Synthetic Vision prototype (x3)-- prevent accidents by giving pilots a clear electronic vision of the outside that is not dependent on weather conditions or time of day. 2nd clip includes animation and flight simulator. 3rd clip is interview with Michael Lewis, LaRC Aviation Safety Program Director on importance of synthetic vision. NASA Crashes Airplanes to Enhance Aviation Safety: NASA has crash tested aircraft for 25 years to help improve their safety. NASA research has led to safer seats, better restraint systems, and improved structural design for general aviation aircraft. Four clips cover Langley #39;s Impact Dynamics Research Facility is the only full-scale, pendulum swing crash test facility in the world. In a recent crash test, a Lear Fan composite aircraft was dropped more than 150 #39; after being equipped with six crash dummies and two dozen accelerometers that recorded conditions on impact. Test date was used not only to determine how well the special energy features performed, but also to help develop better structural designs. 4th in this set is an interview with aerospace engineer, Lisa Jones. AWIN Demonstration (x3): NASA Langley and industry are developing a worldwide system to bring a weather channel into the cockpit. 3rd sequence is an interview with airline pilot Dave Witchey. Storm Turbulence Doppler Radar Flight Test: NASA and industry partners #39; work to combat turbulence on-board detection and warning systems and ways to minimize turbulence effects.
