My name is Ebonie Kairo Miles, and I am a local Philadelphia artist looking for folks that are willing to participate in an artistic and spiritual journey that will be created through personal narrative and photo documentation. This project has been a vision of mine for many years, and I am asking for your assistance in making this visual and audio oracle come to life. Ain #39;t I a Man, Ain #39;t I a Woman is a mixed media, photographic, and installation based exhibit that gives a detailed look into the multifaceted conceptions and formulations of the Transgender Body and identity through the experiential lenses of Trans People of Color who are masculine of center. It will chronicle the ways in which gender variant people of color build a framework of gender, identity, and culture. The project will also explore the intersections of race, class, gender, identity and sexuality, as well as spirituality within the frameworks of who we are as people of color within the trans community and the ways we formulate identity and understandings of a often times marginalized and silenced trans-experience within the world and the queer community. As a person of color, trans-gender queer, identified artist, activist, and queer person, I noticed that there is a lack of artistic works created about the intersection of trans identity within communities of color.
