"Sculpture Reproductive Technology: Peter Burke at TEDxBradfordonAvon"
Peter Burke examines the role of industrial reproductive technologies in relation to his sculptural practice as a way of reflecting on what it means to be human in our present technologically orientated world. He explores historical examples of three dimensional reproductive processes from the Bronze Age to present day and includes accounts of his working sculpturally in an aerospace factory, a metal reclamation yard, with globalised industry, with precision industrial foundries and with current digitally controlled engineering. Peter initially trained as a jig and tool designer with Rolls Royce Aerospace in Bristol, UK, before attending Art College. His work has been exhibited in Britain, Europe, United States, the Far East and has been acquired by the Contemporary Art Society UK and the Berardo Collection Lisbon. He has received a Pollock Krasner Award and the Diane Middlebrook Fellowship USA . His large scale public installations are at Woolwich Arsenal London, at the Cass Foundation Goodwood Uk and in Masan Korea. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
