Cyborg expects to fight Jindrova for Lion Fight’s muay thai title

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Cris Cyborg has made a successful return to muay thai rings with a third-round TKO victory over previously undefeated Jennifer Colomb on Sept. 20 in Las Vegas, Nev., and she plans to compete again at Lion Fight.

"I love to fight," Cyborg told MMAFighting.com. "When Im not fighting MMA, I always enter jiu-jitsu and wrestling tournaments. Whatever Im doing outside of MMA, helps me to evolve my MMA game. I started fighting in muay thai, but then I moved to MMA because of the lack of events, but now I expect to keep fighting in both MMA and muay thai."

Cyborg was set to meet with Martina Jindrova (17-5) at Lion Fight 11, but the Czech Republic native was forced to withdraw from the event with an injury and replaced by Colomb. According to the Brazilian, she is in talks with the promotion to meet Jindrova in a title fight.

"She still wants to fight me, and I believe we will fight," she said. "I believe I will fight her for Lion Fights title soon. (Jindrova) has many titles, and I will be happy to fight for one more belt."

Before her return to the muay thai rings, Cyborg expects to be part of Invicta FCs next event on Dec. 7, but she doesnt know if her featherweight title will be on the line.

"My next fight will be in December," she said. "They have asked me if I can fight in a heavier division, but thats not set yet. They are still looking for an opponent, but I have to fight now because thats the last fight of my contract and I have to fight this year. I want to fight, and I want to stay active, so I hope they find someone to fight me."

Day beaches

The rolling waves of the Injambakkam beach is so tempting that S. Gunasekarans children refuse to leave the water, but the setting sun plays the spoil sport.

Packing up before dark is a rule Gunasekaran strictly follows whenever he brings his family to the beach. The beach is lovely, its less crowded than Marina and Elliots, but I am afraid to stay beyond 6.30 p.m. as the lighting is poor, says this resident of Medavakkam. It is almost two years since the Chennai Corporation added 10 new beaches to its list, but a lot needs to be done to improve the safety and amenities on the sandy coastline. For a number of people from Tambaram and adjoining neighbourhoods, these beaches are close by and thereforea quickly accessible relaxation spot. With better lighting, the beach could draw a bigger evening crowd. At Injambakkam beach, two high masts light up one stretch of the beach, but residents say it was installed by a private beach resort, which also has a life guard who ensures visitors' safety.

P. Mahalingam, who has come for an evening stroll, gives me a stern warning: The beach is not like Marina. You cannot walk in any time and there are no policemen patrolling the stretch.

Further down the coast, Neelangarai and Palavakkam beaches seem to be better lit and one can spot a few dustbins here and there. But long-time residents, who frequent the beach, say for crowd the beach attracts on weekends the progress of improvement is slow. While Neelangarai beach has benches, some green space and a walkers path, Palavakkam is yet to get such amenities.

Like the Marina beach, where the sands are cleaned with a machine, Palavakkam beach needs to be cleaned at least twice a week, says Rosey Thangaraj, a resident of Palavakkam who visits the beach twice a day. Before the Corporation took over the beach, she says, local residents used to clean some stretches of the beach, but now there is no such initiative.

Kottivakkam beach hardly has any amenities, say residents.

Lack of restrooms on a majority of the newly-added beaches prevents people from hanging out in the beach for long. Residents believe only beach beautification project can give these beaches the much needed facelift.

State denies that it promotes town as surfing destination

RYE The town's beaches have become known in recent years as prime destinations among the international surfing community, much to the chagrin of locals who want to get a handle on an unsustainable intensification of activities at the beach.

The rules and regulations for New Hampshire state parks prohibit surfing at state beaches except at designated areas at North Beach in Hampton. Yet state Sen. Nancy Stiles, R-Hampton, said at a recent meeting on beach issues that she witnessed surfers breaking that regulation at Jenness State Beach.

A resident at the meeting suggested the state is sending mixed messages by paying for advertising that promotes tourism to surfers. Amy Bassett, a spokeswoman for the Division of Parks and Recreation, countered that notion, saying the state has not spent advertising dollars on promoting the Seacoast as a surfing destination.

"We did advertising on grindtv.com to attract a more active people, luring them to New Hampshire state parks. On grindtv.com there are several different online magazines that are part of the buy," she said.

Among the online magazines that fall under grindtv.com's umbrella are surfermag.com and surfingmagazine.com. While advertisements for New Hampshire state parks may have appeared on those sites, they depicted campers, hikers and kayakers rather than anything specifically surfing-oriented, Bassett said.

"We're trying to draw anybody that has an interest in the outdoors into visiting New Hampshire state parks. It's not meant to go right to surfers by any means, because we don't even have a campaign with surfers or for the Seacoast," she said.

Nonetheless, the word is out that Rye's beaches are a great place to catch some surf. Mike Labrie, a beach commissioner in town, said a brochure was published in Canada citing the various beaches in Rye. Canadian surfing groups appear to be heavily promoting the activity in Rye, he said.

Battle to save BBC TV's The Sky At Night

8:00am Saturday 28th September 2013 in News By Haydn Lewis, haydn.lewis@thepress.co.uk

STARGAZERS in York have joined a national campaign to stop the BBC cancelling an iconic television show.

Astronomy documentary The Sky At Night had the same permanent presenter, Patrick Moore, from its first airing in 1957 until 7 January 2013 after Moores death in December last year, making it the longest-running programme with the same presenter in television history.

But news that the popular monthly programme could be axed has caused dismay among fans and has led to an online petition.

Annette Newby, the secretary, of the York Astronomical Society, which has about 100 members, said: The Sky at Night is a British institution and it is watched by astronomers everywhere.

There is very little science on the BBC and even less astronomy.

This programme is the mainstay of information and education on astronomy and without it the BBC will fail their remit of being a Public Service Broadcaster.

Our society chairman, Martin Dawson, has known Patrick Moore for many years and has visited his house on many an occasion.

A BBC spokesman said: The Sky at Night is on-air until the end of the year. Plans for subsequent series are being discussed.

How Inequality, Robots, And Artificial Intelligence Will Change The Job Skills People Need

In 2011, Foreign Policy Magazine named Tyler Cowen #72 in their list of the Top 100 Global Thinkers.

He is a professor of economics at George Mason University and, along with Alex Tabarrok, he blogs atMarginal Revolution, one of the most popular economics sites on the internet.

Tyler is a New York Times bestselling author, having written 13 books includingDiscover Your Inner EconomistandThe Great Stagnation.

His latest book isAverage Is Overwhich gives a fascinating look into where the country is headed, how income inequality, automation and artificial intelligence will change the way we work and live and who will be the beneficiaries of those changes.

Tyler and I spoke about the skills that will be important in the coming years, when it makes sense to order the worst sounding thing on the menu, and why the ending of Star Wars may be at odds with the future.

My conversation with Tyler was quite long, so for brevitys sake Im only going to post edited highlights here.

If you want the extended interview Ill be sending it out in myweekly newsletteron Sunday.
