There's no strong scientific evidence that specific foods can impact psoriasis, but there is evidence that losing extra weight can ease symptoms. Nutritionists and physicians recommend a healthy, balanced diet to control your weight and your psoriasis, as well as lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke (which are elevated in people with psoriasis). The foundation of a healthy diet is lean protein, low-fat dairy, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables, says Heather Mangieri, RD, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
12 Famous People With Psoriasis
Omega-3 fatty acidsabundant in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, and albacore tunaare the foundation of a heart-healthy diet. Fish oils are thought to reduce inflammation and help the immune system, which is overactive in people with psoriasis. Given that psoriasis is also linked to a higher risk of heart attack and stroke, it's a good idea to eat fish at least twice a week.
17 Healthy Seafood Recipes
"A diet that's high in fruits and vegetables can have an anti-inflammatory effect," says Mangieri, who is a Pittsburgh-based registered dietician. And although there are no studies connecting fruits and vegetables specifically with a reduction in psoriasis symptoms, psoriasis is an inflammatory condition. Specific vegetables that might have inflammation-fighting properties include carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, and broccoli.

Along with potatoes and peppers, tomatoes are a nightshade vegetable. Some people with psoriasis find these veggies aggravate their skin condition. There's little scientific evidence to support this, but if you notice a link between these types of vegetables and worsening of psoriasis symptoms, cut them out of your diet to see if your skin improves.
5 Foods for Healthy Skin
Grains such as whole-grain bread, cereal, and pasta; oatmeal; and brown rice are another component of an overall healthy diet. Like fruits and vegetables, grains also contain a variety of anti-inflammation antioxidants and are high in fiber, which has been linked with lower inflammation levels and better regulation of blood sugar. Legumes such as beans and lentils also have antioxidants and fiber, so include them in your diet as well.

Mr Kofi A. Annan, founding chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation and Secretary-General of the United Nations, 1997-2006 will provide the keynote address at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit, which will take place in Sanya on the island of Hainan, China, on 24-25 April.
In 2001, Mr Annan and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. Kofi Annan was praised for being "pre-eminent in bringing new life to the organization" (Norwegian Nobel Committee, October 2001). Since leaving the United Nations, Kofi Annan has been active pressing for policies that will meet the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly in Africa. He continues to use his experience to mediate and resolve conflict.
Joining Mr Annan on the speakers' platform will be more than forty other leading figures from the worlds of business, sport and Travel & Tourism.
The 14th Global Summit in Hainan Province, China, will explore 'Changing world, new perspectives'. Public and private sector leaders from outside and inside the industry will examine historical perspectives and their relevance for the future. They will look at Travel & Tourism from a new angle and seek to develop a new industry proposition that goes beyond the economic agenda, identifying how businesses can benefit from this new way of thinking.
"When tourism is married with sustainable and environmentally friendly policies, it has the potential to not just transform the economic prospects of a society for the better, but be a fundamental force for equitable and positive change in many areas", Mr. Annan said.
David Scowsill, President & CEO, WTTC said: "We are honoured to be joined by Kofi Annan at the WTTC Global Summit in Hainan, China, this April. His perspective on bringing peace to some of the world's most unstable regions will be invaluable to us and echo the ambition of the Global Summit - to look beyond the economic contribution of our industry to its role as a force for social good around the world."
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is the global authority on the economic and social contribution of Travel & Tourism. It promotes sustainable growth for the industry, working with governments and international institutions to create jobs, to drive exports and to generate prosperity. Travel & Tourism accounts for 255 million jobs globally. At US$6 trillion (9% of GDP) the sector is a key driver for investment and economic growth. For more than 20 years, the World Travel & Tourism Council has been the voice of this industry globally. Members are the Chairs, Presidents and Chief Executives of the world's leading, private sector Travel & Tourism businesses. These Members bring specialist knowledge to guide government policy and decision-making, raising awareness of the importance of the industry as an economic generator of prosperity. WTTC's Sustainability Initiative has already concluded a number of projects aimed at driving sustainable economic recovery and growth, namely: the 'Leading the Challenge on Climate Change' report, and 'Climate Change A Joint Approach to Addressing the Challenge'.

Super Bowl ads in 2014 will have fewer tongue kisses, half-naked women, or Gangnam Style. Instead, look for Super Bowl ads featuring fully-clothed women, well-known celebrities, and actual product information.
Forget slapstick humor, corny gimmicks and skimpy bikinis. This year's Super Bowl ads promise something surprising: Maturity.

There won't be any close-up tongue kisses in Godaddy's ad. Nor will there be half-naked women running around in the Axe body spray spot. And Gangnam Style dancing will be missing from the Wonderful Pistachios commercial.
In their place? Fully-clothed women, well-known celebs, and more product information.
"We're seeing sophistication come to the Super Bowl," says Kelly O'Keefe, a professor of brand strategy at Virginia Commonwealth University. "Not long ago, almost everything seemed to be about beer or bros or boobs."
Companies that typically go for ads with shock value are toning them down as they try to get the most out of the estimated $4 million that 30-second Super Bowl spots cost this year.
Experts say companies are using the ads to build their image, rather than just grab attention for one night. Additionally, although the old adage asserts that "sex sells," experts say companies realize that watchers have grown bored with sophomoric humor and other obvious shock tactics.
"You can't really shock people visually anymore," says ad critic and Mediapost columnist Barbara Lippert. "So, this year people are being more creative."

Scientists from UCLA's Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research were today awarded grants totaling more than $3.5 million by California's stem cell agency for their ongoing efforts to advance revolutionary stem cell science in medicine.
Recipients of the awards from the California Institute of Renerative Medicine (CIRM) included Lili Yang ($614,400), who researches how stem cells become rare immune cells; Denis Evseenko ($1,146,468), who is studying the biological niche in which stem cells grow into cartilage; Thomas Otis and Bennet Novitch ($1,148,758), who are using new techniques to study communication between nerve and muscle cells in spinal muscular atrophy; and Samantha Butler ($598,367), who is investigating the molecular elements that drive stem cells to become the neurons in charge of our sense of touch.
"These basic biology grants form the foundation of the revolutionary advances we are seeing in stem cell science," said Dr. Owen Witte, professor and director of the Broad Stem Cell Research Center. "Every cellular therapy that reaches patients must begin in the laboratory with ideas and experiments that will lead us to revolutionize medicine and ultimately improve human life. That makes these awards invaluable to our research effort."
The awards are part of CIRM's Basic Biology V grant program, which fosters cutting-edge research on significant unresolved issues in human stem cell biology, with a focus on unravelling the key mechanisms that determine how stem cells decide which cells they will become. By learning how such mechanisms work, scientists can develop therapies that drive stem cells to regenerate or replace damaged or diseased tissue.
Lili Yang: Tracking special immune cells
The various cells that make up human blood all arise from hematopoietic stem cells. These include special white blood cells called T cells, the "foot soldiers" of the immune system that attack bacteria, viruses and other disease-causing invaders. Among these T cells is a smaller group, a kind of "special forces" unit known as invariant natural killer T cells, or iNKT cells, which have a remarkable capacity to mount immediate and powerful responses to disease when activated and are believed to be important to the immune system's regulation of infections, allergies, cancer and autoimmune diseases such as Type I diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
The iNKT cells develop in small numbers in the blood generally accounting for less than 1 percent of blood cells but can differ greatly in numbers among individuals. Very little is known about how blood stem cells produce iNKT cells.

KEENE VALLEY If the only Kabbalah reference you have is Madonna, then Rabbi Moishe News talk, Kabbalah, is a must-hear Monday evening at the Keene Valley Library.
New, the spiritual leader of the Montreal Torah Center, will give an introduction in the world of Jewish mysticism with emphasis on the insights it offers to deal with 21st century challenges.
Kabbalah in Hebrew means to receive. The study of Kabbalah is a traditional teaching that is passed down on an elemental level.
The Torah, which is the Bible, was the written law as dictated by God and simply written down, said New, who is a sought-out lecturer on the topic and its relevance today.
When God gave the Torah to Moses, he also gave Four Keys, which unlock the meaning of the text. Quite frankly, the text on its own, in many places are ambiguous or contradictory and often not understandable. The reality is, it wasnt meant to be studied on its own.
The Torah is a divine, inscrutable text that continues to yield teachings, information and insight.
But it reveals by means of these four basic keys, New said. These keys are four levels of understanding the text. Level I is the simple level to make it intelligible enough on the simple, most pragmatic level. Whats the story and what is the Bible telling us to do? All these keys are defined further and have a whole system of rules and formulas by which the text yields insights and information.
DEFINING KEYS
Key I is understanding the literal meaning of the text.
Key II is a deeper level, New said. You apply the information from Key I. It yields allusions and hints that are not obvious in the text. Key III is often described as a very broad area. Its the psychological, legal and philosophical dimensions, the homiletic dimension of the text. The Talmud is devoted to understanding the text at Level III. Its much more complex.
