Humana Appoints National Medical Director for Wellness

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) named Dr. Thomas Van Gilder as national medical director for HumanaVitality and all wellness lines of business.

His passion for helping people live healthier lives, coupled with his extensive experience, will be instrumental to Humanas success in providing the next generation of employer well-being and productivity solutions.

Dr. Van Gilder will serve as a clinical advisor for Humana employer customers, providing solutions to enhance individual health and well-being as well as employee productivity. In this role, he will provide strategic guidance on implementing comprehensive employer-based wellness initiatives, such as HumanaVitality, and measuring their impact.

Since 2010, Dr. Van Gilder has served as vice president and market medical officer of Humanas Michigan and Wisconsin Commercial markets. Dr. Van Gilder will now report to Humanas Vice President of Health and Productivity Solutions, Sean Slovenski.

Dr. Van Gilder brings an outstanding record of clinical and behavioral science expertise to this position, said Sean Slovenski. His passion for helping people live healthier lives, coupled with his extensive experience, will be instrumental to Humanas success in providing the next generation of employer well-being and productivity solutions.

Dr. Van Gilder received a bachelors degree from the University of Virginia, a medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern, a juris doctor degree from Notre Dame Law School, and a masters degree in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Van Gilder serves on the Willis Clinical Advisory Board and the Wisconsin Health Information Exchange board. He will be based out of HumanaVitalitys national headquarters in Chicago.
