An explosion inside Purdue University's WetherillHall of Chemistry injured two people, university spokesman Jim Bush said Thursday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. An explosion inside Purdue University's WetherillHall of Chemistry injured two people, university spokesman Jim Bush said Thursday.

Purdue University firefighters were called the chemistry building about 3:40 p.m. Thursday after the explosion.

"Two people were working under a hood when a vessel exploded," Bush wrote in response to the Journal & Courier's request for information. "Both have been transported to IU Health with injuries which are non-life threatening."

Bush did not release the names of the people injured or say what their relationship is to the university.

The area around the chemistry building and the room where the explosion happened wasclosed while radiological and environmental management conducts a cleanup of the area, Bush said.
