Greys Anatomy': Dr. Isaac Cross Has Diverticulitis, But What the Hell Is That?

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read on ifyou haventwatched Thursdaysepisode ofGreys Anatomy)

If you blinked in the midst of all the chaos of Dr. Maggie Pierces (Kelly McCreary) surgery, you might have missed Dr. Isaac Crosss (Joe Adler) dramatic diagnosis:Diverticulitis.

The surgical intern was being treated by Dr. Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) and to be honest, he came off as a little dramatic hypochondriac. Cross assumed he had symptoms that were much more serious than they actually were and demanded that all these expensive tests be run on him because he definitely had something.

At this point, Edwards was just plain annoyed by him but played along anyways because thats her job.

Well, turns out that the dramatic doctor did actually have something.Diverticulitis.

Except that diverticulitis isnt really that serious. According to the Mayo Clinic, its pretty common and there are more than 200,000 cases in the United States per year.

Sometimes small, protruding pouches called diverticula can form in the lining of your digestive system and dont really cause issues unless they become infected. Which is what happened to Cross and therefore caused diverticulitis, which causes nausea, abdominal pain and fever.

Unfortunately for Cross, though, thats not all he had. When Dr. Edwards and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) opened him up for surgery, they discovered that he also had abdominal tuberculosis.

Poor guy.
