Roundtable In US To Underscore Malaysia's Aerospace Prowess

NEW YORK: An aerospace roundtable tomorrow in Arlington, Virginia, in the United States, will underscore Malaysias prowess in the aerospace sector and highlight to participating local companies that they have a reliable partner in the country.

Organised by the New York office of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the roundtable will also highlight to potential US investors the trade and investment opportunities that Malaysia offers to them in the aerospace sector.

Arham Abdul Rahman, MIDA's New York Director, told Bernama that the roundtable will serve as a platform for an intense exchange of views on the aerospace sector between Malaysian and the US-based companies.

As Malaysias economy transits from a classical labour-intensive manufacturing to one of high-value services, it has become necessary for the country to highlight its potential as a supplier and provider of services in hitherto unconventional areas.

The aerospace industry is a key sector in which Malaysia can profile itself as a major supplier of services, including highly complex designs for the state-of-the-art aircraft, that are expected to arrive in the market in the future.

Indeed, experts say that the aerospace industry can be a "game changer" for Malaysias export thrust in a global economy that is being increasingly characterised, not only by fierce competition but also uncertainties and crises.

A Malaysian company, Strand Aerospace Sdn Bhd, based in Cyberjaya, has clinched a deal with a first-tier supplier to Airbus Industrie in Germany.

Strand has also made further inroads into Germanys aerospace market, and has strengthened its foothold in Europes aerospace market as well.

Naguib Mohd Nor, the companys COO, recently visited the United States and indicated his desire to recruit Malaysian professionals to work for Strand back home.

"I came to meet our latest client, VERIFY, based in Los Angeles, and to recruit professionals with the Talent Corporation of Malaysia. VERIFY is an established supplier to Boeing and wishes to work with Strand to extend the scope of their services to the aircraft manufacturer.
