Tom French Metonymy 2

Tom French‘s series of skull paintings are beautiful compositions of the living into the ultimate symbol of death. They aren’t purely skulls and they aren’t purely figurative, which makes his work stand out in this skull focused gallery show. “French’s work often treads the fine line between the beautiful and unsettling, combining technically tight, classical charcoal drawings with carefree, loose and ostensibly unfinished abstract forms.

Born in 1982, Tom French grew up in Newcastle Upon Tyne, North East England. Tom began his studies at the Newcastle School of Art and Design and went on to graduate from the Sheffield Institute of Art and Design achieving a first class BA Honors in 2005.

We’re proud to have him in FACE OFF: Skull-A-Day vs Street Anatomy! Tom sent us his latest piece titled Cranio Anatomia which stands at an impressive 4 feet tall! Come see it in person at the Museum of Surgical Science next Friday, May 31st through August 25th!
