World Heart Day 2020: 4 healthy living habits to opt this World Heart Day – The Financial Express

You can start cardiovascular exercises on a daily basis, for example, 30 minutes five days every week, or 50 minutes three days per week.

By Namit Tyagi

The World Heart Federation has discovered that coronary illness and strokes are the worlds leading reasons for death. This Heart Day, we need to appreciate our heart more and adopt habits which benefit it. Our hearts work beat by beat, second by second for 24 hours a day, never resting. Over the average lifetime, our hearts beat about 2.5 billion times. Knowing that its one of the most vital organs keeping us alive, its important to treat it like the precious commodity it is.

Praise your heart by adopting healthy habits

Faulty eating, absence of exercise, irregular eating routine and hypertension, increased cholesterol and glucose levels are largely factors which can trigger coronary illness and cause problems in our lives, and those of friends and family. Heart Day was set up on September 29 to deliver the message that heart issues can be managed.

All you need is a thought that you will stick to healthy habits for the sake of your health. Healthy habits are not only important for heart health, they are equally important for overall health. You will be surprised to know how simple these habits are. Sometimes, we dont even pay attention to them. But once we start keeping them in mind and working on them, our heart will thank us in the longer run.

In case you are choosing to celebrate this day, it is essential that you are more mindful of your own heart health. There are various ways that you can do this. This includes following a healthy eating routine, stopping smoking, and engaging in physical activities. It is additionally important to have your cholesterol, pulse, and heart checked once in a while.

Apart from these, follow these habits to make your heart healthier:

Adopt healthy eating pattern

Most of us do not hesitate to order online when we feel hungry and thats very convenient. However, our eating pattern is suffering from irregularities due to our busy schedule and lifestyle. A lot of us are busy in work and household chores and get very little time to think about our eating habits. Due to easy availability of readymade food, we are consuming more saturated fats or trans fat. On the top of it, lack of exercising and movement is pushing us towards obesity which could lead to heart problems.

Make a routine, try to cook at home, minimize the use of processed foods and sweet foods, eat more vegetables and fruits and use healthy cooking oils, which mostly contain heart-healthy poly- and mono-unsaturated fats like Canola, Olive, Peanut, Soybean, Sunflower, Mustard oil to maintain your heart health.

Dont stress

Learning successful stress management techniques will keep your heart healthy supportive techniques can incorporate deep breathing, focused imagery and biofeedback training, which are all suggested by heart health experts. Nonetheless, day to day meditation or an ordinary relaxation practice class, for example, pilates or yoga can likewise be exceptionally beneficial.

Start getting quality sleep

We know that you must be busy but getting quality sleep is important, and should be on your list. Too much or too little sleep can significantly affect your heart health. Getting less than six hours of sleep a night has been proven to put your body under stress, increasing your risk of coronary illness or a stroke. Get the suggested eight hours of the night for an ideal heart health.

Exercise daily

You can start cardiovascular exercises on a daily basis, for example, 30 minutes five days every week, or 50 minutes three days per week. You can start running, swimming, brisk walking, riding a bicycle, playing b-ball or tennis, and working on your garden. Concerning quality structure exercises, in a perfect world, you should put aside two days every week for 30 minutes of exercise that works your muscles, for example, the legs, back, shoulders and arms. What comes under quality exercising? Lifting loads, doing bodyweight practices like yoga, push ups and sit ups, and even heavy gardening with a great deal of burrowing and scooping would help you in making your heart stronger.

If you decide, you can keep your heart happy and healthy from now on. Sticking to a routine can be challenging; however, once you start following the routine, you will thank yourself and so will your heart. This Heart Day, lets adopt these four healthy habits for the heart which has given you so much. It is our turn to thank it.

7 Tips & Tricks To Indulge Your Child Towards Healthy Eating And Living – Femina

So read ahead to know some tips and tricks that can help you promote a healthier lifestyle:

1. Set An ExampleImage: Shutterstock

Kids are mini versions of you. If they see you lazing around the house, having junk food, always into your phone or it can be as simple as not maintaining hygiene. Children learn by examples, so teach your kids by setting an example of your own. Indulge in healthy eating habits, bond together and exercise with them. Once they notice the amount of importance you place on a healthier and conscious lifestyle, they will slowly develop the habits as their own.

2. Cook And Exercise Together

If they help you in cooking meals, it can be as little as setting the table or handing you the ingredients, they will consider them a part of the whole process and will most likely eat the food they have help made. Similarly, put down your devices together and indulge in some offline detox before you sleep.

3. Snack Smart And Fix A Schedule

Now, we are all involved in having healthier main meal options, but interim snacks tend to get super unhealthy. Instead of unhealthy snacks, make tasty yet healthier options. You can make and store granola bars, make sandwiches or wraps from leftover veggies. Also, you can fix up a schedule for some cheat meals. Cheat meals once or twice a week are better than dedicating a day completely to cheat meals. Make an eating schedule beforehand for the week. Include their favourite options, light snacks, sugar treats, and healthy bites and let them decide which day they want what to eat!

4. Hide And Seek

Guise healthy ingredients in their favourite dish. Mask the flavour with a mix of ingredients to let them know they are having their favourite dish. For example, switch soy with potatoes in burger patty to make it healthier. Crush dry fruits and seeds and add them in the milk.

5. Balancing Is The Key

Enjoy ice lollies before a meal on a hot day, binging on nachos on movie night is okay. Don't get over paranoid or too strict. You don't want your kids to be deprived of these little joys and pleasures. Strike a balance with healthy food and treats, lazy Sundays and active on-the-go Tuesdays.

6. Talk It Out

Your kids must know the importance of a healthy lifestyle. And they shouldn't learn it from the science book, but you should introduce the importance at home. Simple things like sitting straight, brushing at night, having a proper sleep routine will help them in the longer run. Don't induce feat but talk about all the benefits they will reap in both the short and long run.

7. Be Patient With New Foods

When a child is growing, they are still trying to figure out their patterns, their appetite, taste, likes and dislikes. Sometimes they might not like something in the beginning but develop a taste later, so keep patient when experimenting or introducing new foods. Serve new foods along with your child's favourite foods. Keep serving your child healthy choices until they naturally form a part of his/herlikes.

Indian health platform wants to nourish mind, body and soul – CNN

But it has since transformed into one of India's top health platforms, with meal and grocery deliveries, online workouts, mindfulness classes, appointments at its health centers and even an online store for fitness gear.

The spread of coronavirus spurred the business to further reinvent itself, from one primarily reliant on physical gyms to an international online fitness platform.

This summer Cure.fit announced its digital expansion into the US, where it has begun offering online fitness and therapy sessions.

"Lockdown has expedited these efforts," Shamik Sharma, Cure.fit's head of international business, tells CNN Business. "When we saw the demand for our app in the United States, we launched rapidly," he adds.

Quick reaction to Covid-19

Like businesses all over the world, Cure.fit was forced to re-strategize in response to the pandemic.

Instead, lockdown has accelerated the company's pivot to online.

"When our gyms closed, we immediately knew that our customers would miss in-person classes so we created live classes through our app," says Sharma.

The Cure.fit app hosts more than 200,000 sessions daily in India, with instructor-led online classes ranging from strength to pilates, cardio and yoga.

During the pandemic, this platform has thrived. Since the start of India's lockdown, the company says it has signed up 1.5 million users in the country and amassed 100,000 paid subscribers since launching a paywall in May.

In the US, the company has reported 75,000 downloads since testing for the app began in May. Cure.fit currently offers its live sessions there for free, but plans to introduce a subscription model by the end of the year.

India's healthcare apps

This is primarily credited to technological advances, including falling device and mobile data costs, says Lalatendu Sahoo, a senior consultant at Netscribes.

"People are also becoming more and more health conscious," says Sahoo, particularly younger generations living in big cities. "They are more familiar with the internet, they're more comfortable with mobile devices ... and they are really trying to add the wellness factor into their day-to-day life," he adds.

Cure.fit wanted to attract this millennial market by selling a whole lifestyle through its range of food, therapy and fitness services.

"The idea was to build a one-stop solution for anything health and wellness," Ankit Nagori, who co-founded Cure.fit with Mukesh Bansal, tells CNN Business.

"We want to build a community of fitness enthusiasts who would like to lead a healthy lifestyle and promote healthy living," he adds.

She has an ongoing partnership with Food Network and will host additional series and specials with them this year and beyond. In addition to her television appearances, Hall hosts a podcast on the Wondery Platform called "Say Yes with Carla Hall." Hall's latest cookbook, "Carla Hall's Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration," was published in 2018, landing on annual "Best Cookbook" lists across the country and receiving an NAACP Image Awards nomination. Hall's passion for diversity in food culture, agriculture and equity in food access is rooted in her philosophy that food connects us all.

"As a chef, I have an opportunity to share my passion for food and mindful cooking with the world," says Carla Hall. "I'm excited to continue my work with 4-H in this new role and join their efforts to empower all young people as they navigate the effects of the ongoing pandemic, digital divide and widening opportunity gap," added Hall. "By providing youth and their communities across the country with access to hands-on learning experiences in food, nutrition and wellness, they'll all have an opportunity to develop healthy living skills for a lifetime, no matter their circumstances."

A Georgia native and 4-H alumnus, Dr. Robert Jones earned a bachelor's degree in agronomy from Fort Valley State College, a master's degree in crop physiology from the University of Georgia, and a doctorate in crop physiology from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He began his academic career as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota in 1978, where he spent 34 years before becoming the President of the University at Albany, one of SUNY system's leading research universities. Dr. Jones now serves as the first African-American Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

"It is no exaggeration to say that the first step in my career was joining my local 4-H club. Those meetings were the first organized events in my life outside of church or school and they set me on a course that changed the trajectory of my life," said Jones. "I found educational opportunities that opened up a world that I never knew existed. I believe that mission is even more vital and more critical today when limited access to childhood educational opportunities leads to unacceptable upper limits on a life and career. 4-H taught me to dream big. And it is my privilege to be able to pay that gift forward today," added Jones.

As Trustees, both Hall and Dr. Jones will support National 4-H Council's strategic priorities, which include growing investment and participation in Cooperative Extension's 4-H program from six million to 10 million youth by 2025 as well as a collaboration with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Given her focus on nutrition, Hall also plans to promote wellness, youth voice and hands-on skills development amongst young people.

"As passionate advocates for young people, agriculture and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, both Dr. Jones and Ms. Hall will move us even closer to our goal of providing all children with the opportunities they deserve so they can reach their full potential," says Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO of National 4-H Council. "Our new Trustees' expertise will help us to drive National 4-H Council's new campaign, Opportunity4All, which aims to rally support for Cooperative Extension's 4-H program and eliminate the opportunity gap that affects 55 million kids across America," added Sirangelo.

Carla Hall: Chef and Author Washington, D.C.Hall first won over audiences when she competed on Bravo's Top Chef and Top Chef: All Stars, where she shared her philosophy to always cook with love. She spent seven years co-hosting ABC's Emmy award winning, popular lifestyle series The Chew, and she currently appears as a Culinary Contributor on Good Morning America. In addition to her television appearances, Hall hosts a podcast on the Wondery Platform, Say Yes with Carla Hall. Her latest cookbook, Carla Hall's Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration, landed on annual 'Best Cookbook' lists across the country and received an NAACP Image Awards nomination.

Born in Nashville, TN, Hall graduated from Howard University's Business School and worked as an accountant for two years, before deciding to switch gears to work as a runway model. It was during that time, as she traveled through Europe, that she realized her deep-rooted passion for food could be her career path. Hall is very active with a number of charities and not-for-profit organizations that reflect her passion for causes close to her heart, in particular advocating for the physical and mental well being of children.

Dr. Robert Jones: Chancellor, University of Illinois at Urbana-ChampaignIllinoisDr. Jones became Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016, having previously served as President of the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY). A Georgia native who studied agronomy and crop physiology, Dr. Jones is an experienced and accomplished scientist and researcher, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and the Crop Science Society of America.

During his distinguished, 34-year career at the University of Minnesota, amongst other duties, Dr. Jones had administrative and budgetary responsibilities for the offices for public engagement, equity and diversity, and played a leadership role in establishing the nation's first urban research and outreach/engagement center (UROC), which was designed to help find a solution to complex challenges in economically depressed urban communities. The center was named in Dr. Jones' honor in 2015.

Health Wellness and protection can go hand-in-hand: BHARTI AXA Study – The Financial Express

According to a medical study, the risk of Indians contracting coronary heart disease is around 3 to 4 times higher than that of Americans.

With the lack of social bonding and the lopsided work-life balance accentuating anxiety level among urban Indians in the confinement period and triggering heart disease risks, the number of cardiovascular ailment cases is expected to increase exponentially amid the pandemic.

In fact, the COVID-19 led restrictions have heightened stress and hypertension among urban people in the absence of social bonding and networking and underscored heart complications in the past few months.

The health research findings of the increasing risks of heart disease during the pandemic are relevant for all of us. At the same time, buying comprehensive health insurance for oneself and family members is an equally important step because medical care is expensive. It creates health and financial security in the minds of people.

These revelations are found in a study conducted by Bharti AXA General Insurance which attempted to gain a better understanding into the psyche of the urban Indian consumers during the lockdown and its subsequent period.

On the World Heart Day, which aims to create more awareness around this unnoticed phenomenon, the Bharti AXA Health and Wellness Study aims to notify that cardiovascular disease risks are faced with a double-edged threat in the time of COVID-19 when people are more at risk of developing severe forms of the virus and they are not doing enough to seek care for their heart health.

As per an estimate by the World Health Organisation, with around 1.7 million deaths in 2016 being attributed to this dreaded ailment, heart disease is the leading cause of deaths in India. Lifestyle, diet, lack of sleep, weight, consumption of alcohol and unhealthy habits such as smoking are some of the immediate causes.

Similarly, according to a medical study, the risk of Indians contracting coronary heart disease is around 3 to 4 times higher than that of Americans, 6 times higher than the Chinese and 20 times higher than the Japanese.

We are living in unprecedented times. The need to be conscious and wary of our physical health and well-being has never been more crucial than it is now. Evident through this study, stress can be an invisible but major contributor to heart disorders as it is a leading cause of cardiovascular ailments. At Bharti AXA General, we take pride in going the extra mile to understand the challenges and experiences that people face in terms of their health and financial safety during these anomalous times, said Sanjeev Srinivasan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bharti AXA General Insurance.

The research study, which interacted with over 1,000 consumers aged over 18 years and above across multiple cities, revealed that older respondents seemed far more apprehensive about not being able to socialize. Almost 50% of respondents above the age of 45 experienced anxiety due to not being able to meet friends or family members as compared to only 36% of respondents between the age of 18 and 34.

Another aspect that emerged was that respondents from larger cities were comparatively more perturbed about not being able to meet their loved ones as compared to their smaller city counterparts. This was evident as 44% of respondents from Mumbai, 48% of respondents from Delhi and 44% of respondents from Bangalore confirmed being anxious about not meeting their friends or family members as compared to 36% of respondents from Jaipur, 27% of respondents from Lucknow and 35% of respondents from Pune.

A major finding with regard to individuals work-life balance, 40% of respondents from Ahmedabad, 50% of respondents from Jaipur and 36% of respondents from Lucknow were keen about adhering to strict deadlines about starting and ending their work days as compared to 33% of respondents from Delhi, 28% of respondents from Bangalore and only 27% of respondents from Mumbai. As many as 58% of respondents from Mumbai and 52% of respondents from Bangalore admitted that their working hours had increased due to no clear boundaries. Interestingly, a recent study noted that screen fatigue is causing strain epidemic among kids and work from home employees.

While comparing the focus on health among men and women, the study showed that 54% of men responded that they have either started or are maintaining an exercise routine as compared to 50% of women who claimed to be doing the same. Women who were handling both home and office were experiencing higher fatigue (53%) whereas men handling both these activities were claiming that they seem to have extra time for both work and home related chores (56%).

Srinivasan pointed out that World Heart Day is a reminder for organizations, communities and individuals to converse about increasing risks of heart ailments in the ongoing pandemic and wants us to be prudent in maintaining a healthy lifestyle amid growing challenges. This not only requires one to follow proper diets, get adequate sleep and avoid unhealthy habits but wants us to be cognizant of our mental health and lifestyle.

YouTuber Molly Burke Became Depressed After Losing Her Eyesight Here’s How She Coped – POPSUGAR

Image Source: Courtesy of Molly Burke

Molly Burke's YouTube channel is full of fun videos about fashion, beauty, and everyday life. Burke, who has amassed over two million subscribers on the platform and hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and TikTok, respectively, also posts informational footage about her blindness some address misconceptions and others discuss steps to making the world more accessible for those who are disabled.

Burke was legally blind from birth but lost the majority of her sight at age 14 due to retinitis pigmentosa, the breakdown of cells in the retina. She was diagnosed with situational depression, short-term depression resulting from a traumatic life event, which differs from clinical depression, after losing her vision. "My situational depression was triggered by my vision loss and the bullying that I was experiencing because of that," Burke told POPSUGAR. "And it led to me dealing with suicidal ideation." Burke attended five different schools growing up in Canada in the hopes of getting the best education for herself as a blind student and to escape that bullying.

"The bullying was a constant throughout my life, but once bullying was coupled with my vision loss, it just all became too much," Burke recalled. Being 14 is an overwhelming time for most newly minted teenagers as it is. "You're getting ready to transition to high school, and you're going through a lot of self-discovery, figuring out your own sense of style, starting to date, having puberty and hormone changes," she said. "So to then also be going blind was very difficult for me."

The journey to recover from her situational depression was exactly that: a journey "with ups and downs," as Burke described it. Working on all facets of health "mind, body, soul" was key. She found spirituality and started seeing a nutritionist "to fuel my body with foods that really built me up and made me strong." She also turned to fitness and yoga, specifically, and she went to therapy, her "safe space," to seek guidance from a psychologist, which lasted until she was 21.

Burke's outlet for her depression a healthy, positive way to express her emotions was writing music, singing, and being in a band, leading her to connect with fellow musicians. "We were a good ol' angsty punk rock band," she added (we both laughed at that). She worked through her depression, too, by learning to embrace herself, "so really exploring my own self, my interests, my likes and dislikes and owning them instead of doing what you're supposed to do to fit in."

Burke was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after an accident a few weeks following her 20th birthday where she almost broke her neck (she fell off a stage during a soundcheck for one of her speeches). "I was a full-time motivational speaker at the time, so the thing that I did every single day, all day, for a living suddenly became a source of trauma and fear for me," she said. To help heal from her PTSD, she specifically turned to talk therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Also at 20 years old, Burke was diagnosed with generalized anxiety with OCD tendencies. For her anxiety in particular, she copes through breathing techniques and making sure she gets proper nutrition (when her anxiety is triggered, she often has trouble eating, she explained). She went on and off anxiety medication up until recently as well.

Through it all, finding purpose has been a big component for Burke in tending to her mental health. This purpose, to her, is to "educate, motivate, or inspire one person every day with my story." She wants to break barriers for people living with disabilities because, she said, "I realized that I cannot be angry at society's ignorance towards me if I'm not willing to do anything to actively educate society to stop it."

Burke began public speaking when she was little, and she currently speaks on topics such as accessibility, bullying, and the social model of disability. This model of disability, which she learned at age 16 from a special-education teacher, differs from the medical model of disability that essentially tells those who are disabled that they are the problem. "The medical model of disability really puts a lot of the blame or the burden of guilt on the disabled person themselves, when really there's nothing we can do," she explained. "For many of us, it is incurable, and so to add a burden on top of an incurable condition, to feel like it is your fault, is very damaging." The social model says, instead, that it's society that is the problem.

Burke continued, "I think it's very hard to cultivate young, strong, disabled leaders if that's the mindset we build into them versus the social model that completely takes the burden, the guilt, the blame off of us as disabled people and says, 'You know what? It is us as a whole, as a society, that needs to improve and simply become accessible to all needs.'"

When it comes down to it, "the reality is waiting for a cure isn't living. Accepting who you are is living," Burke said. "You can accept who you are by walking away from the medical model and accepting the social model. It's just a far more empowering way to live."

If you are feeling anxious or depressed and need help finding help or resources, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (1-800-950-6264) have resources available. Also, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline has several resources and a 24/7 lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (slated to change to 988 in the future).

Whats Causing My Low Testosterone?

Low testosterone prevalence

Low testosterone (low T) affects 4 to 5 million men in the US.

Testosterone is an important hormone in the human body. But it starts to decrease each year after age 30. In some men this can be substantial. Between 19 and 39 percent of older men may have low levels of testosterone.

Older men with low T have increasingly sought testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in recent years. TRT addresses symptoms such as low libido, poor muscle mass, and low energy.

Its not just older men that are affected by low T. Young men, even babies and children, can also have this problem.

Low levels of testosterone that are atypical of normal aging are due to other primary or secondary causes of hypogonadism. Hypogonadism in males happens when the testicles dont produce enough testosterone. Hypogonadism can start during fetal development, during puberty, or during adulthood.

If hypogonadism begins during fetal development, the primary result is impaired growth of external sex organs. Depending on when hypogonadism starts and the level of testosterone present during fetal development, a male child can develop:

Normal growth can be jeopardized if hypogonadism occurs during puberty. Problems occur with:

Later in life, insufficient testosterone can lead to other problems. Symptoms include:

Fatigue and mental fogginess are some commonly reported mental and emotional symptoms in men with low T.

9 Warning signs of low testosterone

The two basic types of hypogonadism are primary and secondary hypogonadism.

Underactive testes cause primary hypogonadism. Thats because they dont manufacture sufficient levels of testosterone for optimal growth and health. This underactivity can be caused by an inherited trait. It can also be acquired by accident or illness.

Inherited conditions include:

Types of testicle damage that can lead to primary hypogonadism include:

Secondary hypogonadism is caused by damage to the pituitary gland or hypothalamus. These parts of the brain control hormone production by the testes.

Inherited or disease conditions in this category include:

Acquired circumstances that can lead to secondary hypogonadism include:

You may be affected by primary, secondary, or a mixed hypogonadism. Mixed hypogonadism is more common with increased age. People undergoing glucocorticoid therapy can develop the condition. It also can affect people with sickle-cell disease, thalassemia, or alcoholism.

Learn more: 5 Natural testosterone boosters

If youre experiencing symptoms of low T, lifestyle changes may help to ease your symptoms.

A good first step is increasing activity levels and maintaining a healthy diet in order to reduce body fat. It can also be helpful to avoid glucocorticoid medications such as prednisone as well as opioid pain medications.

Diet right: 8 Testosterone boosting foods

If lifestyle changes dont work for you, you may need to begin testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for treatment of low T. TRT can be very important for helping teenage males with hypogonadism experience normal masculine development. Sufficient testosterone levels help maintain health and well-being in adult males.

TRT has side effects, however, including:

A carefully formulated TRT treatment plan should avoid many of these undesirable side effects. Talk with your doctor to evaluate your options.

Covibesity May Be the Next Epidemic We Need to Tackle – The South Florida Times

During the initial days of the lockdown, a lot of people found that being at home left them with a lot of time to concentrate on their mental and physical wellbeing.

However, almost seven months into the lockdown, even the most committed of fitness enthusiasts have found themselves sliding down the wellness slope. Months of forced inactivity coupled with stressors like never-ending work hours, the burden of household chores and, taking care of the family and kids, has led to a dip in fitness levels and poor eating habits.

Studies say, stress often leads to comfort eating and is more prevalent among those who are unable to, or are less able to, express their feelings.

The lockdown has led to an increase in the consumption of unhealthy food and take-away orders in children, revealed a study bythe Department of Counselling, School and Educational Psychology, University at Buffalo.

Compared to data recorded last year, the children ate an additional meal a day; slept an extra half hour a day; added nearly five hours a day in front of the phone, computer and television screens; and dramatically increased their consumption of red meat, sugary drinks, and junk foods, it said.

I have people coming to me every day who say that they have put on 18-20 pounds during the lockdown, said Dr. Jasleen Kaur, a Delhi-based nutritionist. Pre-lockdown, we had a daily routine. We all had a fixed time of eating or going to the office or coming back. Now, when we sit idle, all we think about is what to eat. We find comfort in food.

The spike in the number of such cases has been so high that a new term, Covibesity (rising obesity during the pandemic), has been coined by theNational Center for Biotechnology Information. It is being regarded as the new pandemic.

COVID-19 has had collateral effects, which extend beyond just the direct viral infection. People from all age groups, who were already struggling with obesity, were isolated. This fueled inactivity and a lack of motivation. Apart from attending online classes or working, youngsters are glued to the screen playing games or watching web content.

The food industry has noticed the increase in screen time and intensified online advertisement, focusing on children and young adults, noted a study byNielsen.

Dr. Naini Setalvad, a Mumbai-based nutritionist, blamed the lockdown for the increased obesity among individuals.

Tedious online schooling, increased screen time, lack of movement and eating with distractions like the TV, mobile and computer, causes more food consumption, she said. The ability to order food at any time of the day is also worrisome. Convenience foods are increasing as the house and office workload is also high.

Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, recently announced that September 2020 would be observed as nutrition month to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition. Diseases such as obesity and cardiovascular ailments and related illnesses are caused by malnourishment or lack of proper nourishment. In India, malnourishment and obesity are also linked with cultural, economic, and caste factors.

Indias eating habits are strongly influenced by casteist notions of purity/pollution, clean/unclean. These are the factors that govern eating practices, said Dr. Sylvia Karpagam, a public health doctor and researcher. While the rich will tend to imitate the West and eat highly processed junk food, the poor will be forced (by bad policies) to eat just cereals and millets, without additional good quality protein and sources of vitamins and minerals. So, obesity is bound to increase.

Karpagam believes the lockdown aggravated such habits because the middle class, sitting at home, has been snacking on lots of sugary and oily foods with carbohydrate-rich cereals/potatoes as the base.

Even the vegetarians need to plan their diets by cutting down on sugars, cheap vegetable oils, cereals, and millets, said Karpagam. They will have to consume more dairy products like cottage cheese, yogurt and milk, and more vegetables.

Caste and culture have influenced the eating habits in India. Meat and eggs, which are the best sources of protein, are looked down upon.

The caste system has played havoc on peoples eating choices, criminalizing not just animal foods but those who consume such foods as well, saidKarpagam.

There is enough evidence to show that good-quality protein is essential for growth and development. Most Indians do not get access to this. This is the major cause of stunting, under-nutrition and non-communicable diseases. Vegetarians consume animal foods such as dairy, but those in positions of power, tend to push cheap vegetarianism (mainly cereal and millets) on predominantly meat-eating communities. All these factors add up to creating barriers to good nutritious food. Unless these basic issues are addressed, and the government at least starts providing eggs to children and other vulnerable people, nutrition is only going to deteriorate.

Despite It All, Avatar 2 Has Wrapped Production – Vanity Fair

For most Hollywood filmmakers right now, a shooting day is the true unobtanium. But self-proclaimed King of the World James Cameron has managed to call thats a wrap! in the age of coronavirus. He has announced that, despite numerous obstacles, the sequel to his 2009 mega-success Avatar is 100 percent done filming, and the third installment in the series is about 95 percent complete.

The visionary sci fi director appeared on a video call with his old cybernetic pal Arnold Schwarzenegger for the Austrian World Summit, part of the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative. Other speakers include the U.N. Secretary General Antnio Guterres, Prince Charles, Mayor Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Jane Goodall, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, and others.

Camerons return to Pandora has been met with eight different release day changes, but his crew in New Zealand have come out the other side. We lost about four and a half months of production, he said.

We've rolled around one more full year for a release in December of 2022, he said. Now that doesn't mean I have an extra year to finish the film, he added, lest physical fitness enthusiast Schwarzenegger think his old boss would then sit on the couch eating Pringles and streaming Pluto TV. The day we deliver Avatar 2 well just start working on finishing Avatar 3.

The 2009 film Avatar was the first to surpass the $2 billion mark at the box office. It also ushered in a now mostly-abated resurgence of 3D filmmaking. Its final $2,790,439,092 tally was eventually surpassed in worldwide gross by Avengers: Endgame, by a little over seven million. (Cameron can lick his wounds, though, knowing he doesnt just have the silver medal, but also the bronze with a little picture called Titanic.)

In the conversation with Schwarzenegger, which was mostly about climate change and cutting edge technology, Cameron said he was not an environmentalist in the sense of having credentials or a degree, but he considers himself an environmental advocate. Schwarzenegger said that it was Cameron who first brought environmental issues to his attention back in the 1980s when they made the first Terminator film. Cameron discussed the negative environmental impact of eating meat, sharing an anecdote about explaining vegetarianism from a Econ 101 point-of-view to Rupert Murdoch.

Cameron declined to give any story information about the Avatar sequels (or as Schwarzenegger calls it, Ovitahhh), citing his "love for the mystery," but made it clear that his friend Arnold was welcome to come down and see the studio any time. It's clear that these two men have a great affection for one another.

After the riots, what then? – Monroe Evening News

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, rioting can be fun and profitable. Aside from that, what is the end game? I think we can agree that the chief organizers of riots, Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA are the militant wings of the far left in this country, so what is it they want?

BLM was founded by self-proclaimed Marxists whose goal has been, ever since Karl Marx wrote his manifesto, to seize power in the name of some aggrieved group (or groups - originally it was the workers of the world, now it is a grab-bag of intersectionally oppressed). All Marxists want to seize power first, then remake society in their image, an image that nowhere includes God.

Depending on the country and the times, that image varies. Marxism as practiced by Bolsheviks in Russia was different from that practiced by Maoists in China, or Castroites in Cuba. It also must be borne in mind that Marxism is a subset of socialism, thus what Bernie Sanders has in mind is going to differ in some respects from BLM. All socialists, of whatever flavor, believe in an authoritarian state which will deal out justice (and punish wickedness) by whatever means necessary. Those 15% of you who are, according to Biden, "not very good people," or Hillarys "basket of deplorables" might be a touch nervous. Marxists everywhere have known how to deal with the likes of you.

Consider some of the goals being espoused here and now. One of BLMs explicit goals is to destroy the nuclear family. How that helps Black lives is not entirely clear to me, since Black nuclear families are largely gone already. So I guess that leaves white, Asian, and other non-Black families to be destroyed, although the past half century has done a good job of gradually destroying ALL nuclear families.

BLM just needs to be patient. Patience is not, however, a conspicuous virtue of rioters, so how exactly is this destruction to take place? The "why," however, has always been clear to Marxists. The nuclear family is a little state within a state, and as such is a competing power structure with the state. No competition can be allowed.

Your guns will be confiscated, since an armed citizenry is dangerous to an all powerful state. Our Founding Fathers made clear why the Second Amendment was in the Constitution. It must be removed. Likewise the First Amendment. Speech must be controlled, as many colleges and universities now put into practice. Business and industry is now following suit. Nice little job you got there, until you say the wrong thing. Then you get canceled.

Contemporary American Marxists are also green - a practice they picked up from the Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party and its founder. Wind power, vegetarianism and public transport over private cars were among those principals being advocated. Traditionally Marxists only cared about production and redistribution of wealth, which is no longer a viable political platform.

So what's ANTIFA up to? It is not an explicitly Marxist group, or indeed explicitly anything, or even an organized group. They are more than anything else anarchists. Anarchists historically (the term dates back to 1539, to mean an absence of government) have been a loosely affiliated assortment of folks very, very angry about just about everything in the society in which they find themselves. Mindless, inchoate rage seems to fit the pattern. As a result of being a movement having no goals, it has nowhere seized power.

This does not mean that anarchists are harmless as, say, anarcho-capitalists are. Anarchists like to break things and kill people, very like grownup children throwing a tantrum. This is often justified as "propaganda of the deed."

Since actions speak louder than words, assassinating prominent figures, or burning down cities, sends a clear message that defying anarchists is an extremely unwise action. President McKinley was assassinated by an anarchist, as were many members of European royalty either shot, stabbed or blown up.

Yet, it is hard for me to see clearly the specific goals of the militant wing of the left, but I am sure I'm not going to like them.

‘I was more afraid of living with HIV than dying from it’ – Telegraph.co.uk

Matthew Hodson, 53, lives in Clapham with his husband. He is the Executive Director of NAM aidsmap, a charity providing information and news for people living with HIV and medical professionals

I found out I was HIV positive on the 30th of April, 1998. At the time, there were new drugs that could treat HIV but they had side effects, which could include visible symptoms such as facial wasting and buffalos hump. So, I didnt expect to live to 50 but I was almost more scared of having to carry the physical indications of living with HIV than I was of dying.

Were now much better at appropriate dosing and side effects are rare (in fact, the UK is a world leader in the treatment of HIV). Ive been on treatment since 2003 I take three pills every day and the levels of virus in my blood are undetectable, which means I cant pass it on to sexual partners. I feel fitter and stronger than I ever have.

I wasnt particularly into fitness in my 20s and 30s, other than being vain about my body. I used to be an actor and my biggest connection with physical fitness was once playing the role of a fitness fanatic.

But getting old is frightening and I got serious about exercising when I hit 40, more for my emotional health than anything else. I have been noting down my gym sessions since 2009 and they always increase when Im going through challenging times, such as when my father died and then again when my mother died last year.

Pre-lockdown I would go to the gym three times a week and do heavy lifting. I was training for visible results, but two years ago, I got a fitness coach and he has taught me to balance my body with things like back exercises.

Since March, Ive been doing threeto four workouts a week at home. I had some weights and have since added resistance bands.

Im not planning to go back to the gym for now its too high risk an environment. Even though people with HIV are not considered vulnerable, having seen friends get Covid quite severely, I want to avoid all the risk I can.

Pre-lockdown I had a place on the London Marathon and was in week ten of my training. I have continued running outside two or three times a week for between 30 and 90 minutes. Running is my thinking space; the time I process problems. Its therapeutic except when I have to do interval training, which I loathe because its hurts. But its effective. Im gutted that I wont run the Marathon this year but still hope to run it in 2021.

I stopped eating red meat when I was 17. I still eat fish and poultry. Im convinced by the ideological arguments of vegetarianism and veganism I just havent taken that step yet. Ive reduced animal produce significantly in my diet though.

Breakfast:Bowl of muesli, blackberries from the garden and oat milk.

Lunch:Baked potato with olive oil, butter substitute with cheese and/or mustard

Dinner:Roasted duck breast and vegetables, chicken stir fry, warm salad of butternut squash with courgette and goats cheese or spaghetti bolognese made with turkey mince. Fresh fruit.

Alcohol:More than the recommended units. And, it got worse under lockdown. Wine or vodka mostly.

Sugar: If theres chocolate in the house I will eat it.

Sleep: I struggle with stress and anxiety and that affects my sleep so I usually get about 5-6 hours. If Im anxious in the day, I might occasionally take a sleep aid such as Nytol before bed.

Guilty pleasure I dont feel guilty about anything.
