GKN Aerospace opens engineering centre in Bangalore

Bangalore, Sept 25:

GKN Aerospace today officially announced the opening of its engineering centre here.

The company officials said the centres highly skilled engineering team, which extends companys one thousand strong global engineering strength, is already contributing design engineering expertise to the companys international aero-engine activities.

Stating that 70 highly qualified design and development engineers have been transferred from Volvos Bangalore facility to the new centre, GKN Aerospace VP Engineering Andrew Clarke said over the next eighteen months a local recruitment campaign will increase the work force in Bangalore to over 100 individuals.

We will not be parachuting foreign engineers, he added.

The company officials said Volvo Aerospace was acquired by GKN in 2012 and incorporated into companys aerospace business, GKN Aerospace. The aerospace engineering team with in the Volvos Bangalore office is now moving to form the core of GKN Aerospaces new Bangalore engineering centre.

Clarke said In the future the centre will extend to provide engineering support for projects across the GKN Aerospace enterprise, including its market leading aero-structures and transparencies operations.

Stating that the company is also considering aerospace sector related manufacturing unit in Bangalore, he said: We are currently in early negotiation with number of our Indian partners.
