Hawai‘i’s business climate has improved in recent years, but still struggles due to many factors, including one of the highest tax burdens in the nation, the high cost of doing business, government-created delays, unnecessary regulatory barriers,
and the need for a well-educated, trained workforce that can compete in the global economy.

As Governor, Duke Aiona will accelerate private sector investment to create more jobs by improving transparency and certainty in government permitting and approvals.

Duke Aiona will propose a tax credit equal to the amount of withholdings taxes paid by each new employee hired by a firm located in Hawai‘i.

He will work to reduce the amount of unemployment insurance taxes businesses must pay.
