City of Owen Sound Dec. 17th, 2012 Council Meeting
Michele Mannerow, Chair of the Owen Sound Family Physician Recruitment Committee announced the winners of the Medical Student Bursary Awards for 2013, awarded annually to local students enrolled in medical school. This year #39;s recipients include: Graham Bergstra, Dan Breadner, Sonja Bruin, Neil de Laplante, Jessica Flear, Ben Fregeau, Shannon McColl, Kyle McIver, Tanya Nadon, Hiran Shah and Kristen VanSligtenhorst. Also recognized and welcomed by Council, were Owen Sound #39;s two new resident family physicians, Dr. Mark Robertson and Dr. Samantha Saunders. Local singer/song writer Allan Johnson presented City Council with a song he wrote about the City of Owen Sound called "Big Little Town Owen Sound" for Council #39;s consideration as the City #39;s official song. City Council authorized the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Charitable Gaming Centre Municipality Agreement with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, which will allow charitable groups to offer new types of electronic games and be in compliance with The Criminal Code. Two Business Licence applications were approved: one for #39;Owen Sound 5-Star Taxi #39;, a taxi business located at 320 8th Street East and one for #39;A-1 Murray #39;s Small Jobs #39;, a home occupation focused on providing property maintenance, junk removal, eaves trough cleaning ice and snow removal and lawn cutting services located at 729 3rd Avenue West.
