GKN Aerospace and Saab from Sweden will participate in the study.

Using a joint technology development, the Swedish aviation industry aims to build and sustain air combat capabilities development economically.

Future fighter jets are expected to meet increased propulsion needs and sensors and weapons with enhanced output and cooling needs.

In the first quarter of this year, GKN Aerospace won a contract from Swedish Defence Materiel Administration(FMV) to conduct a study with Rolls Royce on future fighter engine technology development.

3 Things Aerospace Investors Need to Know – Motley Fool

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the aerospace industry hard in 2020. The industry started the year as the star performer in an otherwise weak industrial economy. However, it will end it with investors wondering just when commercial air travel can get back to 2019 levels and what kind of industry it will be in the future? In order to shed some light on these questions, let's take a look at what Raytheon Technologies (NYSE:RTX) CEO Greg Hayes has said recently about the industry.

It's no secret that it's going to take years for the industry to recover, and the timing of the recovery is important. After all, analysts and investors will be penciling in earnings assumptions based on when air travel will get back to previous levels. A slowdown in air travel impacts both original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sales and the aftermarket -- both key areas for engine manufacturers Raytheon and General Electric (NYSE:GE).

Aircraft engine services are big money generators for GE and Raytheon Technologies.

In this regard, the medium-term outlook appears to be worsening. For example, back in May, Hayes discussed the aftermarket during the earnings call and implied he was "assuming a 2- or even a 3-year kind of recovery here." Fast forward to a July interview with Aviation Week and Hayes said, " I would say we're looking now at getting back to 2019 in 2023, maybe 2024. It is going to be a slow recovery."

Unfortunately, it appears the outlook is deteriorating, and that may explain the recent weakness in the sector.

During the Aviation Week interview, Hayes also raised the prospect of a bifurcation in the recovery for narrow-body and wide-body aircraft. The former is seen as recovering quicker as it's "primary domestic," according to Hayes. Meanwhile, wide-body aircraft are more reliant on international and intercontinental travel -- markets seen as recovering more slowly.

If Hayes is right, then it's not good news for General Electric and Boeing (NYSE:BA). Boeing was previously hopeful of a cyclical pickup in wide-body orders beginning in 2020 and inspired by the new 777X and ongoing demand for the 787. Meanwhile, GE is impacted because its GEnx engine is one of the two options on the 787, and its GE9X is being developed for the 777X. Indeed, Boeing is already cutting production of its wide-body aircraft.

Given the current commercial air-travel environment, it's not surprising that aerospace investors have been willing to pay a premium for companies in the closely related defense sector. However, Hayes made it clear that " Defense budgets will go down, but I think the real question is where Defense Department spending is going."

Hayes sees Raytheon as relatively well placed given its exposure to cyber protection, intelligence, communications, and electronic warfare. However, questions might be asked about companies with exposure to traditional military hardware like General Dynamics.

If Hayes is right, then investors should feel a bit more negative around the outlook for all the leading aviation companies. After all, no one wants to see the timeline of a recovery in commercial air travel being pushed out.

However, it's clear that Boeing and GE are set to be net losers if wide-body demand doesn't recover, particularly as it's an area where Boeing is seen as having an edge over Airbus, and GE over Raytheon. It increases the pressure on cash flow at Boeing. Meanwhile, GE's cash flow is heavily reliant on its aviation segment, and it's invested heavily in the GE9X engine for the 777X in the hope of years of lucrative aftermarket revenue to come.

Turning to Raytheon, the tardiness of a commercial aerospace recovery is obviously a concern for its aircraft engines, but its defense business looks well placed and will support the commercial business through a difficult time. Management expects $2 billion in free cash flow for 2020 as Raytheon absorbs the bulk of the COVID-19 hit. Analysts have that bouncing to something near $6 billion in 2021. Given the current market cap of $91.6 billion and the prospects of an ongoing recovery thereafter, Raytheon looks a good value stock right now.

Aerospace industry takes off in the Chihuahua desert – Border Report

CHIHUAHUA, Mexico (Border Report) The aerospace industry is flying high in Chihuahua despite COVID-19.

Forty-five American and European airplane and helicopter parts manufacturers now have a presence in the state, and Paris-based Safran just announced a $10 million expansion in the capital.

These factories churn out anything from turbines to landing-gear components, from airplane seats to life rafts and sliders. The industry now employs more than 60,000 workers in Mexico and most of that countrys $8 billion in aerospace exports wind-up in the United States.

Industry officials attribute the growth to various factors. Being close to the U.S. border cuts down on transportation costs. Automotive maquiladora suppliers have been able to adapt and serve the aerospace sector. And, above all, states like Chihuahua are getting good at developing a skilled labor force.

When I go recruiting companies in advanced manufacturing, they ask about land and infrastructure, of course. But the main concern is having a trained workforce, said Jerry Pacheco, president and CEO of the Border Industrial Association.

He said states like Chihuahua which borders Texas and New Mexico have a 50-year track record of working with U.S.-run maquiladoras and are getting very good at providing skilled employees for each industry.

Aerospace has taken off in Chihuahua for two main reasons: the supply base and that skilled labor force, Pacheco said. We have lots of young people with technical skills. And we have copper-wiring companies that supply the auto industry and that overlaps into aerospace. In essence, the aerospace industry is piggy-backing on the auto industry.

Mexican universities graduate thousands of engineers a year. But the bulk of the work remains manual. Vocational schools and training centers bear responsibility for making sure young people out of high school and older workers with limited schooling can use and service million-dollar machinery and reliably put together airplane fuselage.

Keep driving south on Mexican Highway 45 (the old Pan-American Highway) and you might miss the earth-toned buildings of an industrial park in the outskirts of Chihuahua City.

The park is home to half a dozen maquiladoras and Cenaltec, the state-owned Center for High Technology. Its an institution that prior to the pandemic was training an average of 2,500 workers per month.

We have lots of students from technical schools, but most are between 20 and 35 years old and are production workers, said center Director Aaron Olivas Ochoa. Many people work in maintenance or production lines. But when youre servicing a machine you need to know electricity, when youre working with helicopter rotors, you need very specific skills.

The center played a pivotal role in the Safran expansion. A company official earlier said one of the conditions for opening a new plant in Chihuahua City was for the state to provide trained workers.

The center resembles a maquiladora, with wide, open aisles and machines neatly spaced. Inside, instructors teach factory workers how to do plastic-injection molding, program tool and die machines and apply rivets to metal thatll become the body of an aircraft.

Olivas said he realizes that some people may find learning in a classroom difficult. Thats why the center is 80% hands-on.

We make sure they have the practice they need to be productive when they (step into) the plant. Otherwise, they might spend six months learning how to operate a machine, said Jorge Luis Fernandez, one of the instructors at Cenaltec.

If a worker applies the wrong amount of force on a mock airplane part, no one gets hurt and the worker just learned what to avoid the next time. Electrical pods give workers supervised training without the risk of electrocution or damaging an expensive machine at a factory.

On a corner of the building, Jose Ramiro Cedillo taught maquiladora worker Jorge Cano how to program a tool and die cutting machine.

The student seemed tentative at first, but quickly caught on.

Victor Acosta, another worker, watched from the sidelines.

Making airplane parts is a big responsibility. You must make a quality product and you feel proud knowing that what you make at the factory is used all over the world, Acosta said.

The Chihuahua City native said hes worked in maquiladoras since finishing school. We learn the processes before going on to the production line. They have very strict quality controls, he said.

Cedillo said hes been involved in worker training for several years. His students range from young Mexican engineers to skilled workers in California, Arizona and Texas.

All of us (instructors) have experience in the industry. What we do here is provide accelerated training programs in regards to machining, dimensioning, milling, turning, he said. They go from zero to being able to get the job done and move on to a higher salary.

Cenaltec officials say maquiladoras have donated many of their training machines and raw materials.

Some even bring their personnel for specialized training at the center, while others allow the trainees to complete their instruction at the plants, under the supervision of Cenaltec instructors.

The training can take anywhere from 25 hours for some certifications, to 350 hours to turn production-line workers into skilled aerospace manufacturing specialists. The state runs four campuses, one each in Chihuahua City, Juarez, Cuauhtmoc and Parral.

‘Don’t Give Up on Your Dreams’: Rendezvous with Kashmir’s Aerospace Girl – MENAFN.COM

As a young girl fascinated by physics and mathematics, she made up her mind to be 'among stars' after watching televised crash of the celebrated Indian astronaut's space shuttle.

Her resolve to make a name in a male-dominated profession has already made Faiqa an inspiration for many youngsters back home.

In a candid chat with Kashmir Observer, the aerospace girl talks about her passion and profession.

Please tell us something about your current professional engagements and your academic journey?

Well, I'm a Ph.D. student in aerospace engineering and computational mathematics at California State University and Claremont Graduate University. I also work for Safran as a proposal engineer.

Safran is an international high-technology company catering to aviation, space and defense markets.

I did my initial schooling from Shiekhul Alam Islamic Model (SIM) School, Charari Sharief and later on joined Delhi Public School (DPS), Srinagar where I passed my Senior Secondary School Examination.

Both these schools had a constructive role in shaping up who I am today. SIM offered a decent environment to be able to ask questions but DPS offered more resources and a platform to develop a multi-dimensional personality.

Later on, I started my career at Amity University where I finished Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering, and then I came to US for Masters at California State University.

Aerospace is one of the toughest engineering streams, how did you get into it?

As a curious child, when someone used to ask me about my career goals, my response would be 'a scientist'.

When you start learning about great scientists like Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, it gets quite fascinating to know how they came up with such complicated laws and equations. Only with time, one realizes that it takes an enormous effort and dedication to be a scientist.

I've always been interested in reading about planets, stars, and creation of the universe and would ask teachers questions to which sometimes they wouldn't even have answers.

In 2003, I watched space shuttle Columbia disintegrating on re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. Returning from a space mission, it took precious lives of six astronauts. It may sound counterintuitive that a disaster helped me shape up an idea in my head that I want to become an aerospace engineer.

Kalpana Chawla, the first Indian astronaut, got killed in that accident. Reading her biography has always been exciting. What she studied and how she reached NASA always intrigued me. It was this event that in some way helped me to decide and pursue Aerospace Engineering as a career choice.

But now, all the research I am doing is more motivated by working on something that furthers the aerospace technology and solve some of the unexplored problems of computational fluid dynamics.

Throughout your academic journey, what kept you motivated, focused and energized to keep going?

I feel as humans, we continue to keep finding the meaning of life. There's a curiosity and inquisition that keeps pushing you to know more about this universe and existence. And I consider science feeds to that curiosity within me.

Aerospace is all about physics and mathematics. Those things keep me interested and motivated.

I still sometimes go back to read Class 9 Physics textbook, where we start understanding physics at a detailed level. Physics is at the heart of the whole universe. The manifestations of the subject amaze me, from the order of the universe to the music; it keeps me glued to what I'm studying and what I want to do in the future.

Besides, I have always tried to be well-balanced in everything I do.

Data shows that there aren't many women in this area. So how does it feel to create a niche in a male-dominated field?

Taking up aerospace engineering after Class 12 was like jumping into a dark well. I didn't know anyone in this field I could consult, I hadn't checked any statistics. All I was doing was following my instincts and believing in myself. I always focused on the work rather than the difficulties and limitations.

I have had situations where I have been the only woman in a group of male engineers doing projects or working with them. This not only inspires me in many ways but also makes me realize that we should have more women in this field.

When I look back, I don't see many precedents among women to follow from Kashmir but I think there are a lot in the coming generation who have demonstrated enormous interest in the field who look up to me as a precedent. And I try my best to pass on my experiences to whoever approaches me.

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. What've you learned about yourself in this journey?

It's certain that we live life forwards but it's amusing that we learn and understand about life backwards.

When we look back at the phases of life we have lived, the reflections of those become the steps of the staircase of experiences we climb on, towards more meaningfulness. It has been a natural progression towards learning about sensitivities and human biases, only after being exposed by living on my own in foreign lands from the last 11 years.

The most important learning that I would like to share is being open to criticism. Thank your critics for they are the people who help you in becoming better and bigger.

Taking criticism is very hard and people usually get offended by it, but for me, I've only realized how important feedback is for personal as well as professional growth.

Also, we are unknowingly wrapped up in a number of biases and the whole struggle is to take yourself out of them one by one.

I see life in pieces. For a moment I live in those small pieces. And it's only when you look back, you're able to see what the journey was about.

You said since your childhood days you were keen about giving back to the society. How do you intend to do that now?

Well, my idea of giving back to humanity is to develop faster planes one day. It's one of my core interests.

I'm part of JK Scientists, an NGO run by Kashmiri scientists and professionals all over the world. Also, whenever I'm home, I try to be part of student outreach programs to interact with students and mentor them.

With all the work you've done, are you interested in going up in space one day?

I've always had this dream of traveling to space and wanting to be an astronaut.

But being an astronaut is like one in a million jobs which literally takes a lot of learning and experience to get selected. The work I have done so far is just the stepping stone, but to go to space one day I have a thousand miles to go. For now, it looks like a distant dream, but I will keep dreaming.

What's the biggest challenge you've faced as a woman in aerospace industry?

It's very important to have good self-esteem and to keep reminding yourself that you're not alone, and there're other women out there in diverse fields. You've to keep feeling it and be confident that you can compete with men at the same level.

That's a bit challenging when you talk in general terms but personally speaking, I haven't faced any challenges that I can count on. I've found great mentors and colleagues who I learn from every day and who've always been there to guide me through.

What's the most memorable opportunity you have had as an aerospace engineer?

Well, it was to work as a design engineer for A350 which is the latest Airbus aircraft. I have designed some parts which are flying onboard. I cherish that most memorable opportunity.

How long will it take for the aerospace industry to recover from the impacts of Covid-19?

As per the estimates by the aircraft manufacturing giants Airbus and Boeing, the aerospace industry is expected to recover by 2023.

Already, the pandemic has impacted the aerospace industry very badly. We are seeing grounding of fleets, thousands of planes that should be in the sky are lying on the tarmac. There is the cancellation of orders of new planes, slashing down of expected aircraft deliveries for this year, and retiring of old fleets like Boeing767.

Also, airlines around the globe are seeking help from the governments to avoid a potential collapse. The number of aircrafts in passenger service fell by more than 60 percent from the start of the year. It will take time to bring the production rate back to what should have been now.

Any word for people back home?

My interactions with Kashmiri students make me believe that children aren't allowed to pursue their dreams easily, especially girls.

Parents impose their opinions and career choices on their children without considering what talent and interest the child has.

Students should stay persistent with what they want to do in life. They must believe in themselves, and make the people around them believe in their talent. Don't give up easily on your dreams.

For parents out there, I would say believe in your children, empower and guide them by letting them learn on their own by experiencing and exploring.

Family is the one of the most important influences in a child's life and family support plays a significant role in our success as individuals and as members of the society.

Personally speaking, my parents especially my mother always supported me to do what I was passionate about.

For those who want to pursue a career in aerospace, I would say read and familiarize yourself with the field and understand what you are getting into. It is a very vast field and has a lot of opportunities to explore.

UK aerospace sector to benefit from 400 million funding to go green – GOV.UK

Aerospace jobs and supply chains across the UK will benefit from cutting-edge research and development projects announced today by the government and aerospace industry leaders.

Government grants totalling 200 million, delivered through the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) programme, will be matched by industry to create the total investment of 400 million in new research and technology, enabling ambitious projects to lift off and support the sectors recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

New projects set to receive funding will include developing high performance engines, new wing designs, ultra-lightweight materials, energy-efficient electric components, and other brand new concepts to enhance innovation within the sector. A project led by Williams Advanced Engineering in Oxford, for example, will develop ultra-lightweight seat structures that will reduce an aircrafts fuel consumption.

The funding will also secure highly-skilled jobs in the UKs aerospace sector and will benefit companies of all sizes from Caldicot in Wales to Bedlington in the North of England. Higher education institutions will also be a part of the projects, including the universities of Nottingham and Birmingham.

The funding was announced today by Business Secretary Alok Sharma at Farnborough Connect, the virtual version of Farnborough International Airshow.

Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Alok Sharma said:

We have an incredible aerospace industry right here in the UK that defines the way aircraft are manufactured globally.

This 400 million ATI investment will help secure our world-leading position in developing new flight technology to make air travel safer and greener into the future.

The successful projects that will receive a share of the governments 200 million grant funding through the ATI programme, and match it with their own investment, include:

A key benefit for us of the ATI support has been to enable accelerated development of the 3 companies involved in the consortium.

Additionally, by developing UK technologies and innovation, the ATI programme is enabling UK-based product development and, hopefully, future jobs. For Williams Advanced Engineering it has allowed us to participate in the aerospace sector as a non-traditional supplier.

During his speech today, the Business Secretary also announced the FlyZero initiative to kickstart exploration into zero-carbon emission commercial aircraft.

The FlyZero study will receive government funding and bring together around 100 experts to tackle issues involved in designing and building a commercially successful zero-emission aircraft. The study will create a strong basis for further research and development into a wide of technologies necessary for future flight, with the aim of securing future manufacturing in the UK.

This follows the launch of the Jet Zero Council, which brings industry and government together to make net zero emissions possible for future flights. The FlyZero study will feed into the work of the Council in defining and delivering this ambition.

Gary Elliott, Chief Executive of the Aerospace Technology Institute, said:

FlyZero represents an acceleration of the UKs ambition to lead the world in green aviation. These are challenging but also exciting times for the aerospace sector; we need to help UK companies to recover while also creating new approaches to technology development and innovation.

FlyZero will engage a team of highly-skilled engineers and technologists from across the UK to look into how to design and build a zero emission commercial aircraft, with the solid aim of securing future manufacturing in the UK.

The UK was the first major economy to commit to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and over the past decade, the UK has cut carbon emissions by more than any similar developed country. In 2019, UK emissions were 42% lower than in 1990, while our economy grew by 72%.

Projects approved by the ATIs rigorous assessment programme create opportunities to secure jobs in research and manufacturing across the UK as well as sharing knowledge across industry and academia.

While the commercial aerospace industry has been gravely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, all-electric aircraft offer companies within supply chains an option to aid recovery. As conventional aircraft production has stalled, all-electric aircraft could serve as a source of business for struggling suppliers. The mode of flight offered by all-electric aircraft would be attractive in the post-Covid-19 market. Trends observed after previous crises such as 9/11 indicate that demand for smaller, narrow-body aircraft recovers quicker than demand for large, wide-body aircraft. This corresponds to the gradual increase in passenger demand volume, with larger aircraft requiring a high volume of passengers to be rendered profitable. Extrapolating this trend, arguably the short, small, cheap flights offered by all-electric aircraft would meet customer demand in the near-term.

Furthermore, all-electric aircraft such as these will be available in the near term. MagniX, a pioneer in all-electric aircraft development, expects Federal Aviation Administration (FAA certification) in late 2021. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) expects that air passenger volume will recover to pre-Covid-19 levels in 2023. These coinciding timeframes lend credence to the notion that all-electric aircraft could be included within the post-Covid-19 recovery of the commercial aerospace industry. Such an inclusion would widen the commercial aerospace industry to include travel solutions on regional, national and global scales, and would add opportunities within commercial aerospace supply chains. Traditional components such as turboshafts and fuel systems would be supplemented by novel components such as electric motors and batteries.

Honeywell and SLM Solutions qualify parameters for 3D printing thicker aluminum aerospace parts – 3D Printing Industry

German metal 3D printer manufacturer SLM Solutions has worked with the aerospace division of multinational manufacturing conglomerate Honeywell, to produce a parameter set for 3D printing aluminum F357.

Developed as part of the companies ongoing partnership, the material reportedly provides 3D printed parts with considerably improved properties compared to those created through die-casting methods. In addition, the advanced additive metal could also address both partners wider goals of reducing manufacturing times and costs, and 3D printing aircraft components that meet industry standards.

The open architecture system of the SLM machine provides huge advantages like high flexibility, and parameter sets can be customized, said Dr. Sren Wiener, Senior Director of Technology and Advanced Operations at Honeywell Aerospace. With this open access strategy and the great support of SLM Solutions, we step forward to achieving our next goals.

SLM and Honeywells 3D printing partnership

Based in Luebeck, Germany, SLM Solutions is a specialist in developing and providing Selective Laser Melting (SLM) 3D printers. TheSLM 800metal additive systemwas revealed at Formnext 2017, and features a quad-laser configuration with four 400 W or 700 W lasers, and a large build envelope measuring 500 x 280 x 850 mm.

The companys additive manufacturing technology has been utilized within a range of applications, including in the production of the worlds largest 3D printed rocket engine for British aerospace firm Orbex. This was followed by collaborations with Italian service bureau BEAMIT, which saw the companies develop new printing settings for SLM printers, and cycling supplier CeramicSpeed, where it 3D printed pulley wheels for professional cyclists.

Nonetheless, neither of the companys existing partnerships yielded impressive financial results for SLM Solutions, and it announced a 38.3 percent decline in sales last year. Since then, SLM has begun working with Honeywell to qualify new additive manufacturing parameters, to enable 3D printing at increased thicknesses, and its fortunes have changed. Now, not only has the company revealed record financial results for the first quarter and will likely be hoping that its collaboration with Honeywell, could lead to new applications of its metal 3D printing technology.

The aerospace applications of aluminum F357

In the early stages of their collaborative work in December last year, Honeywell began attempting to qualify aluminum builds using its quad-laser SLM 500 3D printer. Working with the aluminum alloy F357, a new beryllium free version of AlSi7Mg0,6 (A357), the company experimented with increasing the layer thicknesses of parts to 60 and 90 m respectively.

SLM Solutions initially provided generic aluminum parameter sets for Honeywell to completematerial qualification and achieve optimal material properties, but now development has reached an important milestone. Using a new set of printing settings, the companies have 3D printed components that display significantly increased mechanical properties in comparison to those exhibited by conventional diecast parts.

Moreover, such robust, high-strength parts are now able to meet the required standard for enabling widespread aerospace adoption. As a result, F357 aluminum is highly sought after within the industry and it provides desirable mechanical properties too, such as enhanced corrosion resistance, and high-strength across a wide temperature range. The alloy also reportedly offers great weldability, and excellent suitability for post-processing, like mechanical machining or within electrochemical processes such as anodizing.

These characteristics lend themselves to creating thin, complex structures for applications in both the aerospace and automotive industries. As a result, the newly-developed printing parameters represent a landmark achievement in the companies ongoing partnership.

Aluminum materials in the 3D printing industry

Aluminum alloys are commonly used for manufacturing automotive and aerospace components, but they have been used to produce a range of end-use parts, ranging from sports equipment to dashboard panels. More recently, 3D printing companies have sought to develop metals with enhanced mechanical performance, in order to expand on these applications and create parts with improved qualities.

Metal additive manufacturing specialist Amaerohas entered the final phase of gaining international patent approval for its Amaero HOT Al aluminum alloy. The newly-developed metal has high scandium content and can be heat treated and age hardened after 3D printing, giving it a boost to strength and durability.

Materials manufacturer QuesTek Innovations LLC meanwhile, is developing a new 3D printer feedstock in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR). An aluminum alloy, the new material from the two companies, will exhibit high strength at elevated temperatures between 200 and 300C.

California-based HRL Laboratorieshas developed a powder format aluminum 3D printing material, which it claims is the strongest additive manufacturing aluminum to date. The alloy has already been utilized within a variety of industries, including on the Marshall Space Flight Center, which has begun using the material to produce large-scale aerospace components.

DIT joins Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter – GOV.UK

The Department for International Trade (DIT) has today joined the Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter, reaffirming its commitment to promoting and supporting gender balance in the sector and delivering on equality commitments outlined in the governments 2018 Aerospace Sector Deal.

The Charter, which was established at the Farnborough Air Show in 2018, is an industry-led initiative which encourages companies to commit to supporting improved gender balance and diversity within the aerospace sector.

Women are under-represented in aviation and aerospace, with only 5% of commercial pilots in the UK being women, as well as a well-recognised shortage of women studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and taking up roles in engineering.

DIT will now join over 200 signatories to the Charter, including Airbus, British Airways, Boeing, NATS, UK Space and International Airlines Group.

In 2019, the UKs aerospace exports totalled 37bn. The sector is spread across the UK with a strong presence in areas such as Belfast, the Midlands, North Wales, South Wales and Scotland.

Graham Stuart MP, Minister for Exports, said of DITs accession to the Charter:

This governments leadership in championing diversity across all sectors and providing opportunities for everyone is a key pillar of our Global Britain vision, and its fantastic that the Department for International Trade will be joining this Charter.

Parker Aerospace Named Highest-Rated Mechanical or Electrical Supplier Providing Customer Service to the Aerospace MRO Market – Business Wire

CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Parker Aerospace, a business segment of Parker Hannifin Corporation (NYSE: PH), the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced that it has received the top score in airline customer satisfaction among maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) mechanical and electrical suppliers worldwide. The findings come from the third annual Air Transport Aftermarket Customer Satisfaction Survey conducted by Inside MRO, Air Transport World, and AeroDynamic Advisory.

Of the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) ranked, only seven logged strong satisfaction scores. On a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the highest, those OEMs are:

This survey was conducted from mid-February to mid-May, with 185 qualified responses, including 62 unique airlines from around the world. OEMs were ranked in the following categories: ease of doing business, product reliability, technical support, parts cost, parts availability, aircraft-on-ground (AOG) support, OEM repair cost, OEM service center performance, overall satisfaction, and likelihood of recommending them to a peer or colleague.

Parker Aerospace improved year-over-year scores in ease of doing business, technical support, OEM repair cost, and OEM service center performance while also receiving the highest overall satisfaction score for mechanical/electrical suppliers in 2020. Most of the industry continues to show low net promoter scores (NPS) scores, like overall satisfaction, and Parkers NPS score has remained high among peers.

Lee Ann Shay, chief editor MRO, Aviation Week Network, reports in the July issue of Inside MRO that, Parker Hannifin has been putting a premium on customer service in the last several years, which seems to resonate with its customer base. It has expanded its in-region supportincluding inventory pooling centers in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia as well as repair capabilities. It also opened 24/7 customer response centers in Irvine, California, and Singapore.

The survey report also explains that Parker Hannifin Chairman and CEO Tom Williams established a net promoter score index called likelihood to recommend (LTR).

Customers are asked about their experience after every significant business transaction, says Austin Major, Parker Aerospace group vice president for business development & customer support. Customers who have good experiences hold a greater appreciation for the overall value offered by Parker and actively promote our brand. They are more likely to have a strong interest in new product offerings and product improvements, and to consider broadening their business with Parker.

Parkers leaders and business units are measured on the LTR scores, which Major says have steadily increased every year since the programs inception. Parker Aerospace has a division dedicated to serving aftermarket customers, called Customer Support Operations (CSO), which represents all of the aerospace technologies across Parkers Aerospace Group. Customers are surveyed with transactions that are manual and digital, plus an overall relationship survey, so that issues can be quickly identified and resolved.
