Ethereum fixes serious eclipse flaw that could be exploited …

Developers of Ethereum, the world's No. 2 digital currency by market capitalization, have closed a serious security hole that allowed virtually anyone with an Internet connection to manipulate individual users' access to the publicly accessible ledger.

So-called eclipse attacks work by preventing a cryptocurrency user from connecting to honest peers. Attacker-controlled peers then feed the target a manipulated version of the blockchain the entire currency community relies on to reconcile transactions and enforce contractual obligations. Eclipse attacks can be used to trick targets into paying for a good or service more than once and to co-opt the target's computing power to manipulate algorithms that establish crucial user consensus. Because Ethereum supports "smart contracts" that automatically execute transactions when certain conditions in the blockchain are present, Ethereum eclipse attacks can also be used to interfere with those self-enforcing agreements.

Like most cryptocurrencies, Ethereum uses a peer-to-peer mechanism that compiles input from individual users into an authoritative blockchain. In 2015 and again in 2016, separate research teams devised eclipse attacks against Bitcoin that exploited P2P weaknesses. Both were relatively hard to pull off. The 2015 attack required a botnet or a small ISP that controlled thousands of devices, while the 2016 attack relied on the control of huge chunks of Internet addresses through a technique known as border gateway protocol hijacking. The demands made it likely that both attacks could be carried out only by sophisticated and well-resourced hackers.

Many researchers believed that the resources necessary for a successful eclipse attack against Ethereum would considerably higher than the Bitcoin attacks. After all, Ethereum's P2P network includes a robust mechanism for cryptographically authenticating messages and by default peers establish 13 outgoing connections, compared with eight for Bitcoin. Now, some of the same researchers who devised the 2015 Bitcoin attack are back to set the record straight. In a paper published Thursday, they wrote:

We demonstrate that the conventional wisdom is false. We present new eclipse attacks showing that, prior to the disclosure of this work in January 2018, Ethereum's peer-to-peer network was significantly less secure than that of Bitcoin. Our eclipse attackers need only control two machines, each with only a single IP address. The attacks are off-path-the attacker controls endhosts only and does not occupy a privileged position between the victim and the rest of the Ethereum network. By contrast, the best known off-path eclipse attacks on Bitcoin require the attacker to control hundreds of host machines, each with a distinct IP address. For most Internet users, it is far from trivial to obtain hundreds (or thousands) of IP addresses. This is why the Bitcoin eclipse attacker envisioned [in the 2015 research] was a full-fledged botnet or Internet Service Provider, while the BGP-hijacker Bitcoin eclipse attacker envisioned [in the 2016 paper] needed access to a BGP-speaking core Internet router. By contrast, our attacks can be run by any kid with a machine and a script.

In January, the researchers reported their findings to Ethereum developers. They responded by making changes to geth, the most popular application supporting the Ethereum protocol. Ethereum users who rely on geth should ensure they've installed version 1.8 or higher. The researchers didn't attempt the same attacks against other Ethereum clients. In an email, Ethereum developer Felix Lange wrote:

"We have done our best to mitigate the attacks within the limits of the protocol. The paper is concerned with 'low-resource' eclipse attacks. As far as we know, the bar has been raised high enough that eclipse attacks are not feasible without more substantial resources, with the patches that have been implemented in geth v1.8.0." Lange went on to say he didn't believe another popular Ethereum app called Parity is vulnerable to the same attacks.

The paper, titled Low-Resource Eclipse Attacks on Ethereum's Peer-to-Peer Network, described two separate attacks. The simplest one relied on two IP addresses, which each generate large numbers of cryptographic keys that the Ethereum protocol uses to designate peer-to-peer nodes. The attacker then waits for a target to reboot the computer, either in the due course of time, or after the hacker sends various malicious packets that cause a system crash. As the target is rejoining the Ethereum network, the attacker uses the pool of nodes to establish incoming connections before the target can establish any outgoing ones.

The second technique works by creating a large number of attacker-controlled nodes and sending a special packet that effectively poisons the target's database with the fraudulent nodes. When the target reboots, all of the peers it connects to will belong to the attacker. In both cases, once the target is isolated from legitimate nodes, the attacker can present a false version of the blockchain. With no peers challenging that version, the target will assume the manipulated version is the official blockchain.

The researchers presented a third technique that makes eclipse attacks easier to carry out. In a nutshell, it works by setting the target's computer clock 20 or more seconds ahead of the other nodes in the Ethereum network. To prevent so-called replay attacksin which a hacker resends an old authenticated message in an attempt to get it executed more than oncethe Ethereum protocol rejects messages that are more than 20 seconds old. By setting a target's clock ahead, attackers can cause the target to lose touch with all legitimate users. The attackers use malicious nodes with the same clock time to connect to the target. Some of the same researchers behind the Ethereum eclipse technique described a variety of timing attacks in a separate paper published in 2015.

Ethereum developers put a countermeasure in place against the first attack that ensures each node will always make outgoing connections to other peers. The fix for the second attack involved limiting the number of outgoing connections a target can make to the same /24 chunk of IP address to 10. The changes are designed to make it significantly harder to completely isolate a user from other legitimate users. When even a single node presents users with a different version of the blockchain, they will be warned of an error that effectively defeats the attack.

Ethereum developers haven't implemented a fix for the time-based attack. Since it generally requires an attacker to manipulate traffic over the target's Internet connection or to exploit non-Ethereum vulnerabilities on the target's computer, it likely poses less of a threat than the other two attacks.

The researchers, from Boston University and the University of Pittsburgh, warned users to protect themselves against the eclipse threat.

"Given the increasing importance of Ethereum to the global blockchain ecosystem, we think it's imperative that countermeasures preventing them be adopted as soon as possible," they wrote. "Ethereum node operators should immediately upgrade to geth v1.8."

America’s War on Drugs – HISTORY

Americas War on Drugs is an immersive trip through the last five decades, uncovering how the CIA, obsessed with keeping America safe in the fight against communism, allied itself with the mafia and foreign drug traffickers. In exchange for support against foreign enemies, the groups were allowed to grow their drug trade in the United States. The series explores the unintended consequences of when gangsters, war lords, spies, outlaw entrepreneurs, street gangs and politicians vie for power and control of the global black market for narcotics all told through the firsthand accounts of former CIA and DEA officers, major drug traffickers, gang members, noted experts and insiders.Night one of Americas War on Drugs divulges covert Cold War operations that empowered a generation of drug traffickers and reveals the peculiar details of secret CIA LSD experiments which helped fuel the counter-culture movement, leading to President Nixons crackdown and declaration of a war on drugs. The documentary series then delves into the rise of the cocaine cowboys, a secret island cocaine base, the CIAs connection to the crack epidemic, the history of the cartels and their murderous tactics, the era of Just Say No, the negative effect of NAFTA, and the unlikely career of an almost famous Midwest meth queen. The final chapter of the series examines how the attacks on September 11th intertwined the War on Drugs and the War on Terror, transforming Afghanistan into a narco-state teeming with corruption. It also explores how American intervention in Mexico helped give rise to El Chapo and the Super Cartels, bringing unprecedented levels of violence and sending even more drugs across Americas borders. Five decades into the War on Drugs, a move to legalize marijuana gains momentum, mega-corporations have become richer and more powerful than any nations drug cartel, and continuing to rise is the demand for heroin and other illegal drugs.

Quietism and Activism | On the Mark

On Twitter I have many friends that I wish I could meet in real life and talk things over with for awhile. Some of them are the sort that refuses to deal with politics at all and want to withdraw their consent to be governed by the evil state in any peaceful manner than they can find to do. Others seem to want a revolution to bring down the evil central state and save the world from the U.S. Empire and its murderous military. I was reading a few tweets the other day and both kinds of friends were expressing their views when I thought of Raymond Smullyan and his little book that is a whimsical guide to the meaning and value of eastern philosophy to westerners.

I am a big fan of Raymond M. Smullyans book called The Tao is Silent and sometimes I think I like it even better than many of the Murray Rothbard books I have read. (high praise for Smullyan indeed) In one chapter of the book he wrote about the difference between the quietists and the activists.

Smullyan wrote:

There is one ethical philosophy which might be characterized as letting things go their own way, not interfering, not imposing ones will on nature, letting things happen of their own accord, not trying to reform the world, not trying to improve the world, but simply accepting things as they come. Such a philosophy is, I believe, called quietism. This philosophy is intensely irritating to many people called activists who believe this is the worse course possible and is in fact responsible for most of the evils in the world. They would say that the last thing we should do is to let things go their own way; if we do that, things will go terribly! It is up to us to prevent the bad things in the world from happening! I cannot think of any philosophy more irritating to some than quietism! Indeed, many will say that quietism is the perfect philosophy for the purely selfish individual who has everything he wants in life and to hell with the others!

In opposition to the activists, the quietist quietly points out (or sometimes actively points out) that the trouble with activism is that people who go forth trying to improve the world even those with the best intentions (at least on a conscious level!)usually bungle matters, and only succeed in making things even worse than they already are. The quietist reminds us, for example, that revolutions often establish even worse tyrannies than they overthrow.

It is not my function here to take sides in the quietism-activism controversy. I admit that my personal bias is towards the quietistsI trust them more than I do the activists. But I do not believe that most efforts to improve the world are bungling rather than helpful. Some are bungling, and some are helpful, and I do not have enough statistical data to decide which are preponderant. But, as I said, my sympathies lie more with the quietist.

The above was typed in by hand from my old dead tree book as I dont know how to copy anything from my Kindle e-book so any errors in transcription would be entirely mine. (If anyone out there wants to educate me on how to use my Kindly, my iPad, or my cloud reader to copy excerpts for my blog I sure would be thankful.)

Like Smullvan, I tend to side with the quietists and I often abhor the activists. But Stoval, I thought you were an activist! No, I try to educate people and am at most a rabble rouser. I am a Taoist and that may explain my total fascination for the American polymaths book. I think that everyone should read that little gem of philosophy.

I tend to think that we should speak out against the state and try to educate the masses on the nature of the state and why it is an evil institution that can not be useful to us. Voluntary cooperation is the only path that leads to mankind living in peace, prosperity, and harmony. In many ways, Voluntaryism is exactly what the ancient Taoists were advocating.

I find that I would be a total Quietist except that the state is attacking me at all times by its very existence. So, I am activist enough to want to find a way to end the aggression against me. That means I am in the middle someplace but far, far closer to a quietist than an activist.

Ethereum Price Forecast: Why ETH Could Surge from Now till June

Ethereum News Update
Scaling questions abound for Bitcoin and Ethereum, but at least Ethereum is well on its way to a solution. And no, I don’t mean "Raiden."

As the most famous of Ethereum’s potential saviors, Raiden could still end up declogging the Ethereum network, but it will have to outrace a new entrant called the “Liquidity.Network.” (Source: "Ethereum's Raiden Network Has New Scaling Competiton," CoinDesk, March 4, 2018.)

In other words, Raiden has competition.

Although both companies are using similar concepts—adding a “shell” over the.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: Regulations Are a Blessing in Disguise for Bitcoin

Daily Bitcoin News Update
Following in the footsteps of its northern neighbor, Mexico is crafting regulations for cryptocurrencies. The Mexican Congress passed a bill four days ago, which now awaits the president’s final signature to go into effect. With this, Mexico joins the growing list of countries undertaking crypto regulations—a trend that, we believe, plays in favor of Bitcoin rather than against it.

Let me explain.

Exchange hacks and cryptocurrency heists have seen an unprecedented rise in the recent months, and as hundreds of millions get lost in these digital robberies, investors are turning wary of crypto investing.

Productive regulations may pave the way.

Satanism | Hollywood Subliminals

Satanism is a broad term referring to a group of Western religions comprising diverse ideological and philosophical beliefs. Their shared features include symbolic association with, or admiration for the character of, Satan, or similar rebellious, promethean, and, in their view, liberating figures.

Particularly after the European Enlightenment, some works, such as Paradise Lost, were taken up by Romantics and described as presenting the biblical Satan as an allegory representing a crisis of faith, individualism, free will, wisdom and enlightenment. Those works actually featuring Satan as a heroic character are fewer in number, but do exist; George Bernard Shaw, and Mark Twain (cf. Letters from the Earth) included such characterizations in their works long before religious Satanists took up the pen. From then on, Satan and Satanism started to gain a new meaning outside of Christianity.

Although the public practice of Satanism began in 1966 with the founding of the atheistic Church of Satan, some historical precedents exist: a group called the Ophite Cultus Satanas was founded in Ohio by Herbert Arthur Sloane in 1948. Inspired by Gnosticism and Gerald Gardners Wicca, the coven venerated Satan as both a horned god and ophite messiah.

Satanist groups that appeared after the 1960s are widely diverse, but two major trends are Theistic Satanism and Atheistic Satanism. Theistic Satanists venerate Satan as a supernatural deity. In contrast, Atheistic Satanists consider themselves atheists, agnostics, ignostics or apatheists and regard Satan as merely symbolic of certain human traits. This categorization of Satanism (which could be categorized in other ways, for example Traditional versus Modern), is not necessarily adopted by Satanists themselves, who usually do not specify which type of Satanism they adhere to. Some Satanists believe in a god in the sense of a Prime Mover but, like Atheistic Satanists, do not worship it, due to the deist belief that a god plays no part in mortal lives.

Satan in Paradise Lost, as illustrated by Gustave Dor

Despite heavy criticism from other religious groups, there are signs that Satanistic beliefs have become more socially tolerated. Satanism is now allowed in the Royal Navy of the British Armed Forces, despite much opposition from Christians, and, in 2005, the Supreme Court of the United States debated over protecting the religious rights of prison inmates after a lawsuit challenging the issue was filed to them.

Contemporary Satanism is mainly an American phenomenon, the ideas spreading with the effects of globalization and the Internet. The Internet promotes awareness of other Satanists, and is also the main battleground for the definitions of Satanism today. Satanism started to reach Eastern Europe in the 1990s, in time with the fall of the Soviet Union, and most noticeably in Poland and Lithuania, predominantly Roman Catholic countries.

Satanism developed in the context of the Christian faith, as an ideological backlash to certain tenets promoted in Christianity. The character of Satan revered by Satanists, therefore, is mainly regarded as the prototypical anti-Christian figure. There have been some Satanists, however, who have shown reverence for the similar, albeit differently-characterized Islamic concept of Satan (Arabic: Shayn), also known as Iblis (Arabic: Ibls) although this is much more uncommon as Satanist philosophy has primarily flourished in the Occident, and has likely not reached any Muslim-majority countries. As he is an antagonist in all of the major Abrahamic traditions, Satan is also mentioned in certain Jewish literature, although he is treated more as a nuisance than the primary enemy of God in Judaism.

The Temple of Set is an initiatory occult society claiming to be the worlds leading left-hand path religious organization. It was established in 1975 by Michael A. Aquino and certain members of the priesthood of the Church of Satan, who left because of administrative and philosophical disagreements. ToS deliberately self-differentiates from CoS in several ways, most significantly in theology and sociology. The philosophy of the Temple of Set may be summed up as enlightened individualism enhancement and improvement of oneself by personal education, experiment and initiation. This process is necessarily different and distinctive for each individual. The members do not all have the same view on whether Set is real or not, and theyre not expected to.

Setianism, in theory, is similar to theistic Satanism. The principle deity of Setianism is the ancient Egyptian god Set, or Seth, the god of adversary. Set supposedly is the Dark Lord behind the Hebrew entity Satan. Set, as the first principle of consciousness, is emulated by Setians, who symbolize the concept of individual, subjective intelligence distinct from the natural order as the Black Flame. (Some people who are not members of the Temple of Set find spiritual inspiration in the Egyptian god Set, and may share some beliefs with the organization. The belief system in general is referred to as Setianism.)

Members of the Temple of Set are mostly male, between the ages of twenty and fifty.

The Temple of Set is an occultist organization following the left-hand path. Setians practice a religious philosophy of Self Initiation that involves the progressive refinement and improvement of themselves through the theoretical study and practical application of the Black Arts. This philosophy is summarized in the Word Xeper, which is Egyptian and means I have come into being.

The Temple of Set was reconsecrated in 1975, by Dr. Michael A. Aquino, in a Working of Greater Black Magic

that resulted in what believers regard as an inspired text titled The Book of Coming Forth by Night. This Working became necessary when many Satanists, along with the majority of the Priesthood of the Church of Satan, left that organization because of administrative and philosophical disagreements with its founder. The Temple of Set was incorporated in California that same year as a nonprofit church.

The Temple of Set is an occult initiatory school in which varying degrees of expertise, experience, and apprehension of metaphysics are recognized among members.

The Temple of Set holds an annual conclave where members of the Temple can come together to meet and exchange ideas. Workshops are held in which members discuss a wide variety of topics and activities. The conclave usually lasts about a week and is held in various global locations, though it usually takes place within the USA. There are also occasional regional gatherings, organized and attended by interested Setians, at their own initiative.

In addition to the international organization, the Temple sponsors initiatory Orders and local groups called Pylons. Pylons generally explore a wide range of metaphysical topics and exercises, since their members are determined largely by the accident of residence. Order members share specific interests, and Order activities therefore focus more deeply on these selected interests.

The Temple also makes available to members a variety of informational resources for individual reference as desired. The central of these resources is the Jewelled Tablets of Set which contain information relevant to the Degrees of the Organization. The very core of their teaching can be found within the material provided to the I* of the Temple, The Crystal Tablet of Set. All further volume in the series are built upon this documents foundation.

The Temple adheres to selective membership policies; fewer than half of all applicants are accepted for membership with the two year recognition period. The Temples membership does have a fairly large turnover rate; most members leave eventually for a wide variety of reasons. Only a minority of members remain with the Temple more than a decade. Members pay a membership fee. The Temple admits members on all continents except Antarctica, though it is largely a U.S.-based organization.

All officers and workers within the Temple of Set are volunteers. Some receive reimbursement for expenses incurred for the Temple; none receive a salary. All officers are selected from within the Priesthood.

The philosophy of the Temple of Set may be summed up as enlightened individualism: enhancement and improvement of oneself by personal education, experiment, and initiation. This process, necessarily different and distinctive for each individual, is referred to within the Temple by the Egyptian hieroglyphic term Kheper, or Xeper (a phonetic of _Xpr_), as the Temple of Set prefers to write it. Xeper is symbolized by the scarab beetle, significant of personal rebirth and immortality within the Temple of Set. The term is deemed central to Setian philosophy and practice, having been introduced at the founding of the Temple of Set in 1975, when Aquino made the claim that the Egyptian god Set communicated the word Xeper in the sense of become to him during the North Solstice X Working aka The Santa Barbara Working. The Word was re-uttered in 1996 by Don Webb in the more focused translation I have come into being.

Setians recognize several levels or degrees of initiation, and identify their members by their degree. These degrees are:

The Priesthood of the Temple of Set is restricted to members holding the Third Degree or higher. Full membership comes about on recognition to the second degree, which has a time frame of around two years. Recognition is performed by members of the priesthood, though it is up to the individual to find a priest to work with towards this end. However, there is no set criteria for recognition and no obligation for the priesthood to work with new initiates towards recognition.

Theistic Satanism, sometimes referred to as Traditional Satanism, or Spiritual Satanism, is a form of Satanism with the primary belief that Satan is an actual deity or force to revere or worship. Other characteristics of Theistic Satanism may include a belief in magic, which is manipulated through ritual. Unlike LaVeyan Satanism founded by Anton LaVey in the 1960s, Theistic Satanism is theistic as opposed to atheistic, believing that Satan (Hebrew: ha-Satan, the accuser) is a real being rather than a symbol of individualism.

The history of Theistic Satanism, and assessments of its existence and prevalence in history, is obscured by it having been grounds for execution at some times in the past, and due to people having been accused of it who did not consider themselves to worship Satan, such as in the witch trials in Early Modern Europe. Most of Theistic Satanism exists in relatively new models and ideologies, and many claiming to not be involved with Christianity at all.

Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith represents SET (or Seth) the Ancient Egyptian God of Evil and Darkness. The original ancient archetype who Satan was modeled off in Christian Mythology Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)

The worship of Satan was a frequent charge against those charged in the witch trials in Early Modern Europe and other witch-hunts such as the Salem witch trials. Worship of Satan was claimed to take place at the witches sabbat. The charge of Satan worship has also been made against groups or individuals regarded with suspicion, such as the Knights Templar, or minority religions. It is not known to what extent accusations of groups worshiping Satan in the time of the witch trials identified people who did consider themselves Satanists, rather than being the result of religious superstition or mass hysteria, or charges made against individuals suffering from mental illness. Confessions are unreliable, particularly as they were usually obtained under torture. However, noted scholar Jeffrey Burton Russell, Professor Emeritus of the University of California at Santa Barbara, has made extensive arguments in his book Witchcraft in the Middle Ages that not all witch trial records can be dismissed and that there is in fact evidence linking witchcraft to gnostic heresies. Russell comes to this conclusion after having studied the source documents themselves. Individuals involved in the poison affair were accused of Satanism and witchcraft.

Some members of Ordo Flammeus Serpens (OFS), a group that venerates demons, say that they were trained by a traditional family sect, or are generational demonolaters whose religion has been passed down through the family. Claims such as these are unproven. Tani Jantsang of Satanic Reds refers to herself as a generational Satanist, but what she means by that is that her family would have been labelled Satanic by Christianity, although they are in fact non-Islamic Turko-Tatar. Theistic Satanists are inspired by incidences they see as evidence of previous followers of their faith. The concept of Satan may incorporate elements from older religions than Judaism. Ha-satan is the role of one of Yahwehs court, whose duties include testing the faith of humanity; the concept may be derived from a judicial function in Israeli court, similar to a prosecuting attorney. The Jewish Encyclopedia says that parts of the Old Testament where Satan is seen to act independently of God may have been influenced by Zoroastrianism; however, the same article states that The Angelology of the Talmud, moreover, proves that, according to the older view (until about 200 C.E.), punishment was inflicted by angels and not by Satan. In the course of time, however, official Judaism, beginning perhaps with Johanan (d. 279), absorbed the popular concepts of Satan, which doubtless forced their way gradually from the lower classes to the most cultured. and that according to later Talmudic tradition about Satan He is the incarnation of all evil, and his thoughts and activities are devoted to the destruction of man; so that Satan, the impulse to evil (yeer ha-ra), and the angel of death are one and the same personality. He descends from heaven and leads astray, then ascends and brings accusations against mankind. Historically, Satanist was a pejorative term for those with opinions that differed from predominant religious or moral beliefs. Paul Tuitean believes the idea of acts of reverse Christianity was created by the Inquisition, but George Battaille believes that inversions of Christian rituals such as the Mass may have existed prior to the descriptions of them which were obtained through the witchcraft trials.

In the 18th century various kinds of popular Satanic literature began to be produced in France, including some well-known grimoires with instructions for making a pact with the Devil. The Marquis de Sade describes defiling crucifixes and other holy objects, and in Justine gives a fictional account of the Black Mass, although Ronald Hayman has said Sades need for blasphemy was an emotional reaction and rebellion from which Sade moved on, seeking to develop a more reasoned atheistic philosophy. In the 19th century, Eliphas Levi published his French books of the occult, and in 1855 produced his well-known drawing of the Baphomet which continues to be used by some Satanists today (for example the sigil of Baphomet). Finally, in 1891, Joris-Karl Huysmans published his Satanic novel, L-Bas, which included a detailed description of a Black Mass which he may have known first-hand was being performed in Paris at the time, or the account may have been based on the masses carried out by tienne Guibourg, rather than by Huysmans attending himself. Quotations from Huysmans Black Mass are also used in some Satanic rituals to this day since it is one of the few sources that purports to describe the words used in a Black Mass. The type of Satanism described in L-Bas suggests that prayers are said to the Devil, hosts are stolen from the Catholic Church, and sexual acts are combined with Roman Catholic altar objects and rituals, to produce a variety of Satanism which exalts the Devil and degrades the God of Christianity by inverting Roman Catholic rites. George Bataille claims that Huysmans description of the Black Mass is indisputably authentic. Not all Theistic Satanists today routinely perform the Black Mass, possibly because the mass is not a part of modern evangelical Christianity in Protestant countries and so not such an unintentional influence on Satanist practices in those countries.

Michael Aquino published a rare 1970 text of a Church of Satan black mass, the Missa Solemnis, in his book The Church of Satan, and Anton LaVey included a different Church of Satan black mass, the Messe Noire, in his 1972 book The Satanic Rituals. LaVeys books on Satanism, which began in the 1960s, were for a long time the few available which advertised themselves as being Satanic, although others detailed the history of witchcraft and Satanism, such as The Black Arts by Richard Cavendish published in 1967 and the classic French work Satanism and Witchcraft, by Jules Michelet. Anton LaVey specifically denounced devil worshippers and the idea of praying to Satan.

Seeking knowledge is seen by some Theistic Satanists as important to Satan, due to his being equated with the Serpent in Genesis encouraging mankind to partake of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Some perceive Satan as Baphomet, a hermaphroditic bestower of knowledge (gnosis). Satanic groups, such as Luciferians, also seek to gain greater gnosis; these Satanists view Yahweh as the demiurge and Satan as the transcendent being beyond.

Self-development is important to Theistic Satanists. This is due to the Satanists view of Satan, who is seen to encourage individuality and freedom of thought, and the quest to raise ones self up despite resistance, through means such as magic and initiative. They believe Satan wants a more equal relationship with his followers than the Christian God does with his. From a Theistic Satanist perspective, Christianity does not define good or evil in terms of benefit or harm to humanity, but rather on the submission to or rebellion against God. Some Satanists seek to remove any means by which they are controlled or repressed by others and follow the herd, and reject non-governmental authoritarianism.

As Satan in the Old Testament tests people, theistic Satanists may believe that Satan sends them tests in life in order to develop them as an individual. They value taking responsibility for oneself. Despite the emphasis on self-development, Theistic Satanists often feel that there is a will of Satan for the world and for their own lives. They may promise to help bring about the will of Satan, and seek to gain insight about it through prayer, study or magic. In the temptation of Christ in the desert, Satan shows Jesus all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me (Matthew 4:8f). Satan is known in the Bible as the prince of this world, and Satanists may feel that he can help them meet their needs and desires if they pray or work magic. They would also have to do what they could in everyday life to achieve their goals, however.

Theistic Satanists may try not to project an image that reflects negatively on their religion as a whole and reinforces stereotypes, such as promoting Nazism found in a few groups, abuse or crime. However, some groups, such as the Order of Nine Angles, criticise the emphasis on promoting a good image for Satanism; the ONA described LaVeyan Satanism as weak, deluded and American form of sham-Satanic groups, the poseurs, and ONA member Stephen Brown claimed that the Temple of Set seems intent only on creating a good public impression, with promoting an image. The order emphasises that its way is and is meant to be dangerous and [g]enuine Satanists are dangerous people to know; associating with them is a risk. In particular, there is argument over animal sacrifice, with most groups seeing it as both unnecessary and putting Satanism in a bad light, and distancing themselves from the few groups that practice it.

Some groups like the Misanthropic Luciferian Order have criticized both the Church of Satan and the Temple of Set as trying to make Setianism and the ruler of darkness, Set, into something accepted and harmless, this way attempting to become a big religion, accepted and acknowledged by the rest of the Judaeo-Christian society. The order rejects Christianity, Judaism and Islam as the opposite of everything that strengthens the spirit and is only good for killing what little that is beautiful, noble and honourable in this filthy world.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is ‘More Ambitious’ Than Witcher 3, CD Projekt …

By Hope Corrigan

CD Projekt Red says its upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 RPG to be more ambitious than The Witcher 3.

PC Gamer reports CD Projekt Red briefly discussed Cyberpunk 2077, comparing it to the company's critically acclaimed RPG from 2015 The Witcher 3, in a video during Pareto SecuritiesGaming Seminar.

"Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious," CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski said. "Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning. We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it's very appealing to players, not only RPG players but this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences. It's handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay."

"Great game, more ambitious than Witcher 3, and we believe that we can aim [at] more ambitious business goals as well of course, still having gamer-centric focus and quality focus as a main priority," he explained.

While huge in scope, these claims aren't too surprising given more developers have been working on Cyberpunk 2077 than there were on The Witcher 3 in it's most intensive month.

At the seminar, he also shot down anyhopes for a Witcher 4, a sentiment CD Projekt has expressed before.

"We can't create Witcher 4, because that was a trilogy from the beginning," he said. "No one said that one day we won't decide to develop something in the Witcher universe. But now we're focusing on Cyberpunk and Gwent."

Speaking of Gwent, Kicinskitouched on the success of the Witcher 3 digital card game spinoff Gwent and sales on the GOG platform.

"Recently, in the first half of 2017, we enjoyed a really huge increase of our own internal sales via GOG distribution channel," Kicinski said. "A big part of that was coming from the Gwent project."

Cyberpunk 2077 prepares fans for a blockbuster franchise …

Fans of CD Projekt Red and its games are no doubt starving for any morsel of information about the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. And while the studio has yet to truly reveal the game and its plans for it, CD Projekt Red did address it at a recent gaming seminar, giving listeners an outline of this ambitious title and confirming that it will be available through both GOG and Steam.

Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning, the studio said. We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe its very appealing to players, not only RPG playersbut this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences. Its handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay.

Even for how little we know about this game (including its alleged multiplayer capacity), Cyberpunk 2077 is an incredibly hot property these days. Dragon Age Game Director Mike Laidlaw said in an interview that he would join the development team in a heartbeat if given the chance: Cyberpunk would certainly pull me in for the most part. Moving to Poland and moving my family, and that kind of stuff, would be exceptionally challenging but cyberpunks always had a draw.

Developer promises Cyberpunk 2077 is ‘more ambitious’ than …

According to Kicinski, the developer wants to build a new blockbuster franchise, and called it a "true RPG". Read on to learn more about Cyberpunk 2077 and what we know so far about this upcoming release.

"Great game, more ambitious than Witcher 3", he said.

After blowing up to such a staggering degree, it's no surprise to hear CD Projeckt Red talk about ambition for Cyberpunk 2077. Due to a decision made by the studio's management, the staff originally designated to work on the futuristic title were reassigned to work on the in-house REDengine 3 alongside the third installment of the Witcher series.

It was the first activity on the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account in four years. Considering how much time CD Projekt Red has sunk into this project, I've got a good feeling that the end result is going to help establish the studio as a powerhouse for any genre that passes through their development team. Then Kicinski has some bad news for you.

People are not impressed with the new Samsung GalaxySamsung has always been a dominant player in the mobile market of India and China and continues to rule for upcoming decades. Videos can also be captured in super-slow-motion video at 960 frames per second and have an 8MP front-facing camera .

This is one of the rare games that will be true-to-form to the role-playing format. "For the most part, moving to Poland and moving my family, and that kind of stuff, would be exceptionally challenging but Cyberpunk's always had a draw". We learned about Cyberpunk 2077 coming to Steam from the developer of the game, and they are doing this so that they do not alienate some of their fans.

One thing about CD Projekt Red is that it is now becoming a more popular company.

During a presentation at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar last week, CD Projekt Red's Adam Kicinski had the following to say: "Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious. It's handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay", he said.

Six years after the initial announcement, we still don't have a release date, no full trailer, and no real details other than knowing what it is based on and the small tid-bits left here and there.

Cyberpunk 2077 More Ambitious than The Witcher 3

CD Projekt Red developed a historically great title in The Witcher 3. However, their next outing is one that they are hoping will top its predecessor. The studio has said that their next project, Cyberpunk 2077, is even more ambitious than what they strived for in the past.

CEO of CD Projekt Red, Adam Kicinski, spoke recently at the Securities Gaming Seminar. During his discussion, he stated multiple times that his team plans to develop CD Projekt Red into a blockbuster franchise, just as they did for The Witcher:

Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious. Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning. We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe its very appealing to players, not only RPG players but this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences. Its handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay.

Kicinski continued, doubling down on the more ambitious plans for Cyberpunk 2077:

Great game, more ambitious than Witcher 3, and we believe that we can aim [at] more ambitious business goals as well of course, still having gamer-centric focus and quality focus as a main priority.

This makes sense, as reports came in early in the games development that stated Cyberpunk 2077 had more staff dedicated to it than The Witcher 3 ever did.

News wasnt completely uplifting at the event though. Later in his conversation, CD Projekt Reds CEO confirmed the prior news that there will never be The Witcher 4:

We cant create Witcher 4, because that was a trilogy from the beginning. No one said that one day we wont decide to develop something in the Witcher universe. But now were focusing on Cyberpunk and Gwent.

Cyberpunk 2077 was initially unveiled back in May of 2012. So the game has been in some form of development for over six years. With CD Projekt Red working full steam ahead, lets hope well be visiting Night City at some point soon.

CD Project Red have confirmed that their next major project, Cyberpunk 2077, will be coming to Steam. In a presentation given at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar, the studios CEO Adam Kiciski confirmed that the game would not be exclusive to GOG.

Here's everything we know about Cyberpunk 2077.

Its not exactly surprising that the game is coming to Steam as well as CDPRs own GOG, as The Witcher 3 and all of its DLC were available on both platforms, and it would be a surprise if they changed tack so abruptly. That said, Microsofts recent decision to make Age of Empires: Definitive Edition exclusive to the Windows Store at launch might mean Kiciski thought it better to clarfiy.

Kiciski also says that Cyberpunk is even more ambitious than the teams previous RPG, describing it as the new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious, and stating that its a true RPG, that will take place in a hand-crafted, detailed open-world with open-ended gameplay. A project that grand obviously needs a lot of staff behind it, which is exactly what CD Projekt Red have - Kiciski confirmed that the team includes over 300 staff, three times more than are working on Gwent.

Kiciski wouldnt say when the company would start actively showing Cyberpunk off. When asked when wed get a look at the game, he answered simply the campaign will start one day, and you will see it. Rumours circulated last month that CyberPunk 2077 will be playable at this years E3, but CDPR are yet to lend any credence to that idea.

You can watch Kiciskis section of the seminar in the video above, beginning at the 3:34:04 mark.

Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be "More Ambitious Than Witcher 3"

How thirsty are we for a Cyberpunk 2077 release date? Or any scrap of news? If you remember Januarys famous *beep* tweet, you know the answer is VERY thirsty. Want more proof? Now a 90-second clip from a soporific financial lecture is making headlines and hyping up fans. As first reported by PC Gamer, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski told the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar that (hold on to your butts here) he thinks Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be good and big and good at being big.

"Great game, more ambitious than Witcher 3, he said. And we believe that we can aim at more ambitious business goals as well [while] still having gamer-centric focus and quality focus as a main priority.

Trending: Hearthstone Hall Of Fame 2018: Year Of The Raven Edition

He explained the Cyberpunk 2077 team is 3 times larger than the team working on CD Projekts most recent release, Gwent, a CCG based on the popular minigame in The Witcher 3 . Kicinski thinks the Cyberpunk 2077 will be the new Witcher 3, which is exactly what fans are hoping for and god help him if it disappoints. But he told the PSGS it will be a true RPG aimed at capturing some of the non-RPG player audience.

The slide heard round the world. CD Projekt

"Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning. A new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it's very appealing to players, not only RPG players, he said. It's handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay.

This all sounds good, but the big question is when is the Cyberpunk 2077 release date? The best info to date is a report that surfaced on neoGAF, which has some production details as part of a disclosure relating to an investment from the Polish government (the thirrrssssttttt) that puts an end date of June 2019 on the project. Its unclear if that is a hard stop, as CD Projekt can file an extension. Still, it seems a fair bet that if we dont get Cyberpunk 2077 next year, we will likely get an update on a release. Or another scintillating financial document to pour through.

Finally, Kicinski told the crowd that there would not in fact be a Witcher 4, as the series was conceived as a trilogy, but left open the possibility of returning to the world itself.

"No one said that one day we won't decide to develop something in the Witcher universe. But now we're focusing on Cyberpunk and Gwent," he said.

Regenerative Nanomedicine Lab

Our recent research article "In-vitro Topographical Model of Fuchs Dystrophy for Evaluation of Corneal Endothelial Cell Monolayer Formation" appeared on theBack cover of Advanced Healthcare Materials latest issue.

Several diseases have been known to be caused by microstructural changes in the extracellular microenvironment. Therefore, the knowledge of the interaction of cells with the altered extracellular micro-structures or surface topography is critical to develop a better understanding of the disease for therapeutic development. One such disease is Fuchs corneal endothelial dystrophy (FED). FED is the primary disease and major reason of corneal endothelial cell death. If left untreated, corneal blindness will be resulted; thus, FED is the leading indication for corneal transplantation. In the USA, 4% of population over the age of 40 is believed to have compromised corneal endothelium due to FED, which will further increase due to increasing life expectancy and rapidly ageing population. A diagnostic clinical hallmark of FED is the development of discrete pillar or dome-like microstructures on the corneal endothelial basement membrane (Descemet membrane). These microstructures are called corneal guttata or guttae. Cell therapies have been proposed as an alternative treatment method for Fuchs dystrophy patients. However, currently, no in-vitro or in-vivo FED disease model is available to study the cell therapies before clinical trials.

In this study, the pathological changes in the micro-structure of basement membranes resulting from FED disease was analyzed, to identify geometrical dimension to develop an in-vitro disease model of synthetic corneal guttata pillars/domes by using microfabrication techniques. This model was used to study the monolayer formation of donor-derived human corneal endothelial cells to test the effectiveness of the corneal endothelial cell regenerative therapies. The results suggest that the corneal cell therapies may not be equally effective for patients at different stages of disease progression. The pre-existing guttata in patients could interfere with the cells thus hampering monolayer formation within the eye. Surgical removal of the guttata from the diseased Descemet membrane prior to cell regenerative therapy could increase the success rate of monolayer formation, which could potentially increase the chances of cell therapy success. This study also demonstrate how biomaterial design can be employed to mimic the pathological microstructural changes in basement membranes for better understanding of cellular responses in disease conditions.

Abraham Lincoln on Freedom, Wage labour and Slavery

The liberal tradition is employed by the left and the right to justify their positions concerning contemporary capitalist society. An issue often raised concerns US slavery, whether it made life better for slaves, whether it was better or worse than wage slavery in the north. While weve all heard Noam Chomsky talk about this, its probably a good idea to look for other sources on what 19th century liberals actually thought about freedom. Micheal Sandel has written about Lincolns conception of freedom and how it relates to wage labour and slavery in a book called Democracys Discontent: America in a search for Public Policy. The following quotations are taken from a chapter called Free Labour versus Wage Labour:

Although he shared the abolitionist moral condemnation of slavery, Lincoln did not share their voluntarist conception of freedom. Lincolns main argument against the expansion of slavery rested on the free labour ideal, and unlike the abolitionists, he did not equate free labour with wage labour. The superiority of free labour to slave labour did not consist in the fact that free labourers consent to exchange their work for a wage whereas slaves do not consent. The differences was rather that the northern wage labourer could hope one day to escape from his condition, whereas the slave could not. It was not consent that distinguished free labour from slavery, but rather the prospect of independence, the chance to rise to own productive property and to work for oneself. According to Lincolm, it was this feature of the free labour system that the southern critics of wage labour overlooked: They insist that their slaves are far better off than Northern freemen. What a mistaken view do these men have of Northern labourers! They think that men are always to remain labourers here but there is no such class. The man who laboured for another last year, this year labours for himself. And next year he will hire others to labour for him. (181)

Lincoln did not challenge the notion that those who spend their entire lives as wage labourers are comparable to slaves. He held that both forms of work wrongly subordinate labour to capital. Those who debated whether it is best that capital shall hire labourers, and thus induce them to work by their own consent, or buy them, and drive them ot it without consent, considered too narrow a range of possibilities. Free labour is labour carried out under conditions of independence from employers and masters alike. Lincolm insisted that, at least in the North, most Americans were independent in this sense: Men, with their families wives, sons and daughters work for themselves, on their farms, in their houses and in their shops, taking the whole product to themselves, and asking no favours of capital on the one hand, nor of hirelings or slaves on the other.

In Lincolns hands, the conception of freedom deriving from the artisan republican tradition became the rallying point for the northern cause in the Civil War. In the 1830s and 1840s, labour leaders had invoked this conception in criticizing northern society; wage labour, they feared, was supplanting free labour. In the late 1850s, Lincoln and the Republicans invoked the same conception in defending northern society; they superiority of the North to the slaveholding South consisted in the independence the free labour system made possible. (183)

The Union victory in the Civil War put to rest the threat of free labour posed by the slave power, only to revive and intensify the threat posed by the wage system and industrial capitalism. Lincoln had led the North to war in the name of free labour and the small, independent producer, but the war itself accelerated the growth of capitalist enterprise and factory production. (183)

In 1869 the New York Times reported on the decline of the free labour system and the advance of wage labour. Small workshops had become far less common than they were before the war, and the small manufactures thus swallowed up have become workmen on wages in the greater establishments, whose larger purses, labour-saving machines, etc., refused to allow the small manufacturers a separate existence. THe article criticized the trend it described in terms reminiscent of the labour movement of the 1830s and 1840s. THe fall of the independent mechanic to wage earner status amounted to a system of slavery as absolute if not as degrading as that which lately prevailed in the South.

The 1870 census, the first to record detailed information about Americans occupations, confirmed what many workers already knew. Not withstanding a free labour ideology that tied liberty to ownership of productive property, American had become a nation of employees. (183)

Offshore Banking in 2017 Where, How & Why | Sovereign Man

2. Offshore Banking in Singapore

When Singapore gained independence half a century ago, it was a backwater with no natural resources.

Today, it is one of the leading financial centers in the world.

Considering Singapores foreign reserves and sovereign wealth fund, the countrys financial position is exceptional, with net assets well over 100% of GDP.

In short, there is no chance Singapore is going broke any time soon.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is also solvent, and over the past few decades has proven to be a wise financial regulator.

Thats why Singapore has never had a banking failure in its history, ever.

And while past performance is no guarantee of future results, the entire banking system continues to maintain conservative levels of capitalization and liquiditycertainly much more than banks in the West.

It remains an oasis of financial stability. Its banks are well supervised and well regulated.

We wouldnt hesitate opening an offshore bank account in Singapore.

That being said, in the past you could open an excellent bank account in Singapore without even leaving home, but it has gotten much harder over the past few years.

Nowadays you will have to visit the island state in person andmany banks require substantial minimum deposits now.

First, lets get the elephant out of the room.

Unless youve been living under a rock, you are without a doubt aware of the Panama Papers scandal.

Thanks to that, Panama is suffering from an image problem.

Yes, theres a long list of politicians and crooks who used the services of the Mossack Fonseca law firm to hide income or immorally acquired funds.

But most of the Panama Papers uproar is just ballyhooing by people who dont understand (or dont want to understand) how offshore works... or why its so essential to the global economy.

Panama is a 100% dollarized economy and you will be dealing with US dollars as a depositor there.

On top of that Panama is just a short flight away from North America, so the physical presence requirement can be easily met if you reside in the States.

We have spent weeks crunching the numbers and visiting multiple banks in the country, and we can tell you that Panamas banking sector regardless of what ill-informed, financially illiterate journalists report is on solid footing.

Panamanian banks are liquid and well capitalized. Additionally, the governments debt position of 39.1% is pretty manageable.

Here at Sovereign Man we focus on providing objective, rational advice. Here it is:

The Panama Papers scandal should not deter you from considering banking in Panama if that is a jurisdiction that works for you.

On top of that Panama is the easiest place in the world to establish a second residency, which means you can knock out two major Plan B needs with just one visit.

A tiny German-speaking principality sandwiched between Switzerland and Austria, Liechtenstein, like its Swiss neighbor, has perfected the art of banking.

Liechtenstein has long been known as one of the top asset protection and private banking jurisdictions in the world.

The country is in compliance with all major directives and treaties for anti-money laundering and tax regulation initiatives, and it is rightly seen today as a well-regulated, blue-chip, offshore (technically onshore) destination.

Liechtenstein does not bother providing transactional banking to non-residents and focuses instead on high-end services (and does them extremely well).

If you are looking for a private bank, rather than a transactional bank account, we think Liechtenstein should be on your radar.

Not a single bank in Liechtenstein needed ANY assistance from the state during the global financial crisis. The countrys banks are generally conservative and well run.

Unfortunately, only a few of Liechtensteins banks have gone through the trouble and expense of setting up entities licensed as investment advisors with the SEC. Those few are the only ones able to take US persons as clients.

Self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto sued for swindling $5 …

Craig Wright, the man who claimed to be the inventor of bitcoin, has been sued for stealing $5 billion worth of cryptocurrency from his business partner.

Wright, who claimed in 2016 that he had created bitcoin under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, has allegedly participated in a joint bitcoin-mining venture with the now-deceased IT consultant, Dave Kleiman.

The lawsuit is being brought by Kleimans brother (Ira Kleiman), who accused Wright of using phony contracts and signatures to lay claim to bitcoins mined by Dave.

Craig forged a series of contracts that purported to transfer Dave's assets to Craig and/or companies controlled by him. Craig backdated these contracts and forged Dave's signature on them, Ira Kleiman said, according to the complaint.

The plaintiffs seek the return of the bitcoins, which would now be worth over $10 billion. The lawsuit said the uncertain state of those bitcoins was related to Wrights well-publicized tax issues, which caused his home to be raided by Australian police.

In an email exchange quoted in the complaint, Wright admitted to holding 300,000 bitcoin on Kleimans behalf. [Dave] mentioned that you had one million bitcoins in the trust and since you said he has 300,000 as his part. I was figuring the other 700,000 is yours, Ira Kleiman wrote shortly after his brothers death in 2013. Is that correct?

Around that, Wright replied, adding Minus what was needed for the companys use.

Ira Kleiman is also seeking compensation for the intellectual property his lawyers claim arose from the partnership between his deceased brother and Wright. [The] plaintiff demands judgment against [the] defendant for the value of the wrongfully retained bitcoin and IP, together with court costs, interest, and any other relief this court deems just and proper, said the complaint.
