Liberty County officials discover small pot farm

Authorities discovered what appeared to be a marijuana-growing operation in a heavily-wooded area in Liberty County on Saturday morning.

Around 11:30 a.m., the Liberty County Sheriff's Office received a call from a man who told them he and several other people walking a property near County Road 2134 and FM 787 came across what looked like a marijuana-growing operation.

Deputies responded to the area and found the chains on the gates near the property cut. After walking farther into the woods, deputies found about 100 bulbs of marijuana in a plastic container, digging and clearing implements for planting crops, fertilizer, water and rapid-grow chemicals, authorities said.

Clothes, shoes and camping supplies were also found in the immediate area. Three small areas of ground had been cleared of timber and brush, in preparation for planting, and some of the plants had also begun to sprout, authorities said.

No suspects are known at this time.
