Comets cant close out Bruins

The Newman girls basketball team rallied to force overtime, but were outscored by St. Bede 11-8 in the extra period in a 52-49 Three Rivers East loss in Peru.

The Comets (5-15, 3-5 TRAC East) wasted a dominant effort by Kelsey Simpson, as the sophomore scored a game-high 29 points, while draining four 3-pointers. Sarah Trujillo added seven points.

Lutheran 49, Dixon 37: The Duchesses 29-22 scoring edge in the second half wasnt enough to overcome a 25-8 halftime deficit in a Big Northern West loss in Rockford.

Tyler Smiths 10 points led a balanced effort for Dixon (9-14, 3-8), which had nine players score in the game.

Kailyn Strawbridge had 12 points for the Crusaders (19-5, 10-2), and Abby Woollacott scored 10.

Milledgeville 52, Polo 28: The Missiles cruised to an NUIC East win at home, holding the Marcos to single digits in each quarter.

Jenna Bibler led Milledgeville (7-16, 5-6 NUIC East) with 17 points, while Sidney Aude and Jade Graff each added eight.

KeeLey Meyer and Alex Sterenberg both scored 10 points for Polo (7-15, 3-8).

Eastland 62, Warren 39:The Cougars scored at least 13 points in every quarter, and held Warren to single digits in three quarters in an NUIC West win in Lanark.

Annie Forster had a game-high 16 points, Lexis Macomber scored 12, and Drew Preston added 11 for Eastland (20-7).
