How healthcare has been transformed post covid by technology – Medium

Covid although causing considerable distress but has also allowed innovation in healthcare to be greatly accelerated. The regulatory framework has helped fast track new ideas and solutions. Telecare and total triage have helped patients access their doctors remotely and at their convenience improving access. Telemedicine consultations have increased by over 5000% and changed the doctor-patient interaction. Vaccine development had taken 10 -15years prior to the pandemic and has been shortened to less than a year with rapid design and delivery of clinical trials. Covid supplies were delivered to remote areas using drones. Accurate real-time vital sign measurements, including heart rate and oxygen saturation could be measured via an app using AI-powered light signal processing technology to convert light reflected from blood vessels in the face. Smart stethoscopes were developed that both listen to patients hearts and transmit images of the lungs. Virtual reality was introduced to support training. Robots were introduced to sterilise rooms and offer support to patients. The key to this has been collaboration with industry and healthcare providers coming together at the time of need to share different skill sets. The pandemic is a global problem and the world has responded by sharing global solutions and hopefully this allows the new normal to help springboard health into the future.

Exponential technologies and the digital transformation of health

The world is at an inflection point with exponential technologies converging to help reimagine and reinvent healthcare. Technologies like AI, Robotics, 3D Printing, Gene sequencing/editing, immersive technologies, 5G connectivity, remote sensors, nanobiotechnology offer interlocking building blocks to help prevent illness, monitor physiology, improve diagnosis and offer new treatment modalities. There have been 3 windows to humanity. Copernicus discovered the telescope as a window into the universe. The microscope has helped us understand the intricacies of the human body. Data, the third window is now helping understand and build a personalised approach to medicine. Patients with chronic diseases will be managed more remotely with access to their data and therefore empowering them to be involved in their health. Rare diseases are now being sequences and whole genomic data become available on a national scale which will help understand population health. Drones are delivering medical equipment across cities and 3d printing is allowing the planning of treatment and implant of devices. Eventually this may lead to the production of a bioengineered organs. 5G with its low latency and fast bandwidth will help with remote surgery across continents and smart ambulances bringing valuable support to the roadside. The development of chatbots, digital twins and digital humans will ask important questions on what the future interaction between a patient and doctor may look like.

The Future of medical education

Medical education is going through a paradigm shift as technology enhanced learning are enabling hybrid models of delivering quality education. We have moved from papyrus to books to eLearning/online platforms. More recently tele platforms have become the normal. The pandemic has forced new ways of delivering clinical medicine. The future will encompass more traditional models converted to using augmented, virtual and mixed reality. Students will be trained more remotely with classrooms replaced by virtual rooms. Anatomy dissection will be enhanced digitally, clinical ward rounds can be supported by mixed reality and surgical operations will be viewed in virtual reality with more interactivity allowing teachers to be hundreds of miles away or even on the other side of the world. This will allow the democratisation of education that will allow every student to access world class education breaking down the barriers of cost and location. The adage of see one do one, teach one will be superseded by simulation using CGI or real time images thereby supporting training of practical procedures. Digital Health, entrepreneurship and innovation needs to be at the heart of any new curriculum to produce the digital doctor of tomorrow.

Education 4.0 will allow clinical teaching to use all of the available platforms for a richer experience.

The Metaverse

In October 2017, I entered and embraced the metaverse for the first time from my operating theatre from the Royal London Hospital. I had created my avatar and joined surgeons from London, India and the US. We were able to interact in the virtual world across three continents and three time zones simultaneously. We shared assets like CT scans, X-rays and 3d models to discuss the patient during live surgery. Imagine a world where a surgeon could call on help when required by simply transitioning from the real to the virtual world, allowing the true democratisation of healthcare.

In his 1992 book Snow Crash, American author Neal Stephenson introduced the term metaverse, referring to the 3D visual space occupied by lifelike human avatars. People in this dystopian future wear realistic mirrors to connect with the digital world! In Silicon Valley, it is a well-known novel. Metaverse is an all-encompassing 3D visual space shared by everyone. The metaverse can be thought of as a cluster of connected earths, just as the visible universe is a group of planets connected to space. Can the metaverse become a part of the healthcare system of the future?

Digital Surgery

Surgery is moving rapidly from analogue to a digital interface. The new 5 pillars of digital surgery are connected care, robotics, data analytics/AI, surgical navigation and remote collaboration. Over the last 20 years we have seen enhanced visualisation and improved fine dexterity allowing surgeons to manipulate a robot with the potential improvement in outcomes for the patients. The robot wars in 2022 are allowing more access and flexibility in offering minimal access surgery. By having large amounts of real time data during an operation by using analytics will also aid surgeons to assess their performance and move away from subjective methods of performance to a more robust and transparent process. For decades surgical acumen has been only facilitated by personal judgement. The use of artificial intelligence and computer vision will allow surgical navigation during a procedure allowing surgeons an intraoperative map to help avoid damage to important structures and ensuring cancers can be removed in their entirety to allow a potential cure. Preoperative planning will be supported by mixed reality headsets to overlay images on the patient to improve accuracy and decision making. Remote telemonitoring will be possible due to the power of connectivity with 5G allowing surgeons across the world to support global training and improve standards.

AI in healthcare

Artificial intelligence and deep machine learning is changing the face of medicine and may be the most important technology to be integrated into healthcare. AI has promised hope which has been followed by much hype. We are now witnessing the reality of real time applications of AI. AI can enhance clinical productivity due to its ability to handle a large capacity of tasks that are well suited for automation. AI can reduce the burden of clerical work of doctors thus improving the quality of care and allow them to spend more time with patients and the healthcare team

The collection of good quality data is a pre requisite for an algorithm to produce meaningful conclusions and outputs. This data includes patient biometrics, natural language and operational data. The outcomes have been to improve early detection/triage, diagnosis, disease management and monitoring diseases and wellbeing. Analysis of images has been well researched with AI algorithms diagnosing abnormalities on chest xrays and CT scans with over 90% accuracy. Dermatology is being supported by smart AI to help diagnose skin cancers. Drug development has been accelerated by molecular identification and targeting. Protein folding has been unravelled using powerful AI. Chatbots and intelligent conversation engines are helping with triage and stratifying risk.

However, the ethics need to be considered as there also inherent risks of AI with false prediction and the inappropriate use of patient data. This needs careful debate and patient engagement to ensure that AI is safely and responsible implemented.

Establishing Nanoparticle Purity with Thermal Analysis – AZoNano

Nanomaterials are a significant and diversified class of materials with use in nearly every major economic sector, including production, health, and power. Every year, the use of synthesized nanoparticles in consumer items grows rapidly.

Within industrial production or research laboratories environment, thermo-analytical analyses are frequently used to provide precise data on nanomaterials, such as insinuating material composition and nanoparticle purity, as well as crystallinityand formation kinetics of nanoparticles.

Before implementing nanoparticles in anyprocess, the most crucial factor in evaluating isnanoparticle purity. Thermal analysis is an efficient method for assessing the purity of nanoparticles by decomposing the material with little specimen preparation.

Nanoparticle modifications, such as the insertion of surface properties, can also be evaluated between chemical changes. Identifying the chemical constituents of nanoparticles, particularly during production and fabrication, is a key aspect in assessing nanomaterial purity.

Some nanomaterials are synthesized using solution-based techniques, in which components combine to form the product, with nanoparticles developing as the substance crystallizes. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and physical vapor deposition (PVD) are used to make other nanoparticles.

Some nanoparticle production processes rely on the trapping of other molecules, resulting in nanoparticle productionwith undetermined contents. In these circumstances, knowing how much of each constituent is present is critical for establishing nanoparticle purity.

TGA can be utilizedto determine the final concentration of nanoparticles by examining their constituents (mass percentage of each component). Centrifugation or other strategies must be used to separate the nanoparticle substances from the encapsulating solvent.

Increasing the temperatureand comparing the combustion thermal transitions to pure components can reveal its chemical composition.Information about nanoparticle morphology and size may be required to determine total mass loss per nanoparticle using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) or differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). DSC and TGA can be used to determine the purity of synthesized nanomaterials by comparing them to standards.

TGA is one of the fastest ways for determining the relative amounts of pure carbon, bonded hydrocarbons, structured carbon, and heterogeneous catalyst particles in a carbon nanotube (CNT) sample material.

Amorphous carbons oxidizeat around 200 C., single-wall CNTsat 400 C., multi-wall CNTs at 600 C., and anything above 650 degrees Celsius is due to a solid catalyst and its oxidants.

TGA can offer a measurement of purity for CNT particles by calculating the amount of the material that degrades at a suitable temperature range. TGA is also useful for evaluating the thermal behaviorof carbon nanotubes in an oxidizing atmosphere.

Thermal analysis offers a variety of benefits that make it a useful complement to other nanomaterials analytical techniques. Nanoparticle sample preparation (i.e., specimen quantity) is typically minimal, and no additional changes such as luminous labeling are required to implement the examination. TGA, DSC, and other colorimetry methods are among the techniques that can be used.

Thermal analysis can be used in industrial settings to investigate the purityof nanoparticles because industrial equipment is accessible and interpretation of the data is often simple. The purityof nanoparticles may be determined rapidly in the lab with little specimen preparation, and the findings can be matched to other analytical techniques for extra assurance.

Thermal techniques can also be used to detect activities that might alter nanoparticle purity, such as when the nanoparticle is subjected to liquid or a biological environment. As more complex synthesis procedures are used, the dynamics of nanoparticle excitons are becoming increasingly essential. Nanoparticle systems, such as nanostructured materials, can have their composition and reaction kinetics compared to their nanoparticle content and purity.

One technology that is making development in the implementation of nanomaterial products is nano-calorimetry. Nano-calorimetry is a sensor-basedsystem able to measure samples of nanoliters in volume or milligrams to nanograms in weight with a precision of less than five nW for measuring transition temperature.

Analyses of as-produced specimens and their relationship with the environment, as well as contacts between nanomaterials and organisms, are achievable because of the small sample volumes, which is essential in the field of nanomedicine.

TGA has also made significant progress in terms of delivering nanoscale breakdown information. Microscale TGAcanbe used to detect CNT deterioration, as well as quantitative investigations of coating on gold and quartz nanoparticles. Thedata obtainedcan be linked to traditional TGA or other analytical results.

For the investigation of nanomaterials and applications incorporating nanoparticles, thermal analysis approaches are now extensively used. To make thermal analysis techniques more suited for nanoparticle systems, upgrades should be considered. It is critical to be able to minimizesample sizes, increase susceptibility, and evaluate nanomaterial-matrix interaction. Due to recent improvements in thermos-analytical techniques, nanoparticle evaluation on small scales is now attainable.

Transhumanism: The Most Dangerous Idea? – Reason.com

"What ideas, if embraced, would pose the greatest threat to the welfare of humanity?" That question was posed to eight prominent policy intellectuals by the editors of Foreign Policy in its September/October issue (not yet available online). One of the eight savants consulted was Francis Fukuyama, professor of international political economy at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, author of Our Posthuman Future: Consequences of the Biotechnology Revolution, and a member of the President's Council on Bioethics. His choice for the world's most dangerous idea? Transhumanism.

In his Foreign Policy article, Fukuyama identifies transhumanism as "a strange liberation movement" that wants "nothing less than to liberate the human race from its biological constraints." Sounds ominous, no? But wait a minute, isn't human history (and prehistory) all about liberating more and more people from their biological constraints? After all, it's not as though most of us still live in our species' "natural state" as Pleistocene hunter-gatherers.

Human liberation from our biological constraints began when an ancestor first sharpened a stick and used it to kill an animal for food. Further liberation from biological constraints followed with fire, the wheel, domesticating animals, agriculture, metallurgy, city building, textiles, information storage by means of writing, the internal combustion engine, electric power generation, antibiotics, vaccines, transplants, and contraception. In a sense, the goal toward which humanity has been striving for millennia has been to liberate ourselves from more and more of our ancestors' biological constraints.

What is a human capacity anyway? Biologist Richard Dawkins has propounded the notion of an extended phenotype. Genes not only mold the bodies of organisms but also shape their behaviors. Some of those behaviors result in the creation of inanimate objects that help organisms to survive and reproduce, such as beaver dams and bird nests.

Our ancestors had no wings; now we fly. Our ancient forebears could not hear one another over 1,000 miles; now we phone. And our Stone Age progenitors averaged 25 years of life; now we live 75. Thanks to our knack for technological innovation, humanity has by far the largest extended phenotype of all creatures on planet Earth. Nothing could be more natural to human beings than striving to liberate ourselves from biological constraints.

But Fukuyama would undoubtedly respond that Pleistocene hunter-gatherers are still recognizably human, no different in their innate capacities than people living today. What transhumanists seek is very different. They want to go beyond current innate human capacities. They want to change human bodies and brains.

Of course, humans have been deliberately changing their bodies through athletic training and their brains through schooling. Nevertheless, Fukuyama has a point. Can one be so transformed by technology as to be no longer human? "Our good characteristics are intimately connected to our bad ones: If we weren't violent and aggressive, we wouldn't be able to defend ourselves; if we didn't have feelings of exclusivity, we wouldn't be loyal to those close to us; if we never felt jealousy, we would also never feel love," asserts Fukuyama. He seems to be arguing that to be a human being one must possess all of the emotional capacities characteristic of our species. If biotechnological manipulations removed our ability to feel emotions like anger, hate, or violence, we would in some sense not be human beings any more.

Let's say that future genetic engineers discover a gene for suicidal depression, and learn how to suppress the gene, or adjust it. Would fixing it make subsequent generations non-human beings? After all, most people today do not fall into suicidal depressions, and those happy people are no less human than, say, Sylvia Plath.

Depression can already be fixed for many people by means of Prozac or Paxil. Surely, taking serotonin re-uptake inhibitors does not make people other or less than human. Sufferers of depression will tell you that the drugs restore them to their true selves. It seems unreasonable to claim that in order to qualify as human beings, we all must have the capacity to succumb to berserker rage or religious ecstasy.

"The first victim of transhumanism might be equality," writes Fukuyama. "If we start transforming ourselves into something superior, what rights will these enhanced creatures claim, and what rights will they possess when compared to those left behind?" Fukuyama seems to be entertaining an X-Men-like fantasy in which enhanced posthumans seek to destroy unenhanced naturals. But where Fukuyama is a bit coy, left-leaning bioethicists George Annas, Lori Andrews, and Rosario Isasi are brutally blunt:

The new species, or "posthuman," will likely view the old "normal" humans as inferior, even savages, and fit for slavery or slaughter. The normals, on the other hand, may see the posthumans as a threat and if they can, may engage in a preemptive strike by killing the posthumans before they themselves are killed or enslaved by them. It is ultimately this predictable potential for genocide that makes species-altering experiments potential weapons of mass destruction, and makes the unaccountable genetic engineer a potential bioterrorist.

Let's take their over-the-top scenario down a notch or two. The enhancements that are likely to be available in the relatively near term to people now living will be pharmacologicalpills and shots to increase strength, lighten moods, and improve memory. Consequently, such interventions could be distributed to nearly everybody who wanted them. Later in this century, when safe genetic engineering becomes possible, it will enable parents to give their children beneficial genes for improved health and intelligence that other children already get naturally. Thus, safe genetic engineering in the long run is more likely to ameliorate than to exacerbate human inequality.

In any case, political equality has never rested on the facts of human biology. In prior centuries, when humans were all "naturals," tyranny, slavery, and purdah were common social and political arrangements. In fact, political liberalism is already the answer to Fukuyama's question about human and posthuman rights. In liberal societies the law is meant to apply equally to all, no matter how rich or poor, powerful or powerless, brilliant or stupid, enhanced or unenhanced.

The crowning achievement of the Enlightenment is the principle of tolerance, of putting up with people who look differently, talk differently, worship differently, and live differently than we do. In the future, our descendants may not all be natural homo sapiens, but they will still be moral beings who can be held accountable for their actions. There is no reason to think that the same liberal political and moral principles that apply to diverse human beings today wouldn't apply to relations among future humans and posthumans.

But what if enhanced posthumans took the Nietzschean superman option? What if they really did see unenhanced people "as inferior, even savages, and fit for slavery or slaughter"?

Let's face it, plenty of unenhanced humans have been quite capable of believing that millions of their fellow unenhanced humans were inferiors who needed to be eradicated. However, as liberal political institutions have spread and strengthened, they have increasingly restrained technologically superior groups from automatically wiping out less advanced peoples (which was usual throughout most of history). I suspect that this dynamic will continue in the future as biotechnology, nanotechnology, and computational technologies progressively increase people's capabilities and widen their choices.

In his famous book The End of History and the Last Man, Fukuyama declared that we are witnessing "the end point of mankind's ideological evolution and the universalization of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government." Fair enough. But for Fukuyama, the end of history is a "sad time" because "daring, courage, imagination, and idealism will be replaced by economic calculation." Also, he claims, "in the post-historical period there will be neither art nor philosophy, just the perpetual caretaking of the museum of human history." How ironic that Fukuyama now spends his time demonizing transhumanism, a nascent philosophical and political movement that epitomizes the most daring, courageous, imaginative, and idealistic aspirations of humanity.

"The environmental movement has taught us humility and respect for the integrity of nonhuman nature. We need a similar humility concerning our human nature. If we do not develop it soon, we may unwittingly invite the transhumanists to deface humanity with their genetic bulldozers and psychotropic shopping malls," concludes Fukuyama. I say, bring on those genetic bulldozers and psychotropic shopping malls that help people to live healthier, smarter, and happier lives.

I have my own nomination for an "idea [that], if embraced, would pose the greatest threat to the welfare of humanity": Banning technological progress in the name of "humility."

The Vaccine Is Killing Millions of People

The number of people dying from the Covid vaccines is being covered up. The official numbers are in the tens of thousands, which is more than enough to halt all covid vaccines on the planet. The actual number of people injured or dead after receiving the vaccine is already in the millions. And all the vaccinated are expected to die from the vaccine within a few years.

The statistics are being distorted to hide the genocide. Now if someone dies within 14 days of receiving the vaccine they are considered to be unvaccinated. And if they have only received one shot, they are also considered to be unvaccinated.

The hospitals are full of the vaccinated with vaccine side effects. There still is no virus. There is no delta, just vaccine injuries.

Whistleblowers testify that there were no excess deaths in 2020 at all, and as soon as they started the vaccine campaign, deaths increased and all were vaccinated.

Millions of people have been injured for life or murdered within days of receiving the death shot so called vaccine.

Thousands of medical professionals that are upholding their oath to do no harm, have spoken out against the vaccines due to the injuries and deaths they have witnessed in the vaccinated.

And on the other side, thousands of medical professionals are complicit in genocide and have violated the Nuremberg Code. Not providing information on the side effects and risk factors, or the full ingredient list to people makes it impossible for them to give informed consent. If found guilty they could be sentenced to death.

THE REAL REVOLUTION = UNITYREVERSE THE CONTROLPYRAMID

The real revolution that is needed is being hijacked by the corrupt few, the elite, the satanic cabal, the 1% that have funded fake revolutionary groups.

Trading one group of few people over another group of few people is not the revolution we need. The real revolution that this planet needs is the global population, uniting and demanding the reversal of the control pyramid. The masses must unite in a global voice and build our utopia that benefits the many, not the few.

This is the perfect time to break free from the same old bullshit that promotes genocide, war, famine, the 1% satanists stealing 800,000 kids per year for their Adrenocrome addiction. It is time for a real revolution away from the sick few controlling billions of people.

We need to scrap all forms of control by any few.

If the many were in control they would choose what benefits themselves, therefore what benefits the interests of the many, not only the few. This is the solution = UNITY

A simple connection of every person on the planet. A unity of our global voice. Where we can all ask ourselves life changing questions for the benefit of the human race and every species on this planet and beyond. And vote on them to be implemented.

THIS IS THE KEY SOLUTION: We must invert the control pyramid to take the power of the few away. And that means ANY FEW. No small group of people should control the many, ever.

Huge Victory For Humanity As Khazarian Mafias Long-planned 666 Offensive Was Stopped Dead In Its Tracks

The forces of light scored a huge victory against the Khazarian Satanists as their long-planned 2020/06/06/06 offensive was stopped dead in its tracks, multiple sources agree. Instead of massive bloodshed involving armed demonstrators (million man occupation of the white house) and the U.S. military, there was a small, peaceful march against racism. This was because the armed saboteurs and their financial backers were all rounded up before their planned climax of mayhem, Pentagon sources say.

The plan that was stopped, aimed to use massive bloodshed to replace the Republic of the United States with a draconian totalitarian government. As Rothschild front man George Soros, told Bild Magazine in September 2014:

Im going to bring down the U.S. by funding black hate groups. Well put them into a mental trap and make them blame white people. The black community is the easiest to manipulate.

Note: attempts to label this quote as fake appear at the top of internet searches such as Lead Stories but NSA sources say its real.

The plan nearly worked as the death of African American George Floyd triggered huge, coordinated acts of looting and vandalism all over the United States.

U.S. military intelligence says the rioting was stopped only after over a thousand armed looters were shot. In addition, U.S. and Russian Special Forces teams went around hunting down and killing the financiers and Khazarian agents stoking the flames. Also, on June 5th U.S. military White Hats found and disarmed three nuclear devices, seized countless pipe-bombs, and arrested two snipers, according to NSA sources. Read article here

FALSE: COVID-19 vaccines eliminate ‘God Particle’ in the body – Rappler

The laws of physics makes it impossible for the vaccines to eliminate or affect the Higgs Boson particle, known in media as the God Particle

A Facebook post published on January 11 by Facebook page Filipino Future falsely claims that COVID-19 vaccines remove the God Particle in the body.

The posts caption has a line that reads: More variants, more shots. Para ano? Para makumpleto ang pag eliminate ng God Particle sa katawan mo, at trabahuin ng mRNA ang pag create ng new strains of tissues na magpapangyari upang ihanda ka sa transhumanism goal ng mga Elitista.

(More variant, more shots. For what? To complete the elimination of the God Particle in your body and to allow mRNA to create new strains of tissues that will prepare you for the transhumanism goal of the elitists.)

The post also defined the God Particle in the line that reads: What is the God Particle? Ito yong mark of God sa DNA ng tao, yong conscience mo, yong naka tanim sa bawat hibla ng tissues ng katawan mo. (What is the God Particle? Its the mark of God in the DNA of humans, your conscience, its in every fiber of the tissues of your body.)

The post has over 300 reactions, 150 comments, and 250 shares on Facebook, as of writing.

This claim is false.

COVID-19 vaccines cannot do anything to eliminate or even affect particles like the Higgs Boson, known in media as the God Particle, due to the limitations of the laws of physics.

The term God Particle was coined by Nobel Laureate for Physics Leon M. Lederman in his book The God Particle: If the Universe is the Answer, What is the Question? originally published in 1993.

The term is used to refer to the sub-atomic particle that gives all particles their mass, which is technically called the Higgs Boson, named after theoretical physicist and Nobel Laureate Peter Higgs. The Higgs Boson was first observed on July 4, 2012.

The European Center for Nuclear Research says that sub-atomic particles are so small that they are governed by either the strong or the weak nuclear force and are described by the quantum theory. Meanwhile, any matter that is larger than atoms is governed by gravity and is described by the general theory of relativity.

These differences do not allow sub-atomic particles to interact with the macro world, and physicists have not yet fit the two into a single framework. The difference in models also explains why sub-atomic particles cannot interact with normal matter.

Dr. Don Lincoln, a senior scientist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, told Rappler that there is no credible link between the sub-atomic world and vaccines.

Lincoln explained that removing the Higgs Field from an object or a body would instantly make its atoms infinitely large because it is responsible for the mass of every matter in the universe. The Higgs Field is the associated field of the Higgs Boson particle.

No Higgs field means that atoms become infinitely large. If the Higgs field disappeared in the body, youd evaporate or explode, depending on how fast the Higgs field disappeared. Given that there are no reports of post-vaccine explosions or disappearances, I think we can dispel this claim, Lincoln said.

According to the World Health Organization, vaccines work by triggering an immune response in the body to fight a specific virus.

Why Arca lit up London on the most depressing day of the year – Dazed

The third Monday of January is often referred to as Blue Monday, also known as the most depressing day of the year. So, what better way to remedy the post-holiday season gloom than a 10-minute group meditation courtesy of Arca.

The musician teamed up with digital arts platform CIRCA yesterday (January 17) for the group meditation, which was broadcast online and on Londons Piccadilly Circus. A series of AI-generated images made using 31 images of her paintings accompanied the meditation, allowing these material, real-world artworks to transcend the physical realm.

Transhumanism (is) the idea of seeing neural networks and trained GANs as collaborators of the psyche that integrate source material to produce something new. They produce new data that resembles the material the network was trained on, Arca told Dazed.

Both my paintings and imagery produced by generative adversarial networks (GAN) are heavy on a focus of variation in texture within each frame/image produced, she added. I think the images are very beautiful and provide a strange, uncanny sense of watching organic phenomena, like rot or decay only instead of disintegrating over time, the image recomposes itself, ever-morphing. The hypnosis I hope this induces is one that produces a feeling of solace and tenderness.

Kicking off the #CIRCA2022 programme, the project aimed to light up the iconic landmark on the most depressing day of the year and guide audiences to combat the anxiety and stress experienced by the pandemic. To be allowed by Circa to share the works in so many different physical spaces with many travellers in transit was an honour and responsibility I did not take lightly. So, I decided to try to share imagery that would be soothing and convey beauty through abstraction and texture, Arca explained.

The evening also marked the launch of the #CIRCAECONOMY Scholarship Programme, which will see two scholarships worth a total of 30,000 awarded to students to complete the MA Art & Ecology and MFA Curating degree programmes at Londons Goldsmiths.

Our new scholarship programme defines everything that CIRCA set out to achieve as a platform with purpose. Were grateful to all of our previous artists for supporting the #CIRCAECONOMY and everyone who purchased a print. This ongoing partnership with Goldsmiths will support the next generation at this difficult time and were especially grateful to Richard Noble and Andrew Renton for supporting our mission in making the arts more accessible to everyone, said Josef OConnor, CIRCAs artistic director.

As well as ushering in the 2022 Circa programme, Arca has also created five prints in support of the #CIRCAECONOMY that are available to purchase exclusively on the CIRCA.ART website. Proceeds from the sales will support the #CIRCAECONOMY a circular model that funds the platforms free public art programme.

Find out more about the #CIRCAECONOMY Scholarship Programme on the Circa website. Watch Arcas 10-minute meditation below.

Now, a bio-drug derived from turmeric to treat cancer – The Hindu

CSIR-Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) scientists in collaboration with CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) announced on Thursday that they have made progress towards developing a non-toxic bio-drug derived from turmeric through a gene silencing approach to treat cancer.

RNA interference (RNAi) is a gene silencing approach and a promising tool for targeted and focused therapy for chronic diseases like cancer. The lack of safe and effective delivery methods for RNAi molecules is one of the key challenges against using RNAi-based therapy in biological systems.

CCMBs Dr. Lekha Dinesh Kumar and her group in collaboration with NCLs polymer science and engineering division have developed nano-curcumin structures (derived from turmeric) to encapsulate the RNAi and other molecules that aid in targeting specific tissues.

The proposed bio-drug is bio-compatible with a higher uptake efficiency, and shows effective site-specific delivery with regression of tumors in two different mouse models of colon and breast cancer. The use of curcumin, a well-known nutraceutical with high anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties with RNAi, showed tumor retardation with six months survival in aggressive models of colon and breast cancer, says Dr. Kumar.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and the quest to find plausible therapeutic interventions to replace non-specific chemo drugs has been leading to the development of novel strategies to combat cancer. This work has been published in the journal Nanoscale.

In another study with the School of Nanosciences, Central University, Gujarat and Centre for Advanced Materials and Industrial Chemistry, RMIT Australia, they designed an eco-friendly and pH-responsive dietary fibre inulin-based nanodevice to target colon cancer.

This device suggests the possibility of substituting synthetic substances with natural compounds in bio-drug formulations for better bio-degradability, tissue accumulation, and lesser toxicity.

The results from this work have been published in the journal Nanomedicine, said an official release.

We have demonstrated that RNAi combined with appropriate targeting agents and encapsulations made of natural biomaterials have high translational capacity in mice models of cancer. This group of bio-drugs can revolutionize cancer therapeutics. But, it should be assessed in other cancer model systems to bring out the utility of these therapeutics in the clinical trials, she added.

Polymeric Nanoparticles and the Future of Gene Delivery Methods – AZoNano

Accidental discoveries have always led to intriguing research in science, and one such incident by a group of researchers has been published in the journal American Chemical Society.

Polymeric nanoparticles have so far been proven to be useful for biomedical applications such as for the fabrication of nanostructures; however, their natural function for biological activities has not received much attention. This article will uncover the natural disposition of polymeric nanoparticles for function in biological activities such as targeting submandibular salivary glands.

A major challenge within drug delivery and nanomedicine consist of the ability to target specific tissues.

While there have been increased efforts in this area by innovative researchers through enhancing the selectivity of current nanomedicine drug delivery systems as well as novel strategies to increase targeting, this challenge has not yet been overcome.

The field of nanomedicine thus far has attempted to target specific tissues by utilizing ligands to identify and recognize receptors located on tissue-specific cells. This has resulted in ligands such as antibodies, peptides, aptamers, and others being conjugated onto nanoparticle surfaces, allowing functionalization and increasing the specificity of drug delivery systems. Still, with complex designs, there is difficulty translating a ready-made product for clinical use.

The use of unmodified nanoparticles with intrinsic biological activities could be potentially used to decrease the level of processing required for a fully functional and functionalized drug delivery system. This has made biological macromolecules such as peptides, nucleic acids, and proteins desirable due to their natural ability to have specific molecular interactions with tissues.

Additionally, synthetic polymers can also be exploited for this purpose. They also possess the ability to have interactions for targeting biological functions due to moieties that selectively interact with targets to interfere with their operations.

However, with polymeric nanoparticles being widely used as a drug carrier in nanomedical research, the use of these specialized particles would be useful for the purpose of tissue targeting.

Researchers within this particular study found that polyethyleniminepoly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)2(PEIPLGA), usually used in gene and protein delivery, can mediate the targeting of submandibular salivary glands of mice after being intravenously injected for in vivo experimentation.

The research team found that unmodified polyethyleniminepoly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)2(PEIPLGA) nanoparticles with the hydrophilic PEI fully exposed on the surface around the aqueous phase could selectively accumulate in these mice submandibular salivary glands due to a high affinity with acetylcholine receptors in the specific tissue.

This is comparable to FDA-approved drugs such as muscarinic acetylcholine receptor subtype 3 (M3 receptor)-binding drugs. This illustrates the potential similarity in efficacy, a promising step for a novel drug system utilizing nanomedicine in the form of polymeric nanoparticles for gene targeting.

PEIPLGA nanoparticles can adsorb many negatively charged biological molecules such as RNA, protein, and DNA and have already been commonly utilized for the delivery of nucleic acid or protein drugs through nonselective static electric attraction.

However, the novel aspect of this particular research focused on PEI-PLGA nanoparticles being able to interact with the M3 acetylcholine receptor, which is expressed in a large volume in the submandibular salivary glands.

The development of synthetic polymers such as PEI-PLGA nanoparticles for biological applications can illustrate the interaction of polymers and proteins and can aid in the development of design strategies for nanomedical drug systems.

Additionally, this research would be useful for the development of M3 receptor-targeted therapies to enhance the treatment of diseases relating to the expression of the M3 receptor. An example of such a disorder includes Sjgren syndrome (SS), an autoimmune disease that affects exocrine glands, including salivary and lacrimal glands.

This receptor is also overexpressed in other organs such as the brain, with cholinergic transmission at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors being critical for higher brain function, including learning and memory and a loss of synapses resulting in symptoms relating to Alzheimers disease.

However, while this potential for brain treatment for motor neuron diseases can be technically possible, further research is required as few PEI-PLGA nanoparticles have been observed in the brain, which may be due to the blood-brain barrier.

The researchers have theorized that other muscarinic receptor subtypes such as M1 receptors are also overexpressed in the submandibular gland, so improving the selectivity of PEI-PLGA to target these subtypes can also be a research point.

While no obvious change was found in the level of salivary secretion within mice injected with PEI-PLGA nanoparticles within 24 hours, the targeting ability of these novel polymeric nanoparticles for biological activities is a promising start for possible interference in M3 signaling pathways and function.

This research can be exploited for many useful applications as summarized above and further illustrates the significance of nanomedicine in advancing diseases.

Immortality is showing life as a concept but also in the lab – AMEinfo

Humankinds thirst for infinite existence has taken a new turn with ideas springing from theoretical assumptions that future tech can turn practical to real-life experiments, with mice that is.

Transhumanism

A movement called transhumanism is now devoted to using science and technology to augment our bodies and our minds, and toallow humans to merge with machines, eradicating old age as a cause of death.

Mind uploading describes a hypothetical process of separating a persons consciousness (which involves their emotions, thought processes, and experiences), then converting it into a digital format, and finally transferring the digital consciousness into a different substrate, like a machine.

The process would conceivably incorporate different steps, like mind copying, mind transfer, mind preservation, and whole brain emulation (WBE).

Overview of how mind uploading can actually work

Step 1: Getting theinformationfrom the brain

The human brain regularly performs complex processes with the help of its86 billion neuronsthat function simultaneously in a large neural network. There aremore than 125 trillion synapsesjust in the cerebral cortex alone. That is a lot of information and storage capacity.

Mind uploadingadvocates claimthat noninvasive brain scans can provide sufficient resolution for copying the brain. The information stored in our brain would then be used tocreate aconnectome, a complete map of the neural connections in the brain, created using incredibly precise scanning of the neurons, and the synapses.

However, to date, we only have a complete connectome for a 1.5-millimeter roundworm calledCaenorhabditis elegans, which has just 302 neurons and about seven thousand synaptic connections. In 2014, theOpenWorm projectwhich mapped the brain replicated it as software and installed it in a Lego robot which was capable of the same sensory and motor actions as the biological model.

Building a human connectome is clearly a much more complicated process needing huge amounts of time and resources forthe identificationof about 86 billion neurons, determination of their precise location, and tracing and cataloging of their projections on one another. This is inconceivable using existing technologies.

Another proposed method of getting information from the brain is through a brain-computer interface (BCI). There are already existing implanted devicesthat can translate some types of neuronal information into commands, and arecapable of controllingexternal software or hardware, such as a robotic arm. However, modern BCIs are only very slightly related to the theoretical BCIs which would be needed to allow us to transfer our brain states into a digital medium.

Some suggest that downloading consciousness would require technology capable of scanning human brains at a quantum particle level.

Elon Musks Neuralink is one company working on aspects of mind-uploading. They are designing a neural implant that would work like a Fitbit in your skull. But it is not close to the technology needed to upload an entire brain.

Meeting the challenges of step 1: Preserving the brain

Some wealthy individuals whowish to live foreverare opting to preserve their brains and sometimes bodies through cryopreservation. In theory, in the future when human connectome technology is fully developed, their consciousness could then be retrieved and uploaded. An American cryonics company Alcor Life Extension Foundationalready stores around180 cryopreserved human bodies.

However, some experts also claim that such cryonic techniquesmaydamagethe brain beyond repair.

Recently, an MIT graduate Robert McIntyre, rekindled the brain preservation hype when heannounced his Y-Combinatorbacked startup Nectome is building some next-generation tools to preserve brains in the microscopic detail needed to map the connectome.

Step 2: Reconstruction of the artificial brain

Once all the neural activity is mapped out and the connectome is ready, the next step would be to digitize it. According toa rough estimatepublished inScientific American, the memory storage capacity of the human brain could be around 2.5 Petabytes (2,500 TB).

Apart from the storage, we will require a computer architecture on which the brain can be reconstructed in the form of computable code. And there is the issue of power for that architecture.Today, a computer with the same memory and processing power as the human brain would require around 1 gigawatt of power, or basically a whole nuclear power station to run one computer that does what our computer does with 20 watts, according to Tom Bartol, a neuroscientist at the Salk Institute.

Step 3: Emulation in an external substrate

Once all the requirements are fulfilled and the artificial brain is ready, the mind can now be uploaded into a simulation, such as a virtual world, like the metaverse. Another transhumanist idea suggests that the mind can also be uploaded on ahumanoid robot.Uploading into a physical robot would require robots that are a lot more functional than any that currently exist.

However, if the consciousness is uploaded as a substrate-independent mind (SIM), and if the SIM is deemed to be conscious, then it will also need toexist in a place and be able to interact with things. This will require virtual reality that is identical to how humans experience actual reality. All of this will require yet more storage capacity, signal bandwidth, and power.

Senescent cells

Nowresearchers in Japan saythey may have taken a step toward boosting human longevity with successful trials of a vaccine against the cells that contribute to the ageing process.

In laboratory trials, a drug targeting a protein contained in senescent cells those which have naturally stopped reproducing themselves slowed the progression of frailty in older mice.

The vaccine also successfully targeted the senescent cells in fatty tissue and blood vessels.

We can expect that (the vaccine) will be applied to the treatment of arterial stiffening, diabetes and other aging-related diseases, Juntendo professor Toru Minamino told Japans Jiji news agency.

Cells become senescent when they stop duplicating themselves, often in response to naturally-occurring damage to their DNA.

In laboratory tests, preventing the build-up of senescent cells extended the lifespan of mice by 15%, Euronews reported. But researchers still dont know how much a living creatures lifespan can be extended.

Some believe there is a limit for the human lifespan of around 130 years as a current estimate.

Low T Not Necessarily Troublesome for the Heart – Physician’s Weekly

Testosterone levels unlikely to cause age-related increase in CV disease

The latest data on testosterone levels and cardiovascular (CV) risk offer both good news and just-okay news: Men with lower total testosterone concentrations were not at increased risk for myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, heart failure (HF), or major adverse CV events (MACE), although some other testosterone-based markers were linked with higher risks for some CV events.

In a cohort study of participants in the U.K. Biobank, lower total testosterone concentration (quintile 1 versus quintile 5) was not associated with incident MI (fully adjusted hazard ratio 0.89, (95% CI 0.80 to 1.00), according to Bu B. Yeap, PhD, of the University of Western Australia in Crawley, and co-authors. In quintile 1, the median testosterone concentration was 7.75 nmol/L and 223 ng/dL versus 16/73 nmol/L and 482 ng/dL for quintile 5.

The study authors also reported the following in the Annals of Internal Medicine with regard to a lack of association between lower total testostrone concentrations and:

However, Yeap and co-authors reported that [c]alculated free testosterone may be associated with risk for MACE, and that men with lower SHBG [sex hormone-binding globulin] concentrations have higher risk for MI but lower risk for IS and HF. SHBG is the major binding protein for circulating testosterone, yet few studies have assessed whether SHBG concentrations might be associated with incident CVD events, independent of testosterone, they explained.

As for lower total testosterone, the authors suggested that it may be a marker for various sociodemographic, lifestyle, and medical factors that are associated with risk for CVD events, rather than an independent risk factor for these outcomes.

But the study had several limitations, most notably its observational design; thus, causality cannot be determined. Also, serum total testosterone, SHBG, and other covariates were measured only once at baseline, according to the authors, and the U.K. Biobank population has a predominantly Anglo-Celtic ethnic background, so the results may not apply to other racial/ethnic groups. Some previous studies have reported differences among ethnic groups for age-related drops in testosterone levels.

Still, the results in 210,700 men followed for 9 yearsof whom 4.2% had an incident CV eventwere in line with previous data, such as a 2014 study of men in the Cardiovascular Health Study, a 2016 study in men ages 17 to 97 (also by Yeap and colleagues), 2019 research specifically on SHBG levels and incident CV events, and the 2020 MrOS Prospective Study.

The current findings may help some clinicians and their patients sort out the mixed messaging regarding testosterone therapy. In 2015, the FDA supported testosterone therapy, but only for men with documented low endogenous testosterone levels caused by primary or secondary hypogonadism, explained Eliseo Guallar, MD, DrPH, of Johns Hopkins University, and Di Zhao, PhD, of Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, both in Baltimore in an editorial accompanying the study.

They noted that the agency warned about possible therapy-related CV adverse events and that, a few years later, an Endocrine Society clinical practice guideline recommended against starting testosterone therapy for men with chronic conditions, including uncontrolled HF, MI, or stroke within the past six months.

The results from Yeaps group provide some warning against the use of testosterone therapy for the prevention of CVD in men, Guallar and Zhao wrote, adding that the CV safety profile of the therapy remains uncertain, and careful evaluation of the individual cardiovascular risk profile is needed before initiation of testosterone therapy for any patient.

From the U.K. Biobank, Yeap and co-authors analyzed data from community-dwelling men, age 40 to 69 years (about 95% White; <4% South Asian). The age group was on the younger side, so our ndings cannot be extrapolated to older men, nor can we address whether higher testosterone concentrations might be protective in men aged 70 years or older, they pointed out.

Assay tests were done for testosterone and SHBG, and free testosterone was calculated. Cox proportional hazard regression was done for the outcomes of incident MI, strokes, HF, and MACE. All were adjusted for sociodemographic, lifestyle, and medical factors.

They reported that men with lower calculated free testosterone values had a lower incidence of MACE (HR 0.90, 95% CI 0.84 to 0.97). Also, lower SHBG concentrations were linked with:

Finally, Yeaps group calculated the cumulative five-year incidences of all the CV events in the study for U.K. Biobank male participants with total testosterone, SHBG, cFT (free testosterone calculated using the Vermeulen formula), or FTZ (free testosterone calculated using empirical equation) values at the medians of quintile 1 and quintile 5, and reported that the change in absolute risk attributable to this difference in total testosterone concentrations was small, being 0.14% or less across outcomes. Findings were similar with cFT and FTZ. A slightly larger difference of 0.19% was seen for risk for MI related to the difference in SHBG concentrations.

Whether the results will mean anything to the $15 million-plus global testosterone supplementation market remains to be seen, although theres less doubt about the impact of direct-to-consumer (DTC) marketing of such products.

A 2017 JAMA study of DTC advertising, testosterone testing, and initiation in the U.S. (2009 to 2013) found that the former was associated with substantial overall increases in testosterone testing and initiation, and that DTC adverts was tied to more initiation of testosterone without recent serum testing, contrary to treatment guidelines, according to J. Bradley Layton, PhD, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and co-authors. A separate 2017 European Urology Focus study also found similar results, and added that [t]here is a high prevalence of misinformation [on testosterone supplementation] on Internet advertising.

In a 2020 Andrology review, Arcangelo Barbonetti, MD, PhD, of the University of LAquila, in LAquila, Italy, and co-authors advised that in pateints with late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) [c]linicians must consider the unique characteristics of each patient and make the necessary adjustments in the management of LOH in order to provide the safest and most beneficial results of testosterone therapy, and emphasized that the therapy should not be started in case of a severe chronic heart failure myocardial infarction or stroke within the last 6 months, or thrombophilia. In case of decision to treat, hypogonadal men with chronic heart failure should be followed carefully with clinical assessment and T [testosterone] and haematocrit measurements on a regular basis.

Men with lower total testosterone concentrations were not at increased risk for myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, heart failure (HF), or major adverse CV events (MACE).

Calculated free testosterone may be tied to a risk for MACE, while men with lower sex hormone-binding globulin concentrations had higher risk for MI but lower risk for ischemic stroke and HF.

A combination of aspartic acid and L-aspartate, this can release hormones in your brain that work for better testosterone production. It also increases levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone which stimulate the testes to produce more testosterone (1).

Rich in vitamins and minerals, this ancient herb can increase libido and get your performance back on track by naturally increasing testosterone with powerful compounds (2).

By combing to receptors, this will assist with raising T levels since it is a bioidentical hormone for testosterone. Through increased testosterone, this will work to boost your sex drive as well (3).

This will work for building muscle and encourage fat metabolism as well as widen your blood vessels for better blood and nutrient flow. While it may not help increase T levels directly, it can help with certain symptoms that hinder your health and performance.

Since these convert food to energy, through metabolizing fat, you can provide for more consistent testosterone production with B vitamins. With these changes, it also works to build muscle mass and strength.

By increasing nitric oxide levels, this can increase blood flow and allow the testicles to better produce more testosterone (4).

Containing L-Dopa, which increases the pleasure hormone dopamine, it will allow for better mood thus stimulating testosterone production (5).

Can reduce estrogen and increase testosterone while also promoting muscle mass and is a key ingredient for optimizing testosterone levels (6).

May lower estrogen and cortisol which can negatively impact testosterone production. It is also a good libido enhancer.

It can increase the bioavailability of testosterone and allow for more free testosterone. When taken along with vitamin D, it can increase absorption so you get the most out of this ingredient (7).

Can reduce cortisol and works as a stress reliever, thus allowing for better testosterone production (8).

Can help with managing testosterone levels by adjusting your bodies balance of testosterone and estrogen working to increase testosterone and decrease estrogen (9).

Allows your body to absorb these nutrients better so the ingredients in your supplement hit you more effectively.

As a supplement, testosterone boosters are safe to use. What to look for is the reputation of the company and what is included in the supplement. Hidden ingredients or formulas is just something to avoid with any supplement but especially one that works to aid in your health and vitality. Veganism for Beginners – Massage Magazine

The vegan diet, which is a diet free of animal products, has become more popular in recent years, offers potential benefits both for health and the environment, as well as animal welfare.

The vegan diet does not include any animal products. That means no meat, dairy or eggs. Many vegans do not consume honey either due to the practices used that are thought to harm bee health. It can sometimes be tricky to know whether certain foods are vegan. Bagels are one example, and this post helps you better understand whether bagels are vegan.

Consuming a plant-based diet has potential benefits for health, as plant-based foods are rich in vitamins and minerals, heart-healthy fat, and fiber. A body of research supports a diet that includes sufficient plant-source foods for health.

A vegan diet may also benefit the environment, as animal-source foods generally require more resources to produce. Much of agricultural land is used for livestock rearing, and consuming less meat may have a positive environmental impact.

The vegan diet also takes into account animal welfare. Mistreatment of animals on factory farms is one reason vegans cite for deciding not to consume animal products, among others.

There are several nutrients of particular concern when going vegan, and its important to know how to get enough. A vegan diet can potentially be nutrient-poor if you do not consume foods in all of the food groups and rely on a lot of processed snack-type foods.

Some nutrients are not as readily absorbed when coming from plant-based vs. animal-based foods, and its important to be aware of the recommendations for intake.

Of note, it is generally possible to get enough calories as a vegan if you include a mix of high- and low-calorie foods. Plenty of vegan foods contain a good deal of calories, particularly those that are high in fat. Examples are nuts, dried fruit and sesame seeds. This post provides a list of high-calorie vegan foods.

While many vegan foods contain iron, the iron in plant-source foods is not as easily absorbed as that in animal-sourced foods. Thus, the recommendations for iron intake for vegans are almost twice as high as those for people who eat meat. Its important to include foods such as beans, tofu, grains and vegetables like spinach to be sure you are getting the right amount.

As dairy is one of the main sources of calcium in the American diet, vegans need to find alternatives. Some ideas are fortified plant-based milk such as soy or almond milk, as well as leafy greens like collard greens. There are lots of other types of plant-based milk as well, such as oat and macadamia. Its important to read labels carefully, as not all are fortified with calcium. The calorie content also varies quite a bit. Sesame seeds and dried fruit are also sources of calcium.

Vitamin B12 is found in animal products. Vegans can get B12 by consuming nutritional yeast, fortified foods like breakfast cereals and plant-based milk. You can also consider taking a supplement.

There are only a few vegan sources of protein that are considered complete proteins, which means that they contain all of the essential amino acids. Soy is one example, and vegans have lots of options when it comes to soy products, including tofu, tempeh and edamame. Vegans need to be sure to get protein from different sources to be sure they are consuming all of the essential amino acids. Beans and rice is an example of a dish that contains all.

Fish and fish oil are commonly consumed as a source of omega-3 fat and are not included in the vegan diet. Vegans can make sure they get enough by consuming walnuts, flaxseed oil, tofu and chia seeds.

As its important to be sure your diet will be acceptable for you in terms of taste and culture, you can start by taking a look at what you usually eat and consider where you might be able to make substitutions to start consuming more plant-based foods.

For example, if you eat tacos, you can consider substituting meat with a plant-based alternative. I have had some really tasty tacos that were entirely plant-based and involved seitan rather than chicken or beef. To further make your tacos plant-based, you could explore different options for vegan cheese and see how you like the taste.

Youll want to make a plan for your meals based on your preferences and make a shopping list. This will help you to be intentional about your choices in the supermarket.

This list will give you some ideas of foods to purchase in each of the food groups. As vegans do not consume dairy, some vegan alternatives will be listed in this group.

Fruit

Raspberries

Cantaloupe

Pears

Vegetables

Spinach

Green peas

Broccoli

Bell pepper

Grains

Quinoa

Brown rice

Whole-grain bread

Protein

Beans

Tofu

Seitan

Tempeh

Dairy

Soy milk

Almond milk

Soy yogurt

If you are going vegan, its important to plan your diet carefully to be sure youre getting all the nutrients you need. A vegan diet can be nutritionally complete, but it can also be lacking in nutrients if you choose a diet mainly made up of nutrient-poor processed foods such as candy or chips. When shopping, its good to make a list and make sure you purchase foods from all the food groups.

Vegums Conscience-Tests the American Vegan and Plant-Based Eater With U.S. Launch – Yahoo Finance

Vegums, the rapidly growing UK vegan vitamin and supplement brand will make its U.S. debut in January with three of its Ve-ssentials gummy products, Vegan optimized Multivitamins, Fish-Free Omega-3 and Vegan Iron.

HOBOKEN, N.J., January 04, 2022--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vegums, the multivitamin and supplement gummy for vegans and those adopting a plant-based lifestyle, announced today the launch of Vegums USA. Founded by John Rushton and Abdul Sharief, two UK pharmacists in 2018, Vegums was created to address the vitamin and mineral deficiencies associated with rapidly growing vegan and plant-based lifestyles as well as staying passionately committed to sustainability and animal welfare.

"As pharmacists, Abdul and I just couldnt find vitamins for our families that were committed to the true vegan cause, so we created one!" said John Rushton, Co-Founder of Vegums. "We saw the meteoric rise of veganism as well as plant-based diets coupled with the huge concern about the planet and animal welfare and decided there was a great opportunity. We set about using our health, wellness, and pharmacy skills to design vitamins and supplements that not only have completely vegan ingredients none of this 'suitable for' rubbish!" He continued, "The vegan diet can mean that people become deficient in certain nutrients which in turn can lead to health issues, so we adjusted levels to compensate for this. We also care greatly about the planet we live on and animal welfare, so we built the brand to give back for the next generations future. We feel that our whole ethos is best summarized by Vegums tagline 'Conscience tested'."

Certified by the Vegan Society, Vegums vitamin gummies comprise genuine, easy-to-grasp, vegan ingredients. Citrus peel is used as a gelling agent as opposed to animal-based gelatin. Natural colors and flavors are always employed and where a touch of sweetness is required, it is with unrefined cane sugar to avoid the use of bonemeal common in refining. "We also went the tasty gummy route why not make vitamins pleasant to take and digest?" said Rushton. "And, for the adults as well as the kids, weve created bear families."

Story continues

"There are so many benefits to following a vegan diet, but it can be easy to fall short of some important vitamins and minerals," said Dr. Nicole Avena, Ph.D., a research neuroscientist, author, and expert in the fields of nutrition, diet, and addiction. "Vegans need to pay extra special attention to a few vitamins and minerals like vitamin B12, iron, or Vitamin D (among others) because the best sources of these nutrients come from animal foods. A supplement optimized for vegans could target these nutrients that vegans are likely missing out on, and help someone following a vegan diet feel secure knowing that they aren't lacking important vitamins and minerals they need to stay healthy."

Winner of the 2020 World Plant-Based Awards, Vegums will initially be available in the U.S. via three "Ve-ssentials":

Vegan Multivitamin: Specifically optimized for the vegan diet. It contains vitamins B12, B6, and D3 plus folic acid, selenium, and iodine on the premise of everything you need and nothing you dont. The gummies come in a tasty strawberry flavor and get their vibrant red color from natural black carrot extract.

Fish-Free Omega-3: Fully vegan Omega-3 from sustainably sourced marine algae, provides a huge 80mg DHA per daily dose. Omega-3 is considered to help build and maintain healthy eyes, skin, heart, and brain. It is especially important during childhood development. Vegums have the natural sweetness of oranges and are absent of the fishy taste.

Iron: A daily dose of two naturally flavored blackberry gummy bears results in an amazing 14mg of easier-to-absorb ferrous iron. A good iron level is essential to prevent anemia, which manifests as tiredness and a lack of energy.

"Were passionate about the planet and have built sustainability into the framework of our brand," said Abdul Sharief, Co-Founder of Vegums. "All Vegums ingredients have been traced back to their source to ensure that no animal products were used at any stage. Additionally, unlike many vegan competitors, weve abandoned plastic packaging. All Vegums products come in biodegradable cellulose and recycled cardboard, designed to be stored in our custom reusable tin. We will not contribute to landfill waste. Importantly, in the UK, Vegums has achieved carbon-negative status; we aim to do the same in the U.S. We know its a big place, but we are ready for it and by all accounts, the vegan population is ready for our products."

Vegums are available for purchase directly from http://www.vegums.us, and via Amazon, in addition to a growing number of selected local vitamin and health and wellness stores across the country. A one-month adult or two-month childrens supply of the Vegan Multivitamins and the Iron retail for $19.95 with a subscription; with Fish-Free Omega-3 retailing for $21.95, again with a subscription. The brand will be offering large introductory discounts around the launch.

With every purchase, Vegums donates a percentage of its profits to Vitamin Angels, a charity that assists pregnant women, infants, and children who live beyond the margins. Additionally, for every review on TrustPilot, the brand has partnered with MoreTrees to plant trees in local communities, helping improve opportunities for work and to offset the CO2 the business emits. To date, the brand has planted trees for local and tribal communities in Madagascar, for local farmers in Haiti, and with the Kijabe Forest Trust in Kenya.
