Former President George HW Bush was admitted to intensive care after setbacks to the treatment of bronchitis. Full Story: Former US President George HW Bush has been in the intensive care unit at a Houston hospital since Sunday evening, according to a spokesperson. The 88-year-old was admitted to Methodist Hospital on November 23 for bronchitis. Family spokesperson Jim McGrath sent a brief e-mail stating that Bush was admitted to the ICU for "a series of setbacks including persistent fever." He said that doctors are cautiously optimistic about the former president #39;s treatment. The oldest former US president, George HW Bush took office in 1989. Before that, he served as a naval aviator during World War II, at one point the youngest in the Navy. He also served as a congressman, Ambassador to the United Nations, envoy to China, CIA director, and two terms as vice president under Ronald Regan. In 2011, he was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
