MWA antennas the beauty of the Murchison Shire, Western Australia
The Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) is the official low-frequency precursor instrument to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and is located in the radio-quiet Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO) in Western Australia. It consists of 128 antenna tiles that cover an area of approximately 1.5 square kilometres and yield an impressive field of view of approximately 40. http://www.facebook.com The MWA will be a key instrument in detecting faint radio signals from the very early Universe, an era shortly after the Big Bang when cool atomic hydrogen gas was heated and ionised by the first light-emitting objects in the Universe: the Epoch of Reionisation (EoR). http://www.caastro.org Footage collected between 22 and 29 October 2012.
