Another buzzy name is taking over the health and wellness industry, infiltrating sparkling drinks, superfood supplements, and even skincare: adaptogens. Despite their recent popularity, use of the Ayurvedic herbs and fungi is nothing new; people have relied on the ancient medicine for thousands of years to treat a range of concerns, such as managing stress levels and combating inflammation. While ingesting adaptogens can bring numerous benefits to the body, applying them topically to the skin has been proven to do wonders, too, minimizing dryness, fine lines and wrinkles, eczema, and irritation like no other.

According to shoppers, the Youth to the People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream is one of the best recent skincare remedies to come from adaptogenic beauty. Reviewers have called it a "magical elixir" for achieving beautiful skin, with some noticing significant results after just a week of use. Those with ultra-sensitive and dry skin feel as though they've found their "holy grail moisturizer," with one reviewer sharing that it keeps their skin feeling supple, "even in the Colorado dry climate."

The fragrance-free, vegan formula has a bountiful list of ingredients, including a proprietary adaptogenic blend of ashwagandha, rhodiola, and reishi. The trio brings plenty of antioxidants and amino acids to the complexion, working to counteract signs of aging and fatigue, while helping your skin react better to stress and environmental aggressors. Alongside the adaptogens, squalane, jojoba oil, and shea butter surge the skin with a heavy dose of hydration, and according to reviewers, keep the skin feeling moisturized "all day long" without any greasy residue. Even better, you'll find no dimethicone, parabens, or phthalates listed on the recyclable, 2-ounce glass jar.

"I've developed very sensitive skin over the last few years and I've tried everything to get it feeling fully moisturized with no success," shared one shopper. "Most hypoallergenic moisturizers aren't moisturizing enough for me. This is wonderful. I just wish it came in a bigger size. It's hard for me to avoid going through it too fast."

"My skin has improved immensely since I started Youth to the People," said another. "I barely wear foundation anymore and there is a visible difference; I regularly get compliments about my skin being clearer and brighter. It changed my skin in under two weeks of consistent use. I LOVE IT!!!"

Youth to the People recommends applying the cream to clean skin morning and night for the best results. Snag the anti-aging hero taking over regimens everywhere for $58 on the brands website.

In the novel We, written almost a century ago, Yevgeny Zamyatin introduced the concept of Great Operation: which as psycho-surgery had the effect of producing as he described tractors in human form.

Small article here examines the utility and potentiality of psycho-surgery and transhumanism from the perspective of the early 21st C given technological advance; and not so much Great Operation but Great Reset as currently in progress of being introduced at a Global level.

This apropos the quote from Heart of Darkness above and psycho-surgery being a polymorphous concept as ripe for technological development, alas and as Wilde put it paraphrased : technocratic evil bastards can resist anything but temptation.

At least one office in DARPA is devoted to Biological Technologies.

Social Credit as some parallel of tractorship in human form effected on a mass level is bleeding edge in China, such the technocratic prototype as unipolar, such the Dystopia?

Zamyatin conceived of the Great Operation as entailing destruction or impairment of function of parts of the human brain thru deployment of X-rays, and as a labor intensive as surgical operation; being as one brain lobotomized/strait jacketed phenomenological as much as one tractor in human form rendered at a time, such the psycho politics dystopian s algorithmic..

In fairness to Zamyatin when he wrote We X -Rays represented cutting edge technology, having only been discovered in 1895. Mass production as capital intense was still in its corporatist infancy back when Zamyatin wrote Model Ts were just beginning to roll off assembly lines.

It is said that Orwell drew heavily upon We concerning 1984.

The Great Reset contains the vision that in the future you shall own nothing and be happy. The potential implications of this statement in relation to technological development and transhumanism will be explored here; alongside the alternate conception of said Great Reset being as a new form of Feudalism not based on ownership of land and fief, but on ownership of transhumans and the fief of tractors in human form as said transhumanism exploited by way of debasement, such the simulacrum, such the tragedy, such the absurdity as Marx claimed.

Can transhumans be owned down on the technocratic farm?

Patent WO2020060606 Cryptocurrency System Using Body Activity Data; it shine a light?

That is to say; psychotronic technology is , alongside Artificial Intelligence (AI )and gene therapy the technology of the future as it meets the needs of technocratic pathology by way of facilitating widespread as Globalized owning nothing as well as happiness being as enforced under political form totalitarian as technocratic, such the anorexic mirror. The wet dreams of technocratic man gods as obscenely wealthy on the transhumanist farm await explication such the ius est?

As these small quarters write (early 21st C), we impoverished Humans still have the capacity to independently think; albeit this becoming rarer as is biodiversity under the military industrial corporatist complex as a result of technocratic direction and the growing power of technology to effect by way of winnowing not only behavioral patterns, but the thought patterns underlying same such the dumbing down, such the propaganda, such the drone/litany of woe as dystopian?

For neoliberalism synonymises technocracy such the freedom of do what thou wilt as the degenerate satanical bastard Aleister Crowley propagated?

It is reasonable to suppose that were Joseph Goebbels to be alive today he would be gleeful over the power of broadcast media to effect propaganda on a mass scale and its singularity of repetition of line to some corporatist technocratic parallel of Ein volk, ein reich, ein fuhrer attained as facilitated Globally and that would be before he as a degenerate introduced to the monitoring, controlling and manipulative aspects of technological progress as amoral; such the goose steps algorithmic as of Artificial Intelligence (AI); let alone the psychotronic potentialities of a new operating system as under genetic modification, such the hack, such the reboot as about to be jacked as further jagged up down on the transhuman farm?

(Electrosmog of War on the Globalized Transhumanist Farm was considered for title this small article.)

Permit these small quarters to temporarily control and issue some currency as alternative as metapolitical questions raised here?

In accordance with Technocratic vision as weltsanchauung the term surplus population has been passed into the mundane via cultural hegemony as much as R2P as build back better; such the new normal, such the casus belli?

Such the head offed as menticidal as ecocidal, indeed?

What if , and here small quarters just speculating alternative as mindful of irony; a new operating system for Humanity could be possessed of eugenical characteristics? More prone to parallel of blue screen such the reboot? More susceptible as amenable to update?

A swab up every nose or ass, an injection in every arm as update effected under R2P?

What if Bill Gates , such the window, other than a money making philanthropist under trillionaire technocratic muppetry is pursuing a eugenical agenda based on technocratic apperception of surplus population?

What if the very concept of R2P has been even further corrupted/debased to mean the Protected not Humanity or Democracy or Human Rights but rather Resource Transfer as enables obscene wealth accumulation translated into obscene power, sense of Lord Actons proposition vis a vis power?

R2P - further corrupted/degenerated as in control and issue of opium in Afghanistan, oil in Iraq, oil in Libya, Oil inSyria such the production as in a theater of war morphing before our very eyes such the contemptoraneity (sic)?

Is there a responsibility to protect the health of a surplus population as apperceived; or does a live and let die ethos prevail under Technocracy?

Does evil exist as incarnate or is it just dysfunctionality as pathological aberration under an empirical paradigm of objectivity?

Are covidiots now as that charming man as ex passenger on the Lolita Express Alan Dershowitz professed fit to be held down and forcibly injected such the Nakba Transhumanist as a gene drive expressed?

Is such questioning under TINA as Technocratic hegemony goes by way of the Fourth Reich/ Industrial Revolution now Verboten?

The psychotropic as psychotronic possibilities arising from conjunction of AI, genetic modification, nanotechnology, beam formed electrosmog as a plasma are truly horrific to contemplate: they place Zamyatins concept of great operation and tractors in human form alongside Jose Delgado and his chipping of individual bulls via neurosurgery; this as much as a spear stands in relation to a hypersonic thermonuclear missile, both in context of economy of scale and metadeath, sense of genetic mutation effected?

Perhaps an algorithmic exposition of the transhuman farm as a click built panopticon is apposite/called for?

Congratulations, you are in just the right place at the right time!

The psychotronic potentiality of non ionizing radiation has already been demonstrated. It should be noted that this technology by way of beam forming can effect not only a sense of burning, but also the delivery of intelligible voice commands such the voice of god.

The ubiquitous presence of non ionizing radiation is something which can be attained thru telecommunications infrastructure. 5G roll-out exemplifies an environmental modulation apropos.

An enhancement of psychotronic potentiality as of aforementioned can be attained by way of:

a) Modulation the genetic base/ DNA code as an operating system.

b) The presence of electromagnetic nanotechnology

Artificial Intelligence is capable of co-ordinating the delivery of psychotronic control on a mass as global level; in conjunction as interfaced with suitable non ionizing radiation presence, genetic modification and electromagnetic nanotechnology , any biomass can be impacted pro actively; sense of surveillance, control and manipulation.

And all because the 0.001% love money, love power such the alpha point effected?

We shall own nothing and be happy!

Nothing includes our thoughts no longer our own such the psychotronics; includes our genes no longer same such the therapy, our own happiness such the soma as electromagnetic nanotechnologically to be enforced such the man gods supplicated unto to be?

Even bastard degenerate Nazis had a choice as to raise an arm or click heels?

Even in 1984 a ration could be seen as it was as?

Say hello to technocratic psychotronics!

Is it like thisIn deaths other kingdomWaking aloneAt the hour when we areTrembling with tendernessLips that would kissForm prayers to broken stone.

As T.S. Eliot wrote concerning hollow men as transhuman as technocratic?

Final words to Orwell, such the paraphrase.

Scientists Are Using Brain Implants To Read Patients’ Minds, Then Yours – The Federalist

Last year, Elon Musk predicted his Neuralink brain implant could eventually allow people to bypass human language. With a handful of AI-powered chips jabbed into their brains, Neuralink users could converse with their thoughts alone. Poetry and liturgy would become a sentimental pastime, like roasting marshmallows over a campfire.

In principle, you would be able to communicate very quickly, and with far more precision, ideas, Musk mumbled to Joe Rogan. And language would Im not sure what would happen to language [But] really, in the first few versions all were going to be trying to do is solve brain injuries.

Many scoffed at the time, just as they did when Musk hyped the idea of a self-driving Tesla. Today, a quick glance around the 405 freeway in Los Angeles provides evidence that a billionaires dreams can quickly become the publics reality even if a few models have to burst into flames to get there.

On July 14, the transhumanist goal of neuro-telepathy came a step closer to realization, thanks to a major breakthrough by a team at the University of California, San Francisco.Neuroscientists surgically implanted a subdural electrode array on the surface of a stroke victims brain. For 81 weeks, they fed his sensorimotor cortex signals into an artificial intelligence system. Using the algorithms predictive power as a sort of auto-complete feature, the team was able to translate the subjects attempts at speech into text with extraordinary accuracy.

Although presently limited to a 50-word vocabulary, the silent patient is able to string together full sentences, which are displayed onscreen in real time. A few evocative examples include: Here is my computer, My family is very comfortable, They have faith, and Faith is good.

This experiment was supported by Project Steno, a long-term program funded and supported by Facebook. One of the projects broader goals was to create a non-invasive helmet that could translate the average users thoughts into digital information. Although Facebook Reality Labs decided to put this mass-market brain-cap on hold for now, the engineers are celebrating the UCSF neuroprosthetic implant as a new milestone in brain-computer interface.

The experiments leader, neuroscientist Edward Chang, extended his gratitude to the social media company. Weve learned so much about how speech is processed in the brain [over the past decade], but its only in the last five years that advances in machine learning have allowed us to get to this key milestone, he said. Facebooks machine learning advice and funding really accelerated our progress.

Changs results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The scientists and engineers over at Neuralink are either seething with envy or dying to announce their next breakthrough in the race to create a cyborg elite.

Whether or not Changs invasive procedure can be reproduced consistently, the momentum behind it is irrefutable. According to the prevailing mythos in Silicon Valley and various academic programs, technology can ultimately heal what ails us. Brain implants will cure stroke damage, paralysis, traumatic injuries, and even soothe emotional maladies such as depression. Far beyond medical treatment, though, advocates for full augmentation intend to overcome the human condition itself.

Of all the transhumanists in high places, Elon Musk is perhaps the most famous. Last April, he stunned the unsuspecting world with avideo of a macaque monkey playing MindPong using two Neuralink chips drilled into his brain. While Neuralinks next planned step will be treating degenerative brain disease in humans, Musk has said many times his ultimate goal is cognitive enhancement and human-AI symbiosis.

The tycoons urgency stems from a belief that artificial intelligence will soon outstrip flawed human cognition, as weve already seen with Go champions, cancer and heart disease diagnosis, Amazon warehouse management, and aerial dogfight simulations.

Over time I think we will probably see a closer merger of biological intelligence and digital intelligence, Musk told a crowd in Dubai. Its mostly about the bandwidth, the speed of the connection between your brain and the digital version of yourself. Hed better get moving, because theres plenty of competition.

Blackrock Neurotech has arguably made the most progress on neuroprosthesis, at least in terms of medical applications. The company provided a key component for the UCSF breakthrough. Thirty people worldwide have had an implanted brain-computer interface, their website boasts. Twenty-eight of those use Blackrocks technology.

With the longest chronic implant being over six years, we know we can make BCI work for millions today! the site homepage says. And tomorrow we can aim to make hundreds of millions of people walk, talk, see, hear, and feel again.

Beyond medicine, Kernel is among the most audacious players using a brain-computer interface solely for cognitive enhancement. Currently, the company has developed two non-invasive skullcaps that monitor neurological activity to optimize human performance. Kernel Flow uses near-infrared spectroscopy to measure blood flow. Kernel Flux uses magnetometers to track the brains electromagnetic fluctuations.

These helmets can have numerous biofeedback applications, including cognitive and athletic performance, heightened focus during meditation, and brain-to-brain synchrony. Two weeks ago, the company announced its partnership with Statespace to produce superhuman video gamers.

By 2030, Kernels founder Bryan Johnson aims to put a brain helmet in every American household. Like Musk, hes convinced mere humanity will need a wide range of enhancement tools to remain relevant in the age of artificial intelligence because anything you can do, AI can do better.

As a religious philosophy, transhumanism sees technological augmentation as a moral duty. It begins with the quest to overcome disease, old age, and death, and it ends with something like the Christian vision of human perfection and immortality.

Its an underappreciated fact that many transhumanists are not atheists. Some see technology as a way to realize Gods unfolding plan even if that means irreversibly altering the human form, or replacing humans with simulacra altogether.

Resting on the pillars of gene-editing, bionic modification, neuro-enhancement, robotics, and artificial intelligence, transhumanism is yet another dream for a better world. Naturally, these far-reaching ambitions invite revulsion and ridicule from normal people.

Perhaps more importantly, human perfection has always proven to be an impossible dream (the Kardashians are a fine example). That limitation may not matter, though, as long as powerful people are driven to pursue grand visions and intend to drag the rest of us along.

Changs UCSF brain implant experiment shows that some aspects of the transhumanist vision are already within reach. Technology confers miraculous powers. Even if the subjects immune system eventually rejects the electrodes in his head (as is quite common), for now hes able to do something that for nearly two decades was impossible: directly express his thoughts in words.

One of the more touching phrases hes able to convey is, I need you. Although the study makes no mention of it, I imagine he immediately said, Thank you. Progress wont stop with this heart-warming scenario, though. It never does.

The first computers were developed out of military necessity. Today, more than six billion people in the world casually use smartphones to enhance memory and cognition as if they always existed.Sex-change operations were pioneered to cater to troubled souls who saw no other option. Now hormone therapy is in vogue and even children are being convinced to try it.

Its only a matter of time before we see attempts to use elective brain implants to create elite mathematicians and super-soldiers. Over and over again, were told this new world is inevitable. That may be the case, but not because God or nature deemed it so. Transhumanism is inevitable for the same reason that war is always imminent: because someone with enough power wants it to happen.

Lizzo’s First 3-Minute TikTok Video Is Just Her Eating a Vegan Chicken Sandwich. And We’re Here for It. – VegNews

Social media platform TikTok is now allowing users to make three-minute videos and Lizzo is using the extra time to savor a vegan chicken sandwich. The musical artists first three-minute TikTok video was dedicated to a vegan hot honey sandwich and fries from Lettuce Feast, a Los Angeles area vegan food truck. Lizzo spent the entirety of the three minutes joyfully eating and praising her vegan meal. When it came to the crinkle cut fries, Lizzo compared them all to that one Dorito thats perfectly seasoned in the bag. Between bites, Lizzo shared that the sandwichwhich replaces chicken with fried mushroomswas perfectly sauced and seasoned. They dont got no respect for nobody making food like this, she jokingly says.

Lizzos first three-minute TikTok video was dedicated to vegan food and given her history of engaging vegan food posts, it will likely not be her last. In the last few weeks, the 33-year-old musical artist has used TikToks one-minute format to create humorous vegan food videos that follow the popular Super Mario Bros. trend on TikTokwhere users post activities overlaid with the soundtrack of the game. In one, Lizzo tackles food from The Fat Vegan, another Los Angeles vegan business, with power-up sounds as she devours various food items such as orange cauliflower (a vegan take on orange chicken), buffalo seitan wings, hot dogs, and Beyond Meat-stuffed burgers. In another one, Lizzo takes on tacos and goes through seven different kindssoundtracked by different levels from Super Mariobefore tapping out.

Lizzo first publicly announced that she was vegan in June 2020 to her then 8.8 million TikTok fansa following that has since grown to 16.6 million on the platform. In a 2017 interview, Lizzo explained that she experimented with being vegan for one year after following a vegetarian diet for seven years. During her first stint with veganism, Lizzo lived in Minneapolis, a city she praises for creative vegan options.

Last year, Lizzo returned to veganism and announced the transition with a video featuring a vegan recipe she uses to cure hangover cravings. So being plant-based and vegan has been pretty easy except for when I am hungover, I used to crave cheesy eggs. So here is my substitute for cravings when youre hungover, Lizzo said, sharing a recipe for a vegan breakfast scramble made with JUST Egg and vegan pepper jack cheese served with a side of crispy maple syrup-glazed vegan bacon.

Lizzo spent a good portion of the last year-and-a-half creating recipes for unique vegan takes on her fast-food favorites and sharing them with her TikTok followers. From Lizzos version of McDonalds McChicken sandwich to vegan ice cream bread made with Ben & Jerrys dairy-free Netflix & Chilld flavor, Lizzo was out to show followers that veganism could be fun and easy.

While Lizzo started with fast-food copycat recipes, she quickly moved on to figuring out fun ways to celebrate vegetables. In April, Lizzo brought vegan Brussels sprout nachos into existence from a daydream. To create the unique dish, Lizzo air-fried the cruciferous veggies, topped them with vegan walnut meat, and generously drizzled them with vegan nacho cheese sauce by Mother Raw. This summer, Lizzo is calling carrots the new It girl and recently created a vegan feast centered around the orange veggie. Lizzos carrot feast included a carrot-based dip inspired by TikToker Nasim Lahbichi, carrot hot dogs, and carrot juice.

When she isnt making her own meals, Lizzo is the first in line to try new vegan foods. Last year, vegan brand Beyond Meat partnered with restaurant chain and food company Golden Krust to give their 30-year-old Jamaican beef patty recipe a vegan makeoverand Lizzo was one of the first people to try it. Im not exaggerating when I say today is possibly the best day of my life, Lizzo said while eating the vegan patties, adding that Golden Krusts version made her homemade Jamaican patties look janky.

The star also makes sure to support her local businesses for important occasions such as New Years Eve and the premiere of Beyoncs musical film Black Is King. For Juneteenth last year, Lizzo shared her multi-day vegan feast she had catered by Black-owned vegan businesses with her TikTok followers. The first day of the celebration featured carne asada tacos and pasta dishes from Compton-based Plate of Hue, followed the next day by chicken tenders, fries, saucy chicken sandwiches, and coleslaw from Lettuce Feast. The musician kept the celebration going with mac and cheese, asparagus, corn, mashed potatoes, ribs, and beans from The Fat Vegan and, on the final day, she scarfed down vegan mozzarella sticks, sandwiches, and cauliflower wings from Orange County, CA-based Munchies Vegan Diner.

Throughout her vegan journey, Lizzo has shared daily food journals, favorite dishes, and unique recipes, along with an unwavering message of body positivity. Love yourself at all stages of your life because you are who you are, Lizzo said in a TikTok video she shared to celebrate her six-month vegan anniversary in October.

As meat prices soar in Lebanon, veganism fills the gap for some – Reuters

BEIRUT, July 6 (Reuters) - While healthier lifestyles and greater awareness of climate issues have encouraged a rise in veganism around the world, some Lebanese are taking it up out of necessity.

As the country faces a financial crisis that has driven more than half the population into poverty, many Lebanese find they can't afford meat or chicken.

Prices are spiralling and salaries are collapsing as the local currency continues to fall after losing 90% of its value over the past two years.

"There are many problems in the country, even the army can't afford the right amount of meat and chicken in meals," said Camille Madi, the director of Basecamp, an association that distributes meals to the needy.

Budget cuts forced the military to cut meat from its meals last year.

Basecamp, which started work after the Beirut port blast last summer, had been delivering daily food parcels that included protein, but with donations shrinking and prices rising, a workaround was necessary.

It now delivers one to three times a month to those in need, providing food boxes instead of hot meals, with no meat and chicken.

Basecamp and the Lebanese Vegans Social Hub, which promotes veganism, joined forces to provide 100 vegan meals, Madi, explained as he oversaw volunteers delivering food parcels in Beirut's Karantina area, badly affected by the port explosion.

While delivering the aid boxes, Social Hub members were also raising awareness about vegan food and why it can be a solution now.

"Delivering vegan food is healthy and in this economic situation is very suitable, because a person can substitute the protein they are getting from meat, calcium they are getting from cheese, and every animal product can be substituted by vegan food and it's cheaper in this economic situation," said activist Roland Azar.

Madi says children who eat Manoushe, a Lebanese pizza topped with cheese, can improve the quality of their meals if they spend the same on vegan items.

"The kid who's eating a Manoushe every day won't have the necessary nutrients, but today with the price of one Manoushe, you can buy a kilo or two of vegetables that can provide him with the needed nutrients."

Green pensions ‘are 57 times better than veganism in the fight against climate change’ – Energy Live News – Energy Made Easy

Thinking of going vegan? Maybe your savings could offer better protection against climate change.

New research from Make My Money Matter, Aviva and Route2 estimates green pensions are nearly 57 times more effective at cutting emissions, than adopting a vegan diet.

A pension that is classified as green is an option offered by a provider whose schemes are aligned to the Paris Agreement.

The findings of the report show pensioners with a minimum pot of 100,000 could save through green pension schemes up to 64 tonnes of carbon. That translates to nine years worth of a UK citizens average carbon footprint.

The authors of the study also stress those with an average-sized pension pot who switch to a sustainable option, could save 19 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

Richard Curtis, Co-Founder of Make My Money Matter, said:We need the entire UK pensions industry to go green, making their default funds more sustainable so all savers can have a pension to be proud of.

As individuals, we have a critical role to play in driving this change by showing providers that we want our money invested in a way that does good, not harm and so that we can retire into a world that is not on fire.

More people turn to a plant-based diet in Turkey as access grows – TRT World

We spoke to the owners of a vegan restaurant, a doctor who recommends a plant-based diet, and a young vegan in Istanbul to see how the trend is growing in Turkey.

Ozge Sen and Belkis Boyacigiller started the vegan restaurant Bi Nevi Deli in August 2014 when they were in their early thirties. Boyacigiller says their decision was prompted by a lack of delicious, healthy and ethnically diverse culinary options when eating out.

We chose to spotlight new emerging superfoods and ingredients, many of which we introduced to the Turkish public, and create colourful, health-based dishes that would satisfy not just vegans and vegetarians but anyone who was looking for a good, refreshing meal, different from the standard fare, she writes in an email interview.

The menu at Bi Nevi Deli, located in Istanbuls Etiler district on the European side, is entirely vegan. Boyacigiller says they decided not to include anything that they didnt eat on the menu even when that meant cutting out the one vegetarian dish, a pimaniye (candy floss) cheesecake that was very Instagrammable back in the day in 2015.

Boyacigiller confirms that there is increased interest in veganism/vegetarianism in Turkey. She says in recent years, many new commercially available local brands have emerged, such as non-dairy alternative milk brands like Fomilk and Nilky, cheese brands like Orfa the Standard Vegan, Trakya Ciftligi, Fomilk, Cheezmir as well as meat alternatives like Veggys Dner, Tofu, Schnitzel, Moving Mountains Burgers, Vappys seitan, Limonita Vegan Butchers charcuterie options.

This, plus the pandemic and working from home, has helped contribute to an influx of new vegan influencers from Turkey creating content for the Turkish public, she adds. She also feels that with more products readily available, making the switch becomes a lot easier!

Sen and Boyacigiller follow vegan/vegetarian influencers on social media, such as Kathy Freston, Rich Roll, Lewis Hamilton, Dr. Garth Davis, TheGutHealthMD, Kimberly Snyder and Plant-based Juniors, who they say offer inspiration and key nutritional info.

Boyacigiller says she and her business partner Ozge Sen have been seeing an awareness that eating more plants is beneficial. Many of our customers, she points out, if not necessarily vegan, are eating plant-predominant diets.

Dr Murat Kinikoglu, 66, has been a vegan for more than seven years and a pescatarian (I used to eat fish once a week) for eight years before that: I havent eaten red meat, chicken, yogurt, eggs, cheese for fifteen years. I feel great, and my lab results are perfect. He says eating animals causes many ills, from inflammation to diabetes, to heart attacks, kidney failure, and high blood pressure, as evidenced by many scientific papers.

People are slaves to their eating habits, he notes, and they ignore these facts. Because I know eating vegan is a way to a healthy lifestyle, I recommend my patients follow a vegan diet.

He also believes that as in around the world, there is great interest in Turkey for vegan eating. When there is demand, the number of vegan restaurants and cafes increases, he says. Companies that deliver meals add vegan options to their menus. Leading a vegan lifestyle becomes easier day by day.

Bi Nevi Delis Boyacigiller gives credit to Netflix documentaries that are educating people on the atrocities occurring in commercial animal meat production and the negative effects on the environment that can be seen and felt firsthand. Add to that the documentaries showing the healing and strengthening powers of a whole-foods, plant-based diet like in The Game Changers and What the Health, we always see an uptick in new customer acquisition after the release of such documentaries on Netflix!

Munevver Dobur, 28, is one such vegan. She has been a vegan for four years, and was a vegetarian for one year before that. At first, she says, she was attracted to a vegan lifestyle for environmental reasons. But then she quickly realised there was an ethical component to it, after viewing documentaries on commercial farming and watching YouTube videos.

Now, she says, its not just about the food for me. I also care about how my clothes are made, buy cruelty-free cosmetics (not tested on animals or containing animal products), down-free pillows and medications that dont have animal-origin components.

According to Boyacigiller, many people became more conscious of what they put on their plates after realising that coronavirus is a zoonotic disease, and is a direct result of how we raise animals for human consumption.

Dr Kinikoglu agrees, pointing out that movements embraced by young people have always had a greater potential to grow. Becoming vegan and educational levels are directly correlated, he says. Young people are aware that the world is going through a crisis, that something needs to be done. Someone who switches to eating a plant-based diet doesnt just help their own health, but stops forests from being cleared by fire [to make way for agricultural land], and helps animals live.

Boyacigiller says that athletes and celebrities following a plant-based diet have also contributed to the popularity of vegetarianism/veganism: Many of the GOATs (greatest of all time) athletes in recent years are vegan or predominantly plant-based and this has garnered much attention in the benefits of a plant-based or vegan diet i.e. Tom Brady, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic. Female celebrities like Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, and Miley Cyrus eating vegan diets have also likely contributed to the popularity.

Dr Kinikoglu says he doesnt follow celebrity influencers but rather doctors who recommend low-fat plant-based diets to their patients. One of his favourites is Dr Neal Barnard, who Kinikoglu says supports all his nutritional claims with scientific articles.

Boyacigiller recommends going over to Moda, in Istanbuls Kadikoy district, a neighbourhood that has recently become increasingly popular with the younger generation, to see the future. Every restaurant there, she says, has at least one good vegan option if not, its bad for business. Boyacigiller foresees that this should become the norm all over Turkey in two-three years from now.

Munevver Dobur, a vegan who lives in Kadikoy, Istanbul, says she has never had a problem finding food to eat at Turkish restaurants throughout the country, especially those providing home cooked meals, zeytinyal (olive oil dishes) or mezes. She adds that every restaurant, chain or otherwise, has vegan options nowadays and that they are becoming increasingly available. She does make the distinction that some vegans are opposed to eating french fries at say, Burger King, because it contributes to the meat industry bottomline, but that it depends on the individual.

I had more trouble [finding plant-based food] when I lived in a small town called Burgos in Spain for six months, she says, and I was a vegetarian then. Every dish seemed to contain either meat or fish.

For Dr Kinikoglu, there is a vast difference between being a vegan and a vegetarian in that vegans dont consume milk, yogurt, eggs and other animal byproducts while vegetarians do. Becoming vegetarian might protect against some health problems, he says, but those consuming eggs, milk and dairy products may be negatively affected in the long run.

Asked to compare Indias strict Hindu vegetarianism and veganism, Boyacigiller says she sees a similarity but elaborates that Veganism takes this a bit further in that it is an ethical stance that opposes animal suffering in any form, hence not eating or using anything that is derived from an animal.

She ends by saying Eat at least one meal a day, totally vegan, and be part of the solution, rather than the problem!

Meatless in Savannah: Here’s where vegans go out to dine in the area – Savannah Morning News

Here are the best vegan restaurants to try in Savannah, Georgia

Dine and Dash host Martina Yvette checks out some of her favorite vegan spots in town: Mo'Vegan and Green Truck Pub.

Savannah Morning News

Gone is the era in Savannah when vegan diners hadto settle for a soggy baked potato and a side salad with the cheese plucked out.

Veganism is on the upswing, with two all-vegan restaurants in operation and a third on the way. Plenty of other restaurants aren't exclusively vegan but happily cater to those who eschew animal products.

Vegans, by the way,are vegetarians who not only don't eat meat (yes, that includes chicken and fish), but also avoid eggs, milk, and milk products like cheese and ice cream. Some vegans don't eat honey or yeast.

We asked the husband and wife team of Rachel and Scotty McDowell from Savannah Veggies and Vegans to give us their dining suggestions. McDowell, who works in IT at Savannah State University, is compiling a more comprehensive dining list for the group, which posts lots of vegan and vegetarian recipes, tips and meeting noticesonline atfacebook.com/groups/SavannahVeggiesandVegans/.

In the meantime, the McDowells shared their personal favorites. These are "places we've been to time and time again where we can always get a goodveganmeal prepared by people who are knowledgeable and happy to accommodate," as Rachel McDowell putit. Black Business Spotlight: Lifestyle Cafe owner talks veganism and the plant-based life – The Columbus Dispatch

Vegan offering at Lifestyle cafe

Lifestyle Cafe owner and chef Shanna Dean talks about healthy eating.

Doral Chenoweth, The Columbus Dispatch

As Shanna Dean alternates between meticulously folding vegan lunch wraps and speaking with customers as though she is keeping up with longtime friends, her cell phone buzzes atop the wooden kitchen counter.

She pauses for a moment, glances at the screen of the vibrating device, and then dives back into wrapping without giving it a second thought.

Thats the boyfriend, said Dean, the owner of vegan eatery Lifestyle Cafe. He knows Im working.

A more recent addition to Olde Towne East, Lifestyle lives in a catty-cornered storefront at Oak and South 18th streets. During the work day, the block just outside lacks the hustle and bustle of only a few miles away and a dozen months ago, where pre-pandemic stretches of Downtown Columbus sidewalks flowed with life.

Inside, however, is a different story. Warm sunlight streams through the front window, illuminating brick walls and paper lamps, as contemporary pop and R&B jams from ceiling speakers.

Between part-time jobs as a server, work as a personal chef and a stint in culinary school, elements of the restaurant industry have perpetually been in Deans life.

Little did I know, I was actually preparing myself. Its funny how life is, she said. Even though the writing was on the wall, I never thought I would be opening a restaurant.

Deans longtime friend and entrepreneur Dawn Dickson approached her in August 2019 about opening a business in the space previously vacated by the Angry Baker.

After mulling it over, Dean said she trusted her friend and went with it.

You have to be really creative, Dean said. But what infected me was the idea that I could feed people who are on their journey some food that will keep them on their journey.

After signing paperwork, stocking inventory and solidifying the menu including nine trial runs of the vegan chicken and waffles until Dean settled on one Lifestyle was ready to open to the public.

Core to Lifestyle Cafes culture is that it offers 100% vegan menu items, something that Dean holds near and dear. She became vegetarian at age 24, and switched to veganism in 2007, for both health and ethical reasons.

Thats what helped me with the menu, and coming up with things that people can really connect to, Dean said. When I cook at home, I want to have a pleasurable experience, so I lean on the spices and the flavors that made traditional foods appealing. Its worked so far.

Lifestyle offers vegan menu items that mimic non-vegan cuisine egg and cheese melts, BLTs and buffalo chicken balls are all made to order.

Deans daughter, Cadence Addison, works behind the counter at Lifestyle. A vegetarian herself, she said shes grown a lot on the job.

Ive learned a lot of different nutrients, Addison said, adding that working at LifestyleCafe has also taught her about customer service.

Working with mom as your boss is better than working at Piada, Dean said of her daughter.

Joshua Douglas, 30, stopped by Lifestyle to pick up a late lunch and to immerse himself in the budding vegan scene in Columbus.

Douglas himself owns the first U.S. franchise of Greenhouse Canteen, an Australian plant-based restaurant and bar concept that he opened on the Northwest Side of Columbus in late summer 2020.

On a Thursday afternoon in June 2021, lunchtime at Lifestyle cultivates a space where people sit and talk long after their plates are empty.

Its only recently that way.

Lifestyle Cafe opened in January 2020, only two months before the COVID-19 pandemic rocked Columbus and the rest of the world.

In the two months before the pandemic, business was bumping, according to Dean. Everything slowed to nearly a halt until June 2020. In the throes of the reignited Black Lives Matter movement, Dean said customers came frequently.

I had a lot of people come to me here, just trying to support a Black business, Dean said. I was super thankful for that.

But by July, the flow of people in and out the door had dried up again.

With revenue down, Dean had to make challenging decisions in 2020, including with her own finances. She introduced delivery, but reduced the menu, number of workers and store hours.

Anything that didnt have to be paid, for me to operate the restaurant, was not paid, Dean added.

Paycheck Protection Program and CARES Act funding provided much-needed relief during the pandemic.

Even as health restrictions on restaurants were lifted and the pandemic seemed to ease in the United States, owning and operating a newer, local business has not been without hardships. Dean's head chef was recently outwith an injury; she also has struggled to hire a full slate of workers.

Labor shortage:Desperate employers in Ohio luring workers with pay, perks and pizza

Toward the end of the summer, Dean plans to pack up and move to Atlanta. Addison is set to start her freshman year at Alabama State University, just a few hours' drive from Atlanta.

Dean's head chef will be running the kitchen at Lifestyle, and Dean plans to travel back and forth. She also hopes to open a new restaurant with a different concept in Atlanta.

RZA to Grant $100k to Black-Owned Restaurants That Try Vegan – LIVEKINDLY

RZA is helping Black-owned restaurants go vegan. The Wu-Tang Clan member donated a $100,000 grant to help businesses include more plant-based dishes on their menus.

RZAs grant was made in partnership with Upfield-owned brand Violife. The plant-based foods manufacturers multi-year grant program, Plant Grants, promotes eating vegan through funding, education, and mentorship opportunities.

According to the vegan company, this years initiative aims to help Black-owned restaurants that are struggling due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Minority-owned businesses have suffered disproportionately amid the COVID-19 crisis. According to a 2020 report by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Black-owned businesses in America fell by 41 percent from February to April. Latinx business owners declined by 32 percent. Asian-owned businesses dropped by 26 percent.

Supporting Plant Grants is important to me because it will fund Black-owned restaurants who are the fabric of their communities, RZA said.

The rappers generous donation to a vegan cause should come as no surprise. He ditched animal products in the 90s. Since then, hes been outspoken about the positive impacts of consuming a plant-based diet.

When you think of a better tomorrow, you think about veganism in the world, RZA said. I dont need a dead animal or a dead piece of flesh to go into my live body, he added. Theres not nothing on this planet that doesnt want to live.

In addition to receiving financial support, the Black-owned businesses will learn how to develop plant-based menu offerings through the program.

Pioneering vegan chefs Lemel Durrah and Laricia Chandler Baker will teach grant recipients how to cook with plant-based ingredients. Durrah is the founder of Los Angeles-based vegan soul food company Compton Vegan. Chandler Baker is the co-owner of Chicago vegetarian restaurant I Cant Believe Its Not Meat.

Grant applications for Plant Grants will be open until July 31, 2021. In addition to being Black-owned, criteria include having less than 50 employees and being currently open and operational. Violife will award five $20,000 grants to Black-owned restaurants that are committed to embracing plant-based foods on their menus.

ASC Therapeutics Receives IND Clearance From the US Food and Drug Administration for ASC618 Second-Generation Gene Therapy for Hemophilia A | DNA RNA…

DetailsCategory: DNA RNA and CellsPublished on Thursday, 08 July 2021 09:39Hits: 355

MILPITAS, CA, USA I July 7, 2021 I ASC Therapeutics, a privately-held biopharmaceutical company pioneering the development of transformative in-vivo gene replacement, gene editing and allogeneic cell therapies for hematologic and other rare disorders today announced that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for ASC618, an investigational second-generation gene therapy for patients with severe and moderately severe hemophilia A. The transformational Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) construct contains a proprietary B-domain deleted codon-optimized bioengineered chimeric Factor VIII (FVIII) gene and a minimal-length liver-specific promoter, shown in pre-clinical studies to produce therapeutic levels of FVIII protein at doses that are significantly lower than other constructs expressing the native human FVIII currently in clinical trials.

Ruhong Jiang, PhD, ASC Therapeutics CEO said, FDAs IND clearance of ASC618 is a significant endorsement of the discovery, pre-clinical, analytical, clinical, regulatory, quality, manufacturing, and overall capabilities of our organization. This milestone culminates our transformation into a clinical-stage gene and cell therapy biopharmaceutical company.

Steven Pipe, MD, PhD, professor of pediatrics and pathology and pediatric medical director of the hemophilia and coagulation disorders program at the University of Michigan, and the principal investigator of the ASC618 phase 1/2 clinical trial, stated, ASC618 design provides a novel perspective to the field of hemophilia gene therapy. For the first time we will be able to investigate in a clinical setting the relevance of a novel bioengineered construct that has been proven in pre-clinical studies to significantly improve the biosynthesis, protein folding and secretion of factor VIII.

About Hemophilia A

Hemophilia A accounts for most cases of hemophilia (~80%), affecting approximately 1 of every 5000 live-born males. Over a million people around the world are estimated to have hemophilia, including more than 30,000 in the United States (US)1.

Currently, patients with hemophilia A are managed with prophylactic or on-demand replacement therapy with recombinant FVIII or bypassing agents. The major challenges of current treatment regimens, such the short half-life of hemophilia therapeutics with need for frequent intravenous injections, justify ongoing focus on gene replacement therapies.

About ASC618

ASC618 is an AAV8-based gene therapy product incorporating a novel liver-specific promoter and a bioengineered, codon-optimized B domain-deleted FVIII variant; in preclinical studies, ASC618 exhibits at least a 10-fold increase in the biosynthesis and secretion of FVIII compared with native human FVIII bioengineered constructs. ASC618 has the potential to increase durability of clotting factor biosynthesis and secretion by minimizing cellular stress and induction of the unfolded protein response, which may lead to diminished FVIII production from liver cells. ASC618 was developed based on extensive work on a second-generation gene therapy for hemophilia A from an academic team at Emory University2. ASC Therapeutics has obtained exclusive global rights to ASC618 from Expression Therapeutics and has conducted IND-enabling studies in multiple animal models3.

ASC Therapeutics will conduct a phase 1/2 clinical trial to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of ASC618. The program was granted Orphan Drug Designation by the FDA in 2020. The study design is available at http://www.clinicaltrials.gov4.

Natural Human Molecule Identified That Blocks Toxic Forms of Parkinsons-Related Protein – SciTechDaily

Researchers at the UAB and the UniZar have identified a human peptide found in the brain that blocks the -synuclein aggregates involved in Parkinsons disease and prevents their neurotoxicity. The study, published in Nature Communications, suggests that this could be one of the organisms natural mechanisms with which to fight aggregation. The discovery may help to develop new therapeutic and diagnosis strategies for Parkinsons disease and other synuclein pathologies.

The death of neurons specialized in the synthesis of dopamine, one of the brains main neurotransmitters, deteriorates the motor and cognitive capacities of those with Parkinsons disease. The loss of these neurons is related to alpha-synuclein aggregation. Recent studies show that oligomers, the initial aggregates of this protein, are the most pathogenic forms of -synuclein and are responsible for the spreading of the disease in the brain.

Therefore, one of the more promising approaches in fighting this disorder consists in neutralizing these oligomers and, thus, slow down the pathological progression. However, the fact that these aggregates do not present a defined structure and that they are transitory by nature makes it extremely difficult to identify molecules that bind with enough strength as to explore any clinical application.

A scientific collaboration between researchers from the Institute for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB) at the Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona (UAB) and from the Instituto de Biocomputacin y Fsica de Sistemas Complejos (BIFI) of the Universidad de Zaragoza (UniZar) now has been able to identify a human endogenous peptide which strongly and specifically attaches to the -synuclein oligomers, thus avoiding their aggregation and blocking their neurotoxicity, two processes closely related to the neurodegenerative decline of Parkinsons disease. The identification and study of the peptide, called LL-37, was recently published in Nature Communications.

LL-37 interacts with the toxic alpha-synuclein oligomers in a selective manner and with a strength superior to that of any peptide previously described, equivalent to the strength exhibited by antibodies. It inhibits aggregation at very low concentrations and protects neuronal cells from being damaged, researchers point out.

They add that, LL-37 is found naturally in the human organism, both in the brain and in the intestine, organs in which -synuclein aggregation takes place in Parkinsons disease. This suggests that LL-37s activity might respond to a mechanism developed by the body itself as a means to naturally fight this disease.

Encouraged by this idea, researchers now want to study how its expression can be regulated and if this strategy can become a safe therapy with the potential of influencing the course of the disease. There is a possibility that a therapy for Parkinsons disease already lies in our interior and that it only needs to be activated correctly, states Salvador Ventura, researcher at the IBB and coordinator of the study.

The identification of LL-37 was conducted under the framework of research analyzing the structure and characteristics of pathogenic oligomers with the aim of neutralizing them in a specific manner. The analyses conducted demonstrate that helical peptides with a hydrophobic side and another positively charged side are ideal for this type of activity. The trials allowed researchers to identify three molecules with anti-aggregation activity: in addition to the human molecule, a second peptide present in bacteria and a third artificially made molecule were identified.

In addition to representing a possible therapeutic route for Parkinsons disease and other synuclein pathologies, the molecules identified in the study are promising tools for its diagnosis, given that they discriminate between functional and toxic -synuclein species.

Until now there were no molecules capable of selectively and efficiently identifying toxic -synuclein aggregates; the peptides we present on these issues are unique and, therefore, have great potential as diagnostic and prognostic tools, says study co-coordinator Nunilo Cremades, researcher at BIFI-UniZar.

In the study, over 25,000 human peptides were computationally analyzed, and single-molecule spectroscopy methods, as well as protein engineering, were applied, in addition to cell cultures in vitro using toxic oligomers.

FROM THE LABS: Cells arrange their chromosomes following one of two designs – Baylor College of Medicine News

A team of biologists studying the tree of life has unveiled a new classification system for cell nuclei according to how chromosomes, which can be several meters long, fold up to fit inside the nuclei. They also discovered a method for transmuting one type of cell nucleus into another.

The study, which appears in the journal Science, emerged from several once-separate efforts. One effort is centered on the DNA Zoo, an international consortium spanning dozens of institutions including Baylor College of Medicine, the National Science Foundation-supportedCenter for Theoretical Biological Physics (CTBP) at Rice University, the University of Western Australia and SeaWorld. The other effort emerged from an independent team in theNetherlands Cancer Institute.

Whether we were looking at worms or urchins, sea squirts or coral, we kept seeing the same folding patterns coming up, saidDr. Olga Dudchenko, co-first author of the new study and a member of theCenter for Genome Architecture at Baylor and CTBP.

Eventually, the team realized it was just seeing variants on two overall nuclear designs. In some species, chromosomes are organized like the pages of a printed newspaper, with the outer margins on one side and the folded middle at the other, explained Dudchenko, who also is co-director of DNA Zoo. And then in other species, each chromosome is crumpled into a little ball.

So we had a puzzle, saidDr. Erez Lieberman Aiden, an associate professor ofmolecular and human geneticsand Emeritus McNair Scholar at Baylor, co-director of the DNA Zoo and senior author on the new study. The data implied that over the course of evolution, species can switch back and forth from one type to the other. We wondered: What is the controlling mechanism? Might it be possible to change one type of nucleus into another in the lab? Aiden also is director of the Center for Genome Architecture and a senior investigator at CTBP.

Meanwhile, an independent team in the Netherlands had discovered something unexpected. I was doing experiments on a protein called condensin II, which we knew plays a role in how cells divide, said Claire Hoencamp, co-first author of the study and a member of the laboratory ofDr. Benjamin Rowlandat theNetherlands Cancer Institute. But we observed the strangest thing: When we mutated the protein in human cells, the chromosomes would totally rearrange. It was baffling!

The two teams met at a conference in the Austrian mountains, where Rowland presented his labs latest work. They soon realized that Hoencamp had hit on a way to convert human cells from one nuclear type to another.

When we looked at the genomes being studied at the DNA Zoo, we discovered that evolution had already done our experiment many, many times! When mutations in a species break condensin II, they usually flip the whole architecture of the nucleus, said Rowland, senior author on the study.

Its always a little disappointing to get scooped on an experiment, but evolution had a very long head start.

The team decided to work together to confirm condensin IIs role. But then the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and much of the world shut down.

Without access to our laboratories, we were left with only one way to establish what condensin II was doing, Hoencamp said. We needed to create a computer program that could simulate the effects of condensin II on the chain of hundreds of millions of genetic letters that comprise each human chromosome.

The team turned toDr. Jos Onuchic, the Harry C. and Olga K. Wiess Chair of Physics at Rice. Our simulations showed that by destroying condensin II, you could make a human nucleus reorganize to resemble a fly nucleus, said Onuchic, co-director of CTBP, which includes collaborators at Rice, Baylor, Northeastern University and other institutions in Houston and Boston.

The simulations were performed by a team within Onuchics lab at CTBP, led by postdoctoral fellow and co-first author Dr. Sumitabha Brahmachari, working with Dr. Vinicius Contessoto, a former postdoc at CTBP, and Dr. Michele Di Pierro, a CTBP senior investigator and currently an assistant professor at Northeastern University.

We began with an incredibly broad survey of 2 billion years of nuclear evolution, Brahmachari said.

We found that much boils down to one simple mechanism, that we can simulate as well as recapitulate, on our own, in a test tube.

Its an exciting step on the road to a new kind of genome engineering in 3D!

Work at Rice, Baylor and Northeastern was supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Welch Institute, the National Institutes of Health, the NSF-supported Behavioral Plasticity Research Institute, IBM, the Pawsey Supercomputing Center and Illumina Inc.

The figurine features a slender Chestnut holding a tray of franks while standing on a hot dog-shaped base with a built-in counter. The chomping champ nicknamed Jaws wears a t-shirt that says, Hot Dog Eating Champion.

This year on the Fourth of July, the 37-year-old Chestnut had consumed 76 hot dogs and buns in the annual 10-minute contest. He beat his own record established over a six-year tenure as the reigning Mustard Belt holder. He took the top title in Nathans contest six years ago from another world famous food scoffer, Takeru Tsunami Kobayashi.

According to the HOF and Museum, Chestnut holds over 50 world eating records that include speed consumption of foods that range from lobsters to tamales to Twinkies. The Museum said that he prepares for gorges by expanding the stomach with milk, water and protein supplements, then fasts a few days prior to competition. Last year, Chestnut told CNBC he trains for three months prior to the Coney contest with weekend practice runs and recovery days to follow.

Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said, Were excited to unveil this unique bobblehead of the greatest eater of all time. By claiming top honors in the Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest year after year, Joeys victories have become a Fourth-of-July tradition and his legacy as the worlds greatest eater will be hard to top.

EATING CONTESTS ON STATEN ISLAND

Staten Islands competitive eating contests will happen at the Richmond County Fair this September. Details are forthcoming from the Historical Society that runs the showdowns but, generally speaking, the edibles will involve pies and hot dogs. Former champions have included Eltingville resident Bill LaCurtis, a perennial competitor who tackles the bun and dog separately. He first soaks the bread in water which eases it down the esophagus.

In 2019, Empire Outlets sponsored the boroughs first cannoli-eating competition. Nine competitors from around the country came to the St. George shopping complex to gobble down the goods for gift cards and a gym membership. Eaters bellied up to folding tables for a three-minute session. The winner that year was Gentleman Joe Menchetti of Cheshire, Ct. who shoveled down 22 red-white-and-blue sprinkled cannoli crafted by Marks Bake Shoppe in Richmond.

The annual San Gennaro Feast also holds a contest with cannoli as the centerpiece. Staten Islanders have been in the spotlight at this presentation in Little Italy in years past. Former winners have included Joe Gavone Rose and Krazy Kevin Lipsitz. Lipsitz announced his retirement from competitive eating at the 2008 Feast.

Low Testosterone in Women – How to Increase a Woman’s Low T-levels – L.A. Weekly

There are many things that can cause low levels of testosterone in women, such as menopause, aging, and problems with the ovaries or the pituitary or adrenal glands. So how can you increase levels of testosterone in women?

There are some ways you can boost your level of this hormone naturally. In this article we will discuss how to raise female testosterone production, why women would want to raise their T hormone levels and what steps should be taken and which supplements help with the process.

Women produce much of their testosterone in the Ledydig cells in their ovaries. Several factors including aging and disease can decrease female testosterone production, causing weak bones and many other problems. Hypoactive sexual desire disorder, adrenal insufficiency and weight gain are other symptoms of low testosterone in women.

Thankfully, there are several things women can do to increase testosterone production.

There are two main reasons.

Supplements are an effective and quick solution to both of the above reasons.

There are dozens of T-boosting supplements on the market. Most of them are aimed at men, obviously, as men make up 90% of the market. There is no reason why women cannot use these products. The opposite is true in the weight loss market where most products are aimed at the female marketplace but this doesnt exclude men from using.

Women want to increase their testosterone levels because either they need to or they want to. The need is covered in this article in great detail, this is due to conditions (postmenopausal women, hormone replacement therapy). The other other group is women who want more testosterone if they are keen bodybuilders and want increased muscle mass.

Here are the best T boosters for each group.

TestoPrime is a naturally formulated supplement suitable for anyone over the age of 18 that suffers from testosterone deficiency.

You will have to look past the male centric web copy as the product has a larger male customer base.

TestoPrime is arguably the most effective and efficient product of its ilk. It has lots of clinical data to enforce its claims. At the bottom of the official website there are 18 points of reference to clinical studies.

This is the most suitable, most effective and safest testosterone supplement for men.

Testo Max is part of the Crazy Bulk bodybuilding supplement range. It is a more edgy product that delivers top end of testosterone treatment benefits.

It is classed as a legal steroid but doesnt actually contain any steroidal substance.

If you want to gain muscle mass, strength and lose body fat then Testo Max is the supplement for you.

Although testosterone is the male sex hormone levels, women produce a small amount of it in their bodies as well and it plays a surprisingly important role in maintaining female good health.

Women need adequate testosterone levels to sustain bone density, support muscle growth, and maintain healthy brain function.

A few of the other roles the male sex hormone plays in a womans body include:

The things men do to improve testosterone levels and production work equally well for women. Many of the changes that raise female testosterone levels are lifestyle-related and, in addition to boosting hormone production, will help support general good health.

Research shows lifting weights can improve testosterone levels in women and men. This type of resistance training is also good for improving muscle tone and muscle mass and provides the classic beach body so many women crave. It can also help to reduce body fat.

Several studies have explored the way resistance training can influence how much testosterone women produce in their bodies. The results of one of them suggest this type of exercise may increase free testosterone levels by as much as 25 percent.

Lifting weights is not the only type of exercise that can favorably influence testosterone levels and hormone production. Many other athletic pursuits, such as running and sports, can do it too.

A lot of the studies evaluating the way exercise affects hormone production were conducted on men. However, a number of studies were women-only or had participants of both sexes.

The results of one women-only study involving treadmill activity show prolonged aerobic exercise produced short-term elevations in testosterone.

Stress can reduce testosterone in men and women so, where possible, its best to avoid people and situations that cause it.

During periods of stress, your body starts producing extra cortisol (stress hormone). High cortisol can have a lot of undesirable effects on the female body. One of the things it can do is cause irregular periods.

Your body produces cortisol from one of the same precursors it needs to manufacture testosterone. So, when the demand for cortisol increases, your body may not have enough of one of the raw ingredients that are necessary to make testosterone.

If you cannot avoid the things that cause stress, you need to control it. There are many ways you can do this but certain ones may work better for some women than they do for others.

For instance, some women like to de-stress at the gym. Others prefer to take a leisurely stroll. Yoga and mediation are also good for calming the mind. So are music, painting, and other artistic pursuits.

Its also a good idea to get plenty of sleep. Constantly trying to burn the candle at both ends increases cortisol and stress.

If you find it hard to get to sleep, a cup of chamomile tea may help. The herb ashwagandha may be doubly useful because, as well as aiding sleep, it reduces anxiety and stress.

Several nutrients have a role to play in testosterone production including B vitamins, Vitamin D, zinc, and magnesium. Eating foods that provide Omega-3 fatty acids is another good way to boost testosterone.

Some of the best testosterone-boosting foods are:

Vitamin D and zinc are often considered to be two of the most important testosterone boosting nutrients. A lot of the best testosterone boosting supplements contain one of them. Most contain both.

In addition to boosting testosterone levels, getting plenty of Vitamin D and zinc also enhances immune function. Many people take these vitamins in pill form for that reason, often combining them with Vitamin C.

Several herbs and plants provide compounds that can stimulate increased testosterone levels. The best of them are often combined in testosterone-boosting supplements but many of them, such as ashwagandha and ginseng can be purchased in concentrated form in capsules and pills.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a popular adaptogen herb thats a mainstay of traditional Indian medicine and has now become a popular herbal supplement all over the world.

The herb appears to boost testosterone production by stimulating the release of extra luteinizing hormone (a fore-runner to testosterone). However, Ashwagandha is possibly more famous for its ability to reduce stress.

In addition to being a key player in many products that boost testosterone, Ashwagandha is often added to beauty products because its ability to support increases in collagen production helps beautify the skin from the inside out.

Most of the best supplements provide Ashwagandha as KSM 66. This is a patented extract that provides Ashwagandha in a consistently potent form.

Traditional Chinese healers hold ginseng in high regard for its versatility as a medicinal herb. The Chinese also believe ginseng is a herb that can extend life.

People living in the west are also becoming increasingly aware of the herbs curative abilities but often have greater interest in its reputation as an aphrodisiac.

People often use ginseng supplements to increase sexual desire. Some of its prowess as a libido booster appears to be due to its ability to boost testosterone but most of the studies that show this were conducted on men.

But can it do the same for women? The results from a study conducted at the University of Edinburgh suggest that it may. However, it appears women who are older may attain the greatest level of benefit.

Green tea provides potent antioxidants that help the body get rid of toxins, encourage fat loss, and may help prevent aging. These antioxidants (green tea catechins) are only present in green tea.

One of the most important catechins in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) also helps to maintain circulating testosterone levels by preventing it from being converted to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Most women are familiar with fenugreek. Its a very popular Indian cooking herb. Some women may also have noticed fenugreek listed as an ingredient in some of their cosmetic products because its sometimes used in facial toners and cleansers and similar products that aim to provide glowing, healthy skin.

However, fenugreek is very versatile and is associated with many health benefits, some of which are probably related to its ability to raise female testosterone levels.

Pomegranate is nutritious, tasty, and very good for your health. The ellagic acid it provides cleans the arteries and helps improve circulation. This removes unnecessary strain from the heart.

Research from 2012 suggests pomegranate extracts are also good for boosting testosterone levels and, like several other natural testosterone boosting ingredients, pomegranate provides antioxidants that can help improve the look of your skin.

Women may not require as much testosterone as men do but they still need it women produce testosterone but not as much as men. It helps keep their bones strong, improves body composition, maintains libido, and supports many other aspects of physical and mental wellbeing.

It is important to be aware to not go overboard as too much testosterone can have just an impact as too little.

Unfortunately, many women struggle with low testosterone levels. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a problem that only affects men.

Fortunately, there are plenty of things women can do to increase their natural testosterone production such as avoiding stress, adopting healthier lifestyles, and placing extra focus on foods that provide testosterone-boosting nutrients. Testosterone replacement therapy is another option (with testosterone injections, pellets or patches) but this can be quite invasive. Testosterone therapy and hormone therapy can be quite costly

Certain herbs also can boost female free testosterone levels. The best ones can be purchased individually or combined in supplements that have been developed to function as natural testosterone boosters.

However, if you are suffering from low hormone levels, the best course of action may be to hit the problem from all sides.

Avoid stress where you can, get more exercise, and eat a healthy well-balanced diet that is rich in nutrients and low in sugar and saturated fats. Then, if you want to maximize the overall benefits, take a suitable testosterone boosting supplement as well. TestoPrime and Testo Max are arguably the best examples of female T-boosters.

In addition to increasing low testosterone in women, this combination of changes should help you feel and look healthier and experience an increased joie de vivre.

Wild Gingers Homestead specializes in herbal products and plants

WATERLOO Since 2013, Wild Gingers Homestead, has been offering organically-grown herbs and plants and foraged food products.

Owner Chaille Shaw said when she retired from law enforcement, she was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and she found that herbal remedies helped her with her symptoms.

Shaw, who studied horticulture, plant taxonomy and art, saw a good fit for her knowledge.

It was a great idea, she said. It had been my hobby and passion since the 90s.

Not wanting to use pharmaceutical drugs, she decided to go a natural route.

I knew there had to be a better way, she said.

One of those she chose to grow was passion flower, native to Ohio, and a vine with an edible fruit. It has been used in folk medicine to treat stress and anxiety.

Another is valerian, a flowering plant, native to Europe and Asia, known for its calming effects. She began selling and giving away the excess of what she grew.

And, from there, it became a beautiful garden of herbs, Shaw said of the business, which is located on Forest Ridge Road in Waterloo.

While Wild Gingers does not have a brick and mortar location, she runs things through Facebook, which she updates regularly with posts on the homestead.

For instance, recent ones have shown a plentiful crop of gooseberries and organic cherries.

Shaw said those interested in her products can message her on Facebook, and she will travel to them.

I will meet them in any direction, she said.

She follows the philosophy of permaculture, an ecologically harmonious approach to growing, which uses the existing topography of the land.

She said this promotes good stewardship of the land, minimizes a carbon footprint and is more sustainable.

And it reduces the workload, she said.

Shaw also specializes in foraging and, in addition to selling products found in the wild, she works to educate people on the subject.

Ill come to anyones house to teach foraging, she said.

With the COVID-19 pandemic subsiding, Shaw said she plans to attend more events and sell her wares at local farmers markets, as well as get her products into small stores and specialty shops.

She said one of those will be the Wild Ramp, a year-round farmers and food market located on Huntingtons west end.

For the past few years, Shaw has also organized communitywide scavenger and treasure hunts, activities that had two aims: to give families something to do during the pandemic and to promote businesses out in the county. Those taking part followed clues and drove to different stops on the hunt, with the winner receiving a prize basket of items from local businesses.

The proceeds of these events went to charity, with donations made to veterans groups and Backpack Buddies. Later this year, Shaw said she plans to host another event, with the donation going to Collins Career Technical Center student who was assaulted and injured in Huntington earlier this month.

From dealing with PTSD to finding remedies, Shaw said she hopes her experience, work and research in the field can help others.

It promotes healing and I hope to be an inspiration to other women, she said.

Fitness Influencers’ Best Healthy Living Tips – AARP

Influencer:Carla Kemp, 58, personal assistant-real estate investor

Instagram: @fabnfitbycarla

Location:Los Angeles

After having her daughter, in 1984, Kemp was determined to get back to a healthy weight. That motivated her to join a gym. Once she saw the results of regular workouts, she says, she never stopped.

I choose different fitness components to focus on each day, without having to spend hours each time working out. I do cross training yoga for flexibility; a cardiovascular workout for my heart, like a spin class two or three times a week. Then I'll follow that up with ab work or stretching. The other three days I focus on weight training, with free weights or machines.

I listen to my music. I love Motown, old-school music. I walk in with my music in my ears and leave with my music; that keeps me motivated and going. If I forget my music, I'm like, Oh no, what am I going to do?"

When I get burned out I'll hire a trainer or I'll take on new activities. Those have included joining a swim team, playing tennis and training for a marathon. I'm just kind of an adventurous person by spirit. I like trying new things. Roller skating is my new hobby. It's a great workout.

Establish a daily routine that you can stick to. If you haven't been doing anything, start with something not too aggressive, like a 10-minute walk, then slowly add on to it. You'll notice you start looking forward to it.

You also need to make the correlation that exercise is just like brushing your teeth, just like combing your hair it's something you have to do. Once you start doing it, you will stop fighting it; it will become a normal part of what you do.

Breakfast: I drink a protein shake or fruit with a little yogurt, granola, nuts or seeds. I try to eat whatever fruit is in season.

Lunch: Simple works for me: salad with greens, kale, arugula, veggies, nuts and maybe some fruit in it. I do think a crunch factor is good, as it helps satisfy you cucumbers, carrots, radishes, broccoli.

Dinner: I like to have some type of warm vegetables over a salad or rice or couscous, warm cauliflower steak, sweet potatoes.

Nighttime: Popcorn, that's my treat. I drizzle some olive oil on it and sprinkle on sea salt. I air-pop it. I don't have a microwave.

If I'm out with a girlfriend and she's having something I wouldn't typically eat, like a dessert or fried food, I might indulge in it. I just don't go overboard. I'll also have a cocktail out occasionally.

I spend more time warming up. I also notice that weight training is so critical to hold on to muscle tone. I always knew flexibility was important, but now I realize it even more.

I don't feel the need to be working out at the intensity that I was when I was in my 20s and 30s. Strength training, breaking a sweat and consistency is now key. I'm kind of taking the easier approach because I don't want to cause an injury even a minor one. If something made me stop, I would just be a wreck.
