The Erie County Department of Senior Services will hold a six-week Powerful Tools for Caregivers program from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays (beginning Thursday through April 12) in VA WNY Healthcare System, Northtown Business Center, 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. Caregivers will learn how to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, locate helpful resources and balance their lives while taking care of a physically or mentally impaired relative. Free respite care for the memory impaired is offered at this class; inquire at registration. The cost is $25, but there is no charge for members of Independent Health or BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. The Oncology Nurse: Your Essential Partner for the Cancer Journey will be the topic at a support group meeting of the Leukemia&Lymphoma Society and the Multiple Myeloma family support group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Gildas Club WNY, 1140 Delaware Ave. Registration is requested for new members. The meeting is open to patients, family members and friends dealing with a diagnosis of lymphoma, leukemia, MDS or myeloma.
