Comets Streak Late, Lose

The Stew-Stras Comets scored 22 points in the 4th on Friday and 18 points in the 4th on Saturday, but still lost both games. Friday they lost to St. Elmo-Brownstown, 75-59, and on Saturday to Mt. Pulaksi, 58-53.

On Friday, a 2nd period, 27-14 run by St. Elmo/Brownstown provided the cushion for the win. Stew-Stras lost every quarter by a bit, but that 2nd period created a hole too big to fill. Stew-Stras trailed by 14 at the break, 39-25, and lost by 16.

St. Elmo stretched their lead to 18 points heading into the 4th, 55-37. The Comets streaked for 22 points in the final 8:00, but St. Elmo stayed with them, scoring 20, and secured the 16-point win.

Brandon Helmuth led Stew-Stras with 16 points, but St. Elmos three leading scorers all had 16 points or better. Maxey scored a game-high 23 points with a trey and 6-of-6 at the line. Feezel and Behrends followed with 16 points, each. Feezel had a trey and 3-of-6 at the line. Behrends had two treys and was 4-of-4 at the line.

Bryse Bugger followed Helmuth with 14 points, all from the floor, while Jason Fry had 11, all for the floor, including a trey. Helmuth also recorded eight rebounds and six assists.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had advantages at the arc and the foul line padding their lead.
