherd, but she lacked the gravityat the time to deal with it more maturely.

Meredith got together with Derek Shepherd and continued to make small strides in her career as she went from being a surgical intern to a resident at the hospital. Her attachmentwith Cristina gradually grewstrongergoing on to become something of a legendary friendship on popular television.

Meredith overcomesher mother's death at this time and settles into her life as a budding surgeon and as the impressive neurosurgeon's girlfriend.

In season 5, Meredith takes a big step when she decides to marry Derek, and true to their style, the two write their marriage vows down on a post-it. The unpretentious wedding speaks to the couple's modest philosophy of life, in spite of Derek being quite well-off himself.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 5 Times Meredith And Derek Were The Perfect Couple (& 5 Times They Weren't)

Fans might remember that season 6 ended with Derek being shot and operated on, at gunpoint, by Cristina Yang. Meredith had a major trauma at the time as she saw her husband being almost killed and lost her baby at the same time. In hindsight, this might have been the season she grew up in.

In seasons 7 and 8, Meredith made some crucial choices in her life, when she decided to risk her career and reputation as well as that of Derek's by disrupting the Alzheimer's trial. However, debatable as the step was, it came from a place of deep loyalty and fondness for Richard, the only father figure in Meredith's life.

Meredith and Derek also decided to adopt baby Zola, which was a huge step for them both. This was the time that Meredith went on to take on bigger responsibilities,

Season 8 had ended with the devastating plane crash that caused the death of Meredith's young sister Lexie and Dr. Mark Sloan.

The disaster was one of the biggest tragedies Meredith had seen in her life and she had seen more than her fair share. She pulled it together slowly and managed to turn her life around after the incident, becoming one of the owners of Seattle Grace which then went on to be known as Grey Sloan Memorial, in honor of those who had died in the tragedy. She also had her first baby in this season in complete darkness and managed to pull through despite having a complicated birth.

The tragedy of season 9 had made Meredith stronger somehow and with a heavy heart, she managed to let Cristina go when the latter decided to take a prestigious job in Switzerland.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why Meredith & Cristina Aren't Real Friends

It would have taken a lot of strength for Meredith to come to terms with losing her best friend, her 'person' who had been by her side through thick and thin.

Season 11 was the most devastating to date for Meredith Grey. Not only did she start having difficulties in her marriage with Derek, and take the decision to stay back in Seattle where she had her own life and career, she lost Derekafter he died in a car accident.

Another episode in her life when Meredith found herself all alone, in spite of having friends who looked out for her, the widowed mother of two gave birth to Derek's posthumousbaby alone. Time stopped for her until she had found the motivation to come back to her old life. With that one incident, Meredith grew a few years in age and maturity.

Meredith went on to struggle with life, now as a single mother of three. She also showed extraordinary power when she was able to forgive the woman, Penny, whom she held somewhat responsible for mishandling her husband's treatment.

She threw herself into work, now one of the most reliable and topsurgeons in the hospital. Every trauma from her past had made her stronger and more mature in life and as a person.

Meredith went on to win the prestigious Harper Avery award, an award her mother Ellis Grey had won twice.

Meredith also tried to move on after Derek's death, finally allowing herself to date other men, whether the dashing new surgeon Nathan Riggs or the handsome new surgical intern Andrew DeLuca.

By season 15 and 16, Meredith has had some of the most amazing surgeries to her credit and had probably saved more lives than she could remember.

Her years of hard work were also validated when all her past patients came to speak up on her behalf during the trial to reinstate her medical license in season 16. Meredith grew steadily more strong and independent over the years, although she still retained her impulsive behavior, when she decided to commit insurance fraud to make life easier for one of her patients, leading to her license being revoked in the first place.

Modelling the Anatomical Distribution of Neurological Events in COVID-19 Patients: A Systematic Review – DocWire News

This article was originally published here

medRxiv. 2020 Oct 23:2020.10.21.20215640. doi: 10.1101/2020.10.21.20215640. Preprint.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Neuropathology caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been reported across several studies. The characterisation of the spatial distribution of these pathology remains critical to assess long and short-term neurological sequelae of COVID-19. To this end, Mathematical models can be used to characterise the location and aetiologies underlying COVID-19-related neuropathology.

METHOD: We performed a systematic review of the literature to quantify the locations of small neurological events identified with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) among COVID-19 patients. Neurological events were localised into the Desikan-Killiany grey and white matter atlases. A mathematical network diffusion model was then used to test whether the spatial distribution of neurological events could be explained via a linear spread through the structural connectome of the brain.

FINDINGS: We identified 35 articles consisting of 123 patients that assessed the spatial distribution of small neurological events among COVID-19 patients. Of these, 91 patients had grey matter changes, 95 patients had white matter changes and 72 patients had confirmed cerebral microbleeds. White matter events were observed within 14 of 42 white matter bundles from the IIT atlas. The highest proportions (26%) of events were observed within the bilateral corticospinal tracts. The splenium and middle of the corpus callosum were affected in 14% and 9% of the cases respectively. Grey matter events were spatially distributed in the 41 brain regions within the Desikan-Killiany atlas. The highest proportions (10%) of the events were observed in areas including the bilateral superior temporal, precentral, and lateral occipital cortices. Sub-cortical events were most frequently identified in the Pallidum. The application of a mathematical network diffusion model suggested that the spatial pattern of the small neurological events in COVID-19 can be modelled with a linear diffusion of spread from epicentres in the bilateral cerebellum and basal ganglia (Pearsons r =0.41, p <0.001, corrected).

INTERPRETATION: To our knowledge, this is the first study to systematically characterise the spatial distribution of small neurological events in COVID-19 patients and test whether the spatial distribution of these events can be explained by a linear diffusion spread model. The location of neurological events is consistent with commonly identified neurological symptoms including alterations in conscious state among COVID-19 patients that require brain imaging. Given the prevalence and severity of these manifestations, clinicians should carefully monitor neurological symptoms within COVID-19 patients and their potential long-term sequelae .

Grey’s Anatomy star responds to rumours on show’s future – digitalspy.com

Grey's Anatomy star Kevin McKidd has responded to rumours about the show's future.

Recent years have seen heavy speculation that the popular medical drama may be coming to an end if leading star Ellen Pompeo decides to leave her role as Dr Meredith Grey. It is currently on its 17th season.

McKidd, who has played Dr Owen Hunt since 2008, was asked by Digital Spy over his thoughts on the rumours and whether he feels the show still has plenty of life left in it.

"My gut tells me that this isn't our last season," he said.

Sign up to Disney+

"I don't know why, I don't know what it's based on. I hope it isn't, because at this point, I'm a first-generation immigrant to America. So this has become my second family all these people in this crew and in this cast. So I'd just miss everybody if it was over.

"And I still feel as though we have relevant stories to tell. I feel as though we went through kind of a lull and a dip a few years ago. I think we're kind of on this incredible upswing. It's a testament to Krista Vernoff and all the writers.

"I feel as though we have stories to tell, so that's where I'm at with it. I don't really listen to the speculation, because all of it is beyond my control anyway. But I hope [it isn't the last season]. I'm definitely game to keep going."

Last October, Pompeo whose current contract runs out at the end of the season offered an update saying that nothing has been decided yet.

"I don't take the decision lightly," she said. "We employ a lot of people, and we have a huge platform. And I'm very grateful for it."

Grey's Anatomy seasons 1-15 will be available to stream on Disney+ via Star on Tuesday, February 23.

Greys Anatomy Producer Reveals Season 17 Could Have Ended Differently for Meredith After COVID Battle – Us Weekly

Thats a wrap. Season 17 of Greys Anatomy was anything but uneventful, and when it comes to Meredith Greys dramatic story line, things could have ended pretty differently.

The ABC shows season finale aired on Thursday, June 3, closing out a whirlwind journey as Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) healed from her lengthy coronavirus battle. In the last moments of the episode, Meredith walks out of a successful transplant surgery and declares in a voiceover, Im still alive.

Executive producer Meg Marinis, who cowrote the final episode, revealed that the ending fans watched wasnt the original one the team had in mind.

We initially wrote Merediths clap-out to be when she was discharged from the hospital, in Episode 1715, Marinis told Deadline in an interview published Thursday night. But we quickly realized that moment seemed like the end of the season, so we came up with the brilliant idea of Meredith escaping her own clap-out, which felt very Meredith Grey to us.

Earlier on in the season, Meredith didnt receive the traditional round of applause for cured patients after her months-long battle with COVID-19 was over. Instead, she was given the standing-O after she and Teddy (Kim Raver) performed a double lung transplant surgery.

So many people had struggled with Covid, and she didnt want to feel any different than anyone else, Marinis described of the emotional moment. So we decided to clap Meredith out of the OR instead, which felt like the ultimate victory to her journey this season.

Merediths final scene wrapped the season on a positive note. That shot of Meredith, in the OR Corridor, surrounded by her people, laughing and smiling in her scrub cap it gives me all the feels, the producer said. It gives me hope after such a hard year.

While it may have seemed to many longtime viewers that season 17 could be the medical dramas last, the network renewed it for an 18th season in May. Pompeo, 51, previously teased that theres no end in sight for the Greys team.

I gotta keep doing it, man, because were touching lives and making a difference, she said during a 2018 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Pompeo is ready to tell more of her characters story, but theres one doctor fans wont be seeing again next season. Jesse Williams, who played Jackson Avery for 12 seasons, announced his departure from the show last month.

My last day there, the crew and cast give me this incredibly thoughtful, moving custom box full of letters and memorabilia from each and every member of the family. Heartfelt letters and photos, he told Entertainment Weekly of his emotional exit. Ive got my original lab coat, stethoscope, and ID card, scrub tops and all these mementoes. It was really sweet. Im looking at it right now, its sitting on my countertop. Its really, really sweet personal stuff, anecdotes. It was really something. Im incredibly grateful.

‘NCIS,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ & More Shows That Benefited From Shorter Seasons – TV Insider

The past two TV seasons were affected by the pandemic in more ways than just offscreen (with production shutdowns and adjustments to availability and what scenes could and could not be filmed). They also, in some cases, featured fewer episodes of some of our favorite shows. But that wasnt necessarily a bad thing.

For example, when it came to medical dramas that incorporated COVID-19 (like Greys Anatomy), it might allow the shows to distance next season slightly from it with most of the pandemic (except for long-term effects) left in the past. For procedurals, it resulted in tighter storylines and less time spent chasing after a suspect (like on Law & Order: Organized Crime). And for one kiss that was seasons in the making, it might have meant fewer episodes to finally see that happen.

Scroll down as we take a look at the shows that benefited from shorter seasons in 2020-2021 based on the current storylines.

Grey’s Anatomy: 5 Ways Jackson And Sloan Had The Ultimate Bromance (& 5 It Was George And Burke) – Screen Rant

Between George & Burke and Jackson & Sloan, which Grey's Anatomy bromance would fans say is the best?

Grey's Anatomy features very many spectacular friendshipsand relationships. There are some bromances that stand out simply because they are too cool, and sometimes too cute to handle. Mark Sloan and Jackson Avery were two such characters who had such an adorable bond that developed from their mentor-mentee relationship.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Ways Jackson Became Better And Better

But George O'Malley and Preston Burke walked so that Jackson and Mark could run. After all, O'Malley and Burke were the first bromance of the early Grey's Anatomy universe. However, if fans have to choose between the two friendships, which one would they say was the ultimate bromance?

Mark was so excited to call them the "Plastic Posse" when Jackson also firmly decided to pursue Plastics as his specialization. The excitement with which he presented the name to Jackson, adding the tagline "kicking surgical a**, and taking names," was incredibly cute. He also started referring to themselves with this title when talking to others as well. While embarrassed initially, Jackson quickly warmed up to itand even started using it himself.

When George left Meredith's house after their one night stand, he crashed for a while at Burke's house. This was where fans saw their bond grow stronger. George went running with Burke, made him coffee and breakfast, knew his favorite musicians, played instruments with him, and more.

Cristina noted how George was doing everything except sleeping with Burke. He was doing all those things that Cristina shirked away. It was quite amusing to watch George and Burke's domestic existence.

Jackson and Sloan were the pinnacle bromance at this moment as Sloan admits to Jackson with certainty that he wants to be Jackson's teacher, while Jackson agrees back that he wanted to be Mark's student.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Ways Mark Sloan Got Better And Better

While their relationship was briefly strained due to their love of Lexie, they decided to put their careers first. After this, they continued their bromance in full swing and nothing could break them apart again.

When George's father was getting surgery, Burke took a complete interest in the case - even when he couldn't operate himself. He was constantly helping George, and getting updates, giving him medical advice.

It was very easy to see how much George trusted Burke and how strong their relationship was as George would still seek Burke out, even after Burke and Cristina's secret was exposed.

When Jackson started exploring other specialties other than Plastics, Mark started to get really worried that Jackson would leave him. He very earnestly asks Derek whether Jackson was going to leave him as well.

This is a hilarious moment asShepherd pulls Mark's leg, telling him that if he loved someone, he should let them free. But the earnest way with which Mark approached Derek showed to fans how much the bromancemeant to Mark.

When Alex Karev and George got stuck in an elevator with a man who very badly needed heart surgery, Burke called on Alex to perform the same. While Alex panicked and froze, George took over. And Burke instructed George through the entire procedure, which was an incredible achievement for just an intern.

Burke was incredibly proud of George for being able to pull it off, and their ability to communicate in that extreme situation was intense.

Before Jackson's Boards, Mark was behaving exactly as a concerned parent would. He told him what to eat, offered to give him cash, told him how to behave, and so on. It was a hilarious moment where Sloan was being so fatherly to a very teenager likeJackson. Jackson and Sloan's relationship had many dimensions, and this father-son like dimension was a joy to watch.

George and Burke moved past a mentor-mentee relationship pretty quickly, into a very solid friendship. And soon, Preston started to refer to O'Malley as his "guy." George became Burke's go-to person for everything, and he trusted and relied on George for things. They were a good team, both practicing medicine and on other things.

To decide who takes care of Sofia that day, Mark Sloan and Arizona Robbins engage in a match of 'Rock, Paper, Scissors.' Jackson is also present in the scene as his hype-man and the intensity with they engage in the match is hilarious.

After they go two rounds, Jackson pulls Mark back to discuss the plan of action in the final round. The absurdity and silliness of the situation, coupled with the way in which Jackson and Sloan discuss the matter makes it one of the funniest moments on the show.

When Burke's lucky scrub caps are misplaced in the laundry, the highly superstitious surgeon is extremely worried. He finds out that Cristina has one of them and is using it to blackmail him into kicking O'Malley out of their house.

Burke assigns George to get it back from Cristina, and O'Malley gives it his all. George's dedication towards doing the task and the trust Burke places on him to do so all add up for very comical occurrences to happen.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Fans Still Think Nico Is the Worst – ‘He’s Basically a Statue’ – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

When Dr. Nico Kim (played by actor Alex Landi) first appeared on Greys Anatomy in Season 15, the new character made history on the medical TV drama.

Dr. Kims addition back in 2018 expanded the diversity of Greys Anatomy in numerous ways: He was the shows first openly gay male surgeon, he extended the dramas racial diversity, and he was also the shows first orthopedic surgery fellow (Dr. Callie Torres, played by Sara Ramirez, never actually did her fellowship).

However, despite Dr. Kims groundbreaking storyline and plot development, not everyone loves how the surgeon is portrayed onGreys Anatomy, and some fans on social media have choice words about the actor himself.

Greys Anatomy is no stranger to characters expressing their sexuality and embracing their personal identity. But when actor Alex Landi landed the role of Dr. Nico Kim in 2018, the news quickly caught the attention of fans for how historic the decision was.

Greys Anatomy has, of course, had no shortage of prominent LGBT characters over the years, explained TV Line when the news broke, but few of them have been men. Andnone of them have been surgeons.

Dr. Nico Kim appears in the premier of 2018s 15 season, working alongside Dr. Atticus Lincoln (i.e., Link) to help save a woman who had been hit by a car while biking. In that same episode, Dr. Kim hints at his sexuality when he winks at Dr. Levi Schmitt.

After the flirtatious wink in the season 15 premiere, Dr. Kim and Dr. Schmitt get to know each other and share their first kiss in an elevator during season 15s sixth episode before becoming a couple.

Dr. Kim and Dr. Schmitts relationship become a significant part of the shows drama as the two navigate working together and integrating their personal and professional lives. Unfortunately, the constant tension proves too much for the two doctors.

In the sixteenth season of Greys Anatomy, the couple ends their relationship. Dr. Schmitt opens up to his then-boyfriend, saying hes tired of always having to ask for what he wants and explaining that he needs someone whos willing to make sacrifices for him. Dr. Kim responds, saying that he hopes Dr. Schmitt can find someone who can do that one day.

The Nico and Levi break up scene was so badly written and anti-climactic, complained one fan on Twitter. Nico is an [expletive]the constant disrespect he shows Levi, complained another Twitter user.

Years after their breakup, Greys Anatomy audiences still have strong feelings about the Dr. Kim character, and even about Landi as an actor himself. This guy is a terrible actor, writes one Reddit user. Hes basically a statue and I dont get why he is in the show. No range, no emotion. A grapefruit would do a better job!

Numerous other audience members on the social media network piled on in the comments. One person said I literally hate Nico, while another person tried to give Landi the benefit of the doubt. I never really thought about the actor being bad, writers Reddit user Living-Purple-8004. I just thought the character was so bad. But youre not wrong.

Interestingly, Landi was relatively new to acting when he landed the role of Dr. Kim, and he wasnt a big fan of Greys Anatomy before joining the show. The 26-year-old actually didnt grow up envisioning acting let alone acting on one of TVs most popular shows, reports Entertainment Weekly. He wasnt a Greys Anatomy superfan but hes a quick learner.

Landi tells the outlet that he did a lot of research on the characters and their various relationships, but that its hard to catch up when theres been 20-something episodes a season for 14 seasons.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Keeps Trying to Replace Derek, But It Will Never Work – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Greys Anatomy wouldnt be in its 17th season if it didnt have a strong opening, and while the show remains a massive hit nearly two decades into its run, it still owes a lot to its earliest days.

While the show is, at its core, an ensemble piece about theworkers at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, its really about the titular Meredith Grey. While fans still love the series, many miss a character who hasnt been on the series in years.

Dozens of characters have come and gone throughout the series run, but Ellen PompeosMeredith Grey remains headstrong17 years into her run on the series. Throughout that time, fans have watched Grey fall in and out of love, watched as her loved ones pass away, cope with the tragedies that come with her job, and manage several difficult personalities both through her doctors and her patients.

In many ways, it is Greys private life that shapes everything else. The show has gotten bigger in scale and made stars out of more than one cast member, but had Grey not been there as the hospitals backbone, things might have gone much differently.

As a hard-working doctor with little time to waste on love, several men have tried throughout the series run, but her original relationship with Derek is still the highlight of her love life.

Meredith met Derek through their job. As her married boss, the twotried to keep their relationship professionaluntil a spur-of-the-moment one-night-stand complicated things. However, rather than hiding her feelings, Meredith and Derek eventually come clean after he agrees to leave his wife and start a relationship with Grey.

The relationship had its ups and downs for eleven years, but when Dempsey left the show in season 11, a wrench was put into the whole thing.

From Chris ODonnells Finn, a rebound after Derek resisted her pleas to Nathan, Finn, and William Thorpe, Meredith has had her ups and downs when it comes to her relationships. Pompeo reflected on this shifting tone, acknowledging that she wanted Greys love life to be authentic.

I think that a show that runs for as long asGreys, the show has had to grow with the characters, Pompeo told Good Housekeeping. Im 15 years older now, so Im so much stronger a person than I was then. It just evolves, the actress said (per Good Housekeeping). The writers get to know you, they watch the dailies and they watch the show.Greysis so unique, because weve been on the air for so long, theyve all watched me grow up. Shonda and the writers, weve all grown up together.

Despite Dereks death and Dempseys departure, that initial relationship is still the best the show has had to offer.

Speaking about the men in Merediths life, manyfans on Reddit spoke about their desireto see her end up with someone like Derek. However, as u/HorseToothGary points out, recreating what once worked doesnt necessarily make for compelling television.

Meredith and Derek were too good together. They made the show the hit it was in the beginning. No other combo will ever come close. Patrick Dempsey was just too perfect. It would be like trying to replace Han Solo with Leia. Not possible.

Meredith has to grapple with loss like everyone else, and while the series has had its hits and misses over 17 years, this helps keep the show fresh. After all, Meredith is the driving force that has allowed Greys cast to flourish for as long as it has. With no signs of slowing down, either, perhaps true love still awaits its biggest star.
