Supernatural: 5 Worst Things Castiel Did ( & The 5 Most Heroic) – Screen Rant

To beone of the main protagonists of Supernatural, Castiel has done some pretty villainous things. Though, to be fair, he has always stepped up to help correct those mistakes. At least, when it was in his power to do so.

Even though Castiel has gone rogue more than a few times, defying everyone from Heaven to Hell, his one consistent loyaltylies with Sam and Dean. He has pulled them from the depths of Hell, helped free Sam from Lucifer's cage and given his life in heroic attempts to save his friends. So let us count down the most heroic and worst things Castiel has ever done.

When, Castiel, the Winchester's and Rowenaattempt to break Dean free from the Mark of Cain, they use a spell in the Book of the Damned that needs three ingredients. One of these ingredients involves the spellcaster sacrificing someone she loves. Stating that she hasno one, she truly loves.

Castiel refuses to believe her, searching her mind, until findingOskar, a Polish peasant, who 300 years ago his parents took Rowena in, to repay them, she cast an immortality spell on the boy. Once revealed, Crowley kidnaps the boy, forcing Rowena to kill him to complete the spell.

When Castiel was first introduced on Supernatural, he had a bland, unemotional personality, which was similar to his angelic brethren. Over time, he learned to love and respect the Winchesters, even becoming resolutelyloyal to them and their cause.

On many occasions, Castiel has disregarded direct orders from his superiors in Heaven, especially when it comes to the Winchesters. This caused him to have a mixed relationship with the other angels, as some believe him to be against his own kind, because of his relationship with the angel-killing Winchesters, who have a deep-seated hatred for most of angel-kind.

For a protagonist, Castiel has brought more harm to the human race than Lucifer could dream of. After being raised from the dead for the second time by God, he raised himself to be higher than God, after absorbing all the souls in Purgatory.

He then proceeded to use his power to destroy countless millions of angels and humans, whom, he deemed sinners, unworthy or traitors. Even his favorite Winchesters were not above his judgment. Realizing that the evil souls in Purgatory had controlled his actions, he unsuccessfully tried to send them back to Purgatory.

Being the son of Satan can't be fun. It would almost be expected for him to be the worst father in theuniverse. Sadly, he proved to be just that. From the moment ofJack's birth, Castiel had beenhis one true friend, and the person, he most looks up to most.

Every time Lucifer tried to get close, tempting Jack with the idea of the two finding a father-son connection,it was only Castiel's enormous presencethat allowed Jack to see the contrast between Castiel's good nature and Lucifer's selfish goals.

After Castiel consumed the souls of Purgatory in his attempt to make himself a new God, he soon found that the souls were slowly consuming who he was, and influencing his moral decisions to the point, he was almost at the point of no return.

After finallyrealizing that the souls were influencing his decisions, he tried to release them back to Purgatory but by doing so accidentally released the Leviathans into the world. He along with the Winchesters eventually defeat the Leviathans but, at a great cost, losing Bobby in the process.

As a Nephilim and the son of Lucifer, Jack is a complete wildcard. The Winchester's history with Lucifer swayed their opinion of the young man, fearing that he would be his father's son.

So it wasn't too shocking when Dean and Sam were willing to throw Jack under the bus, believing his potential for evil was too great to be left alive. Unlike, Sam and Dean, Castiel could see the good in him, changing their minds before it was too late. An optimist at heart Castiel believed you can't judge Jack for the sins of his father.

With the evil souls of the leviathans beginning to take full control over Castiel. He makes a decision that would affect the course of history by saving the lives of those who died on the Titanic, in an attempt atconsuming more souls to help him win the civil war in Heaven against Raphael.

However, changing the fate of so many, caught the attention of Atropos the goddess of fate, causing her to seek out the survivors' descendants; killing themto reinstate the original history of events. Realizing the consequences of his actions, Castiel restored the original timeline.

Castiel's decisions, whether good or bad, have led to the deaths of countless individuals and changed the course of history. Yet, deep down, he sincerely wants the best for humans and angels. So, it wasn't much of a surprise, when an angel, who feels like he is a monster, chooses to stay in a place, where monsters go when they die.

However, his time in Purgatory was short-lived, as Naomi, one of his angelic allies, along with a group of supporters freed him from Purgatory's grips, giving him a second chance at making amends for his sins.

Castiel once commented that an angel taking another angel's grace was the equivalent of angelic cannibalism. Yet, after having his grace taken from him by Metatron, after Metatron's takeover of Heaven, Castiel finds himself stranded on earth as a human, like the rest of his angelic brethren.

He confronts his abuser, eventually gaining the upper hand and slitting Theo's throat, sucking out his grace.

Castiel's love for Jack was always pure. So when the Nephilim diesandis sent to Heaven, The Shadow, a being that controls The Empty, a final resting place where deceased angels go to sleep for eternity, comes looking for his soul.

When The Shadow infiltrates Heaven, Castiel tries to fight it but is quickly overwhelmed. Seeing that all hope is lost, Castiel makes a deal with The Shadow to trade his soul for Jack's. The Shadow agrees but refuses to take Castiel, until, he has experienced true happiness.Allowing himto rest in peace.
