PPDK In Action
PPDK (Pyruvate phosphate dikinase) is a key enzyme in photosynthesis and gluconeogensis. This is an animation of catalytic reaction of PPDK from Clostridium symbiosum. Based on the crystal structure of PPDK, this model depicts the transfer of phosphate group from ATP (adenosine triphosphate) to histidine (H) amino acid in the H-domain of PPDK. The H-domain then rotates toward the other side of PPDK, and transfers the phosphate to the pyruvate molecule for conversion to PEP (phosphoenolpyruvate). These reactions are reversible.
